K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUpdated Timeline but changes don't show in boxes

I have updated my timeline a few times, and the changes show in the text area, but do not show on the boxes showing the progress. Can someone tell me what step I am missing?
Thank you.

If you look at the boxes at the top, the ones you're missing are 'NVC Receive' and 'Consulate Rec'. Once you fill in those on your timeline, then the boxes will get colored. And then when you get your interview date, update your timeline and the 'Interview' box will get filled in.

You have to remember to fill in the CORRECT ones, then the box areas at the top will be filled out.

You write your timeline under the signatory box.

OP is talking about the timeline, not the signature.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApproval to NVC time frame?

Hey guys,

I got a question and need some advice. I finally got an approval after waiting 298 days at the VSC. It has been over two weeks now, and the NVC has not recieved anything from USCIS. When I was approved the first time, the application was there in 3 days. I call the NVC daily, and they keep telling me to wait and call back in a few days. This seems to be going in circles. My question is waiting over two weeks normal now? Is is safe to assume it was not sent or lost? Should I go ahead and do another congressional inquiry into this? Any thoughts on it?

Unfortunately, since the early summer, NVC has been going through a backlog. For IR-1/CR-1 cases, it's been taking a month from NOA2 date to getting a case number assigned, where before, it used to only take a week. It's obviously affecting K1 applicants as well. All you can really do is to continue calling every day. Hopefully you hear something very soon!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTracking the package from NVC to Consulate?
Found a package heading to Bosnia and Herzegovina with reference number EXP 29 SEP 2011A and tracking number 9211797431. :)

Whether or not your case is in that package is not 100%, but there's a good chance!

I know there was a topic on how to track the package once it leaves the NVC via DHL but i can not seem to find it. Anyone have it saved and recently used?

BTW, my package was shipped out yesterday, it stayed only 2 days at NVC :)

Here's the thread: http://www.visajourn...nvc-to-embassy/ But read more than just the first post, as the format for the reference number has changed.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCanadian Police Report

Well I have a perminant resident card for Canada so that should make it easier. Ill just have to have a talk with my fiance and see what his opinion is. Hopefully everything will work out!! thanks again :)

Yes, but you're no longer living in Canada, right? So technically you wouldn't be a resident, whether you have a card or not. Just want to make sure you look into these things if you do go to Canada, just so you don't waste a trip for nothing!

And no problem. Good luck with whatever you choose!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCanadian Police Report

ohhh yes I see that now...DAMN!! lol looks like a trip 2 Canada might have to be put into my plan. Thanks alot for ur help :)

It's probably be a LOT quicker if you got them in Canada, as no fingerprints are needed (I think). My PCC from Canada took only a week, which is a lot less time than 12 weeks!

But be warned:

Ensure you're able to get a police check done when you're no longer a resident of Canada (can't find any info about this on RCMP or NVC's site for Canadian documents).

Also make sure you won't need fingerprints while no longer being a resident of Canada. I know that for Canadians, a fingerprint check is not needed unless you've had a criminal past. But because you're no longer a resident of Canada, they might require fingerprints as well.

Just check these two things before heading to Canada.

Also think about if the money spent on a trip to Canada is worth it. It would save a lot of time (if the two thoughts above are in your favor), but you'd be spending a lot of money on a flight, hotels, food, the possible PCC fee (I had to pay $40). Not trying to discourage you, but just want to make sure you're taking everything into consideration.

Since you're outside of Canada, there is NO way to get the fingerprints electronically. From the RCMP link I gave:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCanadian Police Report

Hey everyone!! Need some help...I need to get a Canadian Police Report for the process as I lived there for over 6 months. Does anyone have any idea how I can get it NOT having to go to Canada and how long it takes??? I am reading that they need finger prints and it can take months and months but I dont have that long!! HELP!

Here's a link to NVC's page for Canadian documents: http://travel.state....l?cid=9013#docs Scroll down like half-way until you get to police records. There's a sub-section if you're OUTSIDE of Canada.

And here's a link to RCMP: http://www.rcmp-grc....g-empr2-eng.htm

If you click a link in the box to the right that says 'Processing Times' (http://www.rcmp-grc....e-temps-eng.htm), it says a paper submission can take up to 12 weeks.

Unfortunately, you're probably going to be waiting a few months. All I can say is that you should have done this a few months ago so you didn't have to hold up the process now.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhat are reasons to be denied at airport, border entry?
Back in August of last year, I was denied TWICE to the US. So trust me when I say, you'll be fine. Even though I had written about it on one of the forms asking about past refusals, I was not asked a single question about it at the interview nor at POE. It's like it never happened!

But remember, even though you'll have a visa, you can still be denied at the border. The border patrol have the ultimate say on whether letting you in or not. I've seen this only happen ONCE though for a Canadian. His name here I believe is codybanks. He had to re-apply for another visa and I believe the second time around, he got into the US. But he was denied about a previous police charge or something. You shouldn't worry about your one little denial though, it'll be fine. I highly doubt the border patrol will not let you in because of that.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-230 VISITS QUESTION

Using Saylin's recommendations as a basis, my husband listed out all the crossings documented in his most recent passport.

It went onto a supplement sheet and then he wrote at the bottom: "As a Canadian, I've had multiple visits to the USA of varying lengths of time since I was a young child and of which I don't recall the specific dates and don't have evidence/information for all those crossings. Each time I have gone to visit the USA though, I have always been inspected by a United States Customs and Border Protection officer upon entry."

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDenied at POE with valid visa?

hi everyone!

im a little worried, what would be a reason for Border control to deny someone to go into the USA even with a valid visa?

NOTE:Ive never been to the USA and my first attempt going to the USA was last year to visit my boyfriend. I had too much luggage uknowingly and did not have a return ticket because me and my bf didnt know our scheduals (but i did intend to come back to canada within the 6months) and from that i was pulled into secondry security for awhile and refused that day into the USA.I had to fill out a bunch of papers aswell. The officer told me if I brought enough ties and such next time ide be perfectly able to go to the USA though, but yet i still have never attempted to go after that.
(P.S im Canadian and was going through the YVR airport in Vancouver)

after that me and my boyfriend applied for a k-1 visa. my interview is coming up very soon and if we do get approved with a visa, im scared being denied by an officer at POE because of my last attempt into the USA or for some other reason. Im dead scared of leaving my apartment and everything to go live in the USA with my visa and then being denied at POE and having nowhere to go or stay because I dont know anyone or have any family where I am, so the thought of being denied at entry terrifies me.

how likely are you to be denied by and border officer even with a valid visa such as k-1? anything I should do or any tips?

Don't worry about the previous denial. I was denied TWICE last August at the border (Montreal airport and the Montreal land border). It never even came up at the interview. And POE was a breeze. Just handed over the sealed envelope, signed a few things, gave my fingerprints, and I was out of there.

There was a Canadian with a criminal record who was refused entry when they had a visa. Cant remember the name but they had posted about it on VJ, they ended up marrying instead and filing for a CR-1 with a successful entry that time.

Wasn't it codybanks? Or something similar.

Darnell, you made me LOL!!!! seriously!

Saylin.. what was the reason.. did they say?
This is why I asked if there could be a problem..unless one had a criminal record or something, which I do not have.

It was something about a past criminal record. The consulate knew about it, but the officer didn't care, so they denied him. So, he married his fiance, applied for a CR-1 visa, got it, and as far as I know, passed through the border.

See, there's this purty K-1 visa stamp in yer passport. It's a lovely thing. Makes the CBP goon all twitchy, as they HAVE to let you in.

Seriously.

They don't HAVE to let you in with a visa. A visa doesn't guarantee entry. There was a Canadian a few months ago that had a K1 visa and got denied at the border.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPOE problems

I have a question for some of you that may have had a similar situation. I have read that being denied entry to visit US because of not enough ties does
not effect the granted K-1 Visa. Since I was accepted and am waiting for my passport and I-94 so I can go down to US, will there be additional problems at border
since you were "flagged" ?
The last time I tried to visit my fiance (boyfriend at the time) the officer was downright nasty. She said she could ban me, never let me return, and so on. Dont know
what her deal was but even the other officers around her were scared of her, lol.
I would assume that through the NVC, they would have checked anything that may have been put in the system by a border guard, and would have been brought up
during the interview. I did tell them I was denied on one of the forms, and my interviewer asked why, and said "not enough ties" and she just nodded her head.
Anyone have any idea on this?

The same thing happened to me, except I got denied TWICE at the border. The second time, I too got a really nasty officer saying if I tried at another border with "another story" (???) that I could get banned for life. So, I didn't try anymore after that.

Wasn't asked about my two denials at my interview. And when I got to POE, nothing was asked or mentioned about it.

You'll be fine :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures1-864 Help: My Beneficiary didn't receive an income tax return last year

Hello all you friendly, helpful folks,

Please excuse me if this question has been asked and responded to several times -- I took a search through the forums and couldn't seem to find anything.

My fiance, the beneficiary, did not receive a tax return last year as he filed that his income was so low that no tax was deducted from him. So instead of receiving a income tax return, he just received a notification of the above.

(We, of course, are going to have a co-sponsor.)

Does my beneficiary need to re-file and get a tax return?

Thanks so much...

I'm not sure if it's different for K-1 visas, but for IR-1/CR-1 visas, never is it asked of the beneficiary's tax returns. The US doesn't care if the beneficiary is working, or whether they filed tax returns. The only importance is on the petitioner.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHandwritten and/or typewritten?

I'm wondering if it's ok to fill in the forms both handwritten and typewritten? I've noticed that there is not enough room in the forms for my family name, to be written down on my computer. I'll have to write it down by hand.

Is it better to fill in the whole form by hand then? Or is it ok to fill it in on my computer as well, typewritten? What's the best you think?

I'd suggest typing everything you can on the computer so it's legible, and only handwrite what you need to. It's okay to mix it. I had to do this with one of the forms I handed in. Many others do this as well. It's fine. Just make sure you print very clearly.

Yes, yes, thank you it all worked just as you said. I know this is a very simple matter but anyone going through this process knows we have to be extra careful. I heard bad stories of people that couldnt print out their ds-260. Glad everything worked out, thank you all.

Well, I dunno about Mexico, but for Montreal, we never needed to show print-outs or confirmation of the DS-260, so it doesn't really affect us at all if we do or don't print it out.

Thanks, the issue is that i dont have printer at home i do all my printing at kinkos copy cemter. So i thought i could just fill out DS-260 and take a pdf to kinkos and print the barcode page. But I guess what im hearing is that the form doesnt generate a pdf, the user has to have the right print drivers installed to convert html to pdf.

Thanks for all your help and giving the heads up on this. ;D

You don't need a printer at home or print drivers. All you need is Adobe Reader/Acrobat installed. Then you can just click the "print" button and instead of selecting a printer from the list, you select "print to PDF". This isn't hard to do...

Hmm, that's weird, it should have worked.

In the end though, I of course printed out the review pages, but it's good to have an electronic copy as well, just in case. Made me feel better. Plus, when people ask questions about it, I can quickly get to it on my computer, instead of getting up, going to my bedroom closet, pulling out my immigration folder, and checking the print-outs Posted Image

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 PRINT OUT

The DS-260 for electronic processing is online, and does not generate a .pdf file like an I-864 or the DS-230 will. Once the answers are filled in, it is electronically signed and submit button clicked, there's no going back. You can look at a summary page, and there is a button to print the summary page but it will not generate a .pdf file.

A confirmation can be emailed to the designated email address used to opt-in to electronic processing and the confirmation page will be a downloadable .pdf file with a barcode. It is not that actual DS-260 form.

Actually, if you click the print button and then "print to pdf" then you'll get a PDF of the review pages. This is what I did, and still have all the review pages Posted Image

The IV fee bill is something for IR-1/CR-1 visa applicants that they pay while at NVC. As a K-1 visa applicant, you skip NVC and send your forms and payments directly to the consulate/embassy.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-230

My fiancee's interview is coming up on May 16. The problem we're having is deciding whether or not to wait for a DS-230 that is not expired or not. The current copy available on the US Embassy website expired on 4/30/2012. http://moscow.usemba...iv-fiancee.html

For the past few months, they haven't been updating that form until about the middle of the month.

The question is, if we go ahead and fill out and print the one that expired on 4/30/2012 will the embassy accept it or not?

Has anyone encountered this?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-230 Question #32 Jobs in past out of business

At the time I did not have facebook and I do not have old paystubs to look at. I have contacted the Franchisee and the Corporation but cannot seem to get a definite answer from them. On the G-325A I only had to do 5 years back as opposed to the DS230 which is 10 years. Can I put the year alone for the one and then the month and years for the other?

God Bless
Chris

Ah, didn't know it was that far back for you for what's holding you up. Didn't notice it was a longer timeframe on the DS-230/DS-260 than the G-325A. For me, all my employment was within the last 2-3 years at the time of filing, so it was the same information for me.

If you were filling out the DS-230, I would have suggested just including an additional sheet with just the year for one with an explanation that you don't remember the month. But alas, you're filling out the DS-260 and typically with online forms, if you don't fill something in, you'll get an error saying something was left blank. I'd just go with a best guess at that point for the month. I doubt NVC will investigate.

You can't look at old pay stubs to determine when you started? Or perhaps a diary or even Facebook (if applicable) talking about your first day at work?

What did you put on the G-352A that was included in the I-130 petition? There was an exact question about previous employers...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresprevious refusal at PoE

Hi everyone, back in February I tried to go visit Keri after I've quit my job to bring her my belongings since I would not need it (I was going to live at my mother's place while I wait for my visa). My father passed away several weeks before that happened and I came back to my home town to accompanied my mom. Bringing my stuff then would simplified things since I would be able to take the plane when everything is finish instead of doing the whole ride again. Let me add here that my stuff fits into a corolla without a trailer or anything. Back then, our petition was not yet filled. Once I arrived at the PoE the agent did not felt comfortable to let me pass as I had quite some stuff with me. I told them the story I just wrote here and they just let me go on my way back.

Would this pose any problem on our petition at any point?

Thanks guys :)

Nope, as long as you told/tell the truth, it won't be a problem. I was refused twice at the border in 2010, and it had no impact whatsoever on my petition! I wasn't even asked about it at my interview!

And does is matter if the filling of the form is in capitals or small? Thanks

For question 33, you start with high school and go up through any universities/colleges. No need to show proof of degrees/diplomas though.

And no, it won't matter if it's all capital letters or not. I didn't use all capital letters and I had no RFEs/checklists.

Here is an extensive list of possible questions: http://www.visajourn...rview_Questions Go through each and every one. If you can answer them all correctly, you should be good to go ;)

How many questions they ask varies by consulate/embassy. Some like Montreal only ask a few questions while those in MENA countries can last hours.
