IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresGot the Greencard
Congratulations on receiving green card.

I am still waiting for mine, but I did get an email from CRIS on 24th about Card production order, I got another CRIS email today saying my case has been approved.......I am kind of confused about what it means by my case being approved.

Anyways about SSN, me and hubby went to SSN office on 23rd and applied in person. We didn't have to fill up any form, the lady in there was very helpful and she filled out a form on her computer and I just had to sign. She said I should be getting it in 2 weeks time.

I really wish to get the SSN asap, so that we can move to a better apartment biggrin.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresrelationship proof photos
While submitting i-130 we submitted around 10 photos, 5 of wedding and 5 just normal pics. Though we submitted other proofs too during our initial filling-- life insurance, phone call records, a couple of chats, few postal letters.

During the interview I took 20 pics of me, again mix of wedding and normal. Make sure with the wedding pics you have friends and families around. I had other proofs too but CO didn't see any of those, she just examined the photographs.

I spoke to my lawyer's assistant today about my I-130 petition, she told me to fax her my birth certificate because se didn't include it with the petition (im the beneficiary). She said she was going to mail it in today and that there wouldn't be any problems. I checked the Uscis website for the I-130 instructions and it doesn't say you need to send in the beneficiary's birth certificate. Do any of you know if my birth certificate is needed now? And if it isn't at what point of the process will it be needed? Also if it is needed now will there be any problems with my petition because we're sending the birth certificate in a separate package?
Thank you

yes you need to send a certified copy, if it's just a xerox that will be another RFE. all docs should be original or certified copies. keep a xerox copy for the interview.

Please don't give out wrong informations. OP is asking for USCIS stage, no certified or originals are needed for that stage.

And as Pushbrk stated, its not necessary to send off your BC but it won't harm you either.

Good luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresReceived 'Welcome Letter'
Log on to USCIS website with the NOA-1 of that welcome letter. You should get email from CRIS when they start processing your wife's green card.

And now that you have got the welcome letter, I highly suggest you and your wife make a visit to Social security office, either they will have a number ready for her, if not then apply it that day itself and you should be getting the SSN in mail within one week.

And usually once you get the welcome notice, green card will be arriving shortly.

Best wishes.

QUOTE (VA8688 @ Jan 9 2009, 10:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It's not really that difficult to change your maiden name. I did everything in a couple of hours. Changed my SS, Liscence and ID. I'll change my passport after my case is completed.

I believe you are the USC, so its not that difficult for you.

I am from India and if I decide to change my name now, I will have to change my SS, Passport (which has US VISA stampped on it) and the most importantly my GC, that would take around $400 as I am being told.

thank you! wow, you surely moved fast with USCIS...3 months only? howd you do that?

Lol, I didn't do anything, you can actually never say when USCIS will approve. Basically my file was with California, and they were approving faster than VSC that time around.

I really hope VSC picks up the pace this new year.

Best wishes for your journey good.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureswhat if i didnt change my maiden name to my husbands family name?
No it won't be a problem. There are no hard core rules that you have to take your husband's last name after marriage.

I haven't changed my last name yet and most probably I will never, not a feminist as such, but I am just comfortable with my own last name and plus too much of paperwork.

i haven't heard of that document before is this philppine specific???

Yes its specifically is for Philippines, and I guess they also have another thing which they need to be stamped before boarding their flight to USA, that is something with both the partners attending some marriage seminar after they receive their VISA, or may be just the beneficiary, I am not sure and get it stamped.

To the OP, may be you should ask this question in Philippines forum , your chances of getting accurate answer will be much more.

Best of luck good.gif

Its better if she waits for her Green card to arrive before making any travel arrangements.....

I am curious.... Why?

There has been a few reports where people were concern about taking their spouses to Canada, I guess it was with the border petrol, how they refused to identify passport stamp as greencard.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR-1/CR-1 Spouse Visa Question
QUOTE (Rover @ Jan 30 2009, 01:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello VJr's,
I have a couple of questions please, because of my wife's work situation, when she get's her IR-1/CR-1 Visa (god's willing), how long does she have to use it? meaning that she have to enter the US with in 3-6 months? Does the VISA have an expiration date? The second question is when she enters the US the first time, can she leave and reenters with the same VISA, or she has to wait to get her Green Card in the mail before she can travel again? and last how long does it take to receive your green card in the mail is 3-6 weeks in the ball park?
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Your wife will have 6 months to enter US once VISA has been granted.

Once she enters US, she will either get 2 year or 10 year GC depending upon how long you guys have been married on her day of entry. Anyways the CR-1/IR-1 visa alone is good enough for re-entering US. But keep in mind not be away from US for more than 6 months or that may raise questions at POE when she tries to gets back to US.

Its better if she waits for her Green card to arrive before making any travel arrangements, but she can travel anyways.

For me it took around 5 weeks to receive GC, but mind you it was holiday season. Anyways some others have got their GC in 10 days time, and for a few unfortunate one it took 8 months or so, so you can't really say how long will it take.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNeed to send documents to VFS in New Delhi.
As far as I can tell, once the documents are being submitted at VFS, VFS will forward it to consulate. No one really knows how long will it take, but make sure you mount them will all the bonafide relationship proof.

Can take anywhere from 2 months to 2 years, I am sorry, but thats how it is. Make sure to keep calling New Delhi consulate and also DOS to know update on your case.

Once Delhi has done all its processing and everything is clear, your wife will be asked to bring her passport to them and they will stamp her passport.

Good luck good.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresStrange Scene at VFS MUMBAI
Yeye,

VFS guys don't take any proof of relationship, only documents. You have to take proof of relationship to consulate on interview date. As far as I can say, they told me I should bring NVC letter (which I do got, but I thought it won't be necessary). So let me put 2 formats of what to submit.

If beneficiary is carrying NVC letter with them--- DS-230 forms (part 1 signed, part 2 unsigned), two 2x2 white background photographs, passport photocopy, letter from Consulate if possible.

If beneficiary is NOT carrying NVC letter-- DS-230 forms (part 1 signed, part 2 unsigned), two 2x2 white background photographs, passport photocopy, letter from Consulate is must, Photocopies of -- birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce decrees, military services, any criminal record, both the PCC.

Note-- VFS office does have a photo counter and also Xerox machine in their premises.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresStrange Scene at VFS MUMBAI
Well bumping this thread because thats the same thing happened to me today.

I had my medical exam today and thought I would pay VFS fee and submit DS-230 forms, photographs, passport photocopy along with the interview letter...........and there I go and they demand for originals. I did say I have submitted them all to NVC, and according to NVC requirements if documents have been submitted to them, there is no need for further submission, so they are now asking for the letter from NVC or submit photocopies. I do have the letter, but didn't take it with me today to VFS, so planning on going down there again day after tomorrow and will show them that letter plus will also give out all the photocopies of birth certificate, marriage certificate and PCC's.

Seriously, these people should be given notice about new changes dead.gif
