yeah, we went to the local SS office but they told her to not fill out the application for a social security card if that box was checked because then she could be issued two different SS numbers and that could cause quite a problem...made sense to me so we held off on it and waited a lil longer

Yeah, if you don't get it by 3 weeks after POE, then that's when you're supposed to go to the SSN office. I'll wait till the first week of June until I go to the SSN office, if I don't get it by mail before then.

also, a bit of good news for you Saylin...my wife just received her social security card two days ago..it only took a little over two weeks from POE! It seems to be very fast. We checked the box on the ds-230 to automatically receive the SS card :)

Oh, grats! That was fast! Most people I see actually have to go to their local SSN office and apply, whether checking the box off or not on the DS-230. Hope I get it just as fast! If not, thankfully, there's a local office in my husband's itty bitty town.

I will add to the good news! My husband got his visa approved today! He has to go back on Monday to pick up his passport and envelope! I haven't had the chance to have a lengthy convo with him about the interview but he did mention that they grilled him about our relationship. I'm gonna ask him for details later and post again!
Anyway, it's a good day!

Hello everyone,

I am getting everthing ready for the interview ....... and i have a question about the interview...when i was in college I met a venezuelan guy, he was in the states on a student visa and we also worked together... we got married, I petition him and we were married for 3 years... at the begining everything was great, but after 6 months, he got a job as a news reporter and I think it got to his head and turned into another man... well, it does not matter anymore, we got divorce and here I am 7 years later.... I was divorce in 2004 and we married in 2001. and it was a real marriage.... does anyone know if this will be an issued at the interview and should i take anything from my previous marriage (other than my divorce cetificate).... any thoughts??

I dont know if I will be asked about this/him, but I am assumming it will because it is on the application.... however I just want to make sure i take everyhting and I want to be very prepare for the interview... it never hurts!

thoughts

I think you should fine. If you both entered the marriage genuinely, then you're okay. Some marriages just don't work. The officers should understand that. Just make sure you bring the divorce certificate and any other documents you have relating to the divorce. I'm not sure how bad the consulate/embassy in Columbia is with these sorts of things. Perhaps you can try calling/emailing them, explain your situation, and ask if you need to bring any documents or anything to the interview. I think you should be fine though :)

Saylin Congratulations

Great very helpful report

One question, why do u have to fill DS-230 again, is it due to electronic filing?

Didn't have anything to do with electronic filing. Had to do with the online form DS-260. Montreal isn't used to the new system yet, so they require everyone to fill out the DS-230.

Congratulations Saylin

I opened up my email a few minutes ago to have two RFE emails asking for everything we already sent in!!!!! I'm so confused right now and don't understand how these things could be missing. My files were in PDF format and I double checked over and over. The only thing I can see on the RFE checklist as valid is a statement about me no longer having a J-1 visa other then that they are basically asking me to send in all supporting documents I sent in. Grrrrr not a way to start this hump day. I'm extremely annoyed and will be calling for some answers as soon as they open.

CONGRATS SAYLIN!!!!!!!! Woot Woot!!!!!

Wow, that's dumb. Definitely call and inquire about that. *shakes head at NVC*

You don't need to be there for POE; there is no other interview. Sometimes the beneficiary just has to answer a few questions when giving over the paperwork.

It's good to see so many CC's at NVC. Are people getting expedite's at NVC because of the transfer to TSC?

I know I'm at the tail end of the transfer NOA1 dates, so I haven't asked for one yet.

Looking at my spreadsheet, there have been 11 expedites from the TSC group. Some weren't only for the USCIS error, but had financial hardships and medical reasons as well. You can always try to expedite as well. It won't hurt to try. Good luck either way!

I have an interview question- I'm trying to picture my husband sitting (or standing at a window?) talking with the consular officer and he's going to have all the evidence of our relationship and I'm wondering what exactly the officer would say to him to see everything. Like, will the officer say, "Show me something with both your names on it," or, "Show me photos of the two of you together"?
There are only a few reviews on here on the embassy so I feel like we're going in blind! Lol :P
Any advice to calm my nerves? By nature I am a very nervous, anxious, extremely high-strung person so any comfort would be greatly appreciated!
:)

The only reviews I've read are those for Montreal, and officers at Montreal rarely ask for evidence, so I'm not sure exactly how an officer would ask for evidence. I'm not sure how high-fraud Paraguay is. If it's not, they might not ask for any evidence. But if they do, I would think it's something like how you said, probably ask for pictures and the like. As long as your husband has a bunch of evidence (and is somewhat organized), he should be fine :)

Saylin, why were you denied twice at poe?

First time was my own fault. I knew nothing about visas. I thought after coming back to Canada for 10 days from 3 months in the USA, I could just go back to the USA and apply for a green card. Posted Image I was so naive, I know Posted Image After waiting in secondary for like an hour, an immigration officer finally told me he couldn't let me go and told me what I had to do to legally move to the USA. He opened a file on me and assigned an A# to me and made me sign this paper saying I was withdrawing my application to enter the USA. The officer was nice, but he did tell me this process would only take about 4 months. Yeah, right Posted Image

Second time was this jerk's fault at the border. My husband sent off our I-130 within a few days after my first denial and I had found this site and read that it was legal to visit your spouse during the process. So, I decided to try again. But the guy at the border said I can no longer be considered a visitor but an intending immigrant instead since we filed an I-130. He even told me to file for a K3 visa, which I told him was dead, but he didn't believe me. He warned me that if I try going through another border with "another story" that it could hurt this process and possibly get a ban. So, I went home a second time crying. Thankfully, my husband decided last minute to come visit me that day, so I at least got to see my husband.

Just got the call. visa approved!!! :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing:

hey all! My wife and I are now back in San Diego...together for once! I will post a POE review about Orlando soon, but I will say this much...our experience was absolutely horrible. Basically the officer told me that he thought our marriage was bullshit because my wifes hand was shaking when she was asked to do fingerprints. He then went on to question me about the legitimacy of our relationship and told me he had his "doubts". He then explained how big the punishment was for a fake marriage, asked if I got paid, etc..it sucked soooo bad after all we have gone through. Nevertheless, at the end, he said he would take my word for it, and processed her entrance to the US and I guess that is all that matters.Of course there was no "welcome to the US" or anything for my wife, and the whole experience made her feel terrible and embarrassed as well. Complete and utter #######. Good luck to all of you and hope you dont have the same experience.

Wow Posted Image I'm so sorry you and your wife had to go through that. What a "welcome to the USA" she got. I don't understand how they can just assume it's fake if your wife starts to shake. When I got denied twice last August at POE, I was shaking all over the place. Some border officials need to learn how to be a little bit more polite.

Wow I'm sorry about the whole thing. Do they even have the right to question after the comsulate has given the visa and and approved it??? Its kind of like the big boss says ok but the cashier that works for the big boss gives you a piece of their mind. That is not acceptable!!! Its not like he even has the authority to question the visa that has been given by the State Department!! Wow I'm really furious!! Did you get his name? Maybe you can invite him to your house a few years from now and give him a piece of you mind!!!!! People get nervous all the time and seem as though there is something wrong. Reminds me about my last visit to Canada. I was so nervous at the airport so the customs agent thought there was something wrong and sent me to secondary and I was given the third degree there and than I had my luggage hand checked down to my personal stuff!! I had never been humiliated in my life as I was that day!! And those customs agents at the secondary make the people in line wait forever even though there is nobody infront of them. They want to make you wait and wait and wait to make you sweat!!! There were 4 FREE agents and 10 people in line!!! And they were chatting amongst each other and laughing!! I was so mad that after the agent was fisinhed with giving me the third degree and said that I can go, I turned back and raised my voice and asked why I was questioned. I asked was it because you think I will overstay? And the agent said we don't want anyone to take advantage of the system. I was soo mad that I was shaking. So in the beginning I was shaking cause I was nervous and at the end I was shaking cause I was soooo mad!

Actually, the border officials have the authority to question the visa you got. Ultimately, they have the authority to let you go through POE or not, even after getting a visa. I remember reading of a case here of a Canadian who got a visa, but when he got to the border to cross, the border officials didn't let him through because of a past criminal record, even though the Consulate had known about it. So, even though it doesn't seem right and acceptable after getting a visa to be hassled at the border, sadly, they do have the right to turn anyone away, whether you have gotten a visa or not. Having a visa in hand doesn't guarantee 100% that you'll get through the border. The border officials can still decide to turn you away. But it's like a 1% chance. I've only ever seen one case on here about someone being turned away after having got a visa.

Eventhough the interview date is set up by the NVC, it actually depends upon whether the consulate has a time slot open right? Or is there a quota set by the NVC to have only certain number of interviews in a day/month/week?

I'm wondering cuz I dont know how the operator can say they are not giving interviews for May anymore.

Each consulate/embassy sends NVC a schedule of sorts telling it which days are available and how many per day. NVC then goes through the list of cases that are complete and assigns an interview date. So, if May is all filled up, then it's definitely possible there are no slots left open and that NVC is no longer scheduling for May. It all depends on how busy the consulate/embassy is.

Well, I got SIF on Wednesday, and was hoping for the case complete email before the weekend. Perhaps it will come tonight. I just got off the phone with a operator, and she said the case is in final review. I asked an approximate time for case complete. She replied that they are not scheduling for May any longer, and could not be more specific than that. So, are they waiting for appointment times to be set aside by the embassy in Bangkok for June?

Thanks

Grats on your SIF! Posted Image

Just a heads up, you won't be getting a case complete email. Only those doing Electronic Processing get case complete emails. For those not doing EP, you find out case complete either through the AVR or an operator.

I don't know about appointment times in Bangkok. I'd suggest you go look at timelines for those going through Bangkok and look at where the interviews are at now. If your embassy isn't bad, there could still be slots for May interviews left.

For Canada, to re-schedule, you use a website and do it online. But, it'd be for a few months later, not a week or two, unless an opening appears and you grab it quickly.

@Saylin You can update the spreadsheet. DS-230 sent on 4-18-11 and check RFE also. Thanks

Tell that to the NVC misinfo hotline lol. The operator almost gave me a heart attack cause it would take me weeks to get one. He INSISTED that both he petitioner and the benefiacary would need to provide a birth certificate with the DS-230. My heart is pounding right now. Please people tell me that I don't need one.

You definitely don't need the petitioner's birth certificate. ONLY the beneficiary's is needed for the IV package. You can completely relax. I have no idea what that operator was talking about.

Weird, right? Is it because we've only been married one year, but together(with documentation) for 12?

That is weird, And no, it doesn't matter how long you've been together, but how long you've been married. It might have just been an error. I'd just advise you to make sure that after the interview and you get your passport/visa back, make sure it says CR-1 on it.
