IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR-1 @ NVC
To NVC you have to send either -- originals or certified copies from the issuing agency along with photocopies.

If originals have been submitted to NVC, there isn't any need of anymore originals for consulate, only photocopies. NVC forwards originals to the consulate after case completion.

Hope this helps good.gif

Well I am also wondering if I have to submit anymore documents for the interview, I do know I will have to submit 2 more 2x2 photographs, copy of my passport and all the proofs I can arrange, but any other official documents to be submitted?

From the guides it looks like nothing more than just the above stated, hope someone an enlighten us.

I am going to the second route as well, will submit courier fee at VFS and take all the documents to consulate.

I am wondering, I did submit certified birth certificate at NVC, so do I need to submit the original one anywhere or can just take it directly to consulate and show them if they wish for.

Plus the letter from Consulate also talks about DS-230 form, what you guys are going to do? Submit yet another copy of DS-230 at VFS or take it consulate?

I received interview letter, medical list, basically Packet 4 only from Mumbai Consulate, I am not sure if it was sent by VFS or not, but sender's address clearly stated as Mumbai Consulate.

I haven't received anything from NVC, though my husband in USA has received NVC letter. I am not that worried about NVC letter, as its the interview letter which I will need to show for my medical and also submitting courier fee in VFS.

Hope this helps.

I do believe that they accept scanned copy too but others might confirm.

And about interview date listed with Mumbai consulate, may be check the date again in a few days, I do know they update their date after 20th of every month one more time, once NVC has scheduled all the interview for the next month.

This is Mumbai consulate's online version of packet 4 --> link

It is pretty clear that its an older version, courier fee out there is 365 rupees, but its 394 right now. And plus it asks for IV fee of $400 too. I think everyone can relax that we don't have to submit any more photocopies or anything, just courier fee at VFS, and medical at Consulate.

But its wisable if everyone can carry photocopies of all the documents they ever submitted through out the process, on the interview date.

This is what I think crazysamurai. Packets are outdated. If I remember correctly Mumbai consulate wasn't Appointment post around 8-9 months ago, I am not sure of the term to use, may consulate post or what, but do think that's where the confusion is all about.

With appointment post you send everything to NVC and then NVC forwards the same to respective consulate. And this is what present situation is, as far as I can tell, others who have recently been through Mumbai consulate for CR-1 visa, they haven't submitted any other additional document other than their courier fee, courier fee is mandatory, even if applicant decides to get their passport later at the evening of the interview.

About medical, beneficiary can choose to submit it in either VFS or take it directly to the consulate, its better to take it directly to the consulate.

I really hope, people who have been through recently would shed some light into it.

I got my interview date for November too. Haven't received any package yet, hopefully I will get soon too.

I was wondering if Mystique if your wife too has been asked to submit photocopies of Birth certificate, marriage certificate and i-864 or not?

According to this thread we have to. But I was with an assumption that all we have to submit anymore is courier fee of 394 rupees and medical to be submitted at consulate.

From your timeline, it looks like you received hardcopy more than 10 days ago, so I do assume your case should have been updated to USCIS system by now.

Try calling USCIS and talk to a representative, check whether their system has your case updated or not.

Lol, my husband wants to shift now because his current one year lease is going to get over by 9th of November, but he is also planning to come to India for my interview, so I am just asking him to be with the same apartment.

This is such an unpredictable road, he is getting good offers with other apartments, 2 bedroom for only 400 dollars plus all utilities paid, but he can't take it as we don't want to change apartments now because his current address is what I filled with my DS-230 form that I will be staying in once I go to USA rolleyes.gif .......................I just hope he can get that apartment after coming back from India, will be really nice tongue.gif

Rajaa_Reda,

I really don't want to put doubts in your mind, but do you think NVC is doing additional security checks? There have been cases where NVC is known for doing those additional security checks especially to MENA members. I really hope I am wrong, and its just the confusion with consulate change thats taking it so long.

Best wishes, do hope you hear something positive tomorrow smile.gif

I believe I read recently that when operator says your case is "under final review" that means they have accepted DS-230 and waiting on their supervisor to see through the package one more time and give the final call on that specific case.

I agree with choochoo, you should call on Monday and get the good news smile.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisa Issue
Well I did have the same case, I got my visa interviewed yesterday and they said how they have some technical problem and can't issue it the same day. Anyways I went back to VFS today evening and got my passport.

Your wife will get her visa in 4 working days, they should have gotten her passport yesterday or today...........yesterday only 2 IV applicant had gotten their passport, so I guess they got all the pending ones today and they will mail it out those by Monday hopefully, so she will get it by next week.

Don't worry, they really are having some technical difficulties.

Best wishes

QUOTE (yeye @ Nov 22 2008, 04:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Congratulations on your approval! Thanks for sharing your detailed interview experience which was very helpful.

Few questions I have if you could answer:

1) Is there a separate line for CR1 visa holders outside of the embassy or you have to stand in same line as visitor visa, student visa etc.?

I went to the consulate from VFS office, so we were taken directly to the consulate from there. But as far as I can tell you IV interviews are scheduled at 7:30 in the morning while others as tourist visa and all are for later timing.

2) How did they call you? Do they have token system or just announce your name on broadcast system?
They called me by name. For both prescreening and then the actual interview. Interview happens behind close doors, so whats your business remains yours.

3) You said not to take bags etc. Are even plastic bags not allowed? You need some kind of bag to carry so many docs and wedding album. Please advise.
You can take bags, but don't take ZIPPER bags. We did carry one zipper bags but then had to take out all the stuff out from there and carry in plastic bags.

4) How did you find out from VFS that your passport is ready for pickup? As I understand they hold the passport for only few hours and then they courier it.
No, you can't call VFS to know if your passport is ready for it or not. Basically I was told by the consular officer that I can go to VFS that evening and check if my passport is ready or not, but CO also said it might not be ready because they were going through some technical problems. Anyways I did go to VFS on 20th and then at VFS they told me its not yet ready and asked me to get back again on 21st at evening hours.
Timing for VFS passport collection is from 5pm to 6pm, and they let IV applicants enter first at VFS.

Thanks and Good Luck!

Hope this helps, good luck for your own interview.

Best wishes.

We had kind of a peculiar case than most of you guys, so my interview was based on 2 issues which I don?t think I have ever encountered with any other couple in these forums.

1--- We had Arya samaj wedding but we never registered that marriage, we were told that Arya samaj certificate is sufficient enough as its valid and legal in India.
2?After marriage in 2004, my husband couldn?t make it back to India due to severe financial issues, he did come a few days ago, but we haven?t been able to physically meet with each other for 4 years.

7:15 am ? Reached Consulate by taking shuttle bus from VFS
7:25 am ? Finger printing
7:45 am ? Prescreening interview?gave me my original documents also asked these questions?
i) where is your husband currently
ii) when did he come to India
iii) how long you two are married
iv) asked me for my marriage registered certificate?I said I don?t have it because we had Arya samaj wedding and its legal in India???she said its not legal and I will need registered marriage certificate??she also said that just because I have my husband?s name with my passport and other govt. issued certificates, that doesn?t make him as my husband legally unsure.gif dead.gif

Was all scared for the next few hours, couldn?t breath or anything, thought I am done for good.

12:40 pm?Was called for the final interview. Was a nice American lady and she asked a lot of questions, but was very friendly with her questions.
i) who is your petitioner
ii) how did you meet him, when did you decide to get married
iii) did your parents agree to it (me and hubby are inter-racial couple)
iv) why he couldn?t come to India after marriage
v) why was he laid off from work
vi) what is he working now and where
vii) does he live alone or does he live in shared apartment
viii) will you guys be living in the same place after him taking you to US
ix) now that he is in India, how long is he going to stay in India
x) does he have any brothers and sisters, is he the youngest or oldest of them
xi) have you ever talked to any of his family member
xii) show me wedding photographs
xiii) do you have any other proofs, then please show me.
xiv) Do you work? What was your last job.

I did give her around 20 photographs, both wedding and non-wedding ones and she looked at each of them closely. About proofs, I was giving out all the postal letters we send to each other, telephone bills, western union receipts, I was going to pull out other proofs too as emails and chats and insurance papers and others, but she asked me to stop.
She typed something out on her computer and said that my Visa has been approved and I can pick it up from VFS either this evening or it can be couriered to me.

CO didn?t open up any of those proofs which I gave to her, she only saw those photographs closely and talked to me, I was just piling up those proofs and she didn?t even open up one single phone bill or letters or anything. She didn't even bring up the marriage certificate question, so that was a big relief.

Overall the experience was good, though a long wait and plus they didn?t let my USC husband enter the consulate, even though we did confirm through email and him showing the print out of that email didn?t work. So my husband had to wait in the sun for around 5 hours.

Also please don?t take any zipped folder or bags, they take those away.

We got our passport this evening after making a second tour to VFS.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresxray
Hi there all,

I had my POE on 26th and it went really smooth, I wasn't asked a single question. But they didn't take my X-ray report. I wonder what should I do with my X-ray report?

I did ask the POE officer and he said, they don't need my X-ray and I can submit it to any doctor I want to. I really didn't get the part of submitting to any doctor? I am not sick or anything that I need to get to the doctor or did the officer talk about any of the Immigration appointed doctors?

We had a connecting flight, so I couldn't really ask him much and had to rush to catch my flight.

Anyways hope to get some insight on this. Thanks a bunch.
