US Citizenship General DiscussionPassport Photos: Bring or not to bring to theinterview?
She was talking about citizenship interview at local office in the USA, not consulate.
But it is not a bad idea at all to have a couple spare pass photos in your valet, just in case

US Citizenship General DiscussionTravel out of the country
Trips in the past 5 years only count....
Instruction form for N-400 Part 7. C states:
"Provide the requested information for every trip that you have taken outside the United States since you became a lawful permanent resident..."

I know someone who had a hard time (RFE) included for not listing trips from 8 years before interview.
Apparently this wording leaves a lot in the discretion of IO ... :(

US Citizenship General DiscussionN 400 and tax return

Seems like the best way is to go to IRS website and have them mail your transcripts. I have the same question though. Do you need to order an account transcript or a return transcript??

Account transcript shows more information than return transcript.
Those guys at USCIS are info hungry so IMO more = better.
That's what I requested and enclosed with the N form

US Citizenship General DiscussionN 400 and tax return

thank you.will print out the whole thing

Don't print anything.
Go online to irs.gov and in a few mouse movements you can order your "transcripts of account" for needed years.
You will receive them in a few days by mail.
If you have a fax machine you can have them faxed to you.
You will have them in several hours.

Than you can say.... That was easy... thank you Maad ;)

US Citizenship General DiscussionA foreign couple's perspective on our Oath of Citizenship

Anyway it got me thinking. Switzerland is a wealthy, free country. Certainly a life in Switzerland would be a great improvement for someone from a country with an oppressive government like China. And yet immigration is simple, with no drama.

It is not simple. Much more complicated than here, in the USA.
I happen to have several good friends living in Geneva, I am visiting them at least twice a year, and I know what they needed to do to get their citizenship.
You can do some reading on official Swiss websites.

US Citizenship General Discussionapplying for a job with U.S Citizens only...

There are even several Federal jobs that simply require employment authorization.

You should ask the HR department in the agency in which you are applying. I work in a Federal agency and for several of our "US Citizen" positions, if you can prove that you are in the process of becoming Naturalized, they can hire you. Of course, if you are denied citizenship then you will also lose your job . . .

True. And that is the time when form N-300 is necessary. At least in couple states I am aware of.

US Citizenship General DiscussionLA Office - Citizenship test/interview experience

Congrats! Thanks for your note, it is really interesting that people insist to bring their cell phones into the USCIS building.

Is there any specific instruction NOT to bring the cellphone to USCIS office?
I was there WITH my phone a few times and never had a problem. Once was instructed to put it away when I tried to check news in waiting room.
Many people do take public transportation (for $2 or so instead paying for parking $25 or more). Cell phone nowadays is a tool of personal security.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCertificate of Naturalization - is it okay to laminate?

If you wish to do something analogous, make a b/w copy of it (this is legal--a full-colour copy isn't), then laminate the copy (ditto).

Where did you read about the color copy been illegal?

US Citizenship General DiscussionLose German Citizenship

most certainly :) I can help you educate yourself about what USCIS calls "administrative denaturalization".
Be prepared for some shocking read, though:
http://digitalcommon...274&context=llr

it is 10 years old, a lot changed recently and if you read it all
page 25 from the documents states just opposite (explanation by judge Kleinfeld) :

Citizenship in the United States of America is among our
most valuable rights. For many of us, it is all that protects
our life, liberty, and property from arbitrary deprivation.
The world is full of miserable governments that protect
none of these rights. Many of us would be dead or never
conceived in wretched places in other countries, had we or
our ancestors not obtained American citizenship. The opportunities
that we want to pass on to our children depend
on their secure rights to stay in this country and enjoy its
guarantees of life, liberty, and property, and the domestic
peace and prosperity that flow from these guarantees.
An executive department cannot simply decide, without express
statutory authorization, to create an internal executive
procedure to deprive people of those rights without even
going to court.

US Citizenship General DiscussionLose German Citizenship

let me add one last note to the final step (when coming home to the USA and being asked about the lack of stamps in your US passport):

make very certain, that you DO NOT say anything that could be interpreted as claiming to be "not a US citizen".
DO NOT say something like ".....because I am German"
DO NOT say something like ".....because I am a dual US and German citizen"

ONLY claim holding a German passport by saying "....because I hold a German passport".

This is extremely important especially for the first two years of your newly acquired US citizenship,
because during those first two years your US citizenship could be revoked on the spot by an IO.
After the first two years are over, it takes a federal judge to revoke your US citizenship - and the offense would have to be major.

hmmmm... could you please point to the law stating that?
I have same issue when traveling to EU... my old passport does the trick no matter where I go...often without even opening it :) kinda nice...
And other thing is, if you opt for Fast Entry with CBP you will be dealing with no waiting lines in the airports and no human checking your stamps... just machine
IMO the best spent $100 ... just land, debark and go... in ORD usually takes me up to 15 minutes from the plain to the car. About 10 is walking from the gate :)

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 NOVEMBER 2011 FILERS

Hi Maad. How was your ceremony? Let us know.
Thanks

:)
Very nice indeed it was. And short, from 10:00 am. I was the very last to receive The Certificate and was on the street at 10:45.
All together 80 something people from 27 countries. By noon I was already done with another line at passport agency. My passport is to be pick up on Tuesday.
The most time consuming was the security screening at USCIS building and then at Kulczynski Federal Building (State Dept Passport office).
Done my friends for good. No more personal contact with USCIS ever. However during all this journey I did not have any problems to complain about.
So another thank you goes to all the federal agents who simply are doing their job.
Can someone make me red please?
Thank you all!
Bye bye Posted Image
