the lady at the local office where i went for fingerprint told that USCIS may speed up the processing time because of the incoming election. She also told me that one of the filer came back and showed her passport and everything after 6 weeks from the fingerprint appointment day. I hope that all the Sept filers will get their passport before the election or before Christmas.


6 weeks from finger-prints to passport? I wouldn't bank on such a quick process. Interview scheduled, interview attended and passed, oath scheduled, ceremony attended, and a passport applied for, processed and received, all in 6 weeks.... that's going to be far from the norm.

And never mind impossible for those like me, applying early in the 90 day window. The absolute earliest that I could take my oath is November 30. If it happens by the end of January, I'll be more than happy. Working in law enforcement, I'm just dreading the scheduling of my interview and oath. I'm in court a lot, and I can't change those dates. Hope USCIS will understand and be flexible.

As for the election, USCIS won't be busting a gut to speed up our applications. Every state is different, but for most the deadline for registering is early October - so September filers are SOL. Only potential upside? Maybe there was a spike of applicants earlier this year (hoping to vote in November), so less demand now. Doubt it though!

Don't worry, Chantel. The online status doesn't give accurate mailing dates.

My online status said my NOA was mailed on 9/7. It wasn't. The NOA was dated 9/7 but postmarked 9/10 (received 9/12).

My online status now says that my biometrics letter was mailed on 9/11. Nothing received yet, but I'm sure either today or tomorrow I'll receive the biometrics notice dated 9/11 and postmarked 9/12 or 9/13.

This sounds like a dumb question,but what do you mean by local office? Is that the one where we go for fingerprinting? (if thats the case then thats gonna be Jackson,MS)Or are you referring to district? By the way,I have no idea whih will be the district office i'll be since i'm midway between New Orleans,LA and Memphis,TN.

It's the office where you'll be interviewed. Were you interviewed for AOS or Removal of Conditions? Unless you've since moved it should be the same venue.

CanadaRecommend some good banks in the states.
1) Make sure your bank is FDIC insured.
2) As previously suggested - if you will travel a lot within the U.S., go for a national chain (to avoid ATM fees).
3) If you will travel a lot in state, look for a bank with a big local footprint (to avoid ATM fees).
4) If you won't be traveling much at all, a local Credit Union could well be the best bet.

We have two accounts - one with First National Bank of Fort Collins (because of their extensive local ATM & branch network), and the other with Wells Fargo (due to its extensive nationwide network - particularly in the West).

I've not had to use another bank's ATM the entire time I've been in America. No problems with hidden fees from either. We got our mortgage through Wells Fargo too, and don't have a single complaint about them.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionReceived Notices to File

I have in the last week received 6 notices (all from different UCSIS offices) to file for removal of conditions. Three for my daughter and three for myself. Our conditional permanent resident cards don't expire until February 25 2012. Following the 90 day rule I shouldn't file until 12/25/11.

Why would I be receiving these notices? Any thoughts?


12/25 is only TWO months before your Green Card expiration. Your 90 day window actually starts later this week - hence the reminder letters.

Is your spouse's name included on a mortgage/ rental agreement? If so, I'd provide that.

Also, what about utility bills? So far, it looks like you just have a cellphone bill.

It looks like you both drive, so I'd also include copies of your driving licenses showing the same address.

Hi fellow V'jers,
Its been a while since I've posted. We will be filing my removal of conditions on December 13th and I have a question. My Canadian Passport expires I think June 12, 2012. I know I have to send a copy of it along, should I get my new passport before we file with a longer validity date or does it even matter? I just planned on renewing my passport in March when I went home for a visit. My 2 year greencard expires March of 2012. Thanks for any help you can share.


There's no requirement to send a copy of your passport with your ROC application. Just a copy (front and back) of your Green Card.

Totally agree with everything Shawn & Emi wrote.

I know this site is all about bringing loved ones to the U.S., but there's nearly always another option for couples who want to spend their lives together. Andy - I suggest you start looking at the immigration process for Argentina. If you love each other (and it seems you do), it really won't matter where you live.

And besides, you could do a lot worse. Argentina is beautiful - and (highly likely) your only option.

Ok - Neal's guide to American "chocolate" bars.

US Milky Way = Very similar to a UK Mars bar.
US Mars bar = Kind of similar to a UK Topic.
3 Musketeers = Similar to a UK Milky Way.

But as with all American bars, the chocolate tastes VERY different. It's all down to the different ingredients, and personally I'm not a fan.

By the way - American made Cadbury's products taste like #######. Ditto American Kit-Kats.
