After that wait for a couple of more days prior to asking for your IIN, while asking for IIN, make sure you call at evening hours and don't give out reasons to why you need your IIN. IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures	It just kind of hit me!	Well I am nervous too, been 4 years to marriage and its finally hitting me that may be this year we will start living together. Apart from the usual jitters of adjusting to a whole new environment and trying to snatch a decent job for myself, I am worried about small things too. Like for instance out here from where I am in India, we get free medical facility but it won't be the same in USA and how much of a burden I would be on my husband at start. Then I got to worry about the time when we decide to have a family, again in India, you get your relatives to help you out, taking care of your child or you can get someone to help you by paying them a minimal amount, but in USA it will be only me and hubby, his relatives live far off to help me out and I doubt we will be able to afford outside help, so it will be me giving up any job if I have and I don't really want to do it. I think right now, its a bitter sweet moment I am going throgh, I am excited about him coming over for the interview and going through the Visa process but then I am also sad that I will be leaving my place which I love so dearly, my dad, my brother, my grandma. Especially my grandma, she is getting older by the day, don't even know when will I see her next if ever. You can choose DCF (Direct Consular Filing) if you wish to stay for the time being in India after your marriage. For India you need to stay around 3 months prior to filing DCF and the whole DCF process usually takes a maximum of 2 months. A word of caution, while going to India, make sure you aren't going through Tourist VISA, one can only file DCF if they have some kind of permanent residency VISA for India. Since you were an Indian a few years ago, you can apply for PIO (Person of Indian Origin) or even get Entry VISA and that will fulfill your purpose. Well document your relationship with him; also give American consulate family chart showing how you two have different family background/blood. Just a few more months and gods will be smiling back at you and your fiance. Your Fiance will get Mumbai Consulate, cases of Calcutta region gets forwarded to Mumbai. To OP, sorry to hear about your denial, do think the problem lay with you being an adopted immigrant yourself and that gives CO more reasons to scrutinize your case. Do get married in India and apply for either k-3 or CR-1 and do try to be present there with your husband when he will have to go through his interview in the future. Are you already in USA and just doing adjustment of status or are you (beneficiary) is still in her country and your husband is starting the CR-1 process to bring you to USA?
