IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresadvice for nvc

I got NOA2 on 6/21 and have been calling them once a day but the message is still "The case number you entered is wrong or your case has not yet benn received from USCIS...". I think the average is 11 - 15 business days - hopefully I will get a NVC Case Number by July 1st else will have to wait till July 6th due to long week-end. All the best to all who are waiting for the NVC Case Numbers.

Have you been calling an operator? The AVR is slow to update and it could be a case number has already been assigned. I'd suggest calling an operator at least twice a day to see if a case number has been assigned. Never rely solely on the AVR as you could waste a few days.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresadvice for nvc

Congratulations I got approved on June 23rd.. And I actually call NVC and ask for my case number and they gave it to me.. I don't know what is a IIN? If anyone knows please let me know But yeah hope we can help each other out :)

IIN = Invoice Identification Number

It's required to sign onto the payment portal to pay the AOS and IV bills and to print the barcoded cover sheets after they appear as PAID.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresadvice for nvc

Posted Image HI everyone! Our I-130 was approved June 22 and we are still waiting the nvc case number. I want to make sure I understand the next steps at nvc! I get my case number, then call and give them my husband and my email addresses. Then file the DS-3032 by mail and email both? When they except the ds-3032 then I can pay first fee of $88 online and send the AOS by mail then the payment of $404 and send the Iv package? Is this correct steps or can I send both payments at one time and both I files at the same time? I think I am confusing myself I just want to do everything right the first time and the fastest way too! Thank's for all your help! Posted Image O and also when I do the AOS I have both my parent's in my house hold so they are doing an I-864a do they also have to do a I-864 or is it just me the petitioner that will do the I-864? I have the last 3 yrs of my tax papers but they only have the last 2 yrs will it be ok to just send the last 2 of their's and my last 3yrs? I also have check stub's of my dad's and a letter from his retirement plan of the last 3 yrs of annual salary. We will also have letter's of employment, will this be all the info we will need? I know the AOS is the most important step and want to make sure we have everything correct the first time. My dad's income alone is well over the proverty guidelines so the income is not a concern just don't want to leave something out because we know we are over the guidelines for income then end up they want more info... Thank's again for any advice! Posted Image

Grats on your I-130 approval!

Here's a quick summary of the NVC process:

-get case number and IIN
-send DS-3032*
-pay AOS bill once available
-once bill appears as PAID, you can send the AOS package
-pay IV bill (will only appear once the DS-3032 has been accepted)
-once bill appears as PAID, you can send the IV package

*It's much easier if you just email as NVC will receive and accept it within a few business days instead of taking much longer if mailed. Follow the template here: http://www.visajourn...il_DS-3032_form

You mentioned that you can only pay the $88 fee once the DS-3032 has been accepted. That's wrong. The AOS bill isn't dependent on that form. It'll appear within a few days of getting your case number. The only thing that's dependent on the DS-3032 is the IV bill. It will NOT appear until the form has been accepted.

You can't pay the bills at the same time unless you don't pay the AOS when it first appears and wait until the IV one appears. Other than that, you can't pay them at the same time as the AOS bill will always appear first since the IV is dependent upon the acceptance of the DS-3032. This is untrue if you have a lawyer though. The lawyer is always automatically chosen as the choice of agent, so both the AOS and IV bills appear at the same time.

Now, you can send both packages at the same time if you wish to do so. Just don't send the AOS package once the AOS bill appears as PAID. Wait until the IV bill appears as PAID, and then you can put both packages in the same envelope and mail that. Just make sure it's clearly marked which package is which inside.

For the AOS, you have to file an I-864, and then both your parents file an I-864a.

For the tax papers, only the most recent tax year is required, so if you don't have all 3 years, it's ok as it's just optional.

Don't forget to include a birth certificate or US passport to prove your parents' legal status in the US. And I'm not sure, but you might also need their marriage certificate.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-130 guide related question

I have read out the following instruction that how to proceed I-130
http://www.visajourn...p/EZGuideSpouse

I am confused in following steps

3) Email DS-3032 (Choice of Agent) by the beneficiary to NVCINQUIRY@state.gov making the U.S petitioner as the agent (Email format: http://www.visajourn...il_DS-3032_form)

Question: We don't want any agent still we need DS-3032 ?

You HAVE to select an agent. Most VJ members select the petitioner as the agent.

4) Log in to NVC online payment system at https://ceac.state.g...ice/signon.aspx to see AOS and IV fee are generated

What is AOS ?

AOS is Affidavit of Support, I-864 form.

5) Pay Affidavit of Support (AOS - I-864) review fee $88 and Immigrant Visa (DS-230) fee $404, if generated. Payment status will be 'IN PROCESS' after the payment. In 1 or 2 days, the status will be 'PAID'

Questions:

  • My wife has already sent DS-230 along I-130 in the beginning
  • Do we need to file Affidavit of support online ?
  • I have received email from USCIS confirming our I-130 is approved but NOA2 didn't received yet will they guide us in NOA2 that what to do to file Affidavit of support ? ?
-Your wife should not have sent the DS-230 with the I-130. The DS-230 gets sent during the NVC process after your I-130 is approved.
-You cannot file the AOS online as there is no option of an online form. You must print out the form, complete it and sign it.
-You should get the NOA2 in the mail. Call up NVC and see if a case number has been assigned. Give your email addresses over and within a few days of a case number being assigned, NVC will email you an information package.

7) Express mail AOS packet and IV packet to NVC
What is that ?

It's a type of mail you can choose. You can choose the most basic, slowest type that will take a few days to get to NVC. Express mail is more expensive, but will get to NVC faster.

I included an answer for all questions in bold above.

I highly suggest you re-read all the guides as all your questions could have been answered within the guides. Here's two more guides you should read:

http://www.visajourn..._live_in_the_US
http://www.visajourn...he_NVC_ShortCut

I would suggest re-reading these guides multiple times until you understand this easy process.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 "Missing"

Thanks for your reply!

Yah, I should have done more research. It is what it is now. I guess I've tacked on another month to everything.

I wouldn't say an extra month. Anywhere from 1-3 weeks. Definitely fill out and submit the DS-260 asap. Then you'll probably get an interview late August.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 "Missing"

Hey all.

Got a notice from the NVC that I need to submit a DS-260. I had only submitted an DS-230 along with all my documents but apparently Montreal requires the DS-260.

My question is, do I need to re-submit all my documents or will they just use what I had sent in with the DS-230?

Also, what sort of delay am I looking at? Does the clock start over? The NVC had originally received my DS-230 and I-864 on the 13th and the notice was sent on the 24th. Is that any indication of how long it takes for them to process? I guess what I'm asking is, had I also submitted the DS-260 earlier and they did not need to notify me (there were no other issues) would they have proceeded to close my case at that time or do they just stop in their tracks and send out a notice?

Thanks!

Yes, Montreal is a country that is required to do the online forms. Unfortunately, you should have done your research before and you wouldn't have wasted time.

You shouldn't need to re-submit your documents. Just go and fill out the DS-260. I'm not sure if it's the same timeframe of 2-3 weeks to review the online form as it is for packages, but I would suspect so.

As soon as NVC gets to your DS-260 and reviews it, they'll complete your case.

If you did do your research earlier and had submitted the DS-260 when you were supposed to, you'd have a case complete.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-864EZ

Hi,

Just wondering how many months of pay stubs do I need to print out for the I-864EZ? I have read 3 months and also 6 months? Which one is right? I have met the income requirement for the last three years and have all my tax documents and will also be providing a letter from my employer.

There's no certain number of months as the pay stubs themselves aren't mandatory. Most people though submit 6 months when they do submit pay stubs. It's up to you how many you submit.

For our case, we submitted all the pay stubs my husband had at his current job, which was 7 months worth.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVery confused..AOS is paid, what next?

Hello everyone!

Me and my husband are confused and would like to "clear up" some stuff about the AOS and the IV package. We have looked at the LingChe link, but we're still a little unsure about it all.

We have paid AOS Fee. It shows PAID online.
We have recieved the IV Fee Bill. Not yet paid.

So if we got this right, are we suppose to send in a I 864/AOS package now? The barcode cover sheet have to be downloaded and then all the employment proof is sent to the NVC? And 1 copy is sent to the beneficiary?

Then the IV Fee Bill is paid? After sending the AOS package?
The IV package should contain the BARCODE cover sheet for the IV package generated after the Bill is paid?
Can we pay this IV bill even if AOS package is not sent in?
This IV package is the final package and includes marrige certificate, passport copy, birth certificate, police records, and DS 230 part I and II?

And then that is sent in to the NVC aswell, but AFTER AOS package is sent?

I thought the AOS Package and the IV Package was the same untill I read the LingChe, and now we're very confused. We dont want to do anything wrong, so we will slow the process down. Its all going really well.

I appreciate all help :) Thanks!!!

Richard & Ine

Please remember, the AOS and IV tracks are SEPARATE. They don't affect the other.

So, you can either send in the AOS package now, or wait till the IV is paid and send it together.

You can definitely pay the IV bill now. Again, it has NOTHING to do with the AOS package. The IV package can even be sent in BEFORE the AOS since they have nothing to do with each other. NVC will review whatever they receive first, whether it's the AOS or IV package.

As long as you pay both bills and send in both packages, NVC doesn't care what you do first. As long as you only send the packages after the bills appear as PAID since you need the bar-coded cover sheet, you're fine with whatever you do.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMontreal Interview Requirements (Originals)

I posted this on another thread, but no one is responding... lol

I have an interview in Montreal on August 8th. I went through electronic processing.

I have a couple of questions I am concerned/curious about: If anyone is able to help that would be greatly appreciated!

1) Is my husband going to be able to go into the interview with me?

2) Do I have to sign up or anything for DHL? I have nothing about that? Not that I recollect anyways.

3) Re: Affidavit of Support. This is the only thing that worries me.

I sent in everything via Electronic Processing. I have a co-sponsor (Don't even think I ended up needing him but went with it just in case.) I have all the originals for my husband, except Tax Returns. He didn't have those. What I have are statements from the IRS. The rest that I have for my husband are pay stubs, letter of employment and original/signed AOS forms.

For my Co-Sponsor. I have the original/signed AOS form. However, his company is paperless so I only have printed copies of pay stubs. I have copies of his W-2s but they just look printed on paper. I don't know if the government officially issues them ? And I have a COPY of his 2010 tax return. I'm concerned they need the original? I asked him to order the IRS statements too but he's going through a divorce and his wife is being a boo-boo head and I'm worried she'll throw out his mail OR I won't get it in time.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

1. Yup, your husband is allowed inside and to the interview.

2. Yes, you have to sign up for a DHL location. That's the only way you can get your passport back with the visa in it and the sealed envelope. Inky has the link in the above post. Sign up asap.

3. You can't possibly have the ORIGINAL of a tax return as you send those in to the IRS! It's of course going to be a copy! If you have transcripts though (which are much preferred by both NVC and the consulate), then you don't need the tax returns or W2s. You mentioned you have the transcripts for your husband, so that's good. If your co-sponsor doesn't end up getting his transcripts in time, then just bring the tax returns and W2s. And if your co-sponsor gets his transcripts, he can just scan them in and email them to you. No need to mail them. That's what I did with my husband's as he got his only a few days before my interview with no time to mail them.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresElectronic Filling

Hello:
Is anyone doing electronic filling? It is new and difficult. Here, in Canada, the mail is no longer on strike but there are long delays. We have been chosen to do electronic filling with NVC. So far so good. We are waiting for my husbands AOS to be accepted. Then I don't know what is next.I did the 260 on line. I don't know how to turn files into PDF and send from my e-mail.

Marie

EP isn't actually new. It's been around for about 2 years now. And if you read the guides and instructions enough, it's not difficult at all.

I find it weird that you're saying you don't know how to turn files into PDFs and send them by email, yet you say you sent the AOS already and waiting for it to be accepted. Posted Image

Try reading my wiki on EP and online forms for Canadians, perhaps it will help you. The link is in my signature. I'd suggest reading it and re-reading it until you have the process memorized.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresRFE asking for DS230 when i already send it!!

My husband (a petitioner) just got an email from NVC yesterday, (checklist cover letter) said that they've received and reviwed his documents (AOS packet) and they're still WAITING for the Immigrant Visa Application (DS-230) and corresponding civil documents...

:( I mailed my DS-230 and the documents on June 07 2011, via DHL and its been delivered on June 09, 2011 (picked up in Boston?!) that's the last time I heard about my packet as well...week later I email NVC to see if they've received my application and documents yet but they told me, to wait 20 business day and can't tell if they've received it or not. :( what should we do now? :( I dont want to delay the process..and don't want my application to be lost somewhere!

Ps, my husband mailed his packet a few days ahead of me

You're fine, please relax! As soon as NVC reviews a package, they issue a false RFE asking for the other package, not checking first if that package is in the building somewhere.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-864 part 3

I have the same problem here, how about if I'm the only sponsor for my wife what I shall check below the no. 8 between yes and no because I don't use joint sponsor.
Thank you for you information.

Check the box beside 8 and then 'yes' below. Question 8 is asking whether or not you're sponsoring an immigrant and you are.

If you have a co-sponsor, then you check yes as well since you're sponsoring the immigrant, but with help.

The only time you check 'no' is if you're not helping at all and you have 2 joint sponsors.
SaylinFemaleCanada2011-07-06 20:05:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-864 part 3

In Part 3, check Item 8, because you are the primary sponsor of your spouse mentioned in Part 2.

Then for the ones below that, check "Yes", if you have just one joint-sponsor only (it doesn't matter whether I-864 or I-864A filer) or check "No" if you have two joint-sponsors (meaning you plus two others). It looks like you have one family member living at the same address as you (I-864A indicates that) as co-sponsor - if this is correct, then check "YES".

I agree. Posted Image

Check item 8 and then "yes" as you only have one joint sponsor.

Sounds good! I've heard that if my stay in NZ will not exceed five months (assuming the CR-1 will be done by then) that NZ police certificates are not required. Do you know if that's true? I mean, I'll provide any certificate if needed, but it might save me a little on the hassle.

Here's a link to NVC's page on police certificates: http://travel.state....195.html#police Scroll just a little bit and there's a table.

Remember, it'll take about 5 months just to get your I-130 approved.

Hi, thanks for these golden replies.

To clear things up a little, I am an NZ permanent resident and my wife resides in the US. But I am originally not from NZ.
My wife will file the I-130 in the US, while I await interviews in NZ.

Does this make a difference?

If you're a permanent resident of NZ, then yes, you can have your interview in NZ!

When you get to NVC, you're just going to have to get police certificates from all the places you've lived, NZ included. Also, make sure all documents are translated in English, if they're not already.

Also, depending on your country of origin, you might have to go through additional processing at the interview (background checks and such).

This forum has been a great source of info so far. At this point I do have an expert question myself.

Later this year me and my wife would like to kick-off the CR-1 procedure. During the process I do expect to land a temp contract job in New Zealand, which is not my country of origin. I am eligible to live and work there though.

My question is, as the US Embassy of NZ is located in Auckland, whether I am able to process the CR-1 procedure (medicals, interview etc.) there, even though I have lived in other countries most of my life.
Will there be any challenges along the way? Do I need to bring specific documents from my country of origin to show in NZ?

Thanks for your advice!

I found this under the FAQ section on the US Embassy for New Zealand: http://newzealand.us.../iv_faq.html#30

So, you'd be able to interview in NZ if you have a valid visa and have been residing there for 6 months.

I would suggest calling or emailing the Embassy, detail your circumstances, and verify if you can or cannot get your visa processed through their embassy.

EDIT: Are you the beneficiary or the petitioner? If you're the beneficiary, then what I said applies. But if you're the petitioner, then what the person said above is correct. You'd only be able to do DCF until August 14 and you'd need to have been living there for 6 months to apply.

Congrats!!!!!

I just checked to sign in from the link "Saylin" had provided and I also cannot sign in anymore! I had just checked yesterday and was able to sign in and see the fees paid.

Is there an automated phone number that you can call to get the status on the case? We weren't eligible for Electronic Processing so it sounds like we won't get any confirmation email about the case complete.

Does that mean the next thing to expect to hear is about the interview date?

WOW.... Can't believe it could be all done in a few more weeks!!! :D :D :D :o

Grats on your SIF!

Call NVC (603 334-0700) and follow the prompts to the AVR. If they haven't changed anything since I was in NVC, it's 1 for English, 1 for Immigrant Visa, 2 to use your NVC case number, then the 3 digits for your embassy code, 1 to confirm, then the 10 numbers in your case number, and 1 to confirm.

And no, you won't be getting a case complete email as you're not from an eligible country. The next, and last, email you're going to get is of your interview date.

@ Saylin and OBX: I agree with what both of you are saying. I noticed your date of interview last night actually (Saylin) :)

I'm not sure why the operator said what they said, or it could be that they meant that the NVC themselves only schedule in the second week of every month? I guess in all my excitement I could have asked her to be more clear...

Those guys definitely confuse me, but what matters is that yet another hurdle is over!

I think the NVC operators say that to deter people from calling every day, like us VJers.

I bet that even if you ask about it, they'll deny the fact that they schedule in other weeks. Although there was a member here recently (forgot who) who spoke with a supervisor and asked about that and they actually admitted that they do schedule all month long.

PS @ Saylin - Did you receive the same letter that I pasted here?

Yay, glad it worked!

I'm thinking you'll get a late August interview. If not, then early September for sure! :)

And yes, I received the same email. As does all those doing EP.

Hmmm... Well I called NVC and listened to the 'Voice Auto'.

It said that they received the "checklist letter response" on July 6th, 2011 and to allow 6-8 weeks for processing.

I have no clue what that means!

We had spoken to an operator last night to clear up some confusion we had with the recording prior. Maybe thats all it was about.

Anyway, regardless, we are getting closer!

Definitely cause to celebrate!

The applicant should NOT make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment until the US Embassy or Consulate General has issued a visa.

I tried to log into the NVC portal and did not get a SIF, but I did note that the fees that once showed as paid are now blocked and say unavailable. I am sure that even a few days ago they still had green check marks. Any one else had this letter or log in experience? The wondering is driving me crazy! I know that some day in the not so distant future we will be done but its still nerve racking!

Grats! That email means your case is complete!! Posted Image

For the SIF, are you logging in here: https://ceac.state.g...ice/signon.aspx ? There's two links for Canadians since we do online forms and that link you won't get a SIF. But with the link I just provided, that's used by everybody to pay bills. That's the site you should get a SIF.

EDIT: I actually just tried signing into the link for the online forms, and even after 4 months, I can still log in. Posted Image So definitely make sure you're using the link I gave.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIRS transcript and unsigned 1040 income tax

Employment letter is mandatory.

Actually, it's not mandatory, it's optional, as are the pay stubs.

From the I-864 instructions, page 7:

"You may include evidence supporting your claim about your expected income for the current year if you believe that submitting this evidence will help you establish ability to maintain sufficient income. You are not required to submit this evidence, however, unless specifically instructed to do so by a Government official. For example, you may include a recent letter from your employer, showing your employer's address and telephone number, and indicating your annual salary. You may also provide pay stub(s) showing your income for the previous six months. If your claimed income includes alimony, child support, dividend or interest income, or income from any other source, you may also include evidence of that income. "

There's only 3 things mandatory in the AOS package: bar-coded cover sheet, I-864 (signed and completed), and tax information (either transcripts OR 1040s and W2s).

And for all joint sponsors, proof of citizenship or residency is required as well.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIRS transcript and unsigned 1040 income tax

I went and read the instructions again. Yes, it is either the tax returns or the transcripts - more over only the latest year is the requirement and the next 2 latest are optional.

I don't how but somehow a few mentioned about 6 months of pay stubs, whereas just the proof of employment is the requirement. Any thought on this!

Pay stubs are optional, but recommended, as it shows proof of current income, as does the employment letter.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIRS transcript and unsigned 1040 income tax

I just received my 3 years IRS transcripts for my I-864. Do i still need to submit or include my 1040 form with my IRS transcripts? My problem is my 3 years (2008,2009,2010 ) 1040 form copy was not signed when I made a copy. I was wondering if this is still necessarily if you already have a copy or 3 years IRS transcript and W2 copy... Thanks!

If you have the transcripts, then don't bother sending in the 1040s or W2s. NVC much prefers the transcripts, so you're perfect :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMontreal interview tomorrow! More questions!

Hi there! I finally have my Montreal interview tomorrow at 8am, well my husband officially but I am coming along...plus I was the one that did all of the paperwork! I has a question though, are they going to ask for paper copies of things that were processed electronically? Because we did electronic processing and filled out many things online only I do not had copies. Do I need to get them? Thank you!

They're going to ask you for the original AOS package, as well as the original/certified copy of the beneficiary's birth certificate, your original/certified copy marriage certificate, and the original certificate. As well as the basics: interview letter, passport, 2 passport pictures, and medical results. They're also gonna ask you to fill out the DS-230 when you get there (unless they've finally gotten used to the new, online system). I'd suggest preparing one ahead of time to save a lot of time.

It's always suggested to bring copies of EVERYTHING you've submitted, but if you don't have it, then you don't have it. But the above that is listed is mandatory.

Good luck at the interview tomorrow!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurestried logging in and got a red box

how will they notify me that my case has been completed? The last few things they sent me have been via email but i started out with regular mail? I am going to call them tomorrow! What are MENA forums?

You won't be notified your case is complete. You have to call and ask an operator or listen to the AVR.

MENA = Middle East and North Africa. Forum found here: http://www.visajourn...d-north-africa/

As far as I know, because of the closure of the embassy back at the beginning of the year, there's now about a 5-6 month backlog to get an interview date. Unfortunately, you're in for a LONG wait. I'd suggest joining this thread: http://www.visajourn...51#entry4733551

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIV Package and AOS Sent.. STILL NO ANSWER FROM NVC

Hey guys!

we sent the DS-230 with all documents and the AOS
Do you have any idea how many days do we have to wait
to get a response from NVC??

I know after that they will send the package to the embassy abroad.

How long it takes?

Does any one with this same situation??

Thank you!!

Onituan!

It'll take about 2 weeks for NVC to review your packages. If no RFEs, then your case is closed and put into a queue to get an interview date scheduled. This time varies by consulate/embassy as it depends on how busy each one is. Once you do get an interview date scheduled, the package is then shipped to the consulate/embassy after a few days.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 form

I am the beneficiary. My husband lives in WA state...I live in BC (btw, not thrilled that Vancouver doesn't do these interviews)

Haha, I bet. I'm sure it'd be a lot more convenient than flying all the way to Montreal. Although, you can at least get your medical done in Vancouver if that's any consolation.

Anyways, on to your original question. The passport will definitely be needed at the interview as that's what the visa is placed in. As for the IV package, I'm pretty sure your enhanced DL won't suffice. And there's a question on the DS-260 that asks for your passport number and such. Unfortunately, I see no way around not submitting a copy of your passport with the IV package and as the question on the DS-260 is mandatory, you won't be able to continue with the online application. Do you not have a passport?

And by the way, since you're the beneficiary, your passport wasn't required with the I-130 package. Only the petitioner's was required (if they weren't using their birth certificate to prove US citizenship). The only thing required solely of the beneficiary with the I-130 was a passport picture and a completed G-325A.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 form

sorry, I was assuming everyone could read my mind...lol...I am just waiting for my IV Fee Bill to be sent and then i guess its the DS-260 we will be sending in with supporting documents. My enhanced DL was enough when I sent in documents with the I-130. I'm hoping its enough for this form too. Do you happen to know?

Are you the petitioner or beneficiary?

Sorry for the questions, but it'll help to answer your original question.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 form

I am waiting for my passport, but I have not needed it to travel to my husband's place which is only 15 minutes away (we are both living in border towns in BC) and my enhanced DL is sufficient. Does anyone know if I NEED to have my passport in order to complete this step? Just hoping for as few delays as possible during these final steps.

Which step are you talking about?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 form

I'm a bit confused with the DS-260.

Does my husband fill it out online and then mail out a package of the required documents? I'm not exactly sure what he needs to do at this point and I don't want to screw anything up. Which civil documents should I give him to send out aside from birth certificate, passport, and our marriage license? Are they able to be copies until his interview date?

I've read instructions and what not, but sometimes it's just better to talk to ppl who have experience with these things.

Whoever is the beneficiary fills out the DS-260 online.

Then, you mail out the supporting documents. Or email them if you signed up for EP.

Supporting documents needed:
-bar coded cover sheet (from payment portal)
-cover letter (optional, but recommended)
-2 passport style pictures of beneficiary (with full name, date of birth, and case number written on back)
-copy of bio data page in beneficiary's passport
-original/certified copy of beneficiary's birth certificate*
-original/certified copy of marriage certificate*
-original police certificate of beneficiary*

*If you're snail mailing the package, then also include a photocopy of each of these documents as well as the original/certified copy

If you do EP, then you need to bring the originals with you at the time of the interview for the consulate to verify.

If you haven't done so, I'd suggest reading the wiki I wrote for the NVC stage when it comes to online forms and EP. The link is in my signature.

And of course, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I'd be glad to help you :)
