CanadaK-1 people waiting for interviews at Montreal
I called DOS and Montreal logged my packet 3 the day after they received it. Just a waitin' on that interview.. whistling.gif

Question! Doesn't Montreal automatically extend, reissue, or whatever it is they do to NOA2s that have an expiring NOA2? My expiration(I'm making it sound like milk, LOL) is 2/27/2010. So if I dont have my interview before that they'll have to push it back. Riggghhhhttt?

CanadaWeather & Road Report
I'm the same way. I get so whiny when I get cold. It has never been this bad where I live, so I'm insisting that Canada misses Mathew so it's sending some of it's winter to us. We woke up this morning to a fresh blanket of snow but I'm thinking it was less than a half an inch, just enough to cover everything again. I really need my driveway to unfreeze though because I need to go to the store and get stuff for when Mathew gets home tonight.

Oh, yeah, and he got stuck in Cedar Rapids again last night because of how bad it was in Chicago.

CanadaMilk in Bags
I remember the first time I visited Mathew I got up early one morning to make him breakfast for his birthday and stomped into the bedroom, furious, telling him he was gonna have to get up and go get milk because HE forgot it. He giggled at me, took me to the fridge and pointed at the bag that held the milk. I was totally freaked out and had no clue that you had to put the bag in the jug thing or it wouldn't pour right. Took me a good 10 minutes of looking at it and poking it before I finally was able to use it.

Darn milk in bags...it DOES taste fresher though when you open the bag for the first time.

I just can't believe anyone would have ever thought to put milk in bags in the first place.

CanadaWhat to get a Canadian man for Valentine's Day?
I love shopping for Mathew. I get him something every chance that I can get. But then, down here(as in Kentucky, since I don't know everywhere else), most girls get their men something for Valentines Day. Any excuse we can get to buy them new clothes(especially underwear. Mathew thinks they're just good and comfy when they've got holes in them), cologne, food or anything is an awesome day!

I've been working on a journal for Mathew. I've been writing in it a few times a week since we last saw each other and I've written down some recipes for his favorite dishes that I make for him. Then I got him a new blackberry and a new phone number with my Employee Rate Plan thingy through AT&T. He's so excited about the phone.

CanadaDenied Visit to Canada w/ K1
When I went to visit Mathew in November I told the BO that I had my K-1 visa papers in my bag if he wanted to see them. He asked me what a K-1 was and after I told him fiance visa, he understood. From the way he was acting I don't think he was going to let me in until I said that. I hadn't been taken back to secondary or anything, but he was acting weird questions, and waiting for me to slip up and say the wrong thing so he could have an excuse without looking like an ###. I know they need no excuse, they can do it at will, but he was trying awfully hard!

I'm sorry you went through this. Maybe have him come down next time and bring all the ties that he can that way you've got a better shot that this wont happen again.

CanadaCanada-to-America Banking (Revisited)

I dont bank with RBC. Can I open an account now, a month and a half before moving or is that not an option?

I don't see why it wouldn't be an option. People open up new bank accounts all the time. But to sign up for the other one I'm pretty sure you have to go to a branch to do it.

CanadaWhy Do Canadian Fast Food Restaraunts Serve Fries With EVERYTHING!
I lovvveeee Sonic's Strawberry Limeade.

It's too bad that the guy who owned the one in town stopped paying his suppliers. They cut him off when he owed $200,000 and for a while he had his employees going to Save-A-Lot to get the food. After a few months the employees showed up to open the restaurant and there was a sign on the door saying their check would be in the mail.

:crying: I want a Limeade!!!!

Harvey's was another very yummy restaurant in Canada.

And I loved Mike's. I had some kind of chicken Alfredo with broccoli and it was soooooo awesome.

CanadaWhy Do Canadian Fast Food Restaraunts Serve Fries With EVERYTHING!

What's with Americans and poutine anyways?

Bill thinks its gross. How can you think poutine is gross?! It's amazing! And his parents think the concept is "weird" I'll show them weird... geez :P

Maybe it was just the way that La Belle made it. It sounds like it should be awesome, but the gravy at La Belle was too sweet tasting for me. I'm totally willing to give it another shot though, especially since I would kill for St. Huberts fries and gravy. If it were made with that stuff I'd consider moving to Canada instead of having him move to me. LOL

CanadaWhy Do Canadian Fast Food Restaraunts Serve Fries With EVERYTHING!
Mathew went out and got us dinner one night and brought back these weird yellow boxes that were tied together. When I opened it I looked at him like  because it was chicken, fries, and gravy. Then of course, I tried it, and now I really believe that heaven is in a St. Hubert box. Scores is close, but St. Hubert is really just...heaven. I don't even want to know how many calories is in it, though.

Still haven't wrapped my head around the concept of Poutine. But maybe that's because the first time I tried it, it came from La Belle Province(yuck). But he promised to take me to the 24 hr poutine place in Montreal that's supposed to be awesome. Maybe I'll like it better after that.

CanadaCurling Gold!!!
I just really wonder how Curling came about. I mean, it's like a rock...you slide the rock on ice...there's two guys/girls in front of the rock to scrub the floor.

This is the first year I've watched the winter olympics, and the first time I've seen curling. I think I probably sat in front of the TV for a good 20 minutes with the  face on. But you just can't look away from it!!! I watched the China and Canada match and I was all "gooooo boys!!! scrub that floor!!!"

I bet they'd be awesome at cleaning kitchen floors. ;)

CanadaAffidavit of Support Question!!

Kayla, did you get any answers to your questions?

I dont have any answers to offer, I would just be guessing, but you might get more help on this subject in the Embassy & Consulate forum.

Good luck!

Nope, didn't get any answers. I was trying to avoid posting another thread in the Embassy forum but it looks like that's what I'm gonna have to do! :)

CanadaAffidavit of Support Question!!
giving this a little shove. The interview is in 9 days and I DON'T want to mess up over something so simple. The support will be our only hurdle to cross, we have all the other evidence.

CanadaAffidavit of Support Question!!
I didn't want to start a new topic, so I figured that I would just expand this one.

I completely realize that I'm probably over thinking it, but I need some help. I'm filling out my moms I-134 since she will be the co-sponsor for Mathew and:

Question 3 asks who the affidavit is executed for. I'm completely torn. I want to say that it would be me since she's doing this for me, but then I also want to say Mathew since she's co-sponsoring him. Also, part 5 says that she's willing and able to receive, maintain and support the person listed on question 3 so that makes me think it's Mathew again because she wouldn't be supporting me, it's him. So which is it???

And then there's question 10("I have submitted a visa petition to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on behalf of the following person"). Do I leave this blank or put Mathew's name there. Again, I want to say to put None because SHE hasn't submitted for anyone, I have.

Last but not least, question 11. I left mine unchecked and wrote just like in the example forms that it's N/A(k-1 visa process for permanent residence), but for hers should I put N/A( Co-sponsor for K-1 visa process)???

I think I basically just need reassurance on this. I'm leaning in one way but I'm so worried that it'll be wrong that I'm driving myself insane. I spent all day at work googling every combination I could think of and searching the forums but I came up empty handed about it.

Any help would be appreciated.

CanadaAffidavit of Support Question!!
Okay, now I've got another question.

On my mom's affidavit of support that she has to fill out it asks if there are people in the household that are wholly or partially dependant on her. I'm filing taxes on my own this year, but last year I was a dependent.

So am I wholly, partially, or not at all???

Also, on question 3 it is asking about Mathew. It has a part that says "relationship to sponsor". I'm assuming that this is asking what his relationship is to ME, so on her form that she fills out, what would I put for the relationship???

I know these probably have real simple answers, but I'm so unsure.
Kayla*MathewFemaleCanada2010-01-25 18:25:00
CanadaAffidavit of Support Question!!

Not really, the employment letter confirms that you are still employed to date and hold the position. That's also an important factor to show, along with the actual income made.

My husband's W2 was a bit lower than his employment letter since he had since received a raise between the W2 and when the letter was written.

Well that actually makes a lot of sense now that I'm thinking about it.

I'm still on cloud 9 from getting my interview date so I'm a little loopy!!!
Kayla*MathewFemaleCanada2010-01-25 16:34:00
CanadaAffidavit of Support Question!!
That's what I was thinking.

But considering the differences in amounts wouldn't that make my employement letter obselete? I'm still going to include it, but I'm thinking that it's worthless almost.
Kayla*MathewFemaleCanada2010-01-25 16:05:00
CanadaAffidavit of Support Question!!
So now that we've got our interview date I'm working on my forms for the interview.

On the employement letter that AT&T gives us for employment verification it has my salary at 26k, but at the bottom it says that Part-Time reps salary is based on hours worked, and could be different. I actually brought home 18k.

So which do I put on the affidavit of support? Will it make a difference if my employement letter says something different from what I actually made?

Thanks y'all!!!

CanadaApproved!!!!!!!

Glad all went well. When is Matthew planning to POE?

Probably the first or second week of May. He had his graduation ceremony where they give out their engineering rings, but his school doesn`t end until like April 20th or something like that. Then he`s going to go up to Rouyn-Noranda(hometown) and spend a week or two with his family and friends and then move to me. I told him as long as he`s here 6 weeks before the wedding he can move down whenever he wants. We have to order his tux, get everything lined out that we need before the wedding(immigration wise), and then get our marriage certificate.

I`m going to go ahead and start working on the AOS papers so I can get myself familiar with it all. I think I probably did about 10 trial runs on the I-129F for some reason.
Kayla*MathewFemaleCanada2010-03-24 08:32:00
CanadaApproved!!!!!!!
Thanks so much everyone.

I`m still in shock that it`s over now. Of course there`s still AOS and other things to conquer, but I can rest easy knowing that Mathew and I made it through this.

There was one man there for something else and the girl at the window was giving him such a hard time about his name being different on his passports. She basically screamed at him for about 20 minutes and when he left his face and shirt was soaked with sweat from all of the stress. I felt so bad for him, but was also glad that we had all of our ducks in a row.
Kayla*MathewFemaleCanada2010-03-23 18:13:00
CanadaApproved!!!!!!!
We got there at around 6:45 this morning and Mathew decided to let me out so he could go park and I could go ahead and get in line. Well that would have worked out, except for the fact that he dropped me off ON THE WRONG STREET!!! There`s 2 Canada tax buildings right next to each other and he dropped me off at the wrong one so I had to walk in the freezing cold and rain to the right one.

By the time we actually got there we were still the first in line, but I realized that I had my iPhone still so of course I had to make Mathew take it back to the car(good thing because there`s some parking on that same street. We paid $15 for the whole day). Then other people started to show up. It was seriously so cold that we were all huddled underneath the doorway, trying to stay dry and get protection from the wind. I started to get aggravated though because it was like there wasn`t really a line since we were all huddled together, which would have made our efforts to get there early useless. Lucky for me, an hour later when they opened the doors(around 7:30!) we were standing on the left side and that`s the side they want you to go in on so after we were shooed away like pests, Mathew and I were still the first ones in and got the A. The nice couple that came right after us squeezed in and got B, so I was happy for them.

Security wasn`t too bad, we just put our stuff in boxes, and walked through the metal detector. The guard told us to walk down the stairs and sit in the waiting room and someone would be there in a second to get us. About 2 minutes later the guard come to get us and we rode the elevator to the floor where everything goes down and we waited until we were called. The lady at Window 11 ways super nice! She even made a copy of his birth certificate, which we didn`t have. We only brought the originals. She gave us some kind of slip and told us to go pay and then wait some more. By the time we paid she was calling us back to window 11 to take his fingerprints, and then she told us to go back and wait and we`d be called to room 7 or 8 to do our interview.

The waiting felt like hours. We were both so nervous and just watched the room keep getting full while we were holding hands. In all actuality I think it must have been about 10 minutes before we got called back to the room but it felt like an hour. When we were called back we took deep breaths and walked in the room. We were instructed to put our things on the chair and raise our hands to swear that everything was true, and we did.

The CO only asked us like 6 questions. He never looked at our evidence, never looked at the love book(damn!), never even looked through the forms really(I assume they do this before hand and already know whether you are approved or denied). He asked Mathew what he did for a living(Aerospace Engineer), asked him how we met(internet), asked him who proposed and how(him at the lake), asked when our wedding date was(June 26th), asked why he would leave Canada when he had such a good job(DUH!), and then asked me what I did in the US(AT&T). After that he took Mathew`s thumb print again, and then told us "Based on the information you have provided today I can go ahead and tell you that your visa has been approved. Congrats to you both and Welcome to the United States"!!!

After that pretty much everything is a blur. We were out by 8:50. Then it was breakfast time at Cora`s and home for a nap!!!!

I`m so happy!!!

CanadaProof of ongoing relationship..
We weren't asked for anything. Heck, they didn't even take our DS156, DS156K, etc. I thought that was weird, but I also noticed that the CO had it in his stack from our packet 3.

No matter what I think you should still take something. No matter if 100% of us on here weren't asked for it, I'd still bring it. You never know if the CO you get will be the one that wants to see it. Better safe than sorry!
