Asia: SouthDS-230 : Missing information!
No, you don't need to provide 2 PCC for the same place, just send the rectified DS-230 and that will be enough. A PCC lasts for 1 year in India, so you don't need any new PCC.

Asia: Southvfs fee and documents
You have to go to VFS office no matter which VISA you are applying for. For CR-1 you have to pay the courier fee which I think is around Rs. 396, you can check with the consulate to know the exact fee.

No, you don't have to submit everything they have asked for at VFS, copies will work fine. But you will have to submit originals of anything which you haven't submitted at NVC. Say for instance you submitted certified BC of the Indian beneficiary, the beneficiary will have to submit the original BC at VFS. Also Mumbai VFS asks for a fresh copy of DS-230, part 1 signed, part 2 unsigned. They might also ask for copies of every other document you submitted with your DS-230 package at NVC, so keep photocopies handy.

Also keep in mind you have to submit all your documents at VFS between 10 to 7 working days prior to the interview. One can also submit their medical report at VFS, they will just take the medical report and submit at the consulate before interview along with your other documents which you have submitted.

well one of the member on this forum got NOA2 in 18 days coz he had recently got citizenship. So i was wondering if this how things work

No one really can tell you at what point you will get your NOA-2, when I was going through my VISA process, a few people from California Service center got their NOA-2 within 20 days time but most of the others got their in 120 days time, while some others got their more than 8 months later.

I wish you best but don't be disappointed if you don't receive your NOA-2 within 20 days time smile.gif

No one can tell you when you will get your NOA-2. As I believe USCIS process applications without any bias towards GC holders and Citizens, its at NVC that a GC holder have to wait till their case has been assigned with a VISA number for further processing.

About background checks, most of the times its the background of intending immigrant (that's you in this case) is what is being checked more thoroughly than the petitioner.

What to expect at POE for CR1visa
Do they ask questions? What is the processing procedure done at the airport customs?
Thanks

No questions were asked to me as a IR-1 applicant, I stood in USC line with my husband, took only 5 minutes processing time, they took the envelops from me, put everything in a folder, asked me to get my luggage and go to another room, in that room the other officer took that folder, asked me to sit, after 5 minutes or so called me back, took my fingerprints and simply said Welcome to America.

That's about it, no questions asked or no drama involved.

Congrat, you should get your passport soon. You will receive the Brown envelop along with the passport, don't open it at any point, you will only have to submit it at POE. POE officer will open it.

Depends on what kind of documents were asked for. If its more relationship proof documents, then those documents will be verified by the CO again and will depend if CO is satisfied with it or not.

If the asked documents were about tax return or any other official paper, then you should hear something soon given you have provided what they have asked for.

No one can give you exact time frame, but do keep calling either DOS or Delhi consulate every other day to know the progress of your case. Best wishes.

Yes, I'm from a hill station. It is so much fun watching football in dense fog tongue.gif and you have no idea what is going on the ground but you cheer coz you hear people who are closer to ground cheering. Sometimes you hear people cheer and find out that it was the wrong football team. rofl.gif

I miss pani puri and i miss fried fish. What kind of fish is good for frying in U.S?? I tried mackrel once but was a waste of time and poor fish. IS anyone Bengali here?? Any tip for fried fish?? biggrin.gif

tongue.gif I am Bengali, and yes fish has been pain in my a$$/heart everywhere. Don't buy fish from walmart or places like that, they sell those frozen fish, try small grocery store. I am not sure which city you live in but here in this midwestern town there is a small Chinese grocery store which also sells Indian products, I buy my fish from them.

Try getting red snapper and salmon (again don't get your salmon from walmart, its dry and chewy at best). I personally don't enjoy fresh water fish, but if you do then Tilapia might be another option for you, so is cat fish. Tuna is good too but don't think its good for just fried, more like coconut curry kind biggrin.gif

Do you like the American breaded fried version of Fish or just plain fry? I can't stand the breaded fried stuff, let it be fish or chicken.

Oh and since you are from hill station, are you from Darjeeling by any chance whistling.gif

For me I miss horn sound, and I used to miss ceiling fan sound while sleeping, I have solved that problem by getting a ceiling fan for our apartment and banning AC at nights.

We live in a small town right now, I have no problems with small town because I grew up in one of those but my husband misses Fresno a lot. I think more has to do with food and friends for him. Out here food is different for him, he is used to real authentic hot Mexican food but you can't get something like that in Midwest.

IndiaIndians Will you take US citizenship?

Can an OCI vote?

Nope & nor can they hold government jobs. So technically still India doesn't allow dual citizenship.
trinketFemaleIndia2010-08-13 23:04:00
IndiaIndians Will you take US citizenship?

True that India does not allow Dual Citizenship - but why not just apply for OCI or PIO status? You gain many priveledges with those cards - which are effectively like Green Cards for India if you ever decide to go back there.

Yes one do have an option for OCI or PIO but at the end of the day you are giving up your citizenship no matter what. Technically you aren't an INDIAN anymore.

I asked this question for more of an emotional reason than practicality. Practically it is better to get the US citizenship, but then you are giving up your Indian citizenship.

IndiaIndians Will you take US citizenship?
With the other thread going on about bringing foreign spouse to India :P I am wondering will you Indians will go for US citizenship when the time comes?

India doesn't allow dual citizenship, so if you do take US citizenship you will have to give up your Indian citizenship status. You can always get PIO or OCI but at the end of the day its not the same as being an Indian citizen.

I have 1 year left before I can apply for US citizenship, personally I don't want to get US citizenship, I do have 10 year GC so I can wait a bit longer and hope India changes its rules about dual citizenship. My USC husband though wants me to get US citizenship, I do see his points and do realize in practicality that would be the better thing to do, but then my civic pride and all the emotional being doesn't want me to even think about giving up my motherland.

Decisions decisions to make.

Indiais Indian real estate a bubble?

hmmmm. Interesting.

Do you think that alone accounts for the huge % increase in price over the last few years? To what extent do you think this increase is based on the kind of fundamentals you're referring to (which I tend to think you're right about) and to what extent is it a result of speculative activity?

As Harsh pointed out people have more money today than they had even 15 years ago. Most Indians would have never thought about loans. I was having a discussion with my dad the other day about mortgage in US and he made a valid point about how in his days getting a loan for housing was impossible.

I was looking through housing loans in India and its still is higher compared to US market, but more and more of young generation is getting their way to buy a house. What used to happen a couple of decades ago was a government servant or even private one would work all their life and then with their retirement money at the age of 60 would buy a house, his kids would end up inheriting that house and thats how the cycle would turn over and over.

Also keep in point with the young couples both man and woman are working and bringing home the money, so couples have more money to invest, they aren't relying on only one income.

Indiais Indian real estate a bubble?

Why is there suddenly (over the last 5 years) a shortage of space? Has the population suddenly skyrocketed?

Nope I think its because new generation don't live with their parents anymore, more and more young couples are looking forward to live separately.

IndiaK1 process
ELW is right, if she is from Darjeeling, she will go through Mumbai consulate. There is no regional guideline per say, but do look into what might be a red flag for one country/region might not be a red flag for another country/region. It all depends upon what the social norms of a region is.

For example, Delhi consulate usually asks engagement party receipts, pictures and a whole lot of big tickets which are normal in north India where engagement is a grand affair, but the same things are hardly asked for Mumbai or Chennai, as engagement parties arent a big thing in west or south India.

IndiaPCC question
ktdc is right, please don't confuse people. 2 PCC are needed, one from the district which issued Indian passport and another from the police station where the applicant is living currently.

About how long will it take to get PCC, it truly depends upon district to district, in my case it took exact 1 month, but I have seen others from Delhi or other places in north where it took only a few days.
