US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI NEED ASSISTANCE
What about your parents? Aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters?

USCIS isn't going to care whether or not you can save up more money before this is done. They want to know things NOW. They don't care about his income, either. They want to know about yours since you are basically paying his way until he gets his work authorization. So in your thoughts, leave everyone else out of the equation except for YOU. You already know you don't make enough, and unless you can make up for it in assests, you will HAVE to find a cosponsor. Otherwise, I'm sorry to say, but no dice. It's a very cruel thing, but USCIS doesn't care if he's your one true love, they're all about the hard facts of the situation, and you can't live on love.

I made $50 under what I would need to be 125% over the poverty line. That's the most frustrating thing to me in the world. So I had to ask my mom, no big deal. You should try and find someone to do the same for you.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Cosponsor

Back when I did it I wrote exactly as in the example forms and had no problems with it, who said they had problems with saying N/A and saying it was for a K1? We also had my hubby's father co-sponsoring me and we wrote the same thing for both his and his father's I-134.

It was on a different thread. I read it the day I posted this thread. I mean, I can't see it being a problem if I left it unticked. But some consulates are real big meanies. Maybe if Canada was a hard consulate it would be a problem, but for this I don't think it would be. I could be wrong, but then I could be right.

Thanks so much you guys. I was about to drive myself insane. I just really, really want this to go well and to be able to have my honeybunnybabybunny forever and ever. And yes, I call him that in public. :P

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Cosponsor
I have absolutely no savings at all. I had about $1200 saved up, but then I had to buy the plane ticket to go up there for the interview and the rest went towards the wedding. :bonk:

Even if I did I probably couldn't get the documents in time anyway(from the bank). I leave for Lexington Friday and I fly out to Montreal on Saturday.

My mom makes about $50,000 a year so I know that she'd have no problem being his cosponsor. It's only me and her in the house, so she has no other dependents.

We had an awful snow storm at the last of the year and that knocked me out of at least $500 worth of pay because I literally could not get out of where I live. Stupid mountains.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Cosponsor
I posted this in the Canada forum, but no one really knew about the questions I was asking. So, I'm gonna repost it here and see if anyone can help me.

Keep in mind that I'm about 1000% certain that I'm overthinking this whole thing. It's what I do. I worry so much about not ticking the right boxes and putting the right thing on the lines that I'm driving myself crazy.

Anyway, here's my situation. I barely missed the poverty line for being able to not use a co-sponsor. But regardless I would have used one anyway, just in case. I feel that even if I had made it that it would have been such a close call I may have had problems. My mother, on the other hand makes more than enough to be my cosponsor so I'll be using her.

Question 3 asks who the affidavit is executed for. I'm completely torn. I want to say that it would be me since she's doing this for me, but then I also want to say Mathew since she's co-sponsoring him. Also, part 5 says that she's willing and able to receive, maintain and support the person listed on question 3 so that makes me think it's Mathew again because she wouldn't be supporting me, it's him. So which is it??? I did get an answer on the Canada forum for this that says Mathew should be listed(and that completely makes sense to me), but I need reassurance because I'm such a worry-freak.

And then there's question 10("I have submitted a visa petition to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on behalf of the following person"). Do I leave this blank or put Mathew's name there. Again, I want to say to put None because SHE hasn't submitted for anyone, I have.

Last but not least, question 11. I left mine unchecked and wrote just like in the example forms that it's N/A(k-1 visa process for permanent residence), but for hers should I put N/A( Co-sponsor for K-1 visa process)??? I read earlier tonight that there's been some problems with doing it like in the example forms so I think I'll refill the form out once I get back to work and check intend for mine, but what would I put for hers?

I think I basically just need reassurance on this. I'm leaning in one way but I'm so worried that it'll be wrong that I'm driving myself insane. I spent all day at work googling every combination I could think of and searching the forums but I came up empty handed about it.

Thanks so much for reading this awful mess, and try not to laugh too hard since I'm sure the answers are really, really simple. :P

CanadaDo you think this will be okay?
Not this year since the payraise that would bring me to that amount didn't kick in until the last month. According to my paystub from last time it shows me making $14k this year.

I think I'll probably just have a co-sponsor anyway so it wont look like I had my employer forge a letter stating a higher salary than what I've been paid. Next years stubs will show the almost 27k amount though, but that's next year. Doesn't help me now!!! smile.gif

CanadaDo you think this will be okay?
I just printed off my employment verification letter with salary included and it states that my yearly salary is $26,732. Of course, my tax statements wont show that since I've been here a year and a half, and my change in pay is due to a recent raise that I got. So with that in mind, do you think they'll request a co-sponsor from him during interview?
Kayla*MathewFemaleCanada2009-10-31 09:41:00
CanadaDo you think this will be okay?
I think I'll play it safe. Just in case. They may not ask for an additional co-sponsor, but then they might. I'd hate to send Mathew to his interview unprepared. I just really need to go full time at work. They I wouldn't have to worry about this.

Thanks fo much for the information. It really helped.

Unless you are military, as far as I know, it is 125%. If you're cutting close enough to question, better to get a co-sponsor than find yourself wishing you had, no?

See that's what I thought. But when I posted a similar thread I kept getting answers that it was only 100%. Seemed weird since everything else I had read said 125%.

I'm definitely going to use a co-sponsor if it IS 125%(and I'm 99.9% sure it is) because I just don't want to risk it. My mom makes well over the poverty level so I'll use her. But by the time I can get her on the ball about getting her info I'll have to leave for Canada. So I'll just have to mail it to him instead.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts, though!

CanadaDo you think this will be okay?
I'm the petitioner and I'm going to visit my fiance next Saturday. I wanted to have my I-134 done so that I can give it to him. But I wanted to know your opinions on if you think I should go ahead and bring a co-sponsor's documentation with me anyways.

I currently work part-time, and my yearly salary is somewhere around $18,400. I've been told elsewhere on the forum that for the K-1 we do the I-134 so I would only need to show that I make 100% of the poverty level. I thought this was only for military and I was under the impression that I would need to make over 125%. I'm unsure about this since I'm getting mixed answers and what I thought from the beginning seems to not be the case.

Now, with him included my household size would be 2, and under the 2009 poverty guidelines that would mean that 100% of the poverty level is $14,570 and 125% would be $18,213. If I only have to prove that I make 100% then I should be okay, but if I have to prove that I make 125% then I think I'm cutting it a little close to not use a co-sponsor.

What do you all think?

CanadaQuick Question...Maybe a silly one :-/
I just got back from visiting my fiance in Montreal. Surprisingly, it wasn't all that cold. I packed the biggest bunch of warm clothes you'd ever see and laughed at myself once I got there. Except at night. The night was cold, lol. But maybe it's because Laval is an island so it feels colder.

But I second the Eskimo thing. If I get to go to Mathew's interview I'll be so bundled up I'll look like Kenny from South Park. I'm southern, I HATE cold weather!!!

Good luck! But you probably wont need it!!

CanadaChristmas Presents...whatcha going to buy?
My honey and I aren't yet together but I love Christmas so I'm taking his christmas present to him when I go visit him in 6 days. We're putting all of our money into savings for the wedding and for living expenses after the wedding so we promised not to get each other anything too awfully expensive.

*I made him this journal that has letters in it for every day up until I go see him. Decorated it and everything!

*I'm also getting him the newest season of American Dad since he seems to love that show. Every time I talk to him and it's on, he's watching it. But it always seems to be re-runs(I guess since he's watching it on some Vermont TV channel that kind of reminds me of the WB), so I'm getting him the newest season of it that way he doesn't have to watch the same ones over and over.

Yay christmas!

I'm not real sure about the phone card thing, but I do know that if you have AT&T for your home phone provider with unlimited long distance you can get unlimited Canada calling for $5.99 a month. I got that and Mathew has unlimited U.S calling through Bell so we pretty much talk until we're blue in the face.

On Mathews phone bills it actually shows him how much he saves by having that certain plan. One month that I looked at he had saved over $4,000.

Good thing for calling cards and phone companies with sweet calling plans. smile.gif

$4000!? It's outrageous they could charge that much!! blink.gif
But that sure is a lot of talking wink.gif

Im with Fido and their North-American long-distance plan is an extra $30/month, which is about what I spent in June on my phonecard, and I still have $3 on it. Often I'll call him and he'll just call right back using MagickJack. So the cost of phonecalls has really been minimal for the both of us. My issue is that we have no records of all our phonecalls. But with the suggestions I got, we'll have something to show if ever they ask for evidence at the interview. They might not ask for any of it, but it will just give me peace of mind in the mean time.

What can I say? It's like I'm 13 again. smile.gif

But seriously, we do talk for hours and hours on the phone. And we love to sleep on the phone during the night. His snoring gives me peaceful dreams. wink.gif Besides, his sleepy voice makes me swoon in ways that should NOT be possible.

CanadaAffidavit of Support question!
I'm getting ready to mail my documents to Mathew tomorrow or the next day, and have decided to use my mother as a co-sponsor. Problem is, she has just had surgery and has been off of work for the past month and I'm not sure when she'll be going back. I don't really have the time to wait for her to go back and get settled into her routine enough to get the employer letter. Now my question: She makes well over the poverty line for a household size of 3. Can I just send in her paystubs and tax returns instead? We keep everything so I can send in a ton of paystubs to them, that's no problem.

So what do you guys think???

Also, if I'm correct he'll have to get his birth certificate and his immunization record translated before the interview. Am I wrong?

I had read on here that some members didn't and everything turned out okay so we planned to do the same thing. I guess maybe we were going about it the wrong way because when we got to the end it wouldn't let him sign and submit. After he uploaded the photo, even though it said it didn't meet the specs it let us continue without the picture.

The form is apparently really glitchy from what I've read elsewhere. The whole time he was annoyed with it and was saying how he could make it better. But at least it's done and over with!

He got all those extra photos because he'll need some for his medical too, and then just in case disaster strikes to one or two of them.

You should probably try after sometime as the site might be down or something. You can save the application on your computer, so you don't have to worry about the stuff you have already filled out.

They're like the Santa Claus of the government world. They know every step. Since my case hit NVC I started calling them and they could tell me the exact days when things were sent and received. They'd more than likely know if your passport has been sent back to you or if it's ever been received by Montreal. I'd say it's worth a shot.

Hello... so I just went to the Montreal Consulate website and I saw few numbers there. Did they always have phone numbers on the site that you could call. Bc I swear they never did... has anyone called the number listed and spoke to someone about anything.

I sent my passport back after I was approved for my visa since I wanted to cross the border one time before I actually crossed for good and I still havent received it back yet. I sent it back Nov 30. I am really hoping to get it back before Christmas. I have been emailing them but no response, so just wondering about this phone number I saw.

Anyone used it and got answers????

If you read on the Montreal embassy page here, they don't answer the phones anymore. They don't even hardly answer emails. But maybe it's changed and they've decided to start answering phones again, I'm not sure. I haven't tried to call them.

Have you tried calling DOS?

This is why I thank goodness that Mathew is driving down instead of flying. His kitty(which I lovingly call Fat Kitty, because she's 19 pounds) is very, erm, vocal about her likes and dislikes. Hopefully his mommy will ride down with him and can keep her calm the whole drive. It'll be a long 15 hours, but I think she'd do better with that rather than an airport full of people and sounds and smells.

I think Georgia will be giving you the cold shoulder for a few days after this. ;)
