IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-230

Is the DS-230 that we send to NVC,are they return it back before the interview?

They said that visa appointment letter is thru email only?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

No, after you send the DS-230 to NVC in the IV package, you won't ever get it back. You will see it once more at the interview, just to sign part 2 though. And you'll see it one final time at POE with an officer to double check important information.

If you give the petitioner and beneficiary's email to a NVC operator, then yes, the interview letter will be sent by email.

Oh, okay. What a weird "problem" to have!

Just to anyone else with the same problem: talk to an operator, they're quite helpful. Doesn't look like my case is at the NVC yet, though! :)

You should come join us at the March NVC thread: http://www.visajourn...ers-march-2012/

And you'll probably only get your case number assigned next week. But keep calling every day until you do get it Posted Image

Hi guys,

I just tried calling the NVC AVR (603 334-0700) and I got a English/Spanish choice, then got put on hold to speak to an operator. I don't want to speak to someone (for once!), I just want to enter my USCIS number and get a case number :(. Is that not possible anymore?

Don't worry, others are getting the same problem. One, who spoke with an operator, said that NVC is working on it and trying to fix it as soon as they can.

Can you just send an email for 3032 and not have to sign it in scan prior? Thanks in advance!

Like togetherforever suggested, please join the March NVC thread. The first two posts are EXTREMELY helpful Posted Image

There is no scanning of the DS-3032. If you follow the DS-3032 email template (linked in the first post of said thread), then you would know you would simply email them.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAm a little lost... Paid the affidavit of support fee, and the IV fee .... how do i file electronically?

We paid the Affidavit of support fee and a few days ago paid the IV fee, now i have been waiting for something from them telling me what to do. I havent gotten anything, i went back and looked at the receipt they mailed me and it was saying.

now... this is our case number AMM201251****

so i am pretty sure we will file it online.

the link they give me on the pdf is not working, and i dont know where to go.

and i need to know... if i am going to be filing online, will i be sending them also the actual documents, or will they ask my husband to bring them with him to the interview .
he is in Amman , Jordan waiting.

will i need his police report? or he will show them in the interview???

he has it already from jordan.

also he was in the army in egypt when was a young man. he has his army id card they gave him to keep since he served. will that be enough as far as the army records they will ask for about him?? He is not in egypt and we are waiting over 2 months now just for egyptian embassy in jordan to give him his police record from egypt. They told him one month and he has gone a bunch of times and they keep say mail is delayed and keep check back. :( thank god were doing this before they ask for it or we would be in trouble. lol If we need something else from them i am afraid how long it will take.

will that army card from egypt with his picture be enough?

please any help will be appreciated.

my info.
im the wife usa citizen (in usa)

have 4 yr old twins

and IV filing fees.
both show paid.

For Jordan cases, you're only eligible for online forms, not electronic processing.

The link to fill in the DS-260 (online form) can be found here: https://ceac.state.gov/IV/Default.aspx Log in with your case number and IIN. You'll also need to know your BIN which you should have either gotten from an operator and/or been included in the first email you got from NVC.

Like I said, since you're ineligible for electronic processing, you'll have to MAIL in your packages. I'd suggest sending in your AOS package asap as the bill shows as paid. Join the March thread that togetherforever has suggested and you will find in the second post a FAQ with which you can see what the required documents are for the AOS package.

As for the IV package, you're going to have to wait until the police certificate is obtained from Egypt. All I can tell you is that because you waited so long to get it, you're going to cause delays at NVC. I made sure to get my own police certificate before my husband's I-130 petition was even approved. Obviously, obtaining a police report in Egypt is clearly much harder than in Canada, so your husband should have been trying to get it months ago. But, that's in the past and there's nothing much you can do at this point except to continue contacting them to see where the police report is in the process.

As to your army question, I don't think his army ID will be sufficient. According to NVC's site (http://travel.state....ilitary_records) military records are needed. And if he served in the Egyptian army, then here are the specifics for Egyptian military records: http://travel.state....l?cid=9166#docs (scroll down a bit to 'military records').

If you have any questions, either post here or in the March NVC thread. Good luck.

the process you will do is exactly the same for Montreal (MTL) and Mexico Electronic Processing (MEP) casefiles.

The caveat?
1. have latest adobe acrobat installed on your computer
2. use Internet Explorer v8 as yer browser.
Otherwise you can't do things consistently.

Find Saylin's wiki page for EP Canada in the wiki section - she's outlined exactly what to do, how to do, when to do.

and - stop freaking out.. ;)

some answers to yer questions:

1. nvc does intake on all documents - so that police report? you'll send in a scan to NVC via email along with the rest of his civil documents
2. must to show originals/certified copies of anything submitted to NVC electronically, on interview day back at the IV Unit in Jordan.

Hey Darnell, according to this page: http://travel.state..../info_5165.html Jordan applicants are only eligible to do online forms, not electronic processing as well.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-130 package - why are copies needed?

from my understanding you need extra copies of the I-130 application you sent in to the USCIS.

why?

now if your application gets lost in the mail or if the USCIS looses some of your paperwork I can see why having a copy is good to have... but will these extra copies be mandatory at any time?

It's for your own records. No, it shouldn't be mandatory, but it's always a good idea to have a copy of anything you submit (especially to government departments!).

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresquestion about DS-230 form

i am going to chime in with a question of my own :)
for the supporting documents - if they are in native language of the country - do we need to also send translated photocopies ASWELL as the originals? I am talking about the National ID card - its in Urdu - do i need to have it translated to english and attach that to the original?

NVC's website states:

"All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations and submitted to the NVC. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the:

-Translation is accurate, and

-Translator is competent to translate."

Despite this, I have seen cases of people getting checklists for not having translations of non-English documents. I'd suggest you get everything translated anyways to be on the safe side.

Although, I have to ask, why are you submitting a National ID card? Is it required for that country?

excuse me, it is said that we completed part 2 of this form, but UNSIGNED. do i have to mail it along with the part 1? i heard that we will sign it in front of the CO @ the embassy?? how could i sign if i send it to NVC? or the embassy will give it to me once i get there for interview? or how?

You complete part 2 (along with part 1). But unlike part 1, you do NOT sign nor date it. It is sent to NVC with part 1 as there are questions on part 2 that have to be reviewed by NVC. Then, at the time of the interview, the officer will return it to you so you can sign and date it.

P.S I feel really stupid for asking these questions...but i better ask than sit here and wonder.

First off, the package would be sent to NVC, not USCIS.

And secondly, you have two options: you either mail the package directly to NVC or you mail it to your husband and then he mails it to NVC.

Yes, you can still send the documents to NVC yourself. Just because you appointed your husband as agent does NOT mean he is the only one allowed to send documents.

In my case, I appointed my husband as agent, but I was the one that sent BOTH packages to NVC. There were zero problems.

As long as NVC receives the packages, they don't care from where they were sent or whom.

Awesome, just what I wanted to hear. So now if the NVC would just accept my AOS payment things could get moving....

Yup, as soon as bills are invoiced/paid/accepted, things go relatively fast at NVC (if you have the AOS and IV packages ready to go).

And thanks. Almost a year I've been in the US now Posted Image

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresunable to pay AOS fee online, why?

Saylin, oh I think I misunderstood when you said we'd have 3 months after the interview, I was assuming it took 3 months after the interview for the visa to go through. But you seem to be suggesting that we can be approved right at the time of the interview and be eligible to enter the US right away?
Thank you!

BTW kudos to you for making it through a 27-hour drive!!

Yes, I meant you had 3 months from your interview until September to move, not that it takes 3 months afterwards. Most people receive their visa within a week or so after the interview date (as long as it was approved of course). And then most visas are valid for 6 months, so you'll have until the end of the year to use your visa. So, yes, when you do get your visa after the interview, you can enter the US as soon as you want. I entered 6 days after mine. It would have been sooner, but I had reserved a rental car for a specific date, and didn't really have a choice.

And thanks. It was a LONG drive, especially by myself, but it was worth it ;) Plus, I LOVE driving and road trips, so I had a blast :D
SaylinFemaleCanada2012-03-20 10:39:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresunable to pay AOS fee online, why?

Thanks Saylin. And wow, it looks like even best case scenario is getting the visa at the last minute before we move... looks like I'm going to be stressing out for the next 5 months nonstop. But anyway, I really appreciate all of your helpful info on the forum!

P.S. Just wondering—when you say it takes about a week for the DS-3032 to be accepted, does this include email submissions? I used the template I found on the Wiki here to send by email yesterday.

Well, it won't be LAST MINUTE to move. You should have about 2 months before school starts. But if you have a full-time job and house to worry about, then yeah, I guess it might be stressful. I had no job and lived with my dad, so as soon as I got my visa, I moved a few days later. The only thing I had to stress about was driving for 27 hours and having enough money to pay for the rental car, gas, hotels, and food Posted Image

And for the time frame, it's for email submissions. I don't know of anyone who MAILED the DS-3032 in recently as the email submission is easier, completely free, and faster. I'd expect that'd add another week or so for snail mailing it in.
SaylinFemaleCanada2012-03-20 09:30:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresunable to pay AOS fee online, why?
Current wait times for the DS-3032 to be accepted are around a week.

If you go to the March NVC thread: http://www.visajourn...ers-march-2012/ you'll find the two first posts very helpful (I wrote them Posted Image). But lately, in March, it's been taking over a week for the DS-3032 acceptance, compared to just a few days it used to take in February. I'm hoping they pick up as there are a few March filers still waiting, like you, for their DS-3032 to be accepted.

And I assure you, as long as you have all packages PERFECT, and have no problems at the interview, then you WILL be here for September. If you're on top of things at NVC, then you can done with them in a month or two. And for the wait time from case complete at NVC to the actual interview date is 2 months for France (there was a recent member in the NVC thread in which I'm taking this time frame). So, if you can finish by the end of March or sometime in April for NVC, you'll have your interview in the summer, around June. If approved at the interview, you'll have about 3 months before September hits when school starts.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresunable to pay AOS fee online, why?

Hello everyone. I have a couple questions I hope you can help me with! My husband and I (he's French, I'm American) were married in Paris in 1999 and have been living in Paris ever since. We have 2 children. We are relocating to NYC in September (must move in time for kids to start school) and I filed an I-130 in January. I was told the entire process takes 6-12 months. We recently received a DS-3032 form and an AOS Fee Bill invoice. I sent an email to the NVC with my address (I will be my own agent) so I assume I don't also need to send in the DS-3032, correct?

Second question: when I went to the website to pay the AOS fee (I do have a US bank account I was going to use), after entering our case number and invoice DS number, I got the message: "This case is in the process of termination. Fee payments and online forms can no longer be accepted. If you believe you have received this message in error, or to resume processing of the case, please contact the NVC immediately." I called the NVC and the agent actually told me that the invoice hadn't been issued yet. I explained that I had the invoice in front of me and it was dated February 27, 2012. I was told that I had to either wait to receive another invoice, or to send a money order for the fee. I have no way of obtaining a money order in US dollars from France, so this is not an option.

Help—has anyone experienced this? What I can't understand is why the error message says the case is in the process of termination! Is their system really buggy or something? I'm so worried that we won't have the visa in time to move to the US at the beginning of September and not being able to pay the AOS fee for who knows how long is only delaying things :(

I'm betting that message is appearing because NVC is invoicing the IV bill. Don't worry about WHAT the message says (your case really isn't in the process of termination!) Just give it a day or two, and then you should be able to log in again. Once you can, I'm betting the IV bill will be invoiced and ready for you to pay Posted Image

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow long from NOA2 to Interivew??

My wife is a Pakistani citizen, she has been a canadian PR for only 2 years.

That shouldn't put you into AP for long, if you even get put into AP. I had a friend who was in Canada for a work visa, a citizen of Argentina I believe, and if I remember correctly, wasn't put into AP at all. If anything, they'll just run a namecheck. Nothing as intensive as AP in Middle Eastern and North African countries.

Oh this is discouraging. I didn't want this leg to also take 5 months. I am so badly waiting for my NOA2 and it just keep on getting delayed. I was hoping to just breeze through with electronic processing and have interview scheduled within 3 months of getting to NVC. Lets see how long this whole process takes. I am dreading AP after the interview also.

If you have all the packages ready to go (and absolutely perfect, so you don't get checklists), it won't take 5 months from NOA2 to interview. You can get through NVC in about a month if you're prepared. And like I said before, it's only 2 months from case complete at NVC to interview at Montreal.

Are you expecting AP? Why?

Either the petitioner or beneficiary can call; it doesn't matter. I was the beneficiary and I was the ONLY that called about our case. My husband, the petitioner, had a full-time job and had no time to call.

If you call and talk with an operator at NVC, they'll be able to tell you when they received your case from USCIS.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVery worried now

Hello VJ family!

I am very worried, really need your help with it.

I am currently at NVC and when I received the emails from them with the case #s (it's me plus my two kids going throug the I-130), mine was at the CR-1 category, because I haven't been married for over 2 years, but theirs, both of them are on IR-2. I thought they should be on CR-2, right? They are 8 and 5 years old.

Could it be that NVC made a mistake with it? If so, will this delay our approval? :help:

Just call up NVC and inquire about this. They might have thought that your children are also the children of your husband, in which case it would be an IR-2 visa. But if they're not biologically his, then I believe it should be a CR-2 visa.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSocial Security Number

Did you also check the tick box in the DS-230 applying for a SSN? Wouldn't it complicate if I go to the SSA office and I also applied for the SSN prior arriving in US?

Yes, I ticked it off on the IV application for a SSN to be assigned to me, but after 3 weeks from POE, nothing arrived in the mail.

No, it wouldn't complicate things, as long as you wait awhile, giving them a chance to mail it to you. If you go the day after you do POE after checking it off on the IV application, then you're going to run a risk of getting two SSNs (or them not even allowing you to apply). But 3 weeks is the general time frame where there's a very very low risk of getting two numbers. I personally haven't seen anyone here on VJ that got two SSNs after waiting at least 3 weeks before going to apply.

You'll be fine. Who knows, you might even get it in the mail and not even have to worry about this.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSocial Security Number

Hello everyone,

What is the average waiting time for the release of Social Security Number? It says in my immigrant visa packet, 3 weeks. But it's been a month now and haven't received anything from DHS. I tried calling the office today but it's so difficult to get a hold of a "live" operator. So yeah, based on your experience, how long does it usually take before I start to panic?

It's suggested here on VJ that after 3 weeks from POE and not receiving the SSN, then go and apply at the local SSA office.

That's what I had to do. I waited three weeks from my POE but nothing except my green card arrived. So, the next day (after 3 weeks), I went to the SSA office in town and applied. Received the SSN exactly 10 days later.

Don't listen to the operators on that part. It's a big LIE! If you want proof, go back a few pages where a couple were scheduled interviews this last week. And I'm proof of that as well. My interview date was scheduled during the FOURTH week. Trust me, I'm right!

I am in the same situation - can still sign on but got the CC email and I even called to confirm - it was completed on the 26th. So now waiting for the interview date - I am REALLY hoping for November. NVC operator stated they only book interviews for the second week of each month - so that's pretty limiting for spots. Fingers crossed for us all.. and will hopefully see you all in chilly Montreal! (The anger of having to fly across the worlds 2nd largest country is starting to go away with the excitement)

Please remember they schedule interviews ALL month long, not just the second week.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCase Complete?

You should not need to wait that long to get appointment time. Canada is electronic processing country, same as China. My case was completed on Sep. 28 (document complete acknowledge email was Sep. 26) and On Sep. 29 I got the consular appointment letter already by email.

It doesn't matter if you do EP or not for Canada. What matters is how backlogged the consulate/embassy is. For Canada, it's about 2 months from case complete to interview date. And usually getting the interview date within 2 weeks.

Don't worry about the SIF. You got the case complete email and that's all that matters ;)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCase Complete?

Hey guys 'n gals!

Got back up and running and got all the paperwork put in etc for the NVC IV packet and after a few days on Sept 22nd we recieved this email:

It's been about 10 days, but I can still log into this site:
https://ceac.state.g...px?signout=true

Is that the place I check for the SIF? If so, I can still sign in! Is it normal it takes about 2 weeks after they send an email like this?

Just getting impatient perhaps, but everythings finally moving again and it's all I can think about! hehe

Also, anyone have any ideas when our interview will be in Montreal? I'm thinking maybe November??

Grats! That's the CC email! Posted Image

And nope, wrong site for SIF. It's: https://ceac.state.g...ice/signon.aspx

And it's usually two months from CC to interview in Montreal, so November is definitely a good guess. Good luck and hope you get your interview date scheduled soon!

On a related note, is there any reason to bring all new signed originals of the I-864 and tax transcripts to the interview (on top of the photocopy of what was sent to NVC), especially when nothing has changed between filing with NVC and the interview?

If nothing has changed (no new job, didn't move), then no, you don't need a new I-864 or anything. But do bring a copy of the one you sent to NVC with you to the interview.
