today i got a response letter back from the vermont service center, expedite request denied cause we are under security checks. wow, i wonder how long we are going to be under security checks, this is so unfair, when i first started this process i thought i would only take 6 motnhs to a year, if i had known that i would be stuck in security checks this long i would of never have gone thru this process.

after finding this website, i know now that we have applied for the wrong visa. I decided aganist the fiance visa b/c the process appear longer. I feel as if i have directed my fiance into a losing battle. His interview is next week in Kingston and the odds are aganist him. I do not know what to say to him, do i tell him my fears and what i have recently learned? He thinks that i am so smart but i feel so stupid. His entire family is joining him on the trip to the embassy. My mind is racing - i need to do something to help the situation. I can't even answer his phone calls b/c he thinks that something is wrong with my tone of voice. i keep texting his phone "i love you, I miss you and I will c u soon! ". If i talk to him now, i will only kill his confidence. WWJD?

Ryon don't be so hard on your self. don't let him know because that is going to put block in his mind when he goes for the visa. Let him keep the positive outlook and who knows he may get it. If it does not happen this time you can always apply for the other. Pray for it to happen and for God to be with him. Come visit us at the Yardie Thread you will have alot of support.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWondering how often this happens...
I Have my case number and created my account at USCIS to track the status of my petition (Case number found on back of cleared check)

According to my account online and the phone system when I call, my status is pending ect. Which is good, at least I know it is in the system.

My question is, they never mailed me a NOA1. Does this happen sometimes? Maybe the government is trying to cut expenses and stop mailing paper documents out jest.gif jest.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDoes there always have to be a touch after NOA2?
I am beginning to think that the lack of hardcopies being mailed out, is due to the new conversion to an all electronic process that the USCIS is converting too.

As far as the 'no touches' on the USCIS website, I don't know why that is happening.

Not singapore but Middle East.. But maybe you should gather few documentation that you might need in the future, like NBI certificates, and Certificate of Singleness...You will have to prepare your NBI Clearance or Police Certificate from Philippines, and other countries you lived in that lasted 6 months.

Thank you for that advise, I did browsed some tips and guidelines from this site but still like to hear from those who had any experiences doing it here in Singapore. smile.gif

For me, it will not affect...you have to renew it...it has only 8 months to expire...anyway, you will have the old passport after you renew. You still have reference on the passport number you used in your case docs...

It will not affect to your K-1 application, renew it and bring along w/ you the old one on your day of interview... just in case, good luck!

Hi,

I am getting my K-1 package together.

I just mailed my passport in to have more pages added.
So I can't send a copy of all pages.

I have a photocopy of the first page of my passport.
Will that suffice as proof of citizenship?

I don't have a copy of my birth certificate.
And It's likely that I will have my passport before
I could get a copy.

My fiance is also pregnant and living overseas. I contacted me HI yesterday and they will cover her pregnancy, after we marry of course. They do not consider pregnancy as a pre-existing condition because your only pregnant for a finite amount of time. It's not like cancer where it can go on for years and years. So I would call your HI and explain the situation and see if they have the same policy. I hope this helps.

if there are any Aussies who have gone through the process and are able to help me out, please let me know.

I'm not quite sure what "we have been notified that Sydney has been received in Sydney" means...

Try emailing the Consulate - I am going through Sydney, but they are very good at responding within a few days and always helpful - hope Melbourne is the same for you. Hi Meri and Kai

I waited for NOA2 and then got the police check (I needed the NVC case number, as I put the return address for the results as The US Sydney Consulate with the Case number (the website states that Queensland police check results will be mailed directly to them). I also had to get one from the UK.
I waited until I received Packet 3 to book my medical. When a rang to book it, I was asked to bring the case number with me. This was the NVC Case number - Joe got this from phoning the NVC automated service a few days after we received the NOA2. If that's the case (needing the case number), then theoretically, you would need to wait until your case reaches the NVC after NOA2 and get the assigned number before proceeding with the medical. I got a booking for the following week here in Brisbane, so not a problem with time delay...
I did, however, go to my GP (before even getting NOA2) to get serology checks done, as I did not have childhood vaccination records. This can be done through Medicare, so costs less. I looked up the required vaccinations on the USCIS site - they are age specific, so it's possible to work out what you require. The only one I needed was a tetanus booster. If you do this, make sure that you get your GP to write a letter on the Medical Center letterhead and sign (I also got mine to stamp and sign all the pathology results). The only tests that are not accepted at the medical are the HIV/Syphillis, as you need to take your passport to a pathology clinic that the Medical Examination Dr has referred you to for these.
If it's any help, for details of what is in the Packet 3 email, and some details of the medical, see Posts on our homepage...they are not all listed under the main Posts tab as far as I can see, so you may need to go to Options (left hand menu) > view member posts.

Amberdima,

You bring about a legitimate issue and if you come from a family like mine, ignoring them is not really possible. This is just where you have to be of a strong mind. Yes it is possible to be scammed. I hear stories of people being scammed by people they even grew up with back at the ol' country and recently fell in love with. It's hard when that person is a relative and telling you first hand. I understand. How do I deal with it? First, I accept that every relationship is a risk and make sure that with every step it is a risk that I am comfortable with. After that, if asked about my guy I just say "we are great!" and leave it at that. I might also throw in a "its so amazing how a long distance relationship forces you to really get to know each other. You can't hide behind good sex!" Use the second sentence only as appropriate. As someone said earlier, the nay sayers can only see for themselves. So focus on building a strong relationship. They'll come around later. I was a nay-sayer, and here I am...

No, its not yet in NVC.. coz i spoke to somebody from NVC and thats what she told me. We don't really know whats going on with our petition. I'm starting to get the papers filled out now for the K-1 and i'm not sure about a question and need help.

Concerning the date we met.. I truthfully know we met the last part of April, 07. My husband knows the exact date, as he made his acct on the same day we met on the game. On the game we make accounts and pay monthly fees and the date we made our account is on there.

If they were to ask me when did you meet? My answer, truthfully, near the end of April, 07. He said, we met on Apr 23, 07. Will my answer cause us a problem since it's not the same as his?

I told him,i'm not sure they'll accept I don't know the exact date since he knows. He said, it looks fishy if you can remember the exact date as why would you we never knew we were gonna meet so you forgot the date. I on the other hand made my acct that day and I have proof of the date.

I look at it as won't they think us stupid that he knows and I don't the exact date and think it weird he didnt tell me the exact date? Does anyone understand? I want to be honest when I answer, but everyone knows your future spouse will tell you the correct date if they know it right?

Jolie

If your fiance says you met on the 23rd and you don't remember, why don't you believe him?
It seems you already know the answer to this question.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSetting a Wedding Date
QUOTE (herold n shirley @ Jun 21 2008, 09:45 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello forum

We are preparing to submit our I-129 paperwork. What an exhausting journey so far - sifting through all of the tiny details and going over it all again and again to be sure we've done eveything perfectly.

Anyway, we have two questions that we have not been able to find an answer to:

Are we required to have our wedding date set before we submit the I-129? If not, then when are we required to have our wedding date set?

Are we required to have proof that we have set up wedding arrangements, ie, securing a minister or JP, booking a hall or church, ordering wedding anouncements, etc, etc?

No and no.
We didn't even decide on a wedding date until after my husband arrived here. We prepared an intimate (yet beautiful) wedding in 6 weeks.

Good luck (my mom's name is Shirley star_smile.gif )

I put down my husband's 2 last names and then on the visa they put down one as his middle name. In the U.S. one of his last names is considered his middle name.
But for Brazilians it's not a big deal because their final last name IS their last name (it's the opposite of other Latin American countries) and he doesn't have a middle name.

A regular Public Notary is not enough, because he/she only verifies your signature, but does not take your oath. Does anybody have any experience with this issue? Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

hi evrybody,
i've photos of our engagement, photos with my family and look like a marriage ceremony anyway, is it risky to show that ? how can they know if it's a marriage or engagement ceremony ? thanks for your advices.

You just said "marriage ceremony"....that looks suspicious.
If you have enough proof apart from this then I'd suggest leaving it out.

I read a case on here recently where the K1 visa was denied because the consulate thought the couple had a wedding, when they really had an engagement ceremony (in India).

QUOTE (KimandRuss @ Jul 20 2008, 12:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
At the uscis stage it's not about the Country unless it has to do with a common name or something to that effect that can hold you up in security checks for some time. IMBRA laws, past criminal offenses, previous petitions.... or simple database checks can hold you up for quite some time.

At the Consulate level it has everything to do with the Country. Some Country's have much higher rates of fraud and therefore there is more scutiny and AP involved.

The beginning of the year Vermont was approving some in less than a month. Now they're taking 3+. Happens all the time.

We applied for K1 in 2006 and it took about 3 months for the I-129F to be approved - my husband was in the U.S. about 6 months after sending everything off.
It seems that USCIS is taking more time now than before. Honestly, it's hard to find any rhyme or reason with Immigration.
It may be true that some countries are treated differently than others, but IMHO, that happens more at the consulate than with USCIS (in the U.S.).

USCIS = United States Citizenship and Immigration Services

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUnique request?
QUOTE (ruryan @ Jul 23 2008, 11:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
OK so I am living in Ukraine and I plan on staying here but I have to go back to the states to do a class.

Now I have a girlfriend who I and my entire family is in love with. We have no intention of marrying each other but it seems the only way I can bring her with me is a K1.

Well they just updated their processing time to Jan 18, 2009. Not acceptable.

So I have 2 questions:

1) since I have spent most of my time this year in Ukraine - can I qualify for the non UCIS stuff for a K1? I have business visa here and registration here.

2) since my family and I own several businesses - apparantly if its a H1B we can get an expidite. Would this work for us? Maybe a simple business inventation letter would work?

Please advise.

I must leave Sep 26 and I want her to come with me! Is it possible?

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Business invention?

Yeah it doesn't matter at all.

I've read on VJ that some people have known each other for a few months and met once.

It apparently doesn't matter because some people apply after knowing each other for only a few months, and after spending sometimes only a week physically together blink.gif .

Hello!!! Just one question! If I met my fiance in 2003, do I have to prove it or the evidence that we met during this last 2 years will be enought? Cuz that is what I understood...basicly he lived in Italy from 2003 till 2006, we were friends first and became a couple..the only thing I need to provide is just that we've beeing seeing each other withing this last 2 years right? Even if we wrote on question 18 of Form 129F that we met for the first time in 2003? OMG! So crazy ! LOLO blink.gif

When asked how/when/where you met, give your answer. Be sure to include that you've seen each other personally during the last two years.

One note on the "50% of divorces, 80% living together before marriage divorce" statistics... Those figures, while becoming popular lore, are factually untrue. They are not accurate, and they do not reflect what is happening in America. This is where stats become tricky--people manipulate numbers to make their point, and then it gets repeated so often that is perceived to be true.

All evidence points to divorce rates declining in the U.S. (although the credit crunch may change that), and we are now at the lowest divorce rate since the 1970s (before no-fault divorce was introduced in most states). Divorce has decreased among highly educated couples and those who wait longer to marry. So the news isn't all bad--lots of marriages succeed.

I think this day and age MOST people do live together before getting married (I'm talking about Americans since it seems most couples on VJ did not).
I know that 1 out of 2 marriages end in divorce - I'm sure that Hollywood stars have helped these statistics too. Some people marry/divorce 3/4 times.

Well, this is a good thread. Well done for being so honest.

You know, I would love to see some stats on how well immigration marriages last compared to the 'norm'. I would like to think that we work so hard at being together in the first place, that working at having a happy marriage will be second nature.

And bear in mind, that in the old days no one lived together before marriage, and it seemed to work just fine, perhaps better?

I also would love to see some stats, anyone have any idea where we could get this information? I liked what you had to say Scarlett, however your comment about the old days, well, i dont entirely agree with that, people back then stayed in miserable marriages because they felt it was the right thing to do and put on a happy face for the rest of the world.

I remember this from a class a few years ago...1 out of 2 marriages will end in divorce, but marriages where the couple lived together prior to marrying have an 80% chance of ending in divorce.

I think that we have to be careful about this statistic. Some couples date for years, then move in together (maybe because they feel they should),then get married because they want to, or because that's the next step - some feel a lot of pressure from family/friends - and then they get divorced. Maybe those that lived together got married for the wrong reasons so they were the the people whose relationship ended in a divorce.

I don't think that there is a path we have to follow in order to NOT get divorced. People change, sh!t happens, life happens, you know? I have a friend whose parents knew each other for 3 days before they got married. Her mom is Korean and her father is Uruguayan (but his parents are from Hungary) - completely different cultures and languages - everything. However, they've been happily married for over 25 years. Then there are couples who date for YEARS and then divorce soon after the marriage. I don't believe there is a formula for a perfect marriage...there are no guarantees.

Well, Off-Topic2.gif .... I think you have to have a lot of faith and be as sure as you can that you want to spend the rest of your life with your fiancee. We know that the K1 visa is not a tourist/"let's try this out" visa, yet USCIS gives us 90 days in case.

I suggest spending as much time as you can with your fiancee, do a lot of talking to her, praying (if you believe), and some soul searching if you're unsure about your future together. I think it's normal to be nervous, even if you lived with your fiance in his/her country before applying for the K1.

I lived with my husband in Brazil for months before he came here, and I still worried that he wouldn't like living in the U.S., would miss Brazil, would have too much trouble with the language/culture/etc. I asked him to try it out here for a year since I lived in Brazil for a year, and if he didn't like it then we'd go back to Brazil to live. I never doubted his love for me, nor mine for him, it was always just a matter of where we would live.

We're happily married now and enjoy our life together in the U.S. However, we plan on eventually moving back to Brazil - together.
