hi guys do u think any of ur SOs would object to being a stay at home dad if need be if its cheaper than daycare? By the way what are infant daycare costs like and the times in which u can drop them off and pick them up.

I can't say this loud enough but YES, most jamaican men do not like to be at home, looking after pickney, even if it's theres. they want to work be out the house.

yup that was his response when i asked him. My thoughts were that it may be cheaper for him stay home. Its just a thought. Now if he gets paid like 11.75 im estimating at 40 hours a week that would give about 350 maybe? and that will only just cover daycare and we need a lot more than that im trying figure what cost i will cut to afford daycare and any other expenses right now i have no extra to cover that so i been praying on it and trying find a cheaper place to live.

Daycare here can range from $80+a week. You can send your child partime or fulltime, looking for a cheaper place to live sound like an option. Even if his pay only goes to payday care, I'm thinking it's best to let him work for it. He might try find a position where he works a different shifts than you: you day, and he evening....or nights blush.gif ..FT weekends in a hospital where he works two days, everyweek for partime benefits. Also I really hate to pull the G-D card, but I know what works for me: Pray about it and forget about it. I never would have thought my hubby would have a partime job makin about what I make with my nursing degree. They don't keep him very busy all the time but we have what we need. Everything has a way of workin itself out. I was all emotional in tears this morning when he seh got the the rent..put your check in the bank. yes.gif he'll tek care of you, you jus have to believe it will happen. rose.gif

yup after today im not gon stress abt it anymore im just let it go smile.gif im gon pray he find a 26 dollar hour job then lol whats crazy is now they do this shift bid thing at work based on senority nice so im in the middle somewhere so ill end up with either a late night shift with weekdns off or early shift that includes weekends and they do this every 6 mos im wondering if overnights would be the best one those u get weekends off but yall i see mi fallin asleep pon the desk and get fired lol need some tooth picks keep eyes open lol

This is sort of the flip side of most of us ladies were handling our business before we met our s/o. How do u handle that because we have it together sometimes the men, think it's okay to send down unreasonable sums of money to J.A. when mr jengles first came he threw out a three figure amount that he wanted to send down every WEEK. I had to ask him who he wanted to send that too?? It does kill me a little bit, that some people down there don't work and i'm up here busting my butt every day.

I explained to him how much daycare cost, the fact that they we needed a bigger place to live and most importantly...di fact that he didn't have a job or knew how much money he was going to make. wacko.gif

off to a meeting back in a few

Not here, other than to his daughter..who we send $300 a month. No!! When everyone else come begging he usually say no, unless they make him feel really bad, then he'll send 20 bucks here and there.

Can I be nosy and ask how he sends $20?

I hate to send anything less then $100 cause of the fees associated with Western Union.

You have an easier way?

Either western union...10 bucks.... or most of the time he'll put it on his daughters debit card and they have to pick it up

lol yo meez out shoppin up a storm and hubby waitn for her to get home lol thats cute

Yeah that is a big part of it. There is a big difference between staying home and watching the children every now and then or even for a few hours a day while the other person is working but it is completely different when staying home and watching the kids is your FT job and you don't do anything else. I think that is what gets most people (male or female) - they kinda lose themselves because they are home all day without much adult social interaction and a lot of people identify themselves through their jobs.

I AGREE! I have been teleworking since Tierra was born... 6 years now!

I go mad sometimes. Especially since coming back from St Lucia. I have no car and where I live there is no public transportation. I rely alot on my mom and friends. My friends know when it is time to get Catherine out of the house... I call them all crying!! LOL

I sure love Tierra but sometimes I need to get dressed up, have a drink and laugh and talk with some adults!!!

I am a stay at home mom that works full time. UGH!

I could never quite tell what was in style but could tell you all about the kid shows. lol

Since he got moved up he may end up in evenings or with extra classes he studys hard! always in the book when i get home. Its wonderful that its free and they really didnt ask for much info when he signed up. And he can walk to school its not so far so thats a plus.

Chris says hes bored and wants to work. I thought school would be an outlet for him to at least not be so bored. He goes to school mon-thur in the mornings. He bought home a paper for fedex im not sure of their requirements as far as GED but they are starting at 11.75 an hour. He just passed the pre-ged section now will be in the GED course starting monday so thats great. School ends in June.

When my daughter was in Daycare ... and I even found preschool this way ... I called churches. Both the churches that helped me happen to be Methodist but Church people know people.... They know the community.
Open the yellow pages and call and visit everyone you can.
When I moved back to Maine I cried and cried because I didnt think I could afford it. Even though I work at home I couldnt get work done with a wired kid running around. I eventually found some GREAT care.

You have to hunt the good ones down!

I been crying and cryin too already and baby is nowhere near here yet. Going to do some OT now while i can to try save up some money and finish off my jamaica travel debt and the visa stuff. Im going to start lookign into and call some places. Im still hoping the TX thing will come through for me by summer that will tremendously cut my costs. They need 8 people to leave before i can come. So far one is leaving so now thats 7. Ill keep prayin on it. Ive also been trying to find places here cheaper where i dont have to sign a 12 month lease. Thank you all for ur advice i truly appreciate it, its like noone outside this visa/adjustment process can even begin to understand.

I know u want to transfer thru your job.

have u thought about trying to find a job on your own, after u have the baby. you can apply for jobs from up here thanks to the internet and plan a week and go and interview. that is one of my friends did. companies will/should be flexible if u say i'm coming down this particular week

Yes that is the plan if nothing comes through i have even been looking at other jobs with my company in TX, CA, ATL, FL nothing that fits what i do or thye wont pay enough. My job now is pretty flexible so im gonna need that while pregnant. SO after baby comes ill see whats next. Ive been here 7 years its kinda hard to leave but we will see what happens 10 years one more week of vacay time that makes 4 weeks vacay 7 personal 5 sick

hi guys do u think any of ur SOs would object to being a stay at home dad if need be if its cheaper than daycare? By the way what are infant daycare costs like and the times in which u can drop them off and pick them up.

I can't say this loud enough but YES, most jamaican men do not like to be at home, looking after pickney, even if it's theres. they want to work be out the house.

yup that was his response when i asked him. My thoughts were that it may be cheaper for him stay home. Its just a thought. Now if he gets paid like 11.75 im estimating at 40 hours a week that would give about 350 maybe? and that will only just cover daycare and we need a lot more than that im trying figure what cost i will cut to afford daycare and any other expenses right now i have no extra to cover that so i been praying on it and trying find a cheaper place to live.

did u price daycare where u are??? know any older ladies who want to supplement their income??? Is your mother near you she might know someone

OK, my question for the day is suppose you had a friend who was in a relationship and for whatever reason, you thought the man was using her.
You have no hard evidence, but you just have STRONG misgivings.
DO you tell her?
Or since you have no hard facts, do you just leave it alone???

If a friend told you that she thought your SO was using you, but had no evidence, how would you react?
Would you prefer she said nothing without hard facts to back it up?

Oh boy this hits home. I have a friend like that now. I know this man is using her its evident and have witnessed evidence...BUT i think she knows it too but is looking through rose colored glasses however, i stop telling her that i think hes a loser. Why, because she is thinking with her heart and not her head and anything i tell her or even give her scenarios as to how hes using her she just dismisses it. Its so obvious. He will tell her lil sweet things to keep her going and she buys it. Once shes ready to see the light she will, so i stop getting involved but it hurts me because i know she can do so much better and she is a lovely person, but i hope she wakes up before shes broke for a fool. In respect to the second part of ur question, if someone says my SO is using me then i need to understand/hear facts as to why they think such to back that up. Anyone can say oh such and such is using u.

JAMAICAN HISTORY I

1494-1692
COLUMBUS TO THE DESTRUCTION OF PORT ROYAL

The recorded history of Jamaica may be roughly divided into six periods:

The first period may be said to date from Columbus? arrival in the island in 1494 to the destruction of Port Royal in 1692. This covers nearly 200 years. But very little is known about the days when the Spaniards were masters of Jamaica. On the other hand, a good deal is known about the first fifty years of Jamaica as a British colony.

The second period of our history extends from.the destruction of Port Royal to the abolition of the slave trade in 1807. During this time Jamaica flourished as an agricultural colony and became very rich. It reached the height of its prosperity just before the slave trade was abolished; that is, just before the British Government decided that no more slaves were to be brought from Africa and sold as private property

The third period of Jamaican history covers the years between the abolition of the slave trade and the Morant Bay rebellion in 1865. During the 46 years between the abolition of the slave trade and the rebellion, the country passed through many misfortunes and there was a great deal of misery and ill-feeling among the different classes of people in the island.

The fourth period dates from 1865 to the end of July, 1914.

The fifth period began with the outbreak of the First World War on August 1, 1914 and ended on August 1962.

The sixth period began on August 6, 1962, and records the history of Jamaica as an independent country.

In 1494 on May 4, Christopher Columbus arrived at the island of Jamaica. This was on his second voyage to the New World, which was afterwards called America. Columbus annexed the island in the name of his master and mistress. the King and Queen of Spain. But it was not occupied until Juan de Esquivel came from Santo Domingo in 1509. and for 146 years Jamaica remained a Spanish colony.

Jamaica was then inhabited by a gentle race of people called the Arawaks or Tainos. They had probably come from the country now known as Guyana, where Arawak Indians are still to be found. They were short people, rather stout, with straight black hair and flattish noses; they were copper-coloured. They lived in huts shaped like those of the peasants of Jamaica. They slept in hammocks. They made rough seats of wood, and spears tipped with stone, or with the teeth of sharks. They did not have the bow and arrow. The men were skilful fishermen, and caught fish and turtle to eat. They made their cooking vessels out of clay, and burnt them in fire till they became hard. The women grew cassava, corn and sweet potatoes for food. Cotton grew wild in the island, and they twisted the fibre into cloth, strips of which they wore around their waists. They also wore strings of beads and shells.

But the Spaniards made slaves of them and put them to difficult tasks. The Spaniards treated the Arawaks so harshly that in about fifty years all of them were dead. They had numbered fully sixty thousand. The Spaniards got slaves from Africa to take their place.

The Spaniards first settled on that part of the northern coast of Jamaica which is now known as the parish of St. Ann. There they built a town called Sevilla Nueva, or New Seville. Afterwards they moved to the southern part of the island and built the town of St. Jago de la Vega (St. James of the Plain), which is still called Spanish Town. The island was given to the Columbus family as a personal estate in 1540, but they did nothing to develop it. The Spanish colony in Jamaica was never a very large or a very flourishing one.

Good morning. My friends boyfriend has one of the green cards that have no expiration. He wants to come back here. 1. Doesnt he need to get that changed over to the 10 year kind? he has had it since a child 2. He has been in Jamaica, i want to say since end of 2005. What does he need to do to get back to the USA? I was reading about the re-entry permit, I-131 however that one appears to be only for if you apply in advance to stay out of the country before you leave the country. So at this point, what are his next options if any. He attempted to go to the airport to come here and they said no sir. Any advice? What agency should she call to find out more info if any. I have been looking on the net trying to find something that advises what to do if you have been out of the country more than one year. wacko.gif

Are you thinking about work in NYC, Marie? Lots of people in CT live and work in the city -Costs are high living expense wise though -

If you want CT, you want to be on the Metro-North trainline -

Highest cost - Greenwich / Stamford area (closest to NYC)
http://www.ci.stamford.ct.us/ - expect to pay at least $1400 and up for a one bedroom in an okay neighborhood -

Or Fairfield - http://www.fairfieldct.org/ - a little further north, still on the trainline, but apartments for around $1100 and up -

Best bet cost wise is Bridgeport - http://ci.bridgeport.ct.us/ - can get a one bedroom for around $900 a month, but there are MANY not good areas, so you have to be careful.

Lots of JA restaurants in Bridgeport and some in Stamford -

For a ton of JA stuff in CT, look at the Hartford area - one of the largest West Indian populations in the US, but furthest from NYC

Super expensive, thats why i just left NJ my rent was 1535. I lived in New Brunswick, i drove often to east orange, thats where i found all the carib spots. Its stra8 hood but i can get what i want there! plus get my hair done like i want it. Decent place will cost 1200 and up. Took me 35-45 min driving in good traffic to manhattan and the train is like 7 min walking so that was great. Lots of JA Restaurants, food shopping etc. I could always find what i needed there. If ur looking for the convenience of finding anything carribean, cultural melting pot(which i loved the diversity), shopping and lots to see the tri cities area is great. I found it not to be the most friendly place out of all ive lived, experienced much rudeness! My reason for leaving is i want a more frienldy relaxed place to live and most of all since starting a family i want to get the most for my money so im moving south where its more affordable and i can get more for my money. The further south Jersey u live the cheaper it is. I was exit 9 off the NJ turnpike. Newark airport was 30 min ride if that, i loved that part, goin to JA i would park and ride. Spent bout 90 bucks. OR u could catch the train, which stops right at the airport. I alwaays had to many bags for that!
