IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAOS cover page email

Ok, thank you so much for you quick reply, Saylin! I was thinking that we should wait too, just to make sure :)

You could probably mail it now as you do have a bar-code, but if your money doesn't go through for whatever reason, then that'd be real bad.

I'm sure it will appear as PAID real soon, then you mail off the AOS package safely :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAOS cover page email

Maybe this is a silly question, but I'm confused :)

My husband and I received an email with the aos cover page attached to it right after he paid the aos fee.
Is this the cover page we send in with the i864 or do we have to wait for the invoice to show paid and then print the cover page from the online payment portal?

Thanks for any help :)

The bar-code you got in the email should be the same as the one that will be available on the payment portal. But I'd suggest waiting for the AOS bill to appear as PAID, just to make sure the money went through and was accepted.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCopy or Original Document?

hello, i would like to ask you and i know u will help me too.

we are also first marriage and we are still waiting our marriage contract which will gonna release on first week of Oct. then in filling i-130 i read that my husband need my our marriage contact and passport copy of mine and also my birthcertificate copy .

since we are newly wedd and im working outside my country my passport is still my single surname and iam planning to renew and chamge my status of it.
but my embassy consultate here were iam working now need a original marriage certificate and it will took probably of 1 a and half month to process it .

What my question is do i need to send also a original print out of my G325 with my signed to my husband or it is fine to send a copy of it with my signature through email ?

Sorry for a lot of question coz im new in this site and we are also planning to apply for a 1-130

Thank you

GOD Bless!

For the I-130, the beneficiary no longer needs to send their birth certificate and/or passport copy. Only the petitioner has to send this information. As the beneficiary, you only need to send a copy of your passport and original/certified copy of your birth certificate at the NVC stage for the IV package. So you don't need to worry about this now.

And yes, it has to be the original G-325A with your original signature that has to be sent to USCIS with the I-130 package. It can't be a copy.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresInterview date

Hey there all!

Just got a case complete from NVC.
I talked to operator and she said they werent able 'to schedule me' ... than to just wait untill I get any mail...

But well,, when will that be though?

Is there anything I can/may do to find out when I can be scheduled in Brussels??

Thanks for any replies!!

Blessings to all!

The only thing I can suggest is looking at other people's timelines who went through Brussels. Look at the date they got their case complete and the date they got their interview letter. That's what I did when I was waiting for an interview date. Determined that for Canadians it was usually 2 weeks.

Good luck and I hope you get the date soon.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIV Packet

I mailed the IV packet on Friday September 16. Expected delivery date was on Monday. I called NVC today and they said its still not in their system. They need 20 business days to review it, and I'm not sure if they've received the IV packet or not. is this normal? On average how long does it take for NVC to approve DS230?

Please note, they probably received it but it's sitting in the mail room. An operator won't see your package in the system until it's gotten to an officer and is being reviewed. Just keep calling every day until you hear the good news :)

Thank you for your reply, what information/forms do I need to bring with me to S.S office if I have to go there and apply?

You can find that info here: http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/

The letters SS stand for something that creates goosebumps on my skin.
Use SSN for social security number.

Does any body know how I apply for a social security number after arrival here in the U.S.? What are the steps?
Or will they just send it to me??

If you checked 'yes' on the DS-230 for the SSA to generate a SSN for you, then you might get it in the mail a few weeks after arriving. But be warned, a lot of people who checked off yes on the DS-230, don't end up getting it in the mail. For those people, it's suggested that 3 weeks after POE has passed (and no SSN has arrived), then go to a local SSA office and apply there. This is what I had to do. Three weeks passed and no SSN card, so I went to the SSA, applied, and 10 days later, I received my SSN in the mail.

Also I have been told by multiple operators my case is complete but the AVR is not updated yet. And also I see your signature that ur interview was scheduled in the 4th week, the operator told my they only assign interview dates in the 2nd week which is just more evidence telling me that the NVC operators have no idea what they are talking about!

Exactly ;) They're just reading a script Posted Image

And the AVR usually takes a few days to update to reflect the CC.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCase Complete
Remember folks, NVC schedules interviews ALL month long. It's not just the second week of each month for the next month. That's a LIE. If you want proof, look at my own signature. I was scheduled during the FOURTH week.

And having a SIF doesn't always mean CC, and the other way around too. Just cause you have a CC, doesn't mean you MUST have a SIF. But in most cases, it goes SIF then CC. If you can still sign in, don't be worried. If you heard from multiple operators and the AVR that your case is complete, that's all that matters!

And OP: I believe for the Philippines, it's about two months from the date of CC to interview date, so you should be getting your interview date scheduled within the next few weeks.

Yes Jakarta Indonesia is not a busy Embassy.
I was

If you want to get the best idea, then look at other members' timelines that are going/went through the same embassy, and see how long it took to get their interview date from case complete. This is what I did when I got a case complete and wanted to know the average time for Canadians to get their interview date scheduled.
SaylinFemaleCanada2011-09-23 21:32:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow Long?

So how long is the timeline on getting
interview Scheduled after NVC approves
your case?

It varies by country, depending how busy the consulate/embassy is. Some people get their interview date scheduled within a few days, others have to wait a few weeks for their interview date to be scheduled, then there's the poor folks that have to wait MONTHS for an interview date to be scheduled (Ghana, Cairo, etc).

And you can get the interview date anytime of the month. The operators will read from a script saying they only schedule during the second week, but that's a LIE.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC DS-260 Documents

Quick background: I am US Citizen. I am applying for my wife who is Canadian citizen. My case number starts with MTL.

I am planning to fill the online DS-260 form and I have few questions I could not find answers for:

1. The instructions don't mention how to mail in the required documents, especially the original ones. Am i missing something?

3. We already submitted photographs and our marriage certificate during the I-130 process. I just want to confirm that we still need to send them to NVC?

For your first question, it depends. Did you sign up for electronic processing (EP)? If you did, then you email the supporting documents, just like the AOS package. If you didn't sign up for EP, then you mail the IV package, just like the AOS package.

For question 2, yes, the beneficiary has to submit new passport pictures. As for the marriage certificate, yes, you have to submit it again.

Since your wife is Canadian, I'd suggest reading the wiki I have linked in my signature. It will help with the NVC process.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPolice Certificate - When is it needed?

So it's required to submit it? I read the guide and it only said it's part of the pre-interview package. I can't seem to find anything that we have to actually send the police certificate to the NVC along with the other forms like proof of support, etc.

Yes, a PCC is required at NVC. If you want proof, here's NVC's page about what documents to send in with the IV package: http://travel.state..../info_3195.html It's near the bottom.

Yup, exactly. So, for those living all the way in the west in BC, have to fly to Montreal for their interview. Even if they live right next to the Vancouver consulate. Montreal is the only consulate in Canada that handles spousal visas, so...

Thanks for the information.

I was amazed because in the instructions for I-864 it even says that the form will me mailed. My link

Oh well, got it figured out now.

Well, there's just the default I-864. There's not a special I-864 for only those doing EP. That's why you have to be informed :)

Montreal is the only consulate which does spousal visas, so it's not a question of IF, but WHEN the beneficiary travels to Montreal. You still have to do the DS-260, no matter where in Canada you live.

Posted Image

For IR-1/CR-1 applicants, the only consulate in Canada that does interviews is Montreal, exactly like CanadaLove said. It's only K-1 visa applicants that have two consulates (Vancouver and Montreal), and it depends where they live.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-864 & DS-230 Packages

Everywhere I've read that the Petitioner and Agent will receive I-864 & DS-230 "packages" after the IV bill is paid. It's in the "NVC Process Flowchart".

Today I called the NVC asking where our packages are and was informed that no package will be sent. We're supposed to just download the forms. There is no "package".

Is this accurate? Has anyone else had the same experience?

Thanks.

Like others have said, don't wait for NVC to send you forms. I never received any forms to fill out.

And as a Canadian, you do NOT fill out the DS-230. You're required to fill out the DS-260.

Please read the wiki I wrote that's linked in my signature. It talks about the NVC process for Canadians in relation to electronic processing and online forms.

If you have any questions after reading the wiki, I'd be glad to help!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC PROCEEDING

I called today NVC they are telling me they received the package 9/6/11 and still did not process it. I got my NOA2 on the 9/7/11. I don't understand the time frame

It doesn't matter when YOU got your NOA2. What's important is what the notice date is. That's when the petition was approved. Usually it takes a week to get the NOA2 in the mail, so your NOA2 date is probably the beginning of September or the end of August. Thus the timeframe makes sense for NVC to receive it on September 6th.

And remember, there's currently a backlog at NVC where it's taking about a month from NOA2 date to case number assigned.

Just keep calling every day to see if a case number has been assigned.

Hello Gary
I have been in the states for 3 weeks too - i got here on the 6th september. i haven't had my welcome to America letter yet and haven't had my green card or ssn either but was wondering how you saw your USCIS status as reading green card in production. Did you use your original USCIS case number? I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks and hope you are settling in well.

To track your green card progress, you use a new USCIS number that's included in the welcome letter/receipt notice.

And since it's been 3 weeks for you, get your butt to a local SSA office and apply for a SSN!

Hey Lindsey, it's Gary here (waves back!).

Yep, I think that's what we're going to do - I received my Welcome letter on Friday last, and my GC is in production according to the USCIS status. I managed to get through on the 'phone to our local SSA office, and they told me I was not yet showing on their database...though the girl didn't seem to understand my question, so I am not sure whether I am or not. I think I shall wait for the mail today - three weeks, and then go to Leesburg tomorrow with my ID stuff...I heard somewhere that ticking off the checkbox on the DS230 is only 62% accurate...ughh....I hope I don't end up with two SSN's!!

Where did they get 62% from? Posted Image

And don't worry about getting 2 SSNs. I've NEVER seen that happen here to anyone. You've waited the appropriate amount of time, so it's safe to go and apply. Just explain your situation (came on a US visa, etc) and they'll help you along. If for whatever reason there's a problem and can't apply for you at that time, they'll say something, so no worries about getting two.

Hey Lindsey

Another wave back lol (val here) Do you know if you were already on the SAVE data base when you went in ?

I don't know as I didn't ask. I just went in, explained that I had come on a US immigrant visa, was told to wait 3 weeks from POE for the SSN to arrive in the mail and if it didn't to go to a local SSA office and apply there. And the lady just started asking me questions. I'm guessing if there was a problem or she couldn't apply for me, then she would have said something.

My hubby Gary has been in the States for 3 weeks today. Should his social be here , like NOW....we checked on the I130 to get the social but we've read that sometimes this gets messed up and you need to go to the local SS branch. Does anyone know about this..what is the general time frame? Gary has gotten his welcome to America letter already.

Thanks for any help

Hi Val! *waves*

Here on VJ, it's suggested that after waiting 3 weeks from POE and the SSN doesn't arrive, then it's safe to go to a local SSA office and apply there. That's what I had to do. I waited three weeks for my SSN, but it never came in the mail, despite checking it off on the form. So, I brought my passport, birth certificate, and marriage certificate. The person there asked me a bunch of questions (instead of filling out a form, she just asked the questions and put them into her computer). Ten days later, my SSN arrived in the mail. So, I'd suggest going to the local SSA office either tomorrow or Friday!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCase Completed at NVC on Sept 22 but no SIF

Per AVR and also confirmed with operator, our case was completed last Thursday Sept 22 but for some reason I am still able to log into the payment portal. Is this normal? Anybody experiencing same thing? I spoke with operator and was told that they are waiting to schedule interview but looks like October is already full.. I am hoping that she is WRONG because I really wish the interview could be next month, plus there isn't a lot of movement at the Embassy in Paraguay and things usually run pretty quickly..

Don't worry about not having a SIF. As long as the AVR and operator have confirmed case complete, that's all that matters. Some people get the SIF, some others don't. Just don't worry about it.

And never listen to the operators when they say so-and-so month is full. They just start saying that like half-way through the previous month. So if someone were to call mid-way through October, practically all the operators will say November is full. They're just reading from a script. The only way you'd know for sure is if the operator actually took the time to CHECK if October is really full or not. Otherwise, just take what they say with a grain of salt.

Another question I have is, is the package sent to Embassy first and then we get interview date? or is it the other way around. I just went to the DHL for tracking and there is a package that went out to Paraguay on Monday and I don't even want to think that, that could be our package!!

NVC will schedule the interview date first, then either the next day or a few days later, they'll ship the case out. If you listen to the AVR or ask an operator, they'll tell you what date the case was shipped out.

So, unfortunately, your case isn't in that package you saw.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresConfused

So we just received an email format the NVC and i'm not quite sure I understand what they are saying.... I am hoping someone here can help us out :) . Here is what it says

Dear Sir/Madam:

Your inquiry has been received at the National Visa Center (NVC).

This petition is now eligible for further processing. The petitioner, principal applicant, and/or attorney of record will receive an instruction package regarding further processing of this petition.

We are unable to designate an agent to the case record at this time. Please continue to notify the NVC of any change in the petitioner's or principal applicant's address.

If a period of one year passes from the last date of contact with the NVC (by telephone, mail, or email), all submitted fees and documents will expire. If this occurs, your fees will need to be repaid and documents will need to be resubmitted in order to continue the immigration process.

So I was thinking that the first part was sounding good because we just received our case number and invoice number and I was hoping that it meant we could move forward, but the second part about the agent I don't know what that means. Is it possible that they are referring to the DS 3032 that we sent by email yesterday? I tried to see if we could pay the AOS fee but it is saying sign in failed. If anyone could help we would really appreciate it.

It looks like they rejected your DS-3032. Probably because it was sent in to early (NVC wasn't ready for it). So, just re-send it asap and it'll be accepted next time :)

And you should be able to log into the payment portal soon. Just keep trying.

When you log in, do you see a page similar to this: http://s128.photobuc...rent=part12.jpg ?

You should be able to see your information, plus info on the DHL branch you selected. If you can see all that, then you're fine!

I actually detailed all the steps I did for signing up for DHL, but as long as the DHL branch is appearing, then you should be fine.

And no, NVC doesn't care if you signed up for a DHL branch or not. As far as I knew, you couldn't even sign up for DHL until you had an interview date, but if you signed up, then maybe they changed it. Once you get your interview date, make sure you check the DHL site again to see if everything is still correct.

She's been doing some odd jobs, and selling something along the lines of Avon. I don't want to just put "Unemployed" on the form, because she's obviously making some money, which she may very well be asked about at the interview. I'm just looking for feedback on what I should put that is accurate, and at the same time won't raise too many red flags.

Thanks!

I was kind of in the same position as your wife. I was making some money here and there, mostly by selling stuff on Craigslist. But as I didn't really have a job, I put "unemployed" on the DS-230. I wasn't asked at all at the interview about my employment. But I don't know if it'll be the same at your wife's consulate/embassy. I'd say, put "unemployed" and if she does get asked about it, she can tell the truth; she's doing odd jobs but isn't employed full-time. NVC and the consulate/embassy really don't care what the beneficiary does when it comes to employment. It's more of what the petitioner does.
