CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview

Thats what I thought too. But we have already done my husbands medical, back in August the reason being is at the time we thought it only took 3 months to get appointment so we figured get it done....maybe if someone from Montreal actually reads these posts then they know that already so they know we don't need all that much time. I am a little worried about not getting an email regarding his appointmet. I emailed them last monday and havent had a reply in regards to that either. So who knows the method behing the madness. I gave up trying to figure it out. Now Im just going with the flow. Its actually to our benefit that the medical is done because we don't have to worry about driving to Toronto in winter but... We are driving to Montreal!!!!!!!!! YUK

I know it doesn't help much now, but apparently, its been pretty nice in Montreal lately. my hubby is there visiting family. He said its nice in Montreal.... and its NEVER nice here in winter! I was there over the New Year holiday and even though it snowed for 3 days straight, the roads were still passable.

HHmmm......I see Canam is bringing wedding pics. Anyone heard of a married couple with a child being asked for evidence for marriage? like pics, etc...

I'm bringing a few wedding pics to show that there was a ceremony incase they ask. The rest of the pica are just from random visits . I feel like I should have more than little. That probably won't even ask to see them. But u never know.

Yeah no harm in bringing them. At least then you've got them if they ask....think I'll do the same....better safe than sorry

I'm wondering if it matters if pictures are printed on photo paper or if its ok if they are printed on regular paper. The pics I submitted with the I-130 were just two pictures on each sheet of regular 8 1/2 X 11 paper from a color printer. I was hoping to save money and use those for the interview.

I was going through the photocopies of my paperwork(s) Ive submitted and I was looking at my criminal record search. Turns out I had only had the search done for my maiden name (which is what is on my passport and all ID's) but not for my married name (which is on the Visa application as well). So I went and got ANOTHER criminal check done JUST IN CASE. So Im hoping this covers everything. I just went to the local police station and it says it searches the National Repository for Criminal Records in Canada.

Can someone tell me if I'm ok for the criminal check now?

Also, I lived at a different address for about 2 years (within the same province) during school. Do I have to get a check from that municipality as well?

I think as long as it is Canada-wide you are fine. My husbands form says

"THIS CRIMINAL INFORMATION REQUEST PROVIDES RECORDS OF CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS, AS THE RECORDS EXIST ON THE CANADIAN POLICE INFORMATION CENTRE (CPIC). PLEASE NOTE THAT CONVICTIONS CAN TAKE 12-18 MONTHS TO BE REGISTERED ON THIS DATABASE."

I hope that's what they need... It took almost a month to come in... Stupid Durham Regional Police.... whistling.gif

Hey Redmen99...
who knows, right? I'm basically thinking it'll be January for us. WOOHOOO! Nothing better than moving in the dead of winter or trying to travel to really awesome, snowy places like Montreal and such. wink.gif

Well, it is what it is, right?
Good luck to you all and we'll keep each other posted, k?
biggrin.gif
PS, looking back at 2008, I see that a whole PILE of interviews were scheduled in December... all the way til the 18th so...
Just looking for signs of hope, people!

January would work! He has family in Montreal, so that part is not a problem, but the darn snow they have there! We spent the last two new years holidays there and it was so cold that my shoes literally fell apart on New Years Eve last year. When we left the party, I had no soles on my shoes. Thankfully we were able to catch a cab back to the hotel as there was no way I could have walked back with all the snow on the ground.

The good news though, is that after approved, he has six months to get down here, so he can hopefully pick a weekend with no lake effect snow driving through upstate NY.

Now the NVC just needs to get a move on and let me electronically file my paperwork. whistling.gif

Good luck to all! good.gif

Man, it's just our luck that the waiting times have jumped up SO drastically.

Hey, does anyone know if they schedule interviews over Christmas/December? I'm afraid that this backlog was caused by Summer breaks (I really don't know) and I wonder if the same thing'll happen with Xmas breaks and such... .

Thanks all...
biggrin.gif

OH yeah and could all you guys how got interviews fill in the table? That'd be really helpful as a visual...
:}

I'm wondering this too. Didn't they take December off last year?

I'm very happy they are scheduling November interview dates. My biggest fear after getting our NOA2 so fast is that we would be scheduled for an interview while we are in the Dominican renewing our vows at the end of November and into December. Thanks NVC for being so far behind! blink.gif mad.gif

I thought that stamp in your passport worked as a temp Green Card until the REAL one arrived??????? Can anyone clarrify???

Correct. The stamp in your passport is your temp Green Card and its good for a year. However, you can't work in the states until you have a Social Security number as your employer needs that number for tax purposes.

hey redmen:did u also advise them that the compliance letter should indicate whether or not ur call has a recall...there is no check mark for that on the form...I own mazda too..will be sending the form shortly...

I didn't see anywhere that recall info is needed to Import your car. It is my understanding that it is only needed if you are Importing a car into Canada, not into the US although some manufacturers send both. So, no I didn't ask for it.

For anyone with a Mazda that wants to import it to the US.

I just called Mazda and they directed me to their website to fill out a form to be faxed in.

The form can be found here: http://www.mazdausa....mp_exp_form.pdf

The message said that you will get your letter in 10 business days while the form says it takes approximately 20 days. It also looks like they email it to you unless you specify otherwise. Best part, it looks like there is no charge!

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionhelp my husband doesnt want to file taxes!!

Just file married filing seperatly... no problems for you... However, it might trigger a check on your hubby. But I would not omit filing as it will cost you BIG TIME years down the road if you do not file... Plus, depending on what you earned/paid in taxes, you could get a refund...

But it is perfectly OK to file married filing seperatly

Exactly what christeen said. Many people don't files taxes in fear that they will have to pay. The IRS eventually catches up to those people and impose high fees and interest on money owed and those people can possibly face time in jail. It is simply not worth it, especially if you are here on a green card. Do the right thing and file your taxes.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR-1 Help needed for piece of mind
Hello everyone,

I am sorry if this info is already on here and if it is, if someone can give me the link I would much appreciate it.

My husband (Canadian) and I (US) got married last month. I am finalizing all the documents to begin the process of getting him here. We are going the CR-1 route so that he can start to work as soon as he is able to move here. I just want to be certain that I have everything straight in my head for the first process.

So I need to file the I-130 along with the the G-325-A forms filled out by both of us and the filing fee. My supporting documentation is:

1. 1 Passport Style Photo for both of us
2. Copy of my birth certificate and passport
3. Copy of Marriage Certificate
4. Copy of his Divorce Certificate
5. 2 Affidavits of friends who were at our wedding
6. Affidavit from me stating the relationship is real and describing our relationship
7. Copies of photos from different places of me and my husband (about 20 pics)
8. Copies of wedding photos (about 12 pics)
9. Printed copies of a few yahoo messenger conversations and emails (most important ones of our relationship like when he asked me to be his girlfriend, his first email to me, etc. We talked every day on messenger for hours. Do I really need every conversation or would a good assortment from our relationship work?)
10. Airline receipts showing trips we took together or to visit each other

We don't have anything in both our names because we have not been able to do that since he does not have a SSN yet. So is there anything else I'm missing? I'm starting to second guess myself and nerves are setting in and I don't want to miss anything.

Oh, and a question about the I-130. I'm not sure how to answer question 22. "Complete the information below if your relative is in the US and will apply for adjustment of status......" He still lives in Canada and only comes here to visit. Do I need to fill this out, or can I just answer N/A? Is my thinking correct that since he maintains a residence in Canada that he doesn't need to file for Adjustment of Status for a CR-1 visa or am I really confused? helpsmilie.gif

Thank you to everyone for their help and setting my mind at ease. I'm sure you can all understand I just want to be with my husband and don't want to mess anything up.

is this what you get when your nvc login fails:

An error occurred while attempting to access the site. Please click the refresh button on your browser. If you continue to receive this error message, please try again later.

That message tells you there is an error somewhere between the website and your computer. The site didn't connect normally. Hit the refresh button on your web browser or (not sure if this will work on a non-english keyboard) hit the F5 key.

Thanks again. Do you have any idea why we weren't told to bring the envelope? I think most people who aren't aware of this won't have envelope with them during the interview.

QUOTE (canadian_wife @ Oct 4 2009, 06:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
That has not been the case for Montreal in quite some time. Many VJ Canadians have asked to retreive their visa same/next day but to no avail

Good luck.

I'm assuming from your response that you used an attorney for your visa. Attorney's aren't always up on what exactly is needed for the interview. My suggestion is to read the guides linked above and best of luck to you.

Thanks everyone. Adding 1 worked. Looks like they just mailed out the letter on the same day they deposited the check so I should get it here in the next couple of days.

The website said that if I filed an I-130 that I will need to go in for biometrics. I was not aware of this. It's not a problem I am just realizing that there is a lot more to this than I thought. I thought I understood all the steps but in the last week I've learned about 2 extra steps I wasn't initially aware of. Is there a good place to go to find a listing of all the steps so I know what's ahead?

Thanks again!

Hey redmen99...I just noticed that you and your spouse have the same wedding date as my husband and I. smile.gif

Very cool! I hope you had as good a day as my hubby and I had.

I would suggest checking out the guides and the wiki pages on this site for all info related to immigration. I'm not sure why you would need to do biometrics, but you should find something in the guides to help you. Also check out the regional section on these boards. Someone there will be able to direct you better then I would.

Good luck!

Just a quick question. I sent my I-130 application to the Chicago lock box for my application for my husband. I have received delivery confirmation and on Thursday the check cleared my bank account. I haven't received the NOA1 yet, which is fine...I'm sure it's coming. I located the receipt number on the back of the check and tried to enter it into the check status option on USCIS's website and it is saying the computer cannot locate my file. How long does it take to enter into the system usually? They wouldn't cash the check unless the application is moving on to the next step, right?

Thanks everyone!

From what I recall from when I was in the USCIS stage, the numbers on the back of checks are off. Try adding a 1 to the last digit and see if that works.

Check your copy of the I-130, make sure you gave them a good mailing address. I got my NOA1 3 days after the post office said they received my case, and the envelope almost looked like junk mail, so make sure to really look for it and open everything even if it looks like junk mail. If you don't get the hard copy in another week, I'd call them and check on it just for peace of mind.

Good luck in your journey!

Example, the back of the check says WEC-09-123-45678 try putting in WEC-09-123-45679.

Oh, and once the packages are received, they assign a number, then the check goes to one place and the actual file goes somewhere different, so you can't really go by when the check was cashed.

My I-130 was approved on September 30, 2009 and my husband received a NOA stating that the NVC will be contacting me. I've looked at other members timelines and have found that the NVC responded within a few days max 2 weeks. It's almost 1 month and I'm wondering why I haven't heard anything. Any suggestions or advice? Clearly I'm antsy :S

Call NVC asap. I dont remember their phone number off hand...

1-603-334-0700 - I suggest putting it on speed dial. You will be using it a lot..... whistling.gif

As of today, I've never received any mail from the NVC. I am currently waiting for case complete. I called and gave them our email addresses as soon as they received my case and all correspondence has been via e-mail.

Hello,

My wife has received her CR1 Visa and is now living with me in Arizona. I am really just curious what the next step is for my wife? Do i need to get her a green card? do i need to do an Adjustment of Status? get her a social security card? I want to make sure I get her all the required documents.

thanks in advance, I did some searching on the website but couldn't find a definite answer; so hopefully one of you all can guide us in the right direction?

If she came in September with a CR1 visa and doesn't have her green card yet, you have a problem. The same is true for the SS Card. What I'm seeing currently is both arriving within 30 days. You may have failed to check the box requesting an SSN and Card on the DS 230. Just go see the SS office near you.

Did the CBP officer take the sealed envelope from your wife when she arrived?

Are you sure it was a CR1 visa?

yes, I am positive it is a CR1 visa, her passport stamp has CR1, and so does her VISA. it has only been 1.5 months since she has been here, so it may take a little longer.

and I am positive i checked the box on the DS 230 smile.gif

They sometimes don't send a SS card even if you check the box. I'd go to the nearest SS office to check on the status of her SS card just to be sure she is even in the system. Even the government can make mistakes from time to time. whistling.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurespolice certificate from Toronto
If she was there for more then 6 months, they she needs to have a police check from Canada.

Check out the Royal Canadian Mounted Police website for the info you need. http://www.rcmp-grc....ng-empr-eng.htm

I believe she will need to send in two sets of fingerprints to the RCMP. All info is on that site.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSpouse NVC case number assigned to DS-3032/AOS Bill
That's great news for you then! In a week or two the NVC will email you and your spouse the DS-3032 form along with an invoice for $70 and the website and info you need to pay online. Have the beneficiary fill it out, then send back to the NVC. Some people emailed, some mailed, some did both. Its up to you. Once that fee shows paid, print out the receipt with the barcode and send in the AOS package (with tax returns and proof the petitioner meets the income requirements either alone or with a co-signer). Once the 3032 is accepted, you will get another email from the NVC with the IV fee bill for $400. Pay that online, and when that shows paid, print that barcode and send it in with the 230 package with original documents and copies so that you will get the originals back. The 230 needs to be filled in by the beneficiary. You will need to gather a good amount of paperwork, so get started! All the detailed info you will need is in the shortcuts.
