Does anyone know of a managerial/ administrative coordinator position within their company that need immediate filling?????

In which industry are you inquiring about?

I know, what you mean.Even with that the cost of living here is so high that it seems we are always on the verge of being broke. Its a crying shame.

Any industry would be fine and any location within the US would be fine too.

The educational background is a BS is Health science and A MS in urban affairs..... hopefully that helps

Is it just me or has VJ been acting funky lately? This is the second day in a row where I typed in visajourney.com and got some mess about an IPS Driver Error and it has been slow, too.

that's a database error that vj gives when it has issues.

I thought my employer had finally figured out that I was visiting this site too much and they blocked it. They have a meter where they check certain website if they are overused. If the website is not used for education they block it. However, if you can justify the need to access that site, they usually take off the block. I was happy when I didn't get the error message this time.

Funny you mentioned that. I was wondering the same thing, too, which was why I made a post about it. The company I work for actually makes/sells software that allows employers to spy on their employees internet usage. I, too, thought that they finally caught on. Whew!

Now that must be an interesting job to have!

Guess the remix has a hi-life beat goin' on behind the track. Got me groovin' over here now. I like hi-life because I'm west indian and it sounds just like a calypso-soca beat.

I was reading the Forbes listing of the most miserable cities in the US. It was kind of sad. LA, NYC, Detroit, Flint, even Chicago.....those are kind of expected. But Philly was on the list. Charlotte, NC was on the list. Providence, Rhode Island. I better stay put in Upstate NY. May run in to the occassional misdirected hillbilly, but it's not a "miserable city". The basis was long commute, high taxes, high unemployment rates and high levels of violent crimes.

Talking about miserable cities, I have lived or stayed in all of those cities at one time or another. Dang. Flint was the most depressed town, but they had the warmest people I have ever met.

Speaking of books; do we want to keep the conversation about "Loving the African Male" in this thread or do we want a completely new thread for it?

Definitely a separate thread. This one is a written to allow for free comments. Definitely don't want free comments. I hope people don't give us a hard time about the book club again. I wish we could give it a secret password for book club members only.

I still haven't gotten my book, but they have already taken my money!

I am waiting for mine still. I would just cut and paste what you wrote above as the guidelines for the discussions. The one thing I would add is if anyone is "flaming" another person, that person can be ignored or reported to a moderator if he/she repeatedly violates the terms.

You should get it soon. I think you ordered a little after me and I got mine yesterday.

So I guess a new thread then.

For whoever starts the thread I think there should be a disclaimer in the beginning saying that we would appreciate comments from readers and non-readers alike but we want to keep the thread on topic to the subjects discussed in the book. We are just using the book as a way to bring up topice we feel relevant to the discussion and may agree or disagree with what others say but we want to keep it a warm, repectful and friendly environment for everyone.

I flipped through my book last night and I already have some comments about what we will be discussing.

Who else is waiting for the book?

Lol. I was afraid to drive through there and Wyoming. My girlfriends have family out there and invited me along. They forgot to mention that there weren't any darkies in the town and I don't use out houses in the winter time nor do I dress well enough for their winters. I was treated nicely, just stared at a lot by older people because. I didn't fit into the nice African American box because I have a slight (cough cough) accent to top it off. I don't like potatoes, dry corn, greasy gravy nor big slabs of beef either so it was interesting. I forgot to add the beer. Don't drink that either. So I was not invited back. LOL

Boaz,
When I went to the Bamenda region I was struck by how many people had nice teeth. There was one tribe, Banso, where it seemed like they all had straight healthy looking teeth. I asked about it and the people I was with thought it was strange for me to say that. A few of the people had never seen braces in their lives!

Had I met my husband here in America, I would not have looked at him all. He's tall and lanky, but it would have been where and with whom he hung out that would have turned me off. In Africa most of the people I saw him with were family folks who didn't drink or smoke. Once here, all that went out the window. Here, the drinking, smoking and not wanting to go to Church is a huge nail in my chest.

One part of the above story that catches my attention, is that the older children couldn't remember their names. Did they use the money to high? I can sadly say that on one of my trips to Cameroon, a friend stayed at the house with my children. She was supposed to send my son and daughter to Arizona after a week. Mind you, this woman was 33 years . She spent the money I left, toured with her girlfriend who came later, and told the kids I didn't leave money for them. My kids were 16 and 19 so they knew better than to believe what she was saying, but they still questioned whether I would have left them without money for so long. The kids called me and when they realized that she wasn't going to share the money I left or do anything I asked, they were preparing to press charges on her. The only thing that stopped them was they rewere afraid of what would happen to me. So
they were going to Arizona to be with their father and since they never left adjustments were made. Sadder than that, each time my cell phone was called I was billed whether I answered it or not. That baby sitting job cost me a chunk of money, and I haven't said one word to my friend since then. My attitude was that she had fun with the money, did what she wanted and thought it would be ok with me.
Sorry for the ranting, but I will never forget the stress she inflicting on all of us.
