IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSIF....So now what?

After 2 checklist letters, I'm finally done with the NVC. How long does it typically take to schedule an appointment. Also, how will I know when they have sent the paperwork to the embassy?

The time it takes for an interview date to be scheduled varies by consulate/embassy. Some people get their date the next date, others a few weeks, some months later. It all depends on how busy the consulate/embassy is. The day after (or shortly afterwards) your interview date is scheduled, NVC mails out your case to the consulate/embassy. The AVR will update within a few days on the date it was sent out. You can also confirm with an operator.

I sent it on Jun 16, NVC receivced on the 20th. I called NVC on Jul 6th and they said it was received on Jul 1 and to allow 4-6 weeks for processing. I called back later on and spoke with a rep and I was told that everything was complete. I haven't received an email or anything stating that is was closed.

You won't be getting a case complete email. Only those doing EP will get this email. The next, and last, email you're getting is of your interview date.

I think it depends on where the PC comes from. Nigeria's PC is only good for 90 days, then it expires. So I'm thinking we would have to get another before our interview as the PC for my hubby was obtained in May 2011, and expires end of July 2011. We have not received our interview date yet.

Yes, it does depend on where you get the PCC. The member was from Canada, as am I, so I replied in relation to Canadian validity.

And yes, you'll probably have to get another PCC so you have a valid one for the interview.

Saylin,

How long are they valid for? I had taken the PCC in March and my interview is on 31st Aug. Are they valid for 6 months?

Regards,

Sue

They're valid up to a year for immigration purposes. So, you're fine :)

Technically though, they become invalid the very next day as you can commit a crime the day after you get the police certificate Posted Image

As long as the police certificates you mailed to NVC are still valid at the time of your interview, then you don't need to get them again.

Hello guys,

I have a quick question:

I have my interview scheduled for IR1 at Montreal on 31st August. I have submitted following Original Police Clearance to NVC

1. Vancouver Police Clearance Certificate
2. Passport Police Clearance Certificate (Indian Consulate)

Do I need to get the above PCC's originals again for my interview?

Plz help!!

Regards,

Sue

If you didn't do EP and mailed them, then no, they have the originals and you're fine.
If you did do EP, then bring the originals with you to the interview as they want them.

Does my police record check need to be done through the RCMP or can it be done through my local police department?

It doesn't need to be by the RCMP. As long as it checks the CPIC, the national database, then NVC will accept it.

You won't receive any email/notice about your case complete. Only those doing EP get case complete emails.

As for your interview date, Ghana is extremely backlogged at the moment and it's about a year wait for an interview date.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC - DS230 Documents - Copies or Orignal

can you please clarify, if we (my wife and I) choose to pay and submitt payment online, I would still need my wife to send me certified copies of marriage certificate, birth certificate, and death certicate via snail mail?

As others have said, yes. Only a few select countries can do electronic processing and/or online forms. Russia is not one of those eligible countries. So, everything has to be snail mailed to NVC.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC - DS230 Documents - Copies or Orignal

When sending the supporting documents for DS230 such as Birth Certificate BC, Marriage Certificate MC, and Police Record PR, do I have to send the oriiginal or just copies?

The reason I am asking is that these are the only original copies I have. In Yemen, Marriage Certificates are not reissued/replaced. And athough getting a replaced official copy of the BC and PR is possible, it is complicated, lengthy, and tedious.

They have to either be the originals or certified copies. No photocopies allowed.

You'll get your birth and marriage certificate back at the interview.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-864 and DS-230 packets

We are working on getting the AOS and IV documents ready and have the following questions for those that sent these and have no issues:

1. I read somewhere that I-864 documents set needs to be stapled! Should this be stapled or use a clip!
2. DS-230 has original Birth & Marraige certificates, Can these be stapled or use a clip!
3. I don't think that the submission of DS-3032 has anything to do with the generation of AOS fee bill. Am I correct!
4. I guess except for Birth, Marraige and Police Clearance, all others can be just copies (like pay stubs and bank statements). What about the IRS Tax Transcripts!
5. Do we need to enclose a copy of the full set in addition to the full set! or just the copies of the originals being sent!
6. Did anyone send both sets together! Is it good to wait and send both together or send which ever is complete first!

1. Don't use staples. Use paperclips instead as it's easier for the reviewing officer to take apart your package if need be. Staples are a pain in the @$$ to remove.
2. Again, paperclip > staples.
3. You're right. DS-3032 is a part of the IV track. And the AOS and IV are separate tracks.
4. For the IV package, everything has to be an original or certified copy except for the bio-data page of the passport. That's obviously just a photocopy. For the AOS package, just send the original IRS transcripts. Why would you send copies? If you need another set, just order again from the IRS as they are free.
5. No photocopies needed for the AOS package. For the IV package, just include photocopies of the certificates (birth, marriage, etc).
6. Some people send the AOS and IV packages together, some send the first package that's ready. It's up to you. If you do send them together, make sure you clearly separate each package.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-130 APPROVED! Now, wait? or send forms?

My I-130 was approved about two wks ago. Do we wait for the NVC to generate & send forms, or should we fill out the form i-864 as found online & send it, or simply collect tax/sponsorship info? What's the next step? Thanks!

First you need to get a case number before you do anything like sending in forms.

And as you're from Canada, you're eligible for EP (electronic processing) and you're required to do the online forms. Because of this, I'd highly suggest reading the wiki I wrote (linked in my signature below) as it deals with both EP and the online forms during the NVC process for Canadians.

Last question...hehehe! Is it recommended to staple the I-864 FORM OR NOT? I only stapled my IRS, 2010,2009,2008, my past 3 months bank statements. Should i? It's says stapled on their website but I just want to make sure... http://travel.state..../info_3200.html

Thanks again!

I ALWAYS recommend using paperclips instead of staples. If the reviewing officer wants/needs to separate everything, it's a lot easier taking off a paperclip than removing a staple.

Thanks guys! Are you sure, I don't need to send W2? Coz when i called NVC rep. a few days ago. They told me that I need to send either 1044 form or irs transcript with W2...

The NVC rep is wrong. It's either:

-tax transcript

OR

-1040 and W2s

You can find this on both NVC's website and in the instructions for the I-864. From http://travel.state..../info_3200.html, number 4: IF you paid U.S. income taxes, you MUST submit a copy of the most recent federal income tax return with all supporting schedules and/or W-2s, or an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) transcript (even if the sponsor filed electronically).

The only time you'd send W2s with a tax transcript is if you filed jointly in previous years and need to show the separate incomes.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMailing I-864 today and need some questions.

Hello VJ's members. I hope someone can help me. I'm now ready to send my I-864 form and other supporting documents. Please let me know there's something missing that i need to add.

· I-864 Barcoded Cover sheet

· Form I-864 signed

· 2010 IRS Tax Transcripts and a copy of W2

· 2009 IRS Tax Transcripts and a copy of W2

· 2008 IRS Tax Transcripts and a copy of W2

· Letter of Employment

· Pay stub(s) from the most recent 5 months

· Letter from Bank for savings/checking and a copy of past 3 months bank statement

Are these good enough? Also, do i need to make another duplicate or photocopy of the whole documents when i mail it? Thanks again!

If you're sending IRS transcripts, do not send the W2s. All the information NVC wants/needs is on the tax transcripts. The only time you send the W2s is if you don't have tax transcripts and are sending 1040s instead OR if you jointly filed taxes and need to indicate your income on the transcripts.

And no, do not send a duplicate copy. You're being confused with the IV package in which you send photocopies (as well as originals/certified copies) of all the certificates (birth, marriage, etc). For the AOS package, you just need to send the one, original set.

Although not mandatory, it's always a good idea to include a cover letter. You can find an example one here: http://www.visajourn...29_Cover_Letter Just edit it so only what applies to you remains.

It was probably a bad idea sending both the DS-3032 by email and then doing the online DS-261. Hopefully NVC won't be confused with the 2 Choice of Agent forms for your case Posted Image

Thanks, though i've been using this site! We are supposed to do online application....

Is this the same site? I paid through this one.

I also have e-mailed the DS-3032 and also did the online version DS-230. Hopefully that won't confuse anyone!!

Thanks again...

The site you linked is where you do the online forms, although they have a section with bills that re-directs to the link I gave above. It's pretty much the same site, although those that aren't eligible for online forms really don't use the site you linked.

When you say you did the online version of the DS-230, do you mean DS-3032? It's not possible for you to fill out the online DS-230 until your IV bill appears as PAID.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresonline forms?
If your husband already sent the DS-3032, don't bother with the DS-261 as it's the same form, just sent online. In a few days, you should get an email in response accepting the DS-3032.

As for the DS-260 (online version of the DS-230) is only available to be filled out after the IV bill appears as PAID.

The email you just got is the initial information package that is emailed to everyone. Just ignore the DS-3032 that was included. It's for people that don't know about emailing the DS-3032.

As for the AOS, you have to log in here: https://ceac.state.g...ice/signon.aspx with your case number and IIN. This is the site where you will pay the AOS and IV bills.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR-1 / pregnancy question

I am a USC and my husband is Canadian. We've been married just over a year and started the CR-1 process using a lawyer last September. We just found out a few weeks ago that I'm pregnant and am now about 9 weeks along. We've had some hang-ups with missing paperwork (UGH) and are waiting on news from the NVC. Does my being pregnant effect anything? Has anyone been through a similar situation? The Lawyer said they may want me to meet a higher income requirement and we shouldn't mention it (I'm using my mother as a financial sponsor) but I was already approved financially months ago. The stress is killing us, just looking for some reassurance/guidance...

Being pregnant really won't affect your case at this point. If your child was already born, then yes, they would want you to have a higher income as you have another person in the household, but as you're still pregnant, you don't need to worry about that. Just stay relaxed and as stress-free as possible so your baby remains healthy :) Good luck!

Can you tell me what your total out of pocket expense was?

Krystal

Well, I didn't pay any of the forms, my husband did. All I paid for was my medical (~$230) and then moving expenses (~$800). But the total cost for everything will be as follows:

-$420 for the I-130 (although it was lower when we sent it last year)
-$88 for the AOS at the NVC stage
-$404 for the IV at the NVC stage
-$200+ for the medical in Canada (depends where you go and if you have all your vaccines done and documented)
Rough total: $1112

And then any costs to get documents. And if you have to travel to Montreal.

I wrote a blog post about costs to immigrate, found here: http://journeythroug...wn-on-fees.html

So basically what I've understood here is that he can't stay here until everything is done.

Where can I find approximate times on approval of the paperwork AFTER the i-130?

Here's an approximate timeframe for someone getting an IR-1/CR-1 visa in Canada:

-about 5 months for NOA2
-about 2 months in NVC (less if you're quick and don't get any RFEs)
-about 2 months from NVC completion to interview in Montreal
-about a week or two to get visa back in mail (although there's been a backlog recently and it's taking longer)

In total, from NOA1 to moving to the US: 9-10 months

Payements are only for I-846 and DS-230 but not DS-3230

*I-864, *DS-3032

And yes, I know that.

Are you making a barcode for the DS-3032? If so, why? You don't need one. You can quickly and easily email the DS-3032 following the template found here: http://www.visajourn...il_DS-3032_form No barcode needed. Just fill in your information in the body of an email message, and email that. No barcodes or forms needed.
SaylinFemaleCanada2011-07-26 14:36:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC Barcode Strip

After generating the barcode online and printing out the barcode page, how long should the barcode be and what should be the height. The DS3032 barcode area has a hight of .6 of an inch and the length is 9.25 of inches. Also should you leave the number at the bottom of the code.

Barcode for what? You don't need to generate your own barcodes anymore. This was done a few years ago when online payment wasn't an option and would help save time. But barcodes are generated as soon as a bill is paid, which is usually only a day or two now, compared to waiting weeks a few years ago.

Can I just submit the DS-260 online and mail in the supporting documents.

So confusing, right?

You have to understand something. There is a HUGE difference between electronic processing (EP) and online forms.

Electronic processing = emailing the AOS and IV packages
Online forms = completing the DS-261 and DS-260 online

Some countries are eligible for one or the other, or even both.

Peru is only eligible for online forms. You CANNOT email these packages, so you have to snail mail them.

Hi All! I'm new here and I need help.
We sent everything to NVC, the AOS, DS-230, Civil documents and proof of relationship. It's been a week now and still no confirmation from them that they received the documents. My USC husband called them but they are no help at all. They just told us to wait. This is our second time sending the AOS. The first time we did is incorrect we didn't include the barcode cover page. We waited for more than 20 days for that, if I didn't do some research we would have been waiting for nothing we woudn't know about the barcode cover page thingy.
What should we do? I'm afraid that we're wrong again. I just want to know that our package is safe with them. :(

Please remember, operators have no access to whether or not the packages have been received until an officer reviews your packages. And it usually takes 2-3 weeks for a package to be reviewed. If it's only been a week since you sent them, then you have another week or two before an operator can confirm having your packages.

That is what an operator told me when I tried to reason as to how my AOS paid on 7/26 is till in Process but my IV fee paid yesterday (7/28) is already PAID today (7/29). At least I can send DS-230 tomorrow morning and wait till Monday for AOS fee status. Strange but true - probably I will be select few that sends DS-230 packet before AOS packet.

I've actually seen a lot of people send the IV package before the AOS. Although in the cases I've seen, it's because they have it prepared first. Not because the IV bill appeared as PAID first, like in your case.

Hello VJ,

I've been reading conflicting NVC steps on VJ and other websites. So I'd like to hear from those who've undergone the NVC process or those who know about this. Thank you.

When you file your DS-230, does the petitioner (USC) need to send in his birth certificate to the NVC?

I am worried about this particular problem because I (the petitioner) don't have the original nor a certified birth certificate. Will this be needed later on down the road, i.e., consular interview?

Thank you all,

If you're filing an IR-1/CR-1 visa, then no, the petitioner's birth certificate isn't needed with the DS-230, only the beneficiary's.

Despite this, I'd highly suggest getting a certified copy of your birth certificate in case you ever need it in the future, not for immigration per se.

hello,
I received the AOS fee of $404. also the documents that need to be filled out. My question is do I first have to pay the fee and then send out the papers?

Um, AOS isn't $404.

AOS = $88
IV = $404

And you always have to pay the bill, wait for it to appear as PAID before submitting the corresponding package as you need to include the bar-coded cover sheet from the payment portal which only becomes available after it appears as PAID.

'Just a little confused about the bar code thing. I have read NVC Electronic Processing wiki and some others. Bar codes are NOT needed? Another question: I got my NOA2 on the 20th. 'Been calling the AVR. I'm getting concerned with the process. I have read were some have waited a month or more. But I have read that you need to be proactive with NVC. Less sitting and waiting. So do I need to get a hold of a human operator?

You have to send the bar-coded cover sheets regardless if you're doing EP or not.

Currently, there's a backlog at NVC where it's taking an usually long time to assigning case numbers. Despite this, you should still be calling an operator at least once a day and asking if a case number has been assigned as the AVR is usually a few days behind in updating.

I'd ask in the Mexico sub-forum about police certificates there. They'll obviously know more than I would.

And you have to make your own signature. There's not just one button to press and your timeline will appear. You write it yourself. To add: go to the top of the page, on the right, and next to your avatar, click 'Settings'. Then click on the 'Profile' tab and then the 'Change Signature' tab on the left. Then just enter your timeline and it'll appear as your signature :)

And as you said in the PM, yes, EP = Electronic Processing.
