My fiance had his Colombian birth certificate translated by a certified translator...Is that enough for the interview or does it have to be translated by the certified translator and also notarized by a public notary? helpsmilie.gif

GET IT NOTARIZED, USCIS OR EMBASSY WILL EXPECT IT.

Not necessarily true.
A lot of people translate their own BC - or have their SO do it.
We had a professional do it in Brazil since it was fast, cheap, and I knew it would be accepted (though I could have done it myself).
You don't need it notarized - AND ESPECIALLY NOT FOR THE INTERVIEW.
Hello...everything for the interviews can be in English and/or the language of the country where the interview is.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow long after approval
Well we applied last year but our NOA2 was received at the end of November and my husband was in the States by mid-March. That's 3 1/2 months. Everything happened over the holidays here and Carnaval in Brasil so I think that may have prolonged the process by a bit.
Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOne more question
I sent copies of our used prepaid calling cards.
As far as personal info in e-mails...we sent 5 e-mails (with translations) and I was careful which ones I sent. We had TONS to choose from as well. But you can use a marker to block out info that no one needs to read but you and your SO.
I chose 5 from over the years, some talking about plans to meet, anniversaries, just love in general...
Oh I'm such a romantic... heart.gif

Copy of teaching certificate from Brazil
Copy of both sides of Brazilian residency card with translation
Copy of Flight Coupons and the itinerary from last trip
Receipt from hotel and business card with translation

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exam in Canada
Sorry neither of us are Canadian but maybe this can help. There is no approved immigration doctor even in the same state where my husband is from.
So he got his vaccines, x-rays, and blood tests done in his city and I made an appointment for his medical exam to be done the Thursday before his (Tuesday) interview. I didn't want to wait 'til last minute but it was the best way since he wasn't going to travel just for a 20-minute medical exam before the interview.
Everything worked out fine good.gif . The only thing is you can't set up an appointment with the doctor until you have your interview date.

You only have to list them if your income is insufficient. If that is the case, you only need to list enough assets to meet the poverty requirement over 3 years.

It seemed I took very few photos while we were living together, never thinking about immigration.

It's pretty hard to take pictures together when it's just the two of you. Bassi and I have picture of ourselves vacationing, they tend to have him cause I took the picture and some monument or whatever we were taking a picture of, or me because he took the picture. Very few of our pictures are of us together. Once, we asked a stranger to take a picture of us on the beach and once we held the camera out and took a silly picture that way. We do have picture together, at family gatherings and stuff like that. But truthfull, they are few and far between.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFathers name on forms
QUOTE (Mark and Hannah @ Dec 27 2007, 05:32 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
That's a relief, since I decided to put 'unknown' for mine as my biological father is not listed on my birth certificate or passport and I don't know any of the information they asked beyond his name (which I only learned recently). Being illegitimate is a pain in the backside sometimes, although it can be surprising how many people are in a similar situation.

I agree with this part (in bold) and there is nothing you can do about it anyway. My husband has met his father but he's not on ANY of his Brazilian IDs and honestly I don't know if he knows his name.

If there is no father named on the birth certificate, then everything about "father" is "unknown". If the father's name is there and you just don't know where he lives or was born etc., then you put the correct name and write "unknown" for anything else that is unknown.

If your father's name is on your birth certificate, you know his name and would write the name and any other information you have. "Unknown" is only an appropriate response then the answer is not known.

Do not submit forms with information that isn't true and doesn't match supporting documentation.

We wrote UNKNOWN since my husband's father is NOT on his BC. We sent in a copy of my husband's BC to verify.

Hi All

I am gathering all my I-134 documentation now and the Letter of Employment/salary verification I will receive form my Company will not come with the Company Letterhead logo and information. Apparently they receive this from a third party vender...

Can I still submit this, or will I need to transcribe this information onto a document with the company letterhead and have my Boss sign it?

Thanks for your help,

Scott

I ran into a similar situation at my work. When I tried explaining that I was looking for verification of employment, the HR person told me that the inquring party would need to call an 800 number in order to verify my income. Obviously, the HR person did not understand what I needed. So I pulled a copy of the I-134 instructions out of my pocket and circled the part that explained that I needed employment verification on company letterhead. I told her that this is an affadivit of support to be submitted to the US government, and that I needed to give them exactly what they are asking for. I got my letter later that day...

Good!

I'm going through all of this again now because we have my husband's AOS interview coming up. I have my contract from work (with my salary), pay stubs, my original letter(s) from my employer for the K1, and a new letter with my salary updated.

If you earn over the 125% you're usually safer anyway. The consulate in Rio told me it was ok to only bring my tax return from last year (although I did bring 3 years with me). The CO DID look at my I-134 - I assume to check my salary. He didn't look at anything else after that but it's better to CYA.

So, if I make an appointment w/ an officer in San Francisco will it be a waste of time or do they have the power to lets say provide me with a new address that allows my application to receive immediate attention?

I'm not trying to jump the line here, by the time I meet with an officer it will be late January and my fellow Sept. filers should be going through in February.

I am very pleased to report that my application HAS BEEN APPROVED!!!!! I called USCIS earlier this afternoon and dialed through to the RFE line, inquiring about all of the touches and the turnaround time for a definite response. The very friendly officer on the phone checked the records and said I was approved! I said "Are you serious?" which in retrospect was probably not the smartest thing to say, and she said "yes, you were approved on Monday June 4." Of course, at that point, the happy tears started and I could hardly make the pleasant small talk that closed the conversation.

Prayers, positive energy, and good wishes really worked. Now on to NVC, I guess!
