Thanks everybody. Adi and I just dropped Daniel off to the airport. Next we'll be seeing him when he comes back after the deployment is over. Just a few months to go now

I really adore your strength Parul. You have been through the pregnancy almost all by yourself and now this separation must be heart wrenching.

Glad deployment will be over soon, and the siggy pic of Daniel with the baby is really cute

Asia: SouthQuestion as with MARM's thread for Indian citizens
We went through IR-1 and it went all smoothly. We had a couple of red flags, the biggest one was that we didn't meet physically for 4 years after getting married.....just economic stuff, accident, loss of job, bad financial decisions.

I am just so glad that I didn't have to go through Delhi embassy, all I have heard are the horror stories from there, well barring a few good ones. But I was pretty confident that we would get RFE of some sort, but well we didn't and it went all fine.

Just to update everyone, Sam got his voter's list thingie today and didn't have to bribe them amazing! He did have to go back 3 times before they had it for him though. He also got it translated. Also, just to warn some people as it wasn't obvious to us, that you need to submit original letters and cards with envelopes (if you have them) not photo copies. They promise to return them later. We should be ready to submit our additional evidence on Monday or Tuesday at the latest. yay. kicking.gif

Asia: SouthFiancée is coming on the 28th what should he bring
You do get everything out here but there is a difference. Pressure cookers of US don't have whistle system, so if he can do let him bring pressure cooker.

-Rolling pin
-Jaggery (you hardly get it here)
-Coconut flakes (you do get coconut here but sweetened ones, not the dry flakes)
--May be some medicines, for me it has been boroline antiseptic cream and moov pain relief.

Try some dry whole spices, things like poppy seeds, black musturd seeds; you do get these stuff but prices are outrageous out here.

Just think along the line of where you are and what all you can get, plan ahead according to that. Best of luck for the life ahead rose.gif

Asia: SouthIs Chennai, India a Standard & Appointment Post NVC processing?
It is appointment post. NVC site hasn't updated yet. I see Bombay being updated now, but when I was going through my visa process, Bombay wasn't updated yet Bombay was appointed post.

The best way to verify anything is emailing Chennai consulate's IV department, they are very efficient and you will get your answer hopefully from the horses mouth.

Asia: SouthQuestion about Medical Exam
My medical was done in Mumbai and its a bit different from Chennai, but from I read last year by other Chennai visajourney members---- one first collects their lab test the same day around 4 pm and then they visit the assigned doctor the same day around 5 pm and they get their stamped envelop from them.

Most of those visajourney members went through Dr. John, and yes you will need your appointment letter to go through medical, one can always get a copy from Chennai consulate itself if they haven't received it by mail yet.

Asia: SouthJob letter for wife in india is it needed
No, there is no such need of any letter. An intending immigrant can decide to stay unemployed for the rest of his/her life, it has nothing to do with the VISA itself.

You as a petitioner or a joint sponsor has the responsibility to provide i-1864 with the means that you can provide for the immigrant.

What VFS sents is a standard procedure which applies to all other types of VISA applicants, so dont take every thing in a literal sense with the VFS forms.

Hey,

From US immigration and NVC side, there is no need to update middle name of wife from fathers to her husband after marriage.

BUT for female beneficiaries living in Gujarat India that will go through Ahmedabad passport office, Ahmedabad passport office DOES REQUIRE the name change on passport before they can issue police clearance certificate. You will need passport PCC to be submitted when your case transfers to NVC in New Hampshire before they can issue visa call letter. My wife went through this process, she had to get a new passport in India with my name.

So, it is necessary to get married name for wife in Gujarat India if going through Ahmedabad passsport office for their PCC.
If you apply in Tatkaal scheme, it will take Application, indian proofs, passport photos, old maiden passport, and affidavits and Rs. 2500 fee, and your passport will be issued in maximum of 10 days. Be sure to respond to passport inquiry. This is AMD passport office web site <http://passport.guj.nic.in/>

Trushar

Someone from Gujarat should sue the passport office. What they are doing is forcing people into believing their "traditional value".

To OP, yes if you are from Gujarat you may want to change it or sue them for forced harassment. If you are from other state it doesn't really matter. I was advised to change my last name also but I never did and it wasn't even asked during the interview, though I did have my Husband's name on my biometric page but I never took his name.

This is my second marriage and wife's first marriage. He question how can she marry a divorcee and wanted detail documentation about my divorce and also asked about the pictures of our marriage and what to know how many people attended our marriage blah blah...

CO wants to see pictures with the guest..We submitted all the documentation & passport 2 week back but no response from them..

What's the waiting time.. should i contact them thru email or wait? Any similar experience ?

Is there any chance of rejection in CR1?

Usually there is no upright rejection letter, your wife may be put under AP and that might take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 years to clear up.

The reasons for upright rejections --- drug abuse, criminal charges, falsly claiming to be USC and things like that.

Keep calling Chennai consulate and see what the progress is. Chennai is becoming hard with divorcee and issues outside of social norms. You might want to contact -- Indianheart, I really feel sorry for that lady, her husband is under AP for almost a year now and they too went through Chennai.

Asia: SouthHOW TO PREPARE FOR 8 JULY INTERVIEW AT NEW DELHI..
You can call up the assigned medical from Delhi Embassy and book yourself a date, make sure its at least 7 days before the interview, so if any problem arises, you will have sometime to clear things up.

Your other obligation is to make a trip to VFS, this should be done between 10 to 7 WORKING days before the interview. You can check their holiday list to count your dates. At VFS you will have to submit 394 rupees couier fee, you may also choose to submit your Medical at VFS. I am not sure about Delhi VFS but Mumbai VFS asks for the whole copy of DS-230 to be submitted, so do check with VFS of what all you will have to submit; technically you will only have to submit the fee, interview letter, two 2x2 photographs and copies of your passport.

Best of luck!

Asia: SouthQuestion on "no objection" letter
You can obtain it at US. A no objection letter basically is a Notarized letter stating how you are eligible to be married in your country. But keep in mind you will have to make another Notarized copy again in India with Indian authorities whenever you do decide to get married. US consulate used to issue no objection letter, but now they only assist you with notarizing the document.

I hope you are ready to tackle all the hassle of getting married in India.

Mumbai doesn't allow anyone to accompany other than the beneficiary.

Hi All,

We have currently filed for K1 visa, and the interview is in mumbai on 18th august. As of now we are planning to go ahead with K1 visa.

In case our plan changes later on and we decide to get married in india and do DCF from delhi (after meeting their requirements). How would we cancel K1 visa at that point.

Thanks.

If your plan changes before interview, just don't attend the interview and your VISA automatically will be void.

Once you have got your NOA-2, you have 4 months to complete the whole process, so the faster you send the faster you will complete. Surely you can always ask for an extention but if they will grant you an extension or not will depend upon the situation.

this is all geting confusing. i have a similar case and i wrote an email to mumbai embassy and they said you only need one from your local police.

And Mumbai consulate is right. You need 1 from local police and 1 from the district your passport has been issued from.

So if you are currently living in Mumbai but your passport was issued from your native place of Chennai for example. You get the Police one from Mumbai and Passport one from Chennai.

Does anyone know how long it takes New Delhi Embassy to send to VFS? My wife had her interview on Thursday and I called VFS today and they still don't have it! The officer told my wife it will take about a week (but I am not sure if that meant to VFS or to her home). I do not want to bug IVND about this....or should I mail them?

Oh, and if anyone wants to know details of our interview (Approved!) please PM me! It was just 5 minutes or so and straight forward. Counselor asked me he was happy to see me accompany wife, but asked me to sit down for interview.

I am pretty sure they meant home. Usually when VFS gets the passport and brown package the same day of the interview or the next day and applicant can get it personally from there; if the applicant doesn't come to pick up personally then it is posted to their home address through DHL.

Asia: SouthIs islamic divorce from india recognized as legal for immigration?
I am not sure about divorce but we had kind of a similar situation with our marriage certificate. We married at Arya samaj according to Hindu marriage law but we never registered the marriage. At the time of the wedding we were told Arya samaj wedding is legal according to Indian government and so it should be legal anywhere in the world.

We filed for i-130 petition 4 years after the wedding and the lack of civil certificate was an issue but our lawyer did make my husband make a notarized statement stating how Arya samaj wedding is legal in India, our lawyer also attested Arya samaj Marriage Validation Act XIX of 1937.

We didn't have any problem at USCIS and NVC, but at Mumbai consulate I was given a bit of hard time by Indian CO about civil certificate, but no questions where asked when I went for the actual interview with American CO.

yes if they are born in the USA they will become US Citizen by natrual. If the baby was born in India
it depends. Are you a USC? if you are then you can make your baby a USC cause your a USC.. IF you are a Perm. Res and are Indian then you will have to get a visa for the baby.

I hope that helps

Thank you, Yogi. I am a US citizen by birth. I appreciate the information.

As it is I'm having a hard enough time waiting these months for my wife's I130 to make it to NVC... I couldn't even comprehend what it would be like leaving my wife and child in India while I file I130's and wait nearly a year to get my kid in the states...

you would need to ask yourself if you have your child in India, is it worth going through the entire I130 process again to get your child in the USA?

If your child is born in USA, She will be instantly a US citizen and her birth certificates prove USC. Once your child is born in USA, you can file for OCI and get all the rights in India as if your child was born there anyway ( I think the only thing she cant do with that is run for office or vote, but google to be sure)
While My parents are both from India, I was born here and they used my birth certificate to prove citizenship until I got my US passport.

Wrong, if any of the parent of the child is a USC and have been maintaining their residency in US for the past 5 years, they don't have to go through seperate i-130 for the child, they will have to file CRBA.

US allows dual citizenship, India doesn't. So OCI isn't exactly dual citizenship, it sure does make things a bit easier but it isn't dual citizenship.

No, you don't need to provide 2 PCC for the same place, just send the rectified DS-230 and that will be enough. A PCC lasts for 1 year in India, so you don't need any new PCC.
