IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOccupation Change?

hahaha..also i have kinda same question in mind. but i am not student. on I130 i filled occupation unemployed.
but now i am working so do i need to show them any proof anything else.

If you're the petitioner, just put the new work info on the I-864.
If you're the beneficiary, just put the new work info on the DS-230.

That's all you need to do :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOccupation Change?

So I noticed that on my initial I-130 form I filled in for occupation: Unemployed. Which is correct (I am still unemployed), but I am also a Full Time student. Would it be wise to fill out Unemployed/Full Time Studnet on the DS-230 form for my occupation?

Thanks!

Nope, under the employment section, just put 'unemployed'. Then under the school section, just put that you're in so-and-so school with the ending date as 'present'. From that the officer will know you're unemployed but in school.

Darn it! I have a MAC! Oh well, guess I'll head to the library to use a PC with Internet Explore and see what happens there!

Thanks so much for the info guys! I know I can always count on my VJ family for help! I keep you updated on what happens!

I figured you have a mac since you were using Safari :P

Before going to a library and using a public computer, you can try using Chrome. I used a browser based off Chrome to fill out the DS-261 and DS-260 (only available to eligible countries) and had no problems. But if Chrome doesn't work for you, then yeah, you'll have to find a PC with IE. And if you do use a public PC, make sure you clear the cache after you're done. Wouldn't want anyone getting your personal information.

Don't use Safari for paying bills. Use Internet Explorer. The payment portal was designed for IE and it'll be for the best if you use it too, or you'll get problems trying to pay bills.

Goooood morning my VJ fam and fellow leftovers... so I tried to sign in to the NVC payment portal and I got a sign-in failure.

I phoned the NVC and the operator I spoke with said my case is under "final review".

Any suggestions as to what steps I should take next? *ahem*Saylin*ahem*

Hehe, Saylin is here :)

The only thing you can keep doing is calling the AVR whenever possible to see if they update saying your case is complete. I'm guessing that because you got your SIF today, that your AVR will change tomorrow or the day after. And of course, keep calling the NVC operators once a day to ask if your case is complete.

You're almost there, you should have a case complete real soon. And then you're in queue for an interview date to be scheduled :)

Just wanted to let you know that my mom arrived safely today. POE - Newark - No problems. Flight landed at 12 pm and she was out with baggage claimed at 1pm. Thank you my friends. I saved 4000 dollars on lawyer fees by joining this forum. Special thanks to Saylin (spreadsheet guru) for being with us the whole time. Best of luck to everybody.

Glad your mom arrived safely and without problems!

And yay for VJ for saving you money! Of course, if you want to give me a small percent of the money you saved from not having a lawyer, I wouldn't say no! Posted Image Posted Image

Hi gang, so I just received an email from the NVC stating that they received my AOS and they're still waiting for my IV packet.

I had sent both the AOS and IV the same day in individual packets, so I'm guessing this is an automatic computer generated response... right?

Yup, don't worry about it. As soon as they receive a package, they tend to send out a false RFE saying a package is missing. One package will always get to a reviewing officer faster than another. Just ignore the email :)

Hello Everyone and good morning..... my husband is flying from Colombia to Fort Lauderdale on wednesday of next week..... however, i have a question/doubt... I have been reading that most people buy a roundtrip fare, because of the cost, however the way to go is to buy a one-way ticket because of the visa. bottomline, for us the one-way ticket was cheaper.... so, my question? has anyone had trouble with the airline on the way ticket? i just don't want him to get to the counter and be told he needs a roundtrip ticket, although the visa says "Immigrant Visa"... has anyone experience this? and if so, should we not worry? please help? thanks..

Mary

You can completely stop worrying! One way ticket is the way to go! The only reason, like you said, people buy round trip is because it's cheaper. The officers aren't concerned with tickets if they're a one way or round trip; they're concerned about the visa in your passport :)

sailin: congratulation for your green card. i am in florida to , i dont have to pay for my school, im in miami dade college and i have conditional residency . just to let you know if you want to study is easy .

Your POE was 6 days after mine, so perhaps you'll receive the green card next week.

I'm not in Florida anymore, but when I was, I wasn't a resident. I was considered an international student, so I would have had to pay out of my *** to pay for university.

I got a letter from USCIS today (welcome letter) and receipt notice. Cse type in both is OS155A. I thought She will receive greencard in the mail. What does this mean? Does everyone gets this OS155A?

congrats to all who has received the visa....

The OS155A is for the green card. You can take the receipt notice and check it on USCIS's website (like with the I-130). You'll receive the green card after they order production of it and then mail it out to you. This is my timeline so far for my green card:

May 12 - POE
May 22 - receive welcome letter and NOA for green card in the mail (dated May 17, 5 days after POE)
May 25 - USCIS updated to say they ordered production of my card
May 27 - USCIS updated to say they mailed out a notice to me saying they approved the OS155A

Should be getting the green card in the mail either this week or next I assume.

I hear ya...the school thing is a total pain in the #### and a LOT of money because you would be considered a non-resident, so you will have to pay more than a resident of course. It sucks, but that is the way it is unfortunately. You should get your SSN soon for sure! Best of luck with all!

Yeah, you don't need to tell me about school. I actually lived in Florida for two years with an L2 visa. I finished the last two years of high school there, that wasn't a problem. But if I wanted to go to a university as an international student (since I wasn't a resident or anything), it would have cost me about $20,000 per semester!! (And that's not including books or a dorm). 4 years of that and that'd be $160,000. I did not have that money, so I moved back to Canada. Only $150 per semester :D Much easier on the wallet.

The school I'll be going to here isn't that bad. For two years it'll cost about $10,000, including books. I don't have that money either, but it'll be easier to pay off than any $160,000 school I would have gone to in Florida.

Yes, you usually receive packet 4 shortly after the interview date is scheduled. If you haven't received yours yet, I would definitely call up NVC and ask about that as you need the interview letter to get into the consulate/embassy.

I wanted to make sure cause when you mail instead of e-mailing you can send both packages together. I wish I had sent both of them at the same time. If I resend them now its going to cause more confusion. I will wait till Friday to see what happens.

Yeah, I know you can send the two packages together by mail, but I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that for email, you should only send one package in each email. Just wait till Friday and if you don't hear anything, then just resend it. When I re-sent both packages, I made a note of when I had originally sent the package (date and time). It's not required, but just in case if it helps them in any way.

I re-sent them in 2 emails. You're not supposed to send them in the same email.
SaylinFemaleCanada2011-05-18 11:58:00

Well, we are doing electronic filing, so we sent our files by email and we received confirmation emails that they had been received and would be "reviewed and uploaded to our electronic case file". However, the confirmation emails were from "National Visa Center, Written Inquiry Unit, Serco Inc., Support Contractor." I don't know what happens to the emails once they get to the contractor, so who knows at which point our files got fumbled. Hopefully it will work out this time.

Anyway, this sure is tedious. It would be nice if they'd get right to our files this time and check them out, but I'm not holding my breath.

The same thing happened to me. I had originally sent my AOS package by email on Feb 4 and my IV package on Feb 8. On Feb 25, the operator said they still had not received my packages, so I was told to re-send them as well. I'm thinking it's because I sent them before my optin was accepted. Looking back, I should have re-sent my packages as soon as I got that optin acceptance; it would have saved a week. Anyways, within a week of re-sending the packages, NVC was reviewing them and a week later I had a CC. So hopefully your CC will be soon.

Just got back from embassy, my wife's visa is approved

We paid the AOS fee and the IV Application fee via NVC's online payment system. I'm wondering if they are going to ask for more money at the consulate on the day of the interview.

For IR-1/CR-1 cases, there's no other fees to be paid at the embassy/consulate. You might have to bring an envelope or money for courier service. Yeah, I just checked, and according to the interview guidelines for Frankfurt (found here: http://travel.state..../info_3742.html), you have to bring €4.25 in stamps (not cash). Other than that, there is no extra fee.

Hello all,

Sorry, been a bit busy lately. Wanted to drop in and say congrats to EVERYONE that has gotten approved, or has there loved ones with them right now. We're being a little slower then most of you, but then the baby is due August 8. And just to let ya all know, on the first Ultra-Sound to check to see if it's a boy or a girl, we've been told it's a Girl. So we're just moving along slowly, but surely. Just wanted everyone to know, we're still here, and checking in. We're right there with everyone of course.

Talk to you all very soon!
