Middle East and North AfricaDo we need to register our marriage in Morocco?
When I got married in July, we were registered by the court and the adoul. For the US, unless you are getting things changed then I would have it registered, but definately have it registered in Morocco because depending on where you go, they do hassle you to see supporting documents of your marriage. Hope this helps

Have a great Thanksgiving

shoplocus.com I use the dial phone card! I call a cell phone in marrakech! I get 1 hour for $10.00! Another thing we did do is he went to the cyber cafe to chat with me! Now we both have laptops! Tomorrow is black fiday you can purchase one and mail it to him I did! And it is the best thing you spend a couple of hundred dollars on laptop but you can always chat on MSN or YAHOO or SKYPE for free all he has to do is get internet service over there! I'm sure it's much cheaper than buying those phone cards! I feel your pain don't worry this will all be over soon he will be with you and it will be in the past just a memory hang in there!

Happy thanksgiving! God bless!

1800 628 7935 is the customer service number! Remember dial phone card! You can check rates online or check out local phone card dealers! Dollar stores usually have them! Good luck good.gif

I have a $9.99 Virgin Mobile phone. I call Jordan for .10 a minute, no calling cards. I just direct dial. Of course I don't get hour long marathons, we use the computer for that. But just for a 'goodnight, or I love you'... .10 a min is just perfect.

Well its not an excuse and I see where you are going. He texts me and goes to the cyber cafe and stays there until about 5 in the morning talking to me. He calls me and it is really expensive. He does call me to let me know when he will be online. We go out of our way to contact each other, it is just that I am trying to find a more costly way to do things. No I appreciate your honesty, but my husband does everything he can. However being a busy college student, I miss his calls and cannot meet with him due to night class. When I want to call him it is too late and being that there is a 6 hour time difference. Cybers close.

Ok, I am sure most of you will agree with me when I saw that I am completely frustrated in trying to find a cheaper way to contact my husband.

Cell phone international rates completely suck. I learned that the hard way. Phone cards take up too much money. I have tried resorting to Skype and Yahoo Call Out, but I still feel like money is getting deducted from my account even if the calls do not connect.

I would love to talk to my husband as much as I like. He does not have a PC at home; therefore, I call his cell phone.

Does anyone have any suggestions because I am at a complete lost and holt.

For me this is not an excuse that he does have a PC at home. I am sure he has texting capabilities to send you a message what time he can talk to you, then he can go to a Internet cafe shop. Or even sending email to you to let you when he will be online or ask you what is the good time for both of you to chat using Yahoo webcam and talk online via pc, and you dont have to spend anything. Everything is possible now a days, I dont see any reason why people can still make excuses.

For once he is the guy, he should contact you more and check how things are and how are you doing. Not you trying to find all the means to call him.. Later on, you will realize how much money you spent by just calling him.

Limit the time calling him, to make him understand how hard for you to communicate with him..

Listen to your intuition, I can see the red flag in here but I dont want to judge anything as I dont even know the whole story.

I apologize just being honest, I can see myself in you from the past.

I will be graduating tomorrow and the one person I wanted to be here for me, can't. I hate that we should be separated from our loved ones at the times that we need them the most. I talked with my husband yesterday and he was so sad to miss my right of passage. For those of you whose spouses have missed out on memorable moments because of this long process, I feel for you and hope that we can all get through this. Middle East and North Africanewbie evidence question

Welcome to VJ!!!!!!!:)

I would show evidence of your intinerary from when you bought your ticket if it was emailed to you...Currency exchange. When I was there, my husband got everything translated there from a translator. I think for all of our documents he paid about $100 for 20 documents. I don't know how it might be in Taza though. However, I am thinking that you could probably find a place here for them to do it.

My husband also had his father and relatives write letters to say that they knew about the relationship and those were translated as well. So those are some other options. You can even send pictures of you two together at various locations, email logs, phone records. I think for my application I just sent a ####### load. I wish you the best of luck being that we are both new to this too. If you have any questions or need an ear do not hesitate to contact me.

Cassie

Hey Mena folks,

I'm new to VJ and this question is for those of you who went through the K1 process. I have visited my fiance twice in Morocco and both times I stayed with his family. The problem is that since I stayed with his family I can't really PROVE that I was in Taza because I don't have any hotel receipts etc. So I am trying to use my currency exchange receipts as proof that I was in Taza. Do you think this will be sufficient. Second, unfortunately its all in French and Arabic so I need it to be translated. How did you guys go about getting you docs translated? My fiance speaks english but I don't think I would call him fluent. And I work offshore and so I don't have the time available to me to hunt for a translator. What are your suggestions for translation?

I'll give my thanks in Advance...Shukran!

Middle East and North AfricaBuying a house or property in MENA
My husband and I are definately considering it because the prices of property in Morocco are great. At one time I considered relocating there, but my husband wanted me to focus on school first. Now the thought is buying property to stay in for the holidays or vacations. Really think about it because you get your privacy and don't have to worry about finding a place to stay.

Middle East and North AfricaMarriage in Morocco
wOW I remember this grulling and long process all too well. I agree with everyone who says be prepared for the extra's. The fees to take someone somewhere, to cut in lines, and to hurry the process. It took about 2 months and a half for my husband and I to get married. During my police interview, it was mostly educational and what work i did. They didn't really touch on anything about my husband and I being together. However they were telling him that he was lucky and that I was pretty. Only that. For everyone getting married, be prepared for the long paperwork, certifications, translations, and time. Good luck

For all of you that continue to wait. Lets all muster up the strength somewhere to withstand this crazy separation. I will hope that this process gets easy and that we all hear something soon. That is my Christmas gift for everyone else. That we be blessed with NOA2's, especially those that have been waiting longer than I have.

Middle East and North AfricaWhat airline do you use to fly to Morocco?
I have had three trips to Morocco and have been very creative each time. My last trip was a killer because even though it was the cheapest, it took three days. I flew with as many carriers as you could think of Delta, British Airways, Air France, Iberia (hate because you have to pay for the food and it didn't have air conditioning), royal air maroc, and the one for the netherlands. I would highly suggest a direct flight if possible from JFK using royal air maroc. Usually I fly into Casa and we drive to Larache. Its cheaper to fly to Casa instead of Tangier. Orbitz and Cheapoair are both really good in terms of helping you find great prices. In the end, it all depends on what works best for you and which carriers you like. I am looking to book a flight in Feb or March also, so this time it will be interesting because I have taken so many.

I am trying to get a ticket to go back in April for my birthday and I was wondering what your suggestions were. The first time I flew United to Chicago and then Iberia from Chicago to Tangier. The second time I flew Continental to Madrid and Royal Air Maroc to Fes. How do you fly??? biggrin.gif

My round trip cost me a little under $500. Unheard of!!!!!! But tip - I called and made the ressie on the phone - online was quoted a little higher.

Try Iberia.com too! good.gif

Thanks for the great tip....I just found an awesome ticket with Iberia as well for about 695 will Orbitz selling them for about 900.

*TIP: The only downside with Iberia is like other international carriers that serve food, your food is not free. The cheapest thing is like a sandwich meal for about 4-6 Euros, not including the drink and sometimes the flight can get a little hot. Flew with them last summer.

I was wondering if MENA can have a serious discussion concerning, Proof of Ongoing Relationship? Those of you who have already been through your interviews, can help those of us that are still yet to have theirs. This seems to be the number one reason for denial of a visa and I really want to make sure I have all bases covered.

Is there something you would've done differently?
Exactly what did you include for your proof?
Did you not have enough of one type of proof?
Do you feel web cam pics of you and your SO is a waste of time?
Are web cam pics of you, your SO, and family members important?
What seems to be the strongest Proof of an Ongoing Relationship?
What seems to be the least important proof?
What questions was your SO asked during the interview?

Especially in Egypt, I am very interested as this is where we're going through. Please if there is anything you have to share about your experiences good or bad, please do? This is for all MENA members, please tell us your experiences so those of us not yet there can learn from them.

Thank you so much for posting this because this really helps those of us who have not had our interviews yet. I have accumliated so much evidence I don't know what to do with it. Thank you all for posting your experiences because it really helps me to determine what is relevant and not.

Thanks everyone. Enough info to really confuse me. I think I'd better follow the yellow brick road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know all of this can be confusing. Besides what the consular put on their website regarding marriage requirements it also said what is also exclusive to whatever city you are getting married in is necessary. In our city it was different and required more things.

And for the comment about family finding out, even though I was a virgin, my husband just didn't want anyone touching me. We were given one for the both of us, not just me. In addition, in his town, a lot of the younger crowd that are getting married are more liberal and do not put such an emphasis on girls being married as virgins. Just depends on the couple. It all depends on who you can trust. You'd be surprised what they do. One of my relatives used chicken's blood as proof after the wedding. LOL

Ihavequestions - You are so right. I had to explain that to many people because they got the wrong impression. Just because I am American and have a bf doesn't mean I was out there having sex. We see many couples and have many friends that are just bf and gf for the time being. That does not mean they are having sex. A lot of the younger crowds are just not ready to settle, at least in ours.

He is going to need a lot of support and only his family will know how to give it to him. You know doctors say one thing, but with the grace and will of God and time. You never know how things might improve, but just know you will get through this. Your son will come out of this stronger than you think. I will keep him and your family in my prayers and I hope things get better.
