K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMarriage to foreigner
I know plenty of situations where people have gotten married for the green card...
It makes me very angry mad.gif because so many of us fight to marry our loved one. But there is only so much that the USCIS can do...if they're too strict then the honest ones would have an even WORSE time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProof of Relationship
I think it is better to send a little bit of each.
We sent 6 pictures, 5 emails + translations, a birthday card + translation, a phone bill, used calling cards, AMEX receipt showing purchase of on-line PIN number (for phone calls), a letter from a friend talking about our love, a hotel receipt + translation (w/ business card)....
But we both had so much more since we're quite sentimental!!
At the interview we were loaded with proof but were only asked to see pictures...

The above does not include proof of meeting.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPictures
As far as I know, in Brazil they are.
I made a giant scrapbook that my husband and I showed (and explained to) the CO behind the glass - so there is no way he could have had them.
If you think the CO may keep them, don't do what I did....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresForeign Birth Cert. and Police Reports
The police records are only for the interview - but my husband and I sent in his BC with the initial packet. We did that to "show" who he - to kind of verify everything we included with the I-129F.

From the K-1 guide here on VJ:

Color Photo's of you and your fiance(e) together. Make sure you write your names, date, and location on the back of every photo. Provide two to five photo's. If you only have a single copy of the photo, then make a color copy and send that. If it is a digital photo, have it printed at a company such as kodakgallery.com. You can also make duplicates of photo's at your local photo store (Walgreeens, CVS, etc). Place photo's in a plastic bag or photo sheet and label the sheet. Note that you may not receive originals of photo's back.

That is exactly what we did - and we only sent in 6 pictures from a 2-year span. No problems...

When my husband was still in Brazil we communicated on the phone, through e-mail, webcam, MSN, and snail mail....
However, I only sent a bit of each - in fact, we only sent 5 emails (+ translations) - and that was over a couple of years, so don't worry about that.
Make sure that you both love each other and want to spend the rest of your lives together.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan fiance travel within U.S. on K-1?
Your fiance can use his/her passport as an ID - or their DL once they have it.

You can also go on road trips - which can be fun!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMy proof of having met, is this sufficient?
OP, looks good. I sent something similar:

Copy of Brazilian visas from passport
Copy of stamped entries into Brazil
Copy of teaching certificate from Brazil
Copy of both sides of Brazilian residency card with translation
Copy of Flight Coupons and the itinerary from last trip
Receipt from hotel and business card with translation
Pictures (6) from 2004 until the present

This was only for proof of meeting - I sent more for proof of ongoing relationship.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGetting married immediately for AOS
My husband's EAD was approved in less than 90 days - but we did make two infopasses (which may have helped).
His AOS however has not been updated since May...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow will you know if you passed your Medical examination?
We knew my husband had "passed" because he knew the results of his blood test as well as the TB test. I mean, he doesn't have a disease... so there is no reason for him to "fail".

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDriver's License
In Florida my husband was able to get a DL that is valid for a year by presenting his NOA from the AOS. Otherwise, his DL would have only been valid as long as the I-41 is (90 days).
Now he's still waiting for his GC, but he can drive as long as he has his EAD (which he does).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProof of ongoing relationship
Send what you have - it's ok that you send less than 10 e-mails, and it is good that they're from over the last 2.5 years. I had TONS of e-mails saved, but I only sent 5 and a couple were from my husband.
I would, if I were you, focus more on your communication with your fiance, and not as much as the in-laws, since you're proving your relationship with your fiance - not the parents.

You can send copies of your phone bills, your e-mails and packages...

Hello. I don't even know where to begin - my fiance is a refugee from Afghanistan under the UN and currently living in Sweden, waiting for his passport (we have no idea how long it will take, he has applied)...he has lived in Sweden for 3 years (prior to that he was living in India).....I met him through dear friends. Is it possible to apply for him to come to USA even if he does not have citzenship in Sweden or is it best for us to wait for his passport even if it takes forever? We are frusterated since we've know idea how long it will be before we can be together - and holidays in Europe are costly! Any advice is welcome. Thanks and peace to all

He'll need a passport.

I was worried about this, so I followed the guide and left blanks.
But I also traveled to Brazil to attend my husband's interview and knew that if worst comes to worst I can redo it and have a notary at the consulate sign.
But everything was fine...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat exactly does the "processing timeframe" on the USCIS website mean?
It doesn't mean much...
USCIS is way off on their dates. They either take a lot less time - or a lot more...
Sad but true.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNecessary to go Back a Third time?
I can't tell you what to do - only what we did and why.
I spent June & July of last year with my husband in Brazil. When I came back to the U.S. we sent out the K1 application (in early September).
We both wanted to be together for Christmas/New Years like we had the years before. However, we decided it better to wait for me to meet my husband in Brazil for his March interview (we had an idea when it'd be but not the date yet) than for me to go in December. I couldn't do both because it's expensive!
We spent 8 months apart - the longest time ever for us.

I'm happy with our decision though because we met in Rio de Janeiro (a BEAUTIFUL city) a few days before the interview - and stayed a few more after my husband got his visa. The best was that we were together for the interview and together when he moved to the U.S. He didn't speak English and I was able to help him at the POE. I also wanted to be with him for this experience. My husband had to have his medical exam in Rio and I was there too (though it was a piece of cake).
And like I said, we were together again after 8 months apart - and in Rio. We had a perfect (pre-) honeymoon for 10 days at the beach and sightseeing.
It was my hubby's first time there too....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNecessary to go Back a Third time?
QUOTE (MR2nice @ Nov 21 2007, 01:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm heading back next month to see my fiancee (only for 1 week). It will be my 3rd time within a year. I agree that it "can" help show a continuous relationship.

I think so too, but there are other ways as well.
I lived with my husband during the beginning of our relationship (but we met in Brazil so it was easier). I went back twice before we applied, and then although we REALLY wanted to spend another Christmas/New Years toghether, we decided to save our money (my personal days from work) for me to attend the interview.
I think that when the USC attends the interview it proves a lot.
The CO who interviewed us was happy knowing we had lived together in Brazil.

The COs know that it is not always possible for either of us to travel to see each other as much as we want. That is why e-mails, letters, phone bills, gifts, pictures, etc. are important.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA strange way to prove that you have met?
I lived with my husband (then boyfriend) in Brazil and we never mentioned that anywhere in our I-129F - since it wasn't asked and we didn't have bills in our names since we had roommates.
However, at the interview my husband told the CO that we lived together and he seemed to like that answer.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresstill waiting
It's true - you wait and wait and wait and then BAM there it is out of the blue.
I was thinking how it is unfair that the AOS takes so long (and yes I know it's easier now that we're together - been through K1). I got my snail mail today and our interview letter was there - sent out almost a week ago. Yet our case is still pending on-line (since May) and no touches since then either...no e-mail...NADA.
I wish USCIS would get it together too.
Good luck!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGerman Birth Certificate
We didn't need to have the BC translated until the AOS stage - but we did it right away to be safe. I decided to send his BC w/ the I-129F package too, to kind of "show" who my then fiance/now husband is.
It was quick, easy, and cheap.
I could have translated myself but USCIS said that someone else needed to do it - so I figured I'd CYA.

At the consulate in Brazil you only need to translate documents NOT in English or Portuguese - looks like in Germany it's the same thing. Find out from them...
You will need it to adjustment status so get it done.

I agree with the others.
In addition, this is such a stressful time, it's better to be together.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan I get away with planning a real wedding now?
I've read so many complaints from people who booked weddings and then had something happen during the process that made them miss the date (or think they will miss it).
I'd suggest not setting any plans unless they were WAY in the future. Some people go to the courthouse and then have the wedding later.

We planned ours (well my friends did!!!) in less than 6 weeks. But it was relatively small - intimate and amazing!
