PhilippinesPlease give me dos and donts when wife arrives from Manila
Try to make her independent. I loved it the most, every woman is different but for me it was a blast to go on buses on my own, do the shopping on my own, even if its simple grocery shopping or buying cloths for me.

I walked a lot, trying to understand the roads and directions. Teach her how to pay bills online, how to use electrical appliances which she might not have used back in Philli. In Asian countries people aren't that used to canned food, so it might be a big adjustment for her. I am still not used to all the sodium infected prepacked food of America, I stick to my home cooking.

The more things you do on your own, you gain confidence, you know you can talk, communicate with people without any help. If her English is weak, let her take some classes.

Brown rice sucks tongue.gif doesn't have any texture. I know its good for health and all that, but I don't eat rice every day, I eat only on weekends. Even my thinly toned white husband hated brown rice laughing.gif

PhilippinesJasmine rice
I loved the smell too, so I tried to use it for making rice pudding...........BIG MISTAKE tongue.gif

I usually use raw rice and loads of milk, let the raw rice cook with the milk, the measurement is like -- for 1 cup of rice I take around 6 cup of milk and then once the rice is cooked I additionally add a whole can of condence milk, so my rice pudding is really thick, anyways using Jasmine rice wasn't a good idea for rice pudding because the rice broke in itsy bitsy pieces.

So going to stick with long grain for rice pudding, but other than that, I am really loving Jasmine rice.

PhilippinesWow, the Philippines!
QUOTE (loveaboo @ Jun 19 2009, 11:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
And alright...Maybe hunting is not the right word, maybe not even prying. If the foreigner goes out of his way to meet a someone or find someone, I'm not sure what word should be used...But anyways, maybe PREFERENCE is the better word for that.

Honestly, I don't understand what the fuss here...Some foreigners prefer filipinas, just like some prefer other nationalities. It just happened that based on the OP's VJ statistics, there are more filipinas involve in a relationship with foreigners, than the other nationalities. So what?!?

I think it just goes to show that more foreigners PREFER filipinos. For those raising your eyebrows and before you make hasty comments, maybe you should analyze it and maybe you'd realize that there must be something really good about filipinas why these men want to marry us.

I think the world will be a lot nicer if there's not much judgemental people...Also, I think we should all learn to respect choices and preferences of other people.

Problem is self entitlement. Stating over and over again how one clan of people are better than others. You have no proof of it. To see it realistically, people usually don't marry other nationality, so still for most Americans their own other American spouse are the best. How many American neighbors of yours are married to foreigners? None of mine for sure.

And then there are these sites and everything involved which advertise a human being or the whole clan out here to be the best for your needs. Advertisement has a great role in our modern society, no wonder it is such a big industry. Even if you have a good product and you can't advertise is, no one is going to buy it but even a shitty product with a beautiful model can sell a lot but that doesn't mean it?s the best product.

So stop exhibiting yourself as a product material. All those sites which claim that Filipinos make the best wife, well they are primarily Filipino sites, what else would you expect from it? And if you read their literary genius they do portrait Filipino women as submissive ones, the ones who would put husband?s need first.

You are a good wife, good for you; you have a great husband, good for you again. But saying everyone married to Filipino are happily married forever is a bit of going overboard.

I won't post again in this thread; I did say what I had to say. Peace.

PhilippinesWow, the Philippines!
Ok, you Filipino girls. I do like you and all that and I am not the type to bait, but seriously, don't you think this slogan of yours -- WE ARE THE BEST WIVES.........is getting a bit too far?

And about posting pictures of couple who have a large age difference, well I can't because that's against TOS rules and I know where to stop even if I don't want to stop. But you can always check the Visa Journey Gallery section and know and see what others do see there. I am no beauty queen, heck I am fat and all that, but I am not married to a grandpa either.

2 things I have objection about this--- We are the best wife, foreigners choose us than anyone else.

Number 1-- Have you lived in any other household where the guy is American but the wife is from some other country and not Philippines? By your statement that you do make the bestest wife, you are insulting me and every other woman of other nationality saying how we aren't cut for loving our husband. I didn't use the word caring, because I am sure my husband can take care of himself, if he needed a caregiver he should have lived with his mom or could have hired someone.

Number 2--Do you really want to show your national heritage as being the chosen one as in a married material? Is that the pride that being a wife is everything in life, and that too a submissive wife, because a lot of you have attested in here that you let your man be the king of his castle. Really?? what about your own position, what about you being the partners, what about you having a say on finances and all that.

And don't tell me its only the foreign men who pry upon Filipino women. I was an avid chatter back in the days and would always get IMs from Filipinos enquiring if I am a male or not........to clarify I had asexual id, so no one really knew my gender by reading my id name. My husband has also got a lot of those IMs, hell even my 58 year old dad get those, girls asking money after 2 days because they are in desperate situation.

I don't want to keep ranting, but it would be nice for you girls to accept the reality. There are people who are looking for a way out of Philippines and they can and will do anything to achieve that. You read it everyday how an old man gets scammed by the young Filipina. I say it?s the fault of old man too, but whatever.

Try to be a bit more humble towards other people, not every one who isn't married to a Filipino is also married to a monster. If you think you are doing a great work by asking your husband the first thing--- If you ate the food or not, you are wrong. I won't toot my own horn but there are people who have done more than that and they do it every day.

Peace out!

PhilippinesMy horrible interview story at USEM
Wow, sorry for what you went through. But it also shows a very good reason for the USC petitioner to be present during the interview. It helps a lot both emotionally and also if these kinds of situations arise for the USC to ask for supervisor.

Goodluck with your life ahead and do try to forget that CO like a rotten wound.

The OP didn't list your delicacies... but if you enjoy a little tongue every once in awhile or testicles... More power to you!

I see you looking down upon others because of what you said exactly

May be you need to do your search more often, ever seen French cuisine? They eat some of the things which you give to your pet smile.gif

I love Anthony Bourdain and that man always says -- How the greatest cooks are from the poorest parts of the world, because they know not to waste anything, they use the last possible ingredient available and make something incredible with it.

I don't want to have a war with you. But I really hope you would have an open mind about the world and world cuisine. Yes people coming from poor areas do eat things which rich people dont. If you see European history, potato was poor people diet, and look what potato is now all over the world?

Point is just -- One man's trash is another man's treasure.

2. Dinuguan (or what he called chocolate meat)
3. Fish belly
4. Tuwalya (ox tripe).
5. Balot......

Most of this ###### is not fit for human consumption with zero nutritional value. For starters, animal stomach, intestine and blood harbor E Coli.

I eat to fuel my body and choose wisley what I put into it for that purpose. All of what you list, typically end up as pet food ingredients here in the US. That is the disparity between 1st world and 3rd world.

May be, may be not. I am sure you have heard or seen of people eating cow tongue, testicles, balls, etc in US. Also worms, at least here in the city I am living in, they have this fall festival where a lot of vendors from all over US presents a lot of "weird" food.

I take offence on your statement. No body is forcing you to eat anything, so don't look down upon something which you don't like. If you think US is the holy place for healthy food, you should check the facts again. I have never seen this much intake of sodium back in my old country compared to US. Every fast food restaurant is filled with sodium infected menu. I don't like it, I don't eat it.

People from all over the world have known to use every last bit of meat, tree, vegetable in whatever way they can. So get off your high horse and look around the world.

PhilippinesDoes your wife think the US is too cold ?
I am from India but I come from the same climate as in Philippines. I came in Nov. 2008, and yes it was too cold for me, I am in Midwest. It wasn't just the cold, but it was also breathing problem along with the cold, a bit of fast walk would have me breathing for air, I never felt my throat this dry before, I would wake up in middle of the night catching for breath. My husband used to keep the temperature at 80 degrees all the time, yes we got a nice bill for that but I didn't care it was just too much of cold for me.

Fast forward, living here for 1 year now, 65 degree is t-shirt weather for me now, I am doing much better than my USC husband in coldness department. We went for a walk today, it was 19 degrees, after a bit of walking I let my husband use my beanie because he was shivering; once we got back home he wanted to switch on the heater to 75 degree, I really didn't care about the heater. My breathing is much better, though I use a humidifier these days and it helps.

Both me and my husband are amazed at how much I got adjusted to the weather in a year's time, I think I am lucky that way because I read/hear other people's experience and it takes them more than a couple of years to get adjusted. Guess it depends upon your body after all.

hey, you know what would be a very good solution??
Make her aware of how much you earn, how much taxes are, the expenses, the bills, the groceries per week,
let her know how much money is going into the savings, fill her in on all these.. and believe me she'll have an eyeopener...
well it works with me lol.. hubby lets me know everything, i am a shopaholic but I do like looking at a bigger digit on the savings account so I don't go overboard with it.. I know that works with my parents too.

or you could also try just giving her a budget for an entire week, and let her know she must be able to spend that money for all the food you need, so that she'll be aware of the prices too..

Women from the philippines are supposed to be really good at budgeting, and our country is not full of kings and queens...
I think she is abusing the blessings your family has...

good.gif good.gif Totally agree with this post. I am not sure how involved she is with your earnings, so it might be a good start to show your earnings to her. Awareness is good start, have some long term goals for her, like if she can save XX amount within 3 months, she can buy something bigger for herself.

Not just individual goals but have goals as couple as well. I would assume you have your own house and all those luxuries, so find something like a trip together to some exotic place or getting a cabin up somewhere. Point is if she knows exactly knows where the money comes from she will have more respect towards it.

As a kid we never had worry about money, you don't born with knowing the value of money, your parents provide for whatever you ask for but at some point when your parents start involving you with their household budget and say it directly how hard or easy it is for them to provide, one starts realizing things much faster. May be that's what she needs to do, realizing the value.

About Jasmin rice, may be try amazon, I buy rice from there, much cheaper than the price you have stated plus its home delivered.

I do remember the post Estadia is talking about, think the lady is from Germany.

Since you are the one who is taking care of your son, do you have any papers from court saying you have the sole custody of your son? I think that should work or if you can find something similar to that, can have a notarised affidavit stating the same.

I would suggest to go for the interview, apart from her getting a moral support, you can also raise questions at the interview if something goes wrong. Being the USC you do get a right to question or challenge them, whereas your fiance will just have to accept whatever they give out.

Since I do assume that you are going to go anyways to pick her up once she gets the visa, then going a few days earlier won't really hurt you.

Best wishes for the interview smile.gif good.gif

One thing you need to consider is that, if you get married in Gibraltar and go for k-3 visa, your interview will be held in that country or may be Spain, not sure about that(whichever Consulate's jurisdiction Gibraltar comes under). But basically with k-3 visa, interview is held within the respective country where marriage took place.

So your other option is i-130, that is CR-1 visa, where there is no such rules and you can give your interview in Ireland.

Best of luck to whichever path you choose rose.gif

Good day

Police certificates are valid for one (1) year and you will need 2009/2010 income tax return with W2 along with your I-134.

I agree, it is better to be safe than sorry! I read that Jamaica required all police certificates to be re-done after June 24, 2010 so that wouldn't apply to him. However, I think you are right - better to have him get the updated one just in case. Thanks for your advice!

Hi all,

My fiance applied for a tourist visa in June of this year and was turned down because he could not prove sufficient ties to Jamaica.

He still has his original police certificate dated in June of this year. Does anyone have any feedback on how recent the certificate needs to be? I read that the police certificate does not expire for one year, but I want to make sure that is correct before his interview.

Thank you!!

Hmmm I have been member of these forums for 2 years now and Asia:South always seems to be so quiet, I really wonder why?

Can't people be more active here, not just immigration talks but a bit of chit-chat and mundane talks? No Eid mubarak? No Happy Dashera?

And what's with people not saying thank you once you have gotten your answer? Now I am not saying everyone does that, but sadly a lot of you do that and it breaks my heart into million little pieces sad.gif

Well I just hope we can have more talks around in this subforums, desis helping other desis on adjusting to the new life in USA, about things going back in their home country.

Well blast away!

I am not sure how long will it take for the passport to renew, you can renew your passport one year in advance of the expiry date entered in the passport You might want to email Consulate General of India, San-Francisco (as I see you are from California).

About changing your Father's name to your spouse name....No, you don't have to. At least in my passport's biographic page both my parent's name are listed along with my spouse's name. So they will add your spouse's name along with your parent's name.

You can change your name any time you want to, look into forms and affidavits of the site I gave you, it has forms for Changing names. Personally I would suggest you to change your name before you apply for your 10 year GC, that's because you can apply for 10 year GC with new name and won't have to pay extra $400 if you want to change your last name once you have received your 10 year GC.

Hope all this helps.
