PhilippinesCan A Filipina Really Be Taught How to Drive? A Car?

It was pretty easy.

I took my wife to the Macy's parking lot Sunday mornings at 8:00 as they opened at noon. She had this huge parking lot all to herself so she got to practise turning, stopping and starting, and keeping in lanes. They second morning (same parking lot) I got out of the car, put her phone on speaker and let her drive in the parking lot, while I was able to offer assistance if she needed it. This gave her a big confidence boost. I taped her during her second lesson and she got so excited, she said, welcome to the philippines!.

We did this for parking as well. She must have tried to park 50 times.

After this, we found an abandoned back road and spent weeks driving up and down it.

When she went to take her exam, we went the previous Sunday so she could learn the area and surroundings. She passed big time.

Although she has a 2003 Chevy Impala, she has been driving my Fusion Hybrid for a few weeks now and learning about stretching her mileage.

She is great!!!!

Philippinescalling it quits
We set up an account under yahoo and made them a mobile account. We put their SMART phone number in the mobile number. All texts sent with Yahoo are considered in the US and no charge.

Her family will be replying back to the yahoo message using her local (SMART) cell phone number there. The rate should be no charge for them to receive your text, but there is a 2.5 peso charge for them to text back to the YAHOO account that they receive from.

If your own yahoo account is set up the same way then you can put your yahoo in mobile and text directly from your phone. If you have an unlimited text plan (You should), she can send all the texts she wants and receive them for free.

No more international texts.

Hi Ozlites, I'm following your progress, great that you have your biometrics appointment on the 10th.(we applied and got noa on the same dates) I wonder if I'll get a similar letter now too. I'm wondering if everybody has to do biometrics again before their 10 yr greencard is issued. Thanks for the heads up anyway I'll be stalking the mail carrier daily waiting for that letter. Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionRFE Receipts

For those of you who got RFE'd and sent back the info they requested, did you get any kind of receipt or NOA from them or did you just sit back and wait for either your greencard or letter to make an appointment or whatever? I sent them the RFE'd info they requested about a month ago and have had no letter or email from them. As a matter of fact I have had no emails from Case Status at all since my application to remove conditions, I got the Receipt and NOA in the mail and did my biometrics and then got the RFE but nothing on my case status has changed since they recieved the application. I didn't even get an email telling me I'd been RFE'd. Any helpful info would be appreciated. Thanks, Lindy

I think they don’t send you any kind of receipt. In our case we received a letter less then in two weeks after we sent RFE to TSC saying that our case was moved to the local office.

So did you hear anything from them since? Does that mean you'll likely have an interview? Cheers Lindy

Congratulations! My situation is similar to yours. I am filing through the TSC, got RFE'd, sent my packgage back (registered mail and return receipt!), but I have not heard anything from TSC since. Mind you, it was only received at TSC two weeks ago. It would appear that they are taking about 8 weeks to process RFE's?

Anyway, congrats!

Thanks Doyle, looks like you'll know more in about 6 weeks then, cheers Lindy

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionRFE Receipts

I am aware of one case in which the online status check of an AOS RFE is noted in the current status. It says the RFE information requested has been received. Perhaps CIS is not consistent (duh!) and this only applies to RFE's for AOS...but they are not likely that inconsistent! If the information has been received, your case status has changed and they should note that! But what they 'should' do is like saying 'if'. There's a broad, gray area there!

Exactly, and it never pays to try to second guess them,or try to cut any corners. Which is why I'm in this worrisome position in the first place because instead of going to the post office and getting a confirmation receipt which is what I have done every other time I've made any applications, I wanted to get it straight in the mail slot for the carrier to pick up right away and figured surely it would make it there, it has every other time. When will I learn? Still kicking myself!!!! Cheers Lindy

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionRFE Receipts

I sent them the RFE'd info they requested about a month ago and have had no letter or email from them.

Did you sent it with delivery confirmation? Then you would have proof from the post office that you have sent something to the USCIS, after they RFE'd you. When I applied for my first Green Card, I sent RFE'd evidence by normal mail, and it got lost. My application was subsequently denied, and my attorney had to write a motion to reopen the case. At least, the RFE'd evidence had a time stamp to support my story, and my case was reopened, but I had to pay the fee and to wait longer, because it was not obviously their fault. If you haven't any proof that you have sent the evidence, I recommned that you send it again, this time with some kind of confirmation that it has reached the USCIS.

This time I didn't send it with delivery confirmation and I kick myself for not doing it. Sent it priority mail instead. Geez, regretfully I may learn a very hard lesson here. Cheers Lindy

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAm I just paranoid?

I just received my card in a mail....If you’re in customer service you should be ready that even you don’t like something about the customer or you having a bad hair day you can’t show it off. Can you imagine going to your bank with some questions about something you don’t understand and your banker raising the voice just because you don’t get his explanations the first time? I bet you will never come back to that bank. The difference with USCIS Customer Service is that we don’t have any other place to call with our questions. Even if the customer asking stupid questions your job as a customer service representative is to give the customer the correct answers and educate the person without showing any expression of anger....Why sometimes the USCIS Customer Service is what any American would find unacceptable?
Everybody has his own opinion and I respect it. But just think of what I wrote above. Would you come back to that Bank or Grocery store?

Congratulations! I agree with your discussion regarding customer service. I would not return the a store if treated badly by a rep. But, as you say, immigrants have no choice as to where they 'shop'.
Welcome to the U.S. as a PR!

Congratulations finish4start, glad to see your long wait is over at last.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 Part 1 - option 1 or 2?

Hello everyone,

Quick background: My wife entered the US on August 2008 with a K1 Visa on my petition - We got married the same month - She became a Permanent Resident on March 2009 - Now she wants to apply for the Citizenship and we just want to make sure she picks the right option on Part 1 of the form.

She's been a permanent resident for 5 years and 1 month.

She's been married to me (US Citizen) for 5 years and 8 months.

Which is the best option to choose between the two on Part 1 of the form for her situation based on the information I provided?

Part 1. Information About Your Eligibility

1. __ Have been a Permanent Resident of the United States for at least 5 years.

2. __ Have been a Permanent Resident of the United States for at least 3 years. In addition, you have been married to and living with the same U.S. citizen spouse for at least 3 years, and your spouse has been a U.S. citizen for the last 3 years at the time of filing your Form N-400.

We're not sure how to pick the best answer because both seems to describe her eligibility. She's been a green card holder for over 5 years AND she also became a green card holder based on marriage to me 5 years ago? Does option 2 only applies to early filers(3 years)?

Thank you guys for your help!

Dude, i don't know where you get your information from. LOL.
document verification is a random thing? wow..DELBROS is a logistics company, just like UPS, FEDEX or DHL. the fee is for these local government agencies.
the instructions said:

"As a standard measure to validate the relationship upon which the K1 visa petition is based, the Embassy conducts independent verification of civil records directly with Philippine government agencies before a visa can be issued. These local agencies charge a fee or fees for the records search, retrieval services and for making copies of public records." you'll find more info here: http://manila.usemba...ov/wwwfk1en.pdf
Just please understand that some people has chosen to do the same process that Lot did because they want to make sure the documents are ready before the interview. she did not create it, a lot of applicants(VJers) already knew about this whole thing.
dude i think it's time to apologize to lot.

he said the applicants DON'T HAVE TO PAY THE DOCUMENT VERIFICATION FEE, ok..where in the USEM website did he get this info? the funny part was, HE PAID the document verification fee. I wanted to dare him not to pay the fee just to see if he gets his visa at all, but it was too late.
He replied to my comment with the same intention, to piss me off. but it didn't work..i ignored him.
There's no reason to delete any of your topic, unless it's offensive, just worry about the people who thought your post was great and helpful. and I'm one of them.

You were a little annoyed at the "process". I just tried to point out that you dont have to be annoyed by the "process". You actually dont have to do the "process" at all. That process is an NOT Embassy process but rather a Loterly process. A step-by-step procedure on what "she" did.

Like you said, My wife even paid Delbros recently for her doc verification. But we did NOT follow Lot's steps. We just followed the instruction at the US Embassy website and be done with it. We moved on to better things like gathering her school transcripts she would need in the US, packing her things, or her spending time with her loved ones. I was just trying to point out that most people at this stage of the process have very little time left in the Philippines. I would rather have my wife do better things than bug Robbie. I was just trying to point out that you dont have to be stressed out by this already stressed out process. I was not trying to piss you off.

Again folks, the document verification process is a random thing. Some will get have to have their documents verified at the request of the consul. Some will get a free pass. Nobody knows why and this will happen during the interview.

For those that got picked for document verification, they will need to pay Delbros. The US embassy "recommends" that you pay Delbros in advance "just in case" you get picked for a doc verification.

Who wins in this process? DELBROS! Get mad at them. Not me ok? Delbros is the one getting paid no matter what.

PhilippinesManila Embassy K1 Visa Guide (Your comments)
Hey Sheriff Thanks,
It turns out they still do notify the beneficiary. My fiancee received a letter (no more packets) from the embassy yesterday telling her that she's ready to schedule an interview and some instructions on how to download print out the packet and forms. So she called and got the may 21 interview good.gif
Also the embassy said that the beneficiaries do not have to wait for the letter to arrive, as long as the application is accepted by the embassy from NVC you can go ahead and schedule your interview appointment.
So no more packets in the mail only a single page letter...packets and forms can be obtained from their website.
Thanks again!

(Q) - Do you know if the US embassy in Manila sends out a letter or a notice to the fiancé(e) to inform her/him that they received the application and it's ok to schedule a visa interview?

(A) - I'm not sure about the current practice/policy on notifying the beneficiary that the hard copy package of the case file had been received from the NVC and that they may proceed with scheduling their visa interview/medical exam. Prior to the March 2008 update, it was the USE's practice to send notification to the beneficiary. I recommend a continued follow-up with the USE to ensure the hard copy package file had been received by the USE so that you can move forward with scheduling the visa interview/medical exam. If you discover any news on what the USE is doing, please let me know.

PhilippinesManila Embassy K1 Visa Guide (Your comments)
Hi sheriff, thanks for this useful guide
Do you know if the US embassy in Manila sends out a letter or a notice to the fiance(e) to inform her/him that they received the application and it's ok to schedule a visa interview? Some applicants here are posting that the embassy doesn't send any packets to the beneficiary anymore? I wanna know if this is true.
I know the embassy in manila has this new appointment system that you can call or go online to schedule an appointment for a visa interview but I'm not sure if they still notify the beneficiary in the philippines OR he/she needs to call the embassy to confirm if they have the application already. I was just confused and amazed that on their website they have all the forms ad packets needed.

PhilippinesList of 2008 Interviewee
whistling.gif haaayyy...i hate waiting. so my fiancee called delbros, she talked to robbie and he said docs were forwarded to NSO on May 12, my fiancee paid the doc verification fee on May 6. I also called the embassy today and they told me they are waiting for document verification report from delbros. once the embassy have this "report" they can release the visa for delivery.
so i guess NSO not DELBROS is where the hold-up is. We are all waiting for NSO to finish verifying our documents. you can request for Delbros to forward your documents to NSO as early as you want but it would not matter because once it reached NSO..time stops. i remember requesting for a birth certificate and cenomar from NSO could take up to 2 months before they can release one. delbros said waiting period is 1-4 weeks from the date your docs are forwarded to NSO.

Paid Doc Verification Fee: May 6, 2008
Forwarded to NSO: May 12, 2008
Interview Date: May 21, 2008 (APPROVED)
Visa Delivered?: NO! WAITING......................... mad.gif
