CaribbeanHas any Jamaican's received their Passports within the last month.

I've been keeping track of the most recent approvals timelines and one that got approved June 16 got their visa in 4 days. I sent the member and email asking what their secret was and have yet to get a response.

Praying everyone gets theirs soon as my fiance's interview coming up in 30 days and hoping he gets his visa by the end of Aug, first of Sept.

I spoke with the manager of the company I used to fill out my documents and he said it doesn't take a lot of time to print a visa so he doesn't understand what the hold up is for Jamaica.

You're right! They don't actually read the whole message and answer every question in an email. What I did one day, is section it off. I explained in the beginning that I keep sending emails and not getting answers. Then I numbered each question. Although I don't recall getting the exact answer for each question, I got a much better response than previous emails

This is crazy, so I dont know why the embassy is calling him telling him that when its printed to bring Identification to the embassy itself when there are pick up locations....That makes my husband and I look crazy.... So the conclusion to this whole thing is they can work at their pace, keep calling my husband and saying his visa will be printed and available..... OK HUMBLE PIE TIME

I definitely feel your frustration. I wish I could be of some help. They definitely don't make getting a visa in Jamaica easy. It's unfortunate that most of trust promises made by others. Had your husband known the struggles, he could have asked the rep for a number to call back or even asked if he could come pick it up Thursday and what's a good time to be there?

I hope we aren't caught in a similar situation. Keep us all posted

Was hoping to know if anyone else in Jamaica were going through the same thing. I applied for courier service a month before the interview, after the interview the ceac status said A.P. then ISSUED. Myhusband got a call from the embassy, private # and the rep asked where should the passport be sent? What is csc for then? After my husband status remained ready, no waybill #. The 703 and 876 # to check the status of your visa have no info. I email kingston and they email me a week and a half later saying its in A.P.?!?! SO I CHECK THE CEAC SITE AND IT GOES BACK TO READY.... My husband gets a call this week saying he can pick up his visa this thursday from the embassy after its printed on Wednesday..... the rep said he will call back on Thursday....its saturday,....no call no info.... I dont know what to do, I keep calling the embassy uscis nvc the 703, 876 visa line and dhl nothing ??????????

Happy early birthday. Too bad, I will miss you by a couple days. I will be out there for 13 days. Got lucky that he got the interview during the time I will be there. I will be waiting with his family, as they don't live too far from the embassy.

Yep you got it!!!!

Are you saying that you arrive in Jamaica on July 22, and leave on July 30?

They don't mail the police certificate. After you drop off the receipt, you have to return after the amount of days you pay for to pick it up. Get the non impediment form at Registrars General office.

Kween, I will be in Jamaica Aug 1, will you still be there? Where in Jamaica will you be?

You still have some time left. The embassy sends packet 4 at least a month prior to the interview. Packet 4 contains the interview letter and a list of documents required for the interview, such as, police certificate, non impediment form, medical etc. The medical office requires that you have your interview date in order to provide you with an appt.

He can't get his police record without a passport but you can get a passport in a day, it cost about $8000jmd. He won't get denied for not having certain documents. His approval would only be put on hold until you can submit all the required documents.

I hope this helps

Caribbeancell phones at medical OK?

Most of them are regular Dr's offices, not part of the embassy, so it's likely a cell phone is ok. In Jamaica, myself and my fiance had our cell phones no problem

sheldonsgirlFemaleJamaica2014-08-20 22:25:00
Caribbeanhow many hours should one expect to spend for medical!

The embassy schedules it for the beneficiary?

That information is incorrect. Once you receive packet 4 by mail or email and have interview letter with the date of the interview, you have to contact the medical office and make the appt for at least 10 days to 2 weeks prior to you interview

Same exact thing we went through in May Pen.  Maybe Kingston is more efficient.  We spent hours at the police station that day.

Sorry you had to go through that. We didn't spend much time at the police station, just that twice they didn't have it when they should have

The only option I have ever heard of is next day. You have to go to the tax office first to pay for it. Then you take the receipt to Kingston or Mobay. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee. We had plenty of time so we opted for 21 day. He went back in 21 days and they didn't have it. We went back 5 days later, and they still didn't have it. Luckily we did get it the day before the interview.

Just be prepared. Hope it helps and good luck

CaribbeanHow long from NOA2 to interview in Kingston JA

Is it possible for them to email both of us with any updates? My guy is not always able to get internet access.

When you register for DHL, just put your email address. I've heard sometimes they call so you would obviously want to give them his number. Plus you'll have a log in to check DHL

CaribbeanHow long from NOA2 to interview in Kingston JA

Either way you have to register with DHL, but unless they recently changed it, you had the option of either picking it up at the DHL office in Montego Bay or Kingston. I noticed the people picking it up at the Kingston office seemed to get theirs within a few days of the interview and the people who registered to pick it up in Montego Bay got it within 2-3 weeks.

One of my VJer friends chose pick up Mobay, visa issued on a Thurs and the following Wed it was ready for pick up.

CaribbeanHow long from NOA2 to interview in Kingston JA

He lives in Kingston so thats what he would do instead of mail

They never gave us the option to pick it up from the embassy. In fact, I've emailed them requesting that option and all they did was email back stating that we needed to be registered with DHL I do hope that once it's issued, they allow us to pick it up and DHL is just a formality.

To answer one of your other questions as to when you'll receive the approval is typically the consular will approve your fiance at the interview, unless there's a document missing or any other reason for a refusal. Then as another said, it can take 2-3 but all cases are different. If you're fiance has his interview by early Nov, it is possible he'll be there by Christmas

They won't tell you anything. We had ours on 8/8 with a 221g temporary refusal because we didn't have our medical packet. They acknowledged receipt on 8/15. We finally went to ready 9/24. They are no longer responding to any of my emails and even my congressman sent them a letter 2 weeks ago with a follow up a week ago and no response. Best of luck to you. I hope we are both getting ours this week. A few others that had their interview same day as us and same day as yours have their visas already

CaribbeanJamaica Medical Cost?

Thanks sheldonsgirl! I definitely need 2 be prepared for all of these costs. Seems like it's one fee after another! It will be worth it in the end!! Can't wait til hubby can finally get here!!

You're welcome! Wanted you to also be prepared for the time frames and inconveniences of getting the documents. Nothing like the states where we pay for it online and print from our own computer or go to the location and receive the document the same day. A lot of going here, then there etc etc

sheldonsgirlFemaleJamaica2014-09-22 08:05:00
CaribbeanJamaica Medical Cost?

It's $120 for the medical, whether it's Kingston or Montego Bay. As everyone else is saying, all depends on how many, if any immunizations your fiance needs. The first time my fiance went last year it was $120 for the medical, $180 for the immunization, plus $30 for a drug test. This year, it was $150 for just the medical and drug test.

What you may also want to know is the different prices for the police record for the amount of time you choose to get it back. Something I wasn't aware of initially. $85 for 3 working days, $60 for 7 days, and $30 for 21 days.

The non impediment form is $75

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview letter

I emailed the DS230 to the Kingston Embassy and received an email back last Tuesday Aug 12. I've included a copy of exactly what it stated

Dear sir/madam,

We have received the attached document. An appointment will be scheduled and a letter will be sent in the mail. You may email us in a few weeks, and if an appointment has been scheduled a copy of the letter may be emailed.

Regards

I am in Negril with my fiancé now and wondering an approximation as to when we can expect the letter? His mail is delivered to the post office and a bit frustrating to have to keep checking everyday.

The medical center will ask you when you're appointment is so they can schedule your appointment according to when your interview is. It isn't likely they will allow you to get the appointment without the letter but, you can try

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical at Mobay Hope

My fiance had his medical Sept 3 at Medical Associates Hospital for Dr Michael Banbury in Kingston. They told him the exam would cost $120 but bring $300 in case he needs any immunizations. He had his original immunization record from when he was a baby. They told him he needed 4 immunizations and charged an additional $160. $40 per immunization? Has anyone heard of this? There was even some other additional thing they charged him for and he even had to go to the bank and pull a little more money out to pay them. So they got the whole $300. Frustrating they say upfront how much to bring and since they know you have it, they find ways to take it all. I'm happy for those who didn't have such a negative experience.

By the way, congrats VJ on your upcoming interview and best of luck as well

Woops! I congratulated VJ and it's Our Destiny that I meant to congratulate

My fiance has his imunization records from when he was a baby but here in Jamaica they don't require as many as the U.S. What additional shots do you suppose may be required? What is the name of the clinic in Hanover, and which shots would you recommend, or does the clinic in Hanover know which ones?

Thanks for the congrats

I apologize I don't have an answer to your question as we aren't at that point yet but I am wondering if you can answer mine. The embassy received our DS230 last Tuesday Aug 12 and stated they would send a letter when an appt is set. When can we expect the letter, as it should be anytime now?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhy does Kingston take so long?

I check your timeline everyday so I totally understand what you're going through. Please be sure to post the date they call to let you know you can pick it up. My fiance interview is coming up next Tues Sept 17 and I would like to have an idea when to expect it as well. I've looked at other timelines and the soonest I've seen in recent is 10 days but most of them are longer than that. I pray for you an expedited delivery

I can hardly believe you're still waiting. It's frustrating when you have no control over your own destiny, it's in the hands of someone else who obviously cares nothing about the fact that you have already been waiting nearly a year, while they go home every night to their loved one

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIs anyone else stuck in "ready" status? Jamaica

Well that's what i saw in another thread from another VJer's post as to the sequence.  It wasn't a Jamaica thread so who knows!  I'm quite a bit behind you all in this wonderful process so I probably shouldn't comment or repeat things i hear (see).  I'm learning alot from you ladies.  It helps alot to know what to do and expect!  I just hope you all get your men here soon!!  Being apart sucks!!

I don't have a problem with you repeating what you read. In fact, when you commented, you commented in a question fashion. You didn't state as its a fact. My point in using your example is how unsystematic they are. If they were systematic, a lot of the process wouldn't keep so many in the dark

sheldonsgirlFemaleJamaica2014-09-26 14:45:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIs anyone else stuck in "ready" status? Jamaica

At least its doing something.

I can't disagree but after receiving and email from them last Fri that stated they would send off the visa once we're registered implies they have the visa. They are so all over the place. Reminds me of the email where they stated they're systematic. All of us VJers know that's a crock. Seems they change up their system all the time or it would be figured out by now. Due to the fact they have no system, we're always out here wondering. Nocreepers went into ready status less than a week after her interview and stayed that way until 10 Sept to AP with issue 11 Sept. LionessDeon stated it's AP-ready-AP then issue. So just by those two examples, along with mine, nothing systematic about it at all.

Very much.

Im laughing so hard at the "ageing 50 years" lol. OMG, I swear I felt the same way!

Then you can imagine how I'm feeling, considering our interview was same day as yours? Had we got our visa a week later, I wouldn't be so aggravated because it would make a timeline sense because our medical was received a week later.

Remember, too, we also have waited an extra year because of the refusal last year? About the time they're going to issue the visa, all the current employees will need to retire and the process will start over because the new employees won't know what's going on

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIs anyone else stuck in "ready" status? Jamaica

I had emailed them from my fiance's acct Wed and from my acct Wed. On Fri I got a response from my acct saying they would send off the visa once registered with DHL. We have been registered with DHL from a year ago and never told us we had to re register when the system changed. All I knew is I was having a tough time figuring out how to create a new acct Fri afternoon. Finally got it all sorted out and come Mon, we also got an update date change but still no status change from refused. Later that same morning I get a response from my fiance's email stating it's still in AP. WTHEEE????? What's the email that says the visa will be sent off once we're registered? These people are so disorganized. One dep doesn't communicate with the other, and seriously who knows if they have monkeys replying to emails??? Actually, I think it's an insult to monkeys to claim they are the result of misinformation via emails. All we can do is wait but I sure would like to get the visa "while we're young!"
