PhilippinesBooking plane ticket from Philippines

Paid with my CC. Got FF (SkyMiles) miles for the card, but you can't get miles for her travel on any airline I don't believe.

I think you are part correct, The person flying is the one who earns the miles, not the person who pays for the ticket.
Most airlines give you the ability to transfer miles. But the first thing you have to do is earn the miles. Sign every body up for an account so at least you can lock in the earning of the miles. Make sure the airline knows about her number before the boarding pass is printed . To have miles credited after the flight has started is a major pain. You may never have enough for a free airline ticket but might have enough for a car rental discount or a free hotel night.

Looks like there may be fewer direct flight options in the future.

I guess if the flight makes a short hop out of the Philippines first then the price for the Philippine segment is less and then the tax is less.

I used American Airlines frequent flyer miles but the tax and processing fee had to be paid in the Philippines.
I have been told that some airlines will let you pay for it here but she will need a (photo copy) of the credit card that was used when she get to the airport to check in.

My understanding is tthe Philipines are trying to reduce the human trafficking. If a person actually pays for the ticket it is more likely they understand where they are going and why. A Trafficker would not hand over cash or his credit card information to the person he was selling in to slavery to buy a ticket.

Philippinesstill not sure

I did not wait for the letter from the embassy as suggested by other members here since it may take a while.

Our official letter came 1 day after she had visa in hand with the CFO sticker. Don't wait for the letter. You may even have visa and be out of the country before you get the official letter.

If you want to do it slow you can but at least in Manila she could have visa in hand in about 5 weeks from now. Ours took about 7 weeks but there was almost 2 weeks delay for personal issues. The packet you will get from the embassy has nothing in it. Just tells you to go to the website. The next thing you need is the manila case number MNL#.
You can get it by sending email to
NVCInquiry@state.gov

PhilippinesNeeds advice about wiring money to the Philippines
Besure you look at exchange rates as well as fees. You may find the exchange rates cost you more then the fee does.

Unless you have someone back in the Philipines who can take care of the details you will be paying big fees. Once you have some one set up in the Philipines to transfer and actualy pay the individule bills then send bigger amounts. I found xoom.com to be the best. Not only was their fee ($5.99) less but the they had a good exchange rate. Or you can send as USD and you may find a local bank to get an even better exchange rate.
Watch out using ATM or Credit cards. Not only do they have fees but the exchange rats is usualy very bad.

Philippinesmet once & got married
In the Philippines you should not have a problem. As stated earlier by the time you get to the interview it will be over a year. Keep good records of the time you communicate, email, chat, phone, video, etc. Unless there is an economic problem that prevents it, I would expect to see some kind of contact between you two at least every other day. We had several hours per day every day of logs. But they did not even look at ours.

PhilippinesLooking for a good investigator
I would be cautious of what this friend has said. If they really know so much as facts and they are your friend then they should be able to back it up with exact details(name,place.time). As friendly as the Filipinos are some times they just like to talk and can be real back stabbers for the strangest reasons.

Next time you can't reach her on the phone, try www.aryty.com and send a load to her phone. It only takes about 30 seconds to get a load sent right from you PC.

5-10 days is about right for pick up in Manila but 15-30 is a little long for delivery to home. Even pick up in Manila is actually picking up from the 2GO courier service. The additional distance to your home should not add that many additional days. Maybe we could do a Philippine survey to see actually delivery times or you could contact 2GO and see what they say for delivery to your location.

We need new letters of intent; are these basically identical to the I-129F letters other than a new date? I think I should probably elaborate a bit more about how we met or something?

Also, I'm unable to get an official-looking letter from my employer. I do have the pay stubs, W-2, ITR, 1040, bank deposits showing the direct deposits, and this statement printed from theworknumber.com that says I work there -- but I could have easily faked that one, it is just HTML and you hit Print. This theworknumber.com thing is all they provide. I've contacted HR twice in writing asking for something better but they are ignoring my request. How doomed am I?

My employer also uses theworknumber.com. I had the same problem. I eventually was able to get some one from personnel and HR to give me a letter when I explained it was for immigration and it was going to Home Land Security, I think just the idea that Home Land Security could be involved and just might might come direct to them to see why they would not provide the letter kind of scared them in to providing it.

<BR><BR>It is is "that time" thay will not do the exam. Good news is the extra time for you to update documents and there will be no need for extar time for packet to reach embasy. She will be able to have medical and just a few days, 3-5, have interview.

The info below is very good and very detailed. But they are "gaps" or "delays" in the time line you don't have to wait for if you don't want to.

You two should have putting the packet of papers for her together YESTERDAY and only updating any that were out of date today.

You don't have to wait for medical results to schedule the manila embassy interview. Yes there is a risk that she will not pass medical and then you will have to rescheduled but if she is in good health the risk is low.

You don't have to wait to pay the visa fees until after the medical. Again there is a risk, I guess if she were rejected at medical from some terrible illness and could never get a visa you would be out the fee. But again the risk is low if she is in good health.

As I said before the time to visa in hand can be very fast (under 3 weeks) from here out and it is mostly up you.

Hi here is the next steps to happen after receiving your MNL#.

NVC will mail your case/I-129f package to Manila USEM. This can take between 5 - 14 days depending. Average 5 days.

At this point you should start preparing your fiancé's Packet 3.
http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3224.html

Download the K1/K2 Interview Preparation Instructions. Make sure to have all the requirements in the instructions. Review and go over it 3 or 4 times to make sure all is filled correct.

Your fiancé will need to prepare for her Medical at St. Luke's Medical Center Extension Clinic (SLEC)
Required Documents:
http://www.slec.ph/u...l#required-docs

Pre-register online and have her print out this letter. This is the appointment letter she needs to present at SLEC.
http://www.slec.ph/us/registration/

Medical fees are: 15 years and older USD 213.35 / PhP 9,387.50. This is paid at SLEC.

ST. LUKE'S MEDICAL CENTER EXTENSION CLINIC
1177 J. Bocobo St. Ermita, Manila 1000 PHILIPPINES

If your fiancé passes her Medical They will give her a date to come back to SLEC and get her results and medical will CD of chest X-ray

Now your fiancé will pay and schedule the USEM appointment.

http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3238.html

You will now pay for you the fiancé I-129f petition there in Philippines. Fee is U.S. $350 / P15,218. Send a little extra as it is bases on current exchange rate. Cash payment at any Bank of the Philippine Island (BPI) branch. Just go into the branch nearest to her and tell them you are paying for K-1 Visa application fee. They will know what to give her to fill out. If she is unsure on what to fill out ask the staff there to help her fill it out.

BPI Branch Locator:
http://info.bpiexpre.../BranchesSearch

Require documents at BPI:
Passport and MNL number

When filling out the online applicant or speaking to the USEM agent. You will need the receipt number on the receipt from BPI.

USEM will give her some dates to choose from. Once she selects a date. Appointment is set!! You can reschedule but they will push you further in the month or next month.

On the interview date she will have a time most likely 6;00 - 6:30 AM to be at the Manila USEM. She needs to have all her required documents in hand, appointment letter, and passport. Again refer to K1/K2 Interview Preparation Instructions as for what is needed. Make sure she has all papers organized. It makes for a easier processing at the embassy and shows seriousness. Buy a organizer with tabs. Label the tabs for each requirement.

Once at the embassy, she will fall in line. They will take her appointment letter, check passport and assign her a number. At the embassy they don't allow any electronic devices.

You are not allowed to enter the U.S. Embassy/Consulate while carrying any of the following items:

battery-operated or electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital diaries, digital watches, pagers, cameras, audio/video cassettes, compact discs, MP3s, floppy disks, laptops, or portable music players
large shoulder bags/purses - only bags that can be carried by hand will be permitted
bags such as travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather, cloth bags, and zip folders - you can only carry plastic bags containing application-related papers
food items (refreshments are available for purchase in the waiting area)
sealed envelopes or packages
cigarettes, cigars, match boxes, lighters
sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files
weapons or explosive materials of any kind

If she needs her cell phone they will ask her to check it in at the security section. They will give her a card so she can retrieve at the end of interview.

They will give her a form to fill out on how to deliver the passport with visa. Either it's deliver to her home address or she can go pick it up at a 2GO location.

Once inside, she will need to look on the board for her number to be called. She will go to the window and ask for her paperwork. Then she will be finger printed. They will tell her to wait again. Once her number flashes again, she will have her first interview with Filipino consulate. They will ask her a few questions and check and process her documents. (MAKE SURE SHE HAS ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS). If all is in order she answered all questions to satisfaction. She will then wait again for her number to flash again on the board. Then she will have her final interviewer US consulate. Consulate will process her paperwork and ask a few questions. If all is in order she will be told to wait again for her number to flash. Then she will go to the 2GO window where they will take her passport. They will give her a receipt (make sure to ask if they do not give one).

That's it for the USEM interview. You can now breathe a little easier.

Now if there is a problem. They will give a 221g form and state what the issue is. Now you will need to get them whatever they want in order to proceed. Now this is pull a long process when your in Admin Review. Look on VJ for Admin Review stories.

It will take 5 - 10 days for 2GO to receive visa and passport from USEM.

2GO locator:
http://www.2go.com.p...ols/outlets.asp

2GO Tracking (enter MNL number):

The following is from the CFO website:

Requirements for Attendance to Guidance and Counseling Program

Two (2) valid identification cards (IDs) with photograph;

Duly completed guidance and counseling form;

If married, certified true copy and photocopy of marriage contract on security paper from the National Statistics Office, or Local Civil Registry Offices; or original and photocopy of marriage contract duly authenticated by the Philippine Embassy/ Consulate (if married abroad)

CFO link.

The following forms may come in handy:

Sworn statement that advice of parents or guardian has been asked. (for those who are 21-24 years old)

Consent to marriage of a person under age. (for those who are 18-20 years old)

Marriage applicants who are age 18 to 21 must have parental consent in writing, those age 21 to 25 must have written parental advice (a written indication that the parents are aware of the couple's intent to marry). The revised Family Code of the Philippines, which took effect on August 4, 1988, prohibits marriage for individuals below the age of 18.

U.S. Department of State link.

The quote above is from the section where they are talking about getting married in the Philippines. However, the CFO has been known to require parental advice or parental consent from K-1ers.

It's all on the Consular's discretion whether they require consent from a parent or guardian.

Basically Medical is like 3 days start to finish. Day 1 is exam and tests. Day 2 day to review test results. Day 3 is getting needed shots.
They need about 4 business days to get results to embassy. On last day of medical verify they can have results to embassy before your interview date. Double check holidays to not count them in your time table.

PhilippinesAirlines in the PH

typhoons are seasonal. im from luzon and most places you can drive. you can rent cars too specially if you have relatives who knows who. or hotels can arrange for you too.

I understand they are seasonal. And if you are in driving distance of Manila, let's say 6 hrs there is a good chance you would be taking a bus anyway and not affected much by weather.

I am referring to places like Cebu, Davao City, Tagbilaran City, Tacloban City. When you travel to Manila for your interview be vary aware of the weather. Here in the USA 300 miles may only be a 5 or 6 hr drive but in the Philippines it can be 24 hours. If you have a hard appointment time just be very aware of the season and weather. Consider flying a day earlier and using the money you saved with the cheaper promo fare to stay an extra day in a hotel in Manila. If the weather is clear you have an extra day to relax. But if the weather is bad you still can make your appointment.

General comment about scheduling flight in the Philippines. They do have a lot of typhoons, not every day and not every where. Here in the USA if your flight is canceled it can be a pain but you can usually rent a car and drive if you are just going 1 or 2 states over. But in the Philippines because of all the islands driving is not an option. In a typhoon the ferries will be stopped too. If your planes are flexible great but carefully planning to fly one day for a next day morning interview.

I forget if it was Cebu or Zest, but they even had a little triva contest and scavenger hunt for prizes in flight that was kinda fun. I think the prize was a T-shirt or hat with the airline name on it.

See if Zest Air is an option. They also have some low fairs.

I flew out of Tacloban City and as far as airport security it sucked. The only thing separating screened and unscreened passengers was a bench. Screened passengers were stepping over the bench to talk to people in line to be screened and then just stepping back over the bench with out re-screening. About 1/2 the passengers set off the metal detector which might get you a second look but most of the time the guard would just wave them on.

You may find some local third world airlines that have "bad safety record" but with any international airline that flies in US air space you are in good hands .

I have used Delta many times without incident and service was ok.

My absolute favorite is Korean Air. The service even in coach is amazing.
Brian121957MalePhilippines2012-07-26 15:53:00
PhilippinesGoing to the USA
Coach seat on Korean Air included.
Slippers so you can take off your shoes and don't have to get your feet or socks dirty.
Hot moist towels to refresh your self.
Wine with the meal.
Food: Meals yes, but also between meal snack.
Real forks, spoons, plates and glasses. (not plastic)
Tooth brush and tooth past to clean up before you land.
Breath mints.
Eye shades to help you sleep if you have trouble sleeping with any lights on like I do.
Served juice and water about every 20 mins to keep everybody hydrated. And this is not served from a big cart. It was hand carried so it was still easy to get to the toilets or just take a walk to stretch your legs.
Attendant monitoring the toilets. Toilets were cleaned about every 3 passenger. Even the toilet paper would be triangle folded on the end like in better hotels.

When I have found details like these they are typically only included in business or first class seats on Delta.

Delta is ok but I prefer Korean Air. The cheap coach seat on Korean air gets much of the same treatment as the First class seat on Delta.

I booked with American Airlines using Frequent flyer miles. It let me book all the way to Fort Wayne, IN (FWA) for the same price as LAX. I was able to book the flight from the US but the fees and taxes (4480 PHP) had to be paid in the Philippines in person.

I have head that some airlines only require the person in the Philippines to present the credit card that paid for the ticket , (or a photo graph of it) at the ticket counter. But I can't vouch for that method.

I also have looked at this site several times. They use Delta and Korean Air as well as a few others. They seem to have good prices in to LAX. Look for the 1st time immigrant pricing. There price list is hard to read.

If he had a part time job and taxes were withheld it is almost grarenteed that he would get a refund of the amount witheld. Even if he was not "required" to file do to income level. If you dont file you dont get a refund.

just seams odd, if he paid for school with part time work it paid well and he should have filed a tax return.

If his parents paid they have money and likely had some investments in his name. that to would have required him to file a tax return.

if he had grants or scholarships they almost always require a FASFA filing which wants a tax return.
if he had student loans they too use FASFA data.

If his income was small he should have filed a 2010 to get a refund of taxes that were withheld from his pay check.

If he was paid in cash there was not likely anything withheld. There is also no pay stubs or any record he even had a job. If his employer paid in cash I would be very surprised that the employer would now provide documentation of his pay.

Unless she has a good job, which is hard to find in the Philippines, you should consider some form of support. Offsetting the additional expenses she will have to communicate with you is a good place to start.

Talking is good and do it often, every day and try for twice a day. But video chat is better. Make sure she has Internet, computer, cam and headset at HOME. Don't make her go to café to talk to you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCHEATING checking your visa status
i like the basic idea of tracking close numbers. I am sure it is not an exact science but then you don't know the exact info submitted with the other applications. All it takes is some little thing to cause an application to take a short delay while some information is verified and the time table is all messed up but on the average and for showing trends it could provide useful information.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOne-way ticket or round-trip ticket?
There have been case where the return flight was not canceled and the airlines end up reporting to USCIS that you actually used the return flight. Then it looks like you left to soon and then later made an illegal entry back in to the US. Change or cancel the unused return don't just walk away from it.

This type of question has come up before. Even if you plan to go back for a visit in ,, oh,, say 1 year. Don't you still have the same problem then. You end up in the Philippines needing a one way to the USA.

If you can plan ahead look in to using airline miles. You can get credit cards that earn "points" or miles on most airlines. I used American Airlines. When you use airline miles they charge miles based on global regions not specific airports. So small airports like Salt Lake Fort Wayne, Nashville are the same as Los Angles. Manila to North America was 35,000 mile/points. Just applying for the Credit card and a few purchases will get you 25,000 mile/points. They also charge each direction separate so a one is is 1/2 the points of a round trip.
