Asia: Southtime difference between CR-1 and K-3
Yes I am sticking with IR-1 route, basically my husband is tongue.gif

I do realise the benifits and its only fair to stick with IR-1, 4 years of this long distance relationship hasn't yet killed us, so a few more months wouldn't tongue.gif

Thanks for the guidance :thumb:

Hope you have a smoother AOS

CarolynRitesh hope you have a piece of cake of an interview!

Asia: Southtime difference between CR-1 and K-3
Hello all,

I am kind of, sort of thinking about k-3 process, I probably will stick with IR/CR-1 but still the thought of a few months less separation time is tempting me a bit too much.

Anyways everyone directs to check with the local consulate/embassy and see how they process IR/CR-1 and K-3, so I am wondering how does it go with Indian consulate especially Chennai, is there a big time difference for giving interview dates to IR/CR-1 applicants compared to K-3?

Asia: Southkshatriya, can you share details on K-1 interview status?
I am just wondering about this whole engagement/wedding party pics, have more and more heard of Delhi embassy asking for it compared to Mumbai or Chennai, but then may be we have more K-1 filers from Delhi.

What happens with wedding ceremonies? we had only 15 people at our wedding, including 4 or 5 arya samaj people, and a few relatives and 2 cops for protection (yey!! feels so important tongue.gif) and we never had any reception, just a small family gathering and I did lose that CD when tsunami hit our house back in 2004 (got married on sept 2004). What I wanted to ask is, does the longivity of marriage proves any point rather than the photographs of the ceremony, especially at Chennai consulate?

Just its funny that consulates want you to spend lakhs or they won't validate a marriage or an engagement.

This is almost 2 year old letter, I had my Tourist visa interview at Calcutta consulate and the CO out specifically told me to apply for i-130, anyways somehow when I got back to Port Blair, I had an email forwarded by Calcutta consulate.

I was going through old mails today and reading this letter again made sense to me, so anyone looking out for DCF, think the cut out time to stay in India actually is 60 days, rather than 90 or 180 days, may be things have changed from that time, but still I thought about sharing the attached document I received from the consulate.

Not just copy but certified copy from the issuing agency. So if your wife can certify those from whichever agency issued it, it would be better.

Ok, I finally figured out about the certified copy, say you have to get the certified copy of your birth certificate, in my case I got my birth certificate from Department of Health Services, Port Blair.

So get a photocopy of that and at the bottom write -->> Certified to the true copy, along with the Designation of the officer (in my case it was the superintendent), his seal and sign.

Asia: SouthCertified Copy
Well I am still a bit confused about it. NVC specifically states that the copies should be certified from the ISSUING AGENCY, which means if someone has got their birth certificate from the municipal board of Pune, they have to be certified from the same municipal board of Pune.

Another thing, how can you get multiple copies of birth certificate, I know if you lose your birth certificate or say your 10th pass certificate, you get duplicate of it, and once you attain a duplicate of any given certificate, the original is automatically discarded.

I think whenever the time comes for me, I will end up sending all the originals, except I don't know what to do about the passport part.

Ok, I have a doubt, what do you do about the certified passport pages?

And what exactly is a certified copy, call me dumb, but I have asked around officials but they are clueless too.

So what really I need to do to obtain a certified copy of say my birth certificate?

Do I take a photocopy of my birth certificate and then what? I take it to the municiple board and ask them to attest it? Attest it with the same seal which is already on my certified copy? Or, do I need to take the photocopy on some bond paper and then get it sealed and signed stating that this is a certified copy from the issuing agency.

Sorry folks, but I really am confused about the whole certified copy thing.

Thanks for your comments journeyman.

Actually we have already answered that while filing our i-130 about why we weren't able to file our petition till recently and seriously I am not thinking that just because we got the i-130 approved it won't be any hassle during the interview. Just it was a breath of fresh air for a while.

Hi all,

Just wanted to update that our i-130 petition did get approved without the registered marriage certificate from court.

Not sure if just Arya samaj copy was enough or is the fact that I provided my electoral and my islander's identity card, which had my husband's name stated in those.

Thank you all for your time and help smile.gif

One piece of friendly advise is, even though you don't get a RFE, I would suggest you get this registered later sometime at least as you would run into this problem in the future for any kind of legal requirement. All the best.

Thank you neethope.

We actually plan to have another wedding, let it be a small civil ceremony in US or even in India later down the line in a year or 2 hopefully. Just the marriage hasn't been all so ideal from 2004, well that's a different story (financial burden, this distance, blah blah).

So whenever we start our life together finally, let it be in India or US, we do plan for a small wedding.

Thanks again guys for all the help good.gif

Just keeping my fingers crossed for an approval.

My husband is a US citizen (caucasian) and we got married at 2004. That time around we were told that getting married at Arya samaj is enough ( I admit we both were pretty immature regarding all these technicality of getting married). The lawyer I contacted a few days ago told me arya samaj wedding comes under special marriage act and its pretty valid according to Indian law.

I still do have fear about the court papers, which we haven't been able to provide.

So basically me and my husband are going to register the existing marriage if we do get an RFE.

I have been researching on this subject and the legal way of registering the marriage also takes 1 months time.

I just hope my husband gets leave from work for around 45 days if that does happen; you guys do know how things go in India, 1 month can go upto 1 and half months.

Thanks Roza.

I hope not to receive any RFE but if we do, then we will go through that 1 month process.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaUpdate I-134 Affidavit of support Form for K1

Does anyone have a updated version of the I-134 Affidavit of support? The one I initially filled out in Feb 2011 says Expire 5/31/2011. All the links the US Embassy sent me for Packet 3 and 4 do not work http://kingston.usem...fees/forms.html It says 404 - Requested Page Not Found on Site. When I google the only link I can find is a form that says it expires Form I-134 (Rev. 05/25/11) Y Page 2. Also says Edition: 05/25/2011 Previous editions accepted. So is it ok to use the form that expires 5/25/2011 or can anyone provide me with a current edition link. My computer would not allow me to open some for some reaso as it says my work doesn't authoize it. I was told we cannot use out dated forms.

Hey girl! I'm using the one that has 5/25/11 on it. I reading it as that was the date it was last revised..
