CanadaWant Credit?
Mathew got a secured credit card when he first moved down here, and he added me as an authorized user(they asked for SSN and DOB on the webform). It made MY credit score jump 10 points the first month. He's had his card for 2 months now and his score is in the 700s. I had heard on here that sometimes banks look at secured cards a little wary, but when I look at Mathew's credit report all it shows it Capital One, nothing about the type of card. But I guess we'll see when he decides to apply for something new.

CanadaWhat's the best bank?
I've set up all of my checking accounts online. I've got US Bank, Bank of America, and Chase. They just require that you send in some kind of signature card by fax, mail, or drop it off in person. I faxed mine. Had absolutely no problems.

I love my Bank of America account. They're always so nice on the phone and I really love the keep the change program. I saved like $40 in the first month. It's amazing how that stuff can add up.

CanadaMontreal Consulate
I'll go ahead and agree with Inky. You aren't even far enough in your process to be able to suck up to anyone at Montreal. You've still got a way long ways to go and even if you did know anyone to "suck up" to, they couldn't help you at the stage you're in.

This is stressful on everyone, but you have to learn patience and that your time will come. It just hasn't yet.

Mathew said that his family doesn't celebrate it up there, but since I love me some turkey sammiches we're going to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving anyway! Now I have to go to the store and pick out the prettiest turkey, talk to it like I love it, bath it in some butter and then send it for a day in the sauna. ;)

CanadaPostcard Exchange!
I think Ashen did a great job with the postcard exchange. Having new management isn't going to magically make anything better. And I don't think that one person was deliberately not sending postcards. We're all adults here, and life gets in the way. It just happens. It's going to continue to happen. I personally(and it's nothing against you, Ant. I think you're awesome :)) think that the more rules and things you put on this, the less fun it's going to be for everyone.

Having said that, Mathew and I are going to be moving, so I wont be in the September exchange and maybe not in the October one, depending on how long it takes for my life to settle down. I do hope that everyone enjoys themselves like this exchange was meant to be in the first place.

It's actually the other way around for us. Mathew moved down here and we got him a secured card and added me as an authorized user. MY credit has jumped leaps and bounds since doing that and his is great too. He did it all on his own and still isn't an authorized user on my card just because I haven't had the time.

I would like for all the junk mail to stop, though. Booh!

Canadait's been 6 months waiting for AOS :(
One of the July filers actually did this. They sent in a copy of their NOA as well as a letter asking for expedite because of impending travel and it was approved lightning fast. Of course, what works for one wont work for all but it's worth a shot if he wants to travel back to Canada before the year is out.

CanadaDV 2011 Interview at Montreal in October - placed in administrative processing 221g - how long wait?
I can see how he would ask you about your address, but don't understand how it would apply since you're now legally married.

For instance, here in Kentucky common-law marriage isn't recognized, but it is in Alabama. If you were applying solely based on common-law marriage AND coincidentally moving to Kentucky, you're marriage wouldn't be recognized(and if you were moving to Alabama it would be). But again, as you're now legally married I can't see how that would matter unless he's trying to go a bit deeper into it.

My wedding photographer was so amazing. I literally wanted to strangle my minister and I thought that most of my pictures would turn out botched because I'd be cussing or giving him the evil eye the whole time, but as it turns out theres very minimal shots of my angry face, lol. Just a lot of me trying not to cry and in turn, looking kind of grumpy. But I'll take that better than red faced, snotty nosed, and crying like a 3-year old. :)

Our wedding colors were not even the colors that I wanted in the first place. One of my bridesmaids and I went to Davids Bridal to try some dresses for the girls and decided to try a plain dress and a sash, but they didn't have the color that I wanted in the sash. So just to see what the idea looked like she grabbed a purple sash and put on her hot pink dress. The rest was history. I fell in love right then and there.

I wish I could do my wedding day every day. You know, minus that evil minister. He's a bad, bad man.

Everyone's pictures look so prettyyy. :luv:

I mean, there's nothing more romantic than a full pig on a spit. Head and all.

My dress came from Davids Bridal! When I was looking online I saw the dress, but the model they put into it just looked so awful that I thought the dress was awful. Until I put it on and my mom and other girls moms started to cry. A bunch of those other women came over and hugged my mommy and kept telling her that she's not losing a daughter and that the dress was made for me, etc. It was VERY emotional.

Alfred Angelo also has some very, very gorgeous dresses!!!

My venue requires their catering and for whatever reason, Mathew doesn't want to do a dinner. So we're just going to serve Hors D'oeuvres.

I would rather have my guests eating actual food, so I'm gonna live out my dream through you on this one!!!! Make me proud! :P

We're going on a cruise for... a really late honeymoon when we can afford it.
We're probably going to do a Carnival cruise, I've been on 3 of them and they're AMAZING.

I love cruises.

I've never been on one. I've never even been to the beach. I know, it's sad. I just hope I dont get sea sick!

I'm just really excited about it since it'll give us a good excuse to get away for a while. However, this might all backfire if there's a little Mathew and Kayla on the way. :luv: :luv:

I bought the invitations last night. Exclusively weddings has a promotion going on right now that if you spend $150 you get a free 2 for 1 cruise certificate. So I ended up buying 100 invitations, 3 bags of sand for my unity sand ceremony, bags for my bridesmaids and a shadow box for my mom. I figure it would be an awesome way to spend our one year anniversary since we weren't able to get quite the honeymoon we wanted.

Tomorrow starts wedding crunch time! I'm going on my diet and starting P90X. The wedding is sneaking up on me fast, it's only 4 months away now.

Around here it generally goes half half. We will NOT be listing that we have registered anywhere on our invitations. I created a website for us and will list the info there so it doesn't look like we're demanding that they buy us gifts or anything. This way, they have a choice and don't feel pressured into anything if they aren't in the right financial situation to be buying us a gift. I'm even going to make a "registry" button so that they can decide whether they want to click it or not, LOL.

After all, I'm planning this wedding so that I can be married to him, not to get gifts. But gifts would be pretty awesome.

On another note, I'm seriously terrified about my Bridal Shower. All day today at work one of my MOHs was texting all the other girls and I wasn't allowed to see. :( I just hope I get some good lingerie!

How rude! I am registered there.

Everytime I drive down the 401, I see Bed Bath and Beyond somewhere near Toronto. It is one of the reasons we registered there. At least they can order "somehow".

I registered there just because I got a "we will give you a $20 gift card if you register for 10 or more items". That wasn't hard and I used the gift card to buy some frilly things I wanted but wouldn't have spent my hard earned cash on.

My fiance' and I registered at Home Outfitters in Canada mostly for his relatives that want a "real" store to go to purchase something. They actually had the cheapest down comforter of the 3 places we registered. Sheets were cheapest at Bed Bath and Beyond for some really nice 400 count ones. I am hoping people purchase the things and bring them to the wedding (which will be in the U.S.) so we don't have to deal with "importing" them. We will just have to wait and see.

Maybe Mathew is the only Canadian that hasn't been clued in on the wonders of registering. He kept trying to convince me that people didn't do that up there and that no one would know what it was. Pfft. He's probably just trying to get out of helping me register. I asked his mom and she knew what is was for. I basically just have to keep telling him that if we register for something, someone might buy it for us, so it's like christmas!!!

Wes got me a set, so my wedding band is plain but thats ok with me because the ring he got me is kind of swirly so if it hadnt been a set we would have had to get something custom made to fit properly. Wasn't too bad, he paid about $1k for the set and I absolutely love it. I still catch myself looking at it. I got it redipped shortly after we got down here and I absolutely loved how shiney it was. He got a good protection package on it too, so I can go get it redipped free any time I want.

I can't wait till Wes' ring finally comes in. Its driving me crazy waiting for it. I went the complete opposite of traditional. Our rings don't match in any way, not in detail, color or material. We got him a dark tungsten ring that has red dragons in it. He loved it so much and I wanted him to be happy wearing the ring every day. Once we get it I'll take some pictures for you guys, cuz its really nifty! His cost me about $400.

You know I figured FOR SURE that Mathew would go crazy over one of those dark tungsten rings, but he didn't even bat an eyelash at it. I guess underneath that rough metalhead exterior is a diva-man just DYING to get out, LOL.

That's hilarious because I wear the same random size- 6.75  But, after putting my engagement ring together with my wedding band (I had them attached) I made it a 7. For some reason it seems like when the band it thicker it fits a little tighter.

Very beautiful band and engagement ring! They look great together :)

Ohhh sounds pretty! Its ok to be shallow every now and then right? ;)

Its true about white gold. My engagement ring and wedding band are made from white gold and I need to have it re dipped, but it usually holds its color for a year. Just looking at it now, its been 9 months since I've had it done and I don't see any discoloration. I also take it in to get cleaned every few months, it always looks so much nicer after its all cleaned and shined up! And then watching it shine in the light is pretty much memorizing

I don't know exactly how much my rings cost, and I don't really want to know. They were Bill's surprise gifts to me so we can keep it that way! They're gorgeous and definitely weren't cheap, so that's good enough knowledge for me.

I didn't get mine redipped at the first 6 months inspection. I didn't know I needed to, and the girl working at Jared didn't say anything about it. My ring didn't start looking really dingy until about a month or two ago. Maybe if I got it cleaned more regularly it would be better, but the closest Jared to me is 120 miles away. But I love my ring so I'll make the trip to make it pretty!!!

My rings are a size 7 and I like it that way because sometimes during the day my fingers swell. Having it a bit bigger makes it much more comfortable.

I just hope my photographer can do something about my hands in our pictures. When I took a picture of my ring my fingers look like little sausages, when in reality they're much smaller.

Does anyone know if you have to go to the place you got your ring to have it 're-dipped'? The colour of my ring is terrible...haha. Like, can you go to any one to have it re-dipped for a price? I got my ring in Oklahoma at uh...Harris Jewelers...haha XD

I don't think that you do, but if there was a warranty bought with your ring it will void the warranty. I can't take my ring anywhere other than Jared or it will void the warranty. Booh!

But I would assume you could take it anywhere that services jewelry.

I've heard that about white gold. I love love love my platinum ring and I'm so glad that my hubs opted to choose it. The sheer weight of the ring compared to my friend's white gold ring is crazy! It's a lot more dense. It does scratch easier I think, but overall it is very heavy duty and has kept it's color perfectly. I hoenstly think that this ring will last millions of years it is so tough.

Getting this engagement ring made me realize how much I love diamonds, LOL. They are just so beautiful. I have a 1.26 round brilliant solitaire in a 4 prong raised knife edge setting. I cannot wait to add the diamond band and make it even more blinging.

Okay, sorry.. I'm done now!! Just had to let the shallow part of me out... I am like totally infatuated with my ring, LOL.

Same here. I'm like obsessed with my ring. When he proposed I couldn't even say yes right away because I was drooling over the ring, LOL.

I think platinum is a great choice for jewelry. My engagement ring is a 14K White Gold 1 Carat t.w. three stone ring and while it's beautiful and gorgeous and I love it, it turns yellow after a few months. White gold loses the plating that is on it, and has to be re-dipped in rhodium about every 6 months. I actually took mine to Jared yesterday for it's inspection and didn't realize how bad it was until I got it back. Now it looks like it did the day I put it on for the first time. I could be wrong, but I've heard that platinum doesn't fade or anything the way that gold does.

So lesson here is either go platinum if possible, or make sure to purchase the warranty on the ring. The girl at the store yesterday said that without the warranty rhodium plating costs around $30 every 6 months. Having warranty does it for free as long as you have your ring.

And honestly, Mathew was more picky than I was. The girl showed me 2 rings, one that curved and one that didn't. He tried on every single ring they had. Either they were too simple, not simple enough, too wide, too shiny, or just plain ugly to him.

Wow, I only paid about 300 for mine.
It's 14k white gold with 1/4 carat of diamonds in it.
I could never pay what you guys did for yours

It only ended up being $479 for mine. It's 14k white gold with 5/8 carat princess cut diamonds in the band. His actually cost almost $100 more. But he spoils me, so I let him pick out whatever he wanted and I didn't even look at the price tag. This is the one thing I can do for him during this wedding. Everything else is so bride oriented. There's the dress, bouquet, shoes, jewelry, hair stuff, etc. What does the groom really get?? A tux(which is usually rented)? lol.

My wedding ring is 1400... and that's after 600 was knocked off.

But I bet it's pretty as can be!!!

I probably wouldn't feel like I couldn't breathe when I saw the price tag if we weren't going to have to start a whole new life together when he moves down. I still live with my mom so I have nothing of my own. We have so many things to buy that almost 1k on a wedding ring isn't realistic for us. I'm sure he still would have bought it if she hadn't of knocked some off, but I would have felt very very bad. He makes great money right now, but we're the stingy type and trying to save up for our love nest. :luv:

We went and got our wedding rings the day before he flew back home. We originally just went to get his, but the girl at Kay was a girl that is from my town so when she knocked $500 off of the price of my ring, he had to jump on it.

So here they are.

Attached File  SDC10746.JPG   182.97KB   13 downloads

And here's one just showing what my ring is supposed to look like when paired with my engagement ring. Unless you see the two together I think that the wedding band looks kind of weird. I hated it until I put it on my finger with my other ring. Then it was all :luv: :luv: and Mathew pretty much knew that it was mine no matter what it cost, lol. Good thing she knocked some off the price because when he saw the tag around the ring I think he almost died!!! Although, when I saw the price tag on it I think I almost fainted a little too. $979 for a wedding ring is just a little too expensive I think.

Anyway, here is my two pretties together:

Attached File  SDC10761.JPG   160.3KB   17 downloads

And the best thing about the day is that neither of them have to be sized. I wear a 6.75(sometimes 7 depending on the day) and he's a 10.5.

We've been trying to make our registry, but I think I'm just going to have to wait for him to be here before I do it. I'm the type of person that wants his opinion and doesn't like to do the whole thing by myself. I actually care if he hates the shade of green that I love, etc. Of course, I've been advised by co-workers of mine that have been married for years and years that I'll get over that real quick, I'm still going down fighting!! I'll make him help if it kills me! It'll probably just kill HIM, though.

I'm so frustrated with my mom right now. I could slap her. It's that bad.

She agreed to pay for our wedding cake. I haven't asked her to pay for anything up until now. I booked my cake lady a month ago and the girl told me she asked for half down on all the cakes and the other half at the wedding. Half of it is $85. Well I never got the womans last name and i called her to get it so I could send her check out and I told her I'd be sending it tomorrow.

I called and told mom that I wanted to send the check out and mom told me she didn't want to send it right now. She wanted to wait until a month before the wedding. #######. This woman books up fast and if I don't pay her tehnically I haven't booked her and someone else might for my date. I couldn't blame her and I wouldn't.

So alas I will be sending her a check myself and from MY checking out.

Ugh!! Rant over.
