IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 form

I'm a bit confused with the DS-260.

Does my husband fill it out online and then mail out a package of the required documents? I'm not exactly sure what he needs to do at this point and I don't want to screw anything up. Which civil documents should I give him to send out aside from birth certificate, passport, and our marriage license? Are they able to be copies until his interview date?

I've read instructions and what not, but sometimes it's just better to talk to ppl who have experience with these things.

Whoever is the beneficiary fills out the DS-260 online.

Then, you mail out the supporting documents. Or email them if you signed up for EP.

Supporting documents needed:
-bar coded cover sheet (from payment portal)
-cover letter (optional, but recommended)
-2 passport style pictures of beneficiary (with full name, date of birth, and case number written on back)
-copy of bio data page in beneficiary's passport
-original/certified copy of beneficiary's birth certificate*
-original/certified copy of marriage certificate*
-original police certificate of beneficiary*

*If you're snail mailing the package, then also include a photocopy of each of these documents as well as the original/certified copy

If you do EP, then you need to bring the originals with you at the time of the interview for the consulate to verify.

If you haven't done so, I'd suggest reading the wiki I wrote for the NVC stage when it comes to online forms and EP. The link is in my signature.

And of course, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I'd be glad to help you :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMoving during begininng stages of CR-1

I am Canadian and my husband and I were recently married. We are getting ready to send in the I-130. I am currently living in Ontario, Canada, however, my best friend has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer and is in the final stages of life and I feel I need to move back to British Columbia (where I am originally from) to be with her.

What effects will this have on our application? My address and work would change. I don't think I would actually be moving for another month or more and then living with my parents. Any suggestions on how to proceed before we send in the I-130?

Thanks so much.

Would you be moving before or after you send the I-130? If you're moving after, then there's really nothing you could do. Just have all forwarded to your new address; although, as the beneficiary, you shouldn't be receiving anything from NVC. Then, once you get to NVC, just put your new address on all the forms. If you move before you send the I-130, then just make sure your new address is on all the forms.

so our apparent expedite will do nothing for us? Just as I thought

You have to expedite at each step of the way. So once you get a case number, call up NVC and request an expedite like NASCARFAN186 suggested.

Does anyone know what the next step is after NOA2 approval? Do we just wait for NVC to send information?

Around next Monday, start calling up NVC to see if a case number has been assigned.

Congratulations to all approved tonight so far ...

Where is Saylin!!! to update the spreadsheet? ... Lately, Sayling's performance is getting similar to that of USCIS staff ... we should complain to Mrs. Borrows about her!

Saylin, do you think I should call NVC and ask for the case number? We were approved on February 10th but when I call the automated system it says there is no record of my case number yet. Did you just call and ask for it?

Yes, besides calling the AVR, I would call an operator at least once a day to see if they have a case number assigned to you. I found out my case number through an operator and the AVR only updated two days later to reflect they assigned a case number.

Thanks, Saylin. That's a relief.

Get used to hearing standard timeframes from operators. I'm currently hearing "20 business days" every day I call an operator to ask if my packages have been reviewed.

Got a reply from Mr. Badger today:

Mr. Grant

The approved I-130 is currently in the NVC.

The assigned NVC case number is BNK**************.

We will also reach out to the NVC manager and ask that the case be expedited from the NVC to the Consulate.

David Badger

OK, that is a sigh of relief knowing that it has been assigned a case number.

Thank you DAVID BADGER

My husband is filing jointly as well. He would do married filing separately since it's easier, but he'd owe the government money while he gets quite a lot of money back if he does jointly.

My dearest VJ family, who've been through, and are still on, one of the most disturbing roller coaster rides of our lives, I haven't received ANY text message or ANY email regarding the status of my case.

At 8:54PM, after having finished my cases at work from 6 this morning, I followed my usual routine- get on VJ, read up on how my friends are doing, and for the hell of it log on to the USCIS website.

My I130 and I129F cases statuses were both updated as of today.

I immediately clicked on the I130 and my eyes fell on a blue dot overlying "Post Decision Activity". Not having mailed in any wedding photos, tickets, receipts, Skype screen shots, affidavits, joint account information, etc., I feared I was in for the mother of all RFEs.

The notice reads as follows:

Post Decision Activity

On February 22, 2011, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

The notice for my I129F reads as follows:

Did anyone who was approved on the 10th of Feb get a NVC case number yet?

Checked my spreadsheet. Only one person with an NOA2 date of Feb 10 got an NVC case number: OuterX. There have been approvals after Feb 10 though that have gotten an NVC case number.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCalifornia to Texas & Texas to California - Part 2

For all those who haven't received an NOA2, did you send 2 affidavits to show the marriage is bona fide? Cause some of us who received an RFE was cause we didn't send affidavits or show any mutual accounts, property, lease, etc. I don't want to get anyone nervous but I have a feeling the longer the wait the higher the chance of receiving an RFE :(

I didn't send any affidavits at all and I didn't send any mutual accounts or joint leases (since we don't have any).

We just sent: 11 pictures (6 wedding related, 5 others), my 8 plane tickets to the USA, 6 movie tickets while I was in the USA last summer, and two snapshots of our conversation on Skype and another on MSN. Plus, obviously, our marriage certificate. That was all.

Some of these RFEs people are getting baffles me cause I don't see how most couples will have joint or mutual accounts since most aren't living together. Some of these officers are just out of their mind Posted Image

Yeah, I thought it was weird too. Because CSC is usually so fast, I had been calling since last Monday (wishful thinking) and fully expecting something by Thursday or Friday. At least now I know when it was sent out and don't have to worry that it was lost (yet).

I just posted this on the CSC-TSC-NVC thread as well, but I thought I'd update you guys here as well. I received this email from Angela Barrows today:

"Ms. ,

Good afternoon. Just wanted to make sure that you know that your petition was approved on the 11th and forwarded to the NVC on the 16th. I apologize if you have already received an email.

Regards,"

Thought this might be helpful for anyone who was approved at CSC around the same time and is wondering when to expect their case numbers.

Weird that it took so long for CSC to ship it. Usually they're fast.
