What is a "visa specialist"?

A "visa specialist" is what they call operators at DOS.

For sure she will do it after April 30. My OPTIN is not accpeted yet. I called NVC today and they told me to re-send the OPTIN. The lady said it takes no more than 10 business days for the OPTIN to be accepted. So I sent the OPTIN again. I am still waiting for the second police certificate to arrive so by the time that comes I'm sure my OPTIN will be accpeted. After that I will send the AOS again.

It took 16 total days for my optin to be accepted, 11 business days, so it could take longer than 10 business days. I had re-sent my optin as well. I'm sure yours will be accepted soon.

just saw your blog...I just realized your real name is Lindsay, not Saylin hahaha...I actually thought Saylin was a pretty cool name for a woman!

Haha, yes my name really is Lindsay. I created the name 'Saylin' for an online video game and I just fell in love with it, so I've been using that name everywhere now. Who knows, maybe my real name will be Saylin one day :P

Thanks Saylin hehe wow does your arm really hurt that bad? I am scared now :( What shot did you get?

I am just curious about something. Has anyone gotten an SIF and then NOT received an e-mail the next day saying your case is complete. I am just wondering so I can get a time frame on this....NOT worried because our AVR has changed but just curious.

Grats on your case complete! Posted Image

Please do not listen to the operators when they say they only schedule interviews during the second week of each month. It's a LIE. If you want proof, look at my signature. I was scheduled during the FOURTH week. So you can expect an interview date to be assigned any day, not just the second week.

So which one are you going to? Let me know what happens with the flu shot. I hope you're right with the flu season being over.

I'm going to Medisys, that I know. Just got mixed up with the addresses. And I assure you, the flu shot isn't needed after March 31 for immigration purposes. Because Medisys just doesn't do medicals for US visas, the person your wife spoke to might have been thinking of some other reason the flu shot is needed. When I called Medisys and asked a few questions, specifically about what vaccines I would need, the operator told me he wasn't a health specialist and couldn't tell me. Perhaps the person your wife spoke with wasn't a health specialist either but actually went on to list vaccines when they weren't qualified to.

She called the one on Sherbrooke and the person there said its year round. Maybe that person either dosn't know the rules or my wife wasn't able to explain it correctly.

The one on Sherbrooke would be Dr Seidens. I'm not sure what happened there, but the flu shot is not required after March 31 as it's no longer flu season for immigration purposes.

I have my medical tomorrow (at Medisys) and after having it done, without the flu shot needed, you can tell your wife she can relax as it's not required.

There's a reason I waited to book my medical for after March 31. Didn't want to get a flu shot.
SaylinFemaleCanada2011-04-05 15:35:00

@ Saylin

I just found out that a flue shot is needed year round. I had read somewhere that the flu shots were needed only during the flu season. But my wife just called and they said it was all year round. She doesn't want to take a flu shot cause she gets adverse reaction from it. They told her if she gets it in writing from her Dr than they will not administer the shot.

The flu shot is only needed during flu season, which ends March 31, for immigration purposes. Your wife will not need one.

Hi all,

Quick question: I sent my I-864 and DS-230 on 3/23/11. To date, when I call the automated system it still says they have no receipt of my case. Is that normal?

Unfortunately, every now and then, someone will never have the AVR to work properly. So, if you ever want to hear updates about your case, you're going to have to call an operator. No, it's not exactly "normal", but it does happen every so often. Did you speak with an operator about this?

It was so long ago, we hadn't done our 2010 taxes. NVC were sent 2007,8,and 9 transcripts, W2's etc. Same with our joint sponsor.

Are you saying that, if my interview is after April 18th, we need to take the 2010 docs in - for both us and my joint sponsor? Ughh - that will be a pain in the a## for the joint sponsor....

Oh, if you hadn't submitted 2010 tax info with the AOS, then yes, if your interview is after April 18, you'll need 2010 tax info, for you and I believe the joint sponsor as well. You can always ask when you call London on Friday. Or maybe you'll get an interview before April 18th and don't need to worry about this ;)

Hmm, I just checked and you're right.

I find it extremely weird there are no shipments for ANY April ref numbers. That doesn't make any sense...

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCSC to TSC to NVC: the Saga continues

Now I have calmed, and we have gotten through NVC - SAYLIN, I want to pick your brain. What happens at SIF? Does that mean we are going to be shipped to consulate yet? We ARE on expedite, and were told to call on Friday for an interview date - I assume on expedite, London will set the date, hence the docs going there first. I'm looking at tracking the docs, but there is nothing sent in April yet by DHL unless they have changed the tracking numbers criteria. 04, 04 APR doesn't bring anything up.

Secondly, you say that copies of tax returns for 2010 are required. Does that include us that have been processed thru NVC? Will I need to take our 2010 Tax return copy & W2? If so, will I also need to take my joint sponsors latest tax documents to the London interview even though they were processed thru NVC?

Thanks!! I am excited this is coming to a conclusion!!

Yes, since you were expedited, NVC should send your case sometime this week to London, then London will schedule the interview date for you. Since your case was just completed today, it probably won't have shipped yet. Maybe tomorrow.

If you had sent in the 2010 tax returns and W2s with your AOS package, then no you don't need them as they'll have them already. You only need to bring 2010 tax info with you if you didn't submit it to NVC already. Like me, for example, my husband hadn't filed his 2010 taxes by the time we got to NVC, so we had just sent pay stubs and an employment letter, so we're required to bring 2010 tax info for the interview as our interview is after April 18 (deadline for US taxes).

NVC operator told me that my case was sent on 4/1/11, but i do not see any shipments to my country on the date

Look for shipments using the ref for March 31, so EXP 31 MAR 2011A. They call DHL the day BEFORE your case is shipped out and they get a reference number assigned to them of the date they call it in, not necessarily the day they ship it out.

If that doesn't work, try using the ref for April 4, so EXP 4 APR 2011A.

Thank you!!!!

I read in one of NVC guides that it takes 7 - 10 days after case completion to get forwarded to consulate, so hopefully it will be mailed off by next week! Aaahh I'm so excited! :)

Remember, NVC only ships your case to the embassy/consulate AFTER an interview date has been assigned, so it could be longer, depending when you get an interview date assigned.

Do you know if NVC can schedule the interview with the foreign consulate in advance of forwarding the paperwork or will they not schedule an interview until the consulate has the paper in their hands? I'm in the same boat, they have approved but not sent. They are also considering an expedite request I sent last week. I don't know what they are waiting for. How long does it take to schedule an interview over the phone and ship the package?

NVC first schedules the interview. Then a day or so after that, NVC then ships the case to the US embassy or consulate.

For expedites though, it's the other way. They ship the case then the US embassy or consulate schedules an interview.

Confirmed - case closed WAHOOOO!!

We have to call Friday for an expedited interview date!! Posted Image

It's about time! Congrats!!! Posted Image Posted Image

Our AVR message in the NVC has changed yesterday to "We have received your checklist???(hard to understand), please allow 6-8 weeks for processing." We have sent to NVC both packages through our lawyer two weeks ago and received acknowledgement of the receipt by NVC immediately then. What this message could mean? I could not understand the two words in the message and they sounded to me as "check list", but am not too sure.

Anyone please advise? I believe they are now reviewing our AOS and IV packet and if no RFEs the case will be closed in the next couple of days. Am I correct?

Thank you everyone. Soooo close! Excitement!

You should read this thread: http://www.visajourn...mated-messages/ If it's referencing "check list", it's most likely saying they received your IV package.

Should we have the 2010 Federal Income Tax Return, W2, IRS transcript for the interview!? Not sure if we can get it by April 18th! We have the 2009/2008/2007 documents.

If your interview is after April 18th, then yes, you need to have a copy of your 2010 tax return and copies of all W2s. You do not need the 2010 tax transcript, but as long as you have a copy of the 1040 and W2s, you're perfectly fine.

I'm pleasantly surprised. We just got our NOA2 on March 25th and on Monday April 4th NVC sent us an email with our NVC case number, IIN and beneficiary ID number. That was only 6 business days after being approved at USCIS. I'm excited that it's progressing so quickly.

The only downside is they had my maiden name on the paperwork even though we filled out everything with my married name, but I was able to call and get ahold of a customer service representative and she told me to send a pdf copy of my new passport and explain that I'm using my married name now, so it should be okay.

Grats! Posted Image 10 days total is faster than the average for TSC refugees.

CONGRATS ERICK!! Bring on the day I receive that email LOL!!

NVC are OK - unless something goes wrong....

JUST received THIS email....

The NVC has received the requested Immigrant Visa Application (DS-230). However, we are still
waiting for the response to the checklist letter for the Affidavit of Support (Form I-864). Please return
the requested information so that we may complete the processing of your case.

The checklist in question asked for a copy of Val's $200 bank statement. We have sent this three times - twice by email, once by snail mail. They have acknowledged receipt of all items. Now we get this email......

I mean, just what is going on here? People are ill, Val could lose our house, and they are asking for a $200 bank statement they have had three times?Posted ImagePosted Image

AND THIS is what they call expedite???

A thing about emails, they're not sent out IMMEDIATELY. There can be a delay. The emails are sent out through an automatic system, so that email might have been generated BEFORE you sent in the response.

VJ Fam, my case was completed at the NVC yesterday! Just found out this morning! The operator said that April is too full to schedule interviews so I am hoping we get something in May! Just wanted to share the news with everyone! And thanks to all of you who have helped me through this! I sincerely don't know what I'd do without this forum and its members!

Hi All,

I know there have been several discussions about TAX Filing.

So now i know my wont make it here before April 15th , so what is the best option :_

1) Extend my Filing Dates ( but i think this requires SSN too , if I am not wrong ) . OR just extend as Single and than file as Couple.

2) File as Single and than later ammend as married ? Is this ok ? Essentially I am lying that I am Single.

3) Married Filing Jointly with W7 ( ITIN application ) ?

Which is the best .. Please advise.

Thanks,

Babaa.

If you don't want to apply for a W7, there's also a 4th option: married filing separately. In the SSN field, just put NRA (Non-Resident Alien) for the foreign spouse. You won't be able to file online though, this way or married filing jointly. And your tax refund won't be as high if you do it this way; married filing jointly almost always has a higher tax refund. Although you can always amend the tax return once your spouse is in the USA and gets an SSN and you can change it to married filing jointly and get the higher refund. It all depends if you're willing to do a little work for the W7 or not. Plus, the deadline for taxes is April 18th, so I'm not sure if married filing jointly is even an option for you right now as I don't know how fast you can get everything together.

I would not do option 1 or 2 as you're filing wrong; you're married, not single.

I thought the folks in New Hampshire would schedule the interview with the foreign consulate and send you an email once the case was completed. Is the interview letter the next communication I will receive? When do you guys who just got SIF expect to get your interview letter?

Yes, you're right. NVC gets an interview schedule from the US embassy or consulate with how much room they have and then NVC schedules interviews accordingly.

The only people who get case complete emails are those that are doing electronic processing. So your next (and last) communication will be from NVC with the interview package.

Judging from Saylin's timeline I got another 20 days to get an interview date. I thought we were supposed to breeze through NVC. This is going to take 4 months from NOA2 to Interview date.

It varies when you will get an interview date after getting a case complete. Some people can find out the next day, some wait a few weeks. It depends when you get a case complete and how busy the US embassy or consulate is in the foreign country, so it's extremely hard to figure out WHEN you'll find out your interview date. You just have to keep calling NVC and DOS to see, or wait till you get the email from NVC.

You can also call DOS, they would know as well. That's how I found out today that my case arrived at the consulate.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCSC to TSC to NVC: the Saga continues

Maybe since TSC/CSC did such a GREAT job with our cases... some of the personnel have been promoted and now work at NVC :bonk:

Oh, that would be bad, very bad. Those people need to stay in TSC and not spread like some plague. They definitely need to be contained in only one area of this process.

Wow, how do you get the info to track this stuff?

I see LARAEYES package in there also I think.....nothing to London for us though...LOL

If you know the date your case was shipped out, you can follow the instructions in this thread: http://www.visajourn...nvc-to-embassy/

*Note: I don't know if you'll bother to read the whole thread besides the first post, but instead of using the example of EXP19MAR2009A, since June 2009 the new format would be: EXP 19 MAR 2009A. The spaces are now important or you won't find any shipments whatsoever.

I actually used the method listed on the thread to track my package on Monday from NVC to Montreal. Pretty nifty! :D
