Just checking in!

Question: Is there a website with information on how to order any JA food items in this country? Someone on here mentioned that you could order some ackee (sp), etc.

Girl you are a mess. I wish I had some rum cream...or something. I can't believe that I haven't been on vacation all year. I'm used to two to three a year at least. My sister and her husband drove to Florida...I'm bored to death. I have a little over three weeks until A comes up. I don't know how I'm going to act knowing that we aren't saying goodbye to each other anymore. That has been such a big part of our relationship for the last 5 years.

I wonder if I can talk him into driving trucks if he starts working my nerves. LOL...I'm joking...sort of. I love my "me" time.

Do you poot around your man? What about in your sleep? I don't know why I decided to ask that question. LMAO.

LOL @ POOT

My RFE was for my marriage certificate. I had submitted the hand-written paper I received from the civil registrar. USCIS wants the computer-generated version of my marriage certificate ::sigh:: Lance has them so he'll have to pay 2500JA to FedEx it to me.

Hope all is well with everyone :-)

Cant he fedex it to USCIS?

I would take it. And, look for something better during the day till you found the right fit. Honestly, by the time they get to where they can look for a job, they are bored sitting at home and you are ready for them to bring in some $$$$.

Well. Im suffering now. Chris works 10-7am and i work 9-5 and he spends most times sleeping more than 8 hours!! so its killing me and it will be one yr in Dec. So, once we get another car, then we can see abt him changing shifts its not easy at ALL. Baby is in school now so that gives him more time to get some rest. So, maybe we will get a few hours extra together since he gets more rest now.

My o My...where did you come from?

Sorry KK. Jalove - you can apply for citizenship right after the conditions. In fact, some people are waiting for both at the same time. Damien could have had his citizenship a long time ago if the AOS didnt' take 15 months to process and almost a year for LOC. He's been eligible since January...we will apply soon.

Good morning VJ.

All and all, the trip was a good one – lots of quality time, lots of family time – And meeting JAEng was awesome, we had an instant connection and it was like I met my long lost sister!

Awww, same here, that's why I've been stalking you ever since LOL!

Had two very interesting conversations in JA which seemed very relevant to the board.
They have some people employed as 'Tourism Corps', basically for tourist information etc.
Got talking to one of the guys, he was decent looking, very clean cut. He told me he had been with his childhood sweetheart for 15 years, they had two kids together and lived together. He said he had met this American woman who fell in love with him, and even though his 'wife' didn't like the idea, he was going to marry her, come to the States and diverced her as soon as he could and bring his kids and the girlfriend over.
I asked him how on earth his girlfriend was happy with him doing that. He said that she wasn't too happy, but she realized that it was for the kid's best interest and even for their best interest as a family. He went on to say he took his American woman round to meet her and the kids. He said his mother was a christian, and while she wasn't too happy either, she didn't condemn it because he had to do what he had to do. Said his mother talked to his American girlfriend all the time, cooked for her etc.
Another thing he said that he was using to justify the whole scenario is that he said his American girl was older and had on 'weight', so she couldn't possibly expect to get a young, fit guy like him for her own just like that.
Asked him if he mentioned that to her, he laughed.

Just shook my head.
On my last day there, this couple was sitting beside me on the beach. She was English, he was Jamaican. He was being very attentive to his wife, rubbing suntan oil on her, kissing her, giving her little hugs, laughing with her.
So, a guy passed by and made a comment to me, I answered him with an insult in patois, so the husband started CRACKING up and started talking to me.
He said he was a 'beach boy', he went around and slept with the tourists to make a living. Said he did it to survive. So he was telling me, while he slept with ugly women, huge women, nasty women, he was on the look out for one he could 'stomach' living with until he got his stay.
He told me his wife was cool, he liked her because she was naive, believed any story he told her, any excuse he came up with. Said he made up his mind there he was going to marry her because he would be able to 'do his thing'.
They had been married for 6 months, and they were in Jamaica for a month, he boasted of how he had his girlfriend come down and stay in the same hotel and told his wife she was his cousin. Laughed about his wife bringing down clothes for his girlfriend.
I was taken aback, speechless. And he was saying most of this with his wife just out of earshot, but while attending to her needs. She probably thought she was in PARADISE, had the most thoughtful, solicitous husband ever.....
And I guess what amazed me was that he felt the need to sit there telling me all of this like it was something good.

wow this so sad..

How can one live with themselves daily for years after doing somethin like this. Waiting till Citizenship to bring someone up is a verrry long time to keep up a lie/fake/role.

Hey Kim. Only 3 years after the conditional green card if you are still married...five year if you are divorced before citizenship. I think it should be longer.

ok so after conditional u have to apply to lift conditions first right before citizenship?

Coco bread recipe

Ingredients
2 packets yeast
1 tsp sugar
1/4 cup warm water
1 medium egg
1 cup warm milk
1 tsp salt
3.5 cups white flour
1/2 cup melted butter

Preparation
Mix the yeast, sugar and water together.
Beat the egg and stir in to the mixture.
Stir in the milk and salt.

Stir in 2 cups of the flour.

Slowly add more flour, stop when the mixture becomes stiff.
Knead the dough until it is smooth - this should take about 10 minutes!

Transfer the dough to a clean bowl and some of the melted butter.
Roll the dough around the bowl until it is entirely coated in butter.

Cover with a damp towel for 1 hour (this will allow the mixture to rise).

Divide the dough in to 10 pieces and roll each piece in to a circle, about 1/2 cm thick.

Brush the dough with melted butter then fold in half.

Cooking
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
Place folded pieces on a well greased sheet and place on the bottom rack of the oven.

Bake until golden

what is the issue then? who are you blaming?

it is a big problem in America too....difference is when my neighbor that has 8 kids and cannot afford them is in need, the city, state, and federal governement has the means to step in and provide food, shelter, and a bus for those kids to get to school...not to mention there is no fee for public education

The issue is that there are many that are illiterate and we want to try and help where we can because we love Jamaica. Its part of us now, it means someting to us. If we can touch one life that means a great deal. Sure its a big problem in the USA however education in the USA is FREE. Unfortunately its not in JA. I dont think shes trying to blame anyone. Its just a fact. Doesnt matter who is to blame, what matters is what WE can do to help. It may not be much but if we can help one or two people thats great. Just imagine if that person we help, that wants to learn and is able to because of us, becomes Prime Minister one day and makes a change for the island.

America does have illiteracy as well but me personally i dont know anyone here illiterate and i know alot of people. However, in Jamaica, I can count many.

i think it does matter who is to blame....or what is to blame. how can you fix something when you don't know how it became broken?

I was responding to the fact that you were asking the original poster, who they were blaming. I advised that they were not attempting to place blame. Yes there is someone at fault BUT we cannot fix that. Its a HUGE problem. Once education is free OR govt does have money to assist, then im sure the cycle will break. We are working on what WE can do. I dont think ur entirely getting what i wrote. We cannot save the island but we can save a few of its children.

i wasn't trying to say she was placing blame.....I wanted to know who/what is to blame

maybe it came across that way in all my shyt talking

if i'm gonna support an organization, i want some details

btw, kimmy when is the website gonna be up?

See u guys later its time for Super Walmart(what fun) star_smile.gif ... we have raffle tickets if yall want any. That is a good question, when did all this start with no education avail. OR has it always been that way. I wonder if things were different before JA independence??? Anyone know?

Exaccctly... and i know a few folks stories where they have left home like at 15.. that seems the age they do for some reason. And fend for themself best way they know how. Survival....From other stories i have heard, kids stop school because parents cant keep up the fees to go and its inconsistent or the kids jus stop all together and work to help their family.

It is Jamaican Society..we cannot compare that with any other!

Did I say I was blaming anyone? I want more to be done..Parents have to start first! and then school and the teachers have to do their BEST!

ANd who is paying for ur neighbor to have 8 kids?

NO EDUCATION=NO CXCS=NO GOOD JOB=NO MONEY TO PAY TAXES=NO GOVERNMENT HELP AND IT REPEATS.....WITH NO JOB OR GOOD JOB=NO EDUCATION TO SEND KIDS TO SCHOOL="ITS A CYCLE" RIGHT?? Minimum wage there is not nice.

good morning yankeesgirl how are the babies

Hi good morning VJ fam. I need u right now. Youve always been there for me, I have some huge decisions to make ...again....please keep me and my family in your prayers. My mom has canger again. Lung Cancer. Non Small Cell Metastatic Adenocarcinoma. Not cureable and cant operate on the tumor. What do i do? Do i move home? She may not have but a few years left(thats Gods decision ) noone can tell u when u will no longer be on earth. I just moved from NJ to TX. Do i go back, will they even let me come back lol this places me closer to home 2.5 hours and my mom would not have to deal with the stress of selling her home in MD and moving to TX while she is sick. My dad has early onset alzheimers too so i have alot on my plate to think about as well as my lil sweet Sanaa and my husband. What do i do? All i know is i want to see her everyday, who knows when its the last. Especially, my wish is for her to spend as much time with her only grandchild who is just turning 1. I am TORN. I am praying that God tells me what direction to take. crying.gif

Hello All,

I know that we have an LDR thread that posts a few hotels, but I needed a bit more detailed info for Kingstons housing/hotel options.

I am going down for the interview on Oct. 18th, and plan to fly into Kingston probably. I dont want to spend some crazy amount of money there for hotels the whole time. I'd rather just rent out a guest room or something or pay a solid fee to stay somewhere for about 4-5 days. Do you have any suggestions.

I'm looking for someone who is willing to rent a room for a few days or rent a little guest house with access to a bathroom and kitchen.

Hotels are an option if they are cheap. I mean cheap cheap. $50 night. Thats what I stayed in last time in Kingston and it was fine, but no kitchen. If you have family, friends or another suggestion, please let me know.

Thanks! star_smile.gif

We stayed at the seahorse rider inn in portmore. We payed like 40 a nite and were abt half hour from the embassy. There was a cheaper room than what we had. It was clean i would go back. They had continental breakfast. There are others on that strip but chris sister said that this was a good one.
