PhilippinesBar girl and K1
While I would agree that one's livelihood doesn't make a person, I mean no offense on what I'm going to say next, I AM A FILIPINA, AND I AM ON K1 AS WELL, BUT I AM NOT A BAR GIRL. And I certainly didn't like the fact that we Filipinas are stereotyped as one.

God Bless Everyone.

Just a suggestion, the yellow envelope is just regular paper, it tears easily if youre not careful, so open the second envelope, take out your passport and visa and reseal it. You can photocopy it even if its inside the plastic. Thats what I did, the NAIA personnel is very thorough in inspectioning the packet for tears, as well as the Immigration Officer on your point of entry. So be very careful. Goodluck.

are the NAIA officers going to take the yellow envelope out from the plastic and inspect it?

No.

Actually yes, the NAIA officer took the yellow envelope out from the plastic and inspected it. After she was sure that there was no tear on it she put it back on the plastic envelope.

My fiancee was at my interview (was at the Embassy with me), but they didn't interview me with him. I was alone in the interview. I saw another couple there too and her fiancee didn't interview with her either.

fiances and husbands present during the interview doesnt really determine the outcome of the interview. You may have the moral support but its your general readiness and completion of all the docs required that matters to the consul.

QUOTE (PrettyFlower @ Dec 19 2008, 02:10 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
here's my very own experience at st. luke's extension clinic aka SLEC.

december 15, 2008
arrived at SLEC at 7am. guards checked my NVC letter, appointment letter and passport. told me to have the NVC letter and appointment letter photocopied. went across the street to have this done.
tip: do not listen to people outside telling you what to do. if you have a question, ask the guards or any SLEC employee.
returned to the guards and gave them the photocopies. told the guard i was a K1 applicant.
he gave me the personal data sheet form to fill up, gave me a priority number and stamped my hand with the SLEC seal.
filled up the forms.
tip: black ballpen. dont forget!
went up to the reception, had my picture taken for SLEC security purposes.
SLEC people checked my papers. then told go to pay the fee. it was 10, 454.50. might change day to day.
tip: bring pesos. dollars not accepted.
then off to the xray department. handed over the forms. waited for my name to be called. xray done.
next was the blood test.
gave my papers to SLEC people. they had me sign a waiver and wait to be called in for a blood test.
next step was the vital signs. the longest of all procedures.
tip: since this one takes a long time in between, its a good time to grab a bite. if you have food, eat. but dont let the guards catch you. if you have to leave the premises, ask the people in the counter if you have time to run out and get lunch or brunch. i brought a sandwich with me but had to duck when the guard drops by. i didnt want to go out and miss my name being called. oh and bring a bottle of water!
so my name was called for height and weight records.
another long wait, then eye exam.
another very long wait, vital signs.
another horrible long wait, time for physical exam where you have to disrobe completely for a doctor to examine you.
once approved, i moved on to the immunization area. was interviewed for the vaccinations i had done.
tip: bring your records if you have one. if not, get a note from your doctor. if they ask you if you want your extra immunizations at SLEC or in the US, always say you want SLEC to provide them because that is included with the fee. you paid for those immunizations. and its probably gonna be really expensive if you get them in the US.
i was told to come back the next day for my immunization vaccines and for releasing. time check: 4:30pm.

december 16, 2008

as written on the forms, 1:30pm appointment at the immunization area. went to the counter and gave them my forms.
a long wait again for my name to be called. very long wait. im talking 2 - 3 hours of waiting.
tip: again, bring snacks. i had cookies to discreetly munch on. and a bottle of water to keep me sane from the dreadful long wait.
named called. immunizations done. i had three shots. ouch.
was told to go to ground floor for releasing. so i passed!
waited again for my name, which again took a long time. went up to the counter when called, listened to last few instructions left. and was told all my papers will be forwarded to the embassy in preparation for my interview.
mission accomplished. time check: 5pm.

last few tips:
always ask guards what the heck is going on. if you ask the person next to you, chances are he or she is applying for new zealand, australia or canada. or might be as clueless as you. or maybe a US applicant but in another category. if you must, ask the people you think are on the same file. like ask a fellow k1 applicant so you would not be so lost after all.
bring extra 2x2 pics. i left mine at the hotel on the second day and they asked for it at the releasing counter. luckily, the told me i could bring them to the embassy and submit the photos there.
have an extra photocopy of the appointment letter for them at the releasing counter. this i forgot. but then again, i was told to i could submit them at the day of my interview at the USEM.
bring a coat. the airconditioning could be very cold at some floors.
bring water.
bring snacks.
i would suggest not to bring a book or an ipod or anything. cos you have to attentively listen for your name. and SLEC's paging system isnt the best. you might miss your name called while listening to music or reading an interesting book. just stay awake.
tell the truth. some applicants lied about things - example... last time one had sex. that can be determined at the physical exam. and frankly, why lie? but i dunno. one applicant was told to come back after a month when the doctor found out she had sexual contact that day.
do not go to SLEC if you have your period.
recall the latest date you had your menstrual cycle. if you dont remember, make a really good guess. dont make it up though, they will still know in a way.
wear comfortable clothes. do not wear heels. you have to run up and down the stairs.
do not bring your fiance to SLEC. well you can, but they cant go inside. no one can go in, only applicants. so ask your mom, friend, fiance or family, etc to wait for you at the hotel or at the mall or somewhere else. but not along the humid and dusty streets outside SLEC. remember, its a whole day wait. make that two days.

on a scale of one to ten. ten being the highest. it was a 7 for me.
the waiting was terrible, but once youre called, they get on it right away.
theyre clean. they know what theyre doing.
place is packed always but chairs are sufficient enough to let everyone sit.
SLEC people are not so nice really. some look strict or mean. but for the benefit of the doubt, tired with probably over 100 applicants a day, i wouldnt be the friendliest too.

i guess thats it. im glad i passed.
hope this experience can at least guide you all.

good luck!!!

Hi, thanks for posting your medical experience, I am happy for you,, For me I am just waiting now for the USEm Letter and then we call to have my medical and interview by January of 2009.
Thanks be to God.
Can i ask how did it go with the vital signs examination, and the Physical Exam. what do they ask? what are thier concern about it? thanks a lot..

this was the long wait of day 1 for me.
first they get your height and weight.
then you wait again. felt like an hour.
then the eye exam. nothing really scary. they let you read those optometric charts and take note of those readings. i wear reading glasses so i had to read it twice - with and without glasses.
then another painful long wait.
now the vital signs. they only took the pulse rate and blood pressure. nothing too scary.
now the longest wait from all procedures that day... the physical exam.
you go in the doctors cubicle. undress. grab a robe. lie down. they check for breast lumps. check your lower abdomen. any scars on your skin. or tattoos. i have a huge scar from scuba diving and i had to explain that.
they let you get on the fetal position. they check your vaginal and ####### area for any lacerations, marks, lesions, etc.
i was told that thru this they could tell if one had an abortion, a miscarriage, given birth, etc. also if you had any sexually transmitted diseases.
those who had sexual contact that day were told to come back a month after. and do the whole medical exam again.
the doctor asked questions like what my hobbies were, what i do for a living, how long have i been working. if i smoke, if i did drugs. things like that. lifestyle check.
nothing to be tense about.
they were just not friendly as your average doctor but as long as its all done. didnt care much if they were nice though.

i had done my medical yesterday too! dec. 18. 2008. thats the first day. but they told us to be back on dec. 22 for the immunization and releasing. i arrived in SLEC at 5am fill up the forms. i was # 18 on the line and SLEC operation time is 6am. your number will be called and you will give the form you fill up together with your passport, 2x2 pic, and the case number and confirmation letter/email, and the approval letter. sad to say i dont have approval letter because we just called USEM for appointment. and they set us appointment without approval letter.. the girl on the reception are so mean!!! mad.gif she almost shouted at me. because i reason out that the USEM allow us to set appointment. anyway it is not really a problem because the reason they asked about he approval letter is to make sure that your case number is really true. because some applicants are not sure about their case number. so i got really irritated at the attitude of the receptionist and i called my fiance to call the USEM on what the heck is that approval letter all about. and the USEM said it is not necessary!! they said if you dont have approval letter just show a print out visa appointment online. show it to them on the releasing day.

thanks to prettyflower for giving me info on what to expect when i get there. it is really helpful.

i did bring food to munch on. but didnt get the chance to eat because i was busy talking to the fellow K1 girls. hehehe .. its good that you meet and talked poeple there to ease the nervous. just have fun but be alert coz your name will be called.

im ready for my second day on SLEC!
kicking.gif

told you they were mean. but let them be.
the important thing is to have the medical exam done and over with.

good luck on the second day!

LOL oh yeah they are mean. Experience-wise, the doctors are not as mean as the receptionists. One of them actually yelled at me, I yelled back. I didnt pay them almost 11,000 Php only to be yelled at, I mean what happened to Good Ole Customer Service?

PhilippinesAn Honest Discussion About Fil/Am Relationships
Hello my VJ family, this is a nice thread, here are my answers, straight ones, with no BS in between.

Question 1 - for American men: Did you seek out Filipinas through a dating agency or marriage broker, and if so, why?
YES. I think it's obvious WHY.

Question 2 - for the Filipinas: Did you ever place an ad or set up a profile with any international dating agency or marriage broker, and if so, why?
YES. Again, very obvious.

Question 3 - for the American men: What are the differences (including physical) between your Filipina spouse and your ex-wife?
N/A

Question 5 - for the Filipinas: What are the differences (including physical, age) between your kano spouse and your last boyfriend or ex-husband?
my exBF - white, 6'1" tall, handsome, a month younger than me, very caring, loves to goof around, down to earth, with a great sense of humour, but chemistry was just not there.
my husband - white, 6'3"(yes I love my guy tall),VERY handsome, 2 years older than me, big heart, with the patience 5 times bigger than his heart, and lastly, he's the best thing that has ever happened to me.

PhilippinesAbortion Question
I was asked if I had children before or if I had a miscarriage, I said NO to both. They dont look into a woman's uterus or anything like that, they just examine the genital part from behind. So I dont think they would know if you had an abortion or not, or they wouldnt be asking you if you had one.

PhilippinesI-129F Filing and Filipino Middle Names
QUOTE (sha&al @ Mar 15 2009, 11:15 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello VJers,

I'm in the process of filing for my fiancee's K1 visa application and the one thing i'm curious about is her Middle Name. my Fiancee's middle name is actually her mother's maiden name. Now on my fiancee's birth certificate, it says middle name and then lists her mother's maiden name.

Do i use this middle name on the I-129F application or should I leave it blank since it's not a real middle name?

thanks in advance for your input!

Take care,

Al

Yup thats how it is in the Philippines, your middle name is your mother's maiden name. My husband(then fiance) put my mothers maiden name as my middle name on the I-129F petition. Everything went ok.

QUOTE (k1couple @ Apr 7 2009, 02:19 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
During my research on the visa interview, I've come across a couple of things that I'm wondering are true:

First, I read that if you met your fiancee through a family member or a friend, it's a warning sign for the interviewer. Why would this be?

Second, if you tell the interviewer that you want to work in the States, this raises another red flag. I guess there are obvious reasons for this, but my fiancee does plan to work because we want to start a family and hopefully have a house of our own someday. If we want these things to happen, I can't be the only source of income. So, what is she supposed to say?

Thanks for your input.

Hi there. I have read so many topics here about fiances having to go thru the anti-fraud department at US Embassy Manila of having met the foreign fiacee thru a relative. So if I were her, I'd be careful when prompted with those type of questions. I don't think those people were denied though, they were just investigated further, and thus prolonging the process. But Goodluck to you.

PhilippinesMedical Exam Questions
QUOTE (AvoidDaNoid @ Apr 21 2009, 01:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My fiance just completed her first day at the medical exam.

What can she expect for Day 2?
Is there some kind of interview? She said a lady asked her questions but I thought there was a more in depth one.

Also...will she have a Sputum test or do only certain people have to take those?

Sorry to sound stupid, but what exactly is this dreaded Sputum test I keep hearing about and why would she need one. I read some stuff about it having to to with TB. She never had TB before so is she safe?

Many thanks

Day 2 is for the vaccination and the release of the results. They don't really release the results to your fiance but she has to sign a paper so they could release it to USEM. Anyway, if she asnwered YES to the question HAVE YOU EVER BEEN EXPOSED TO SOMEONE WITH TB? then most likely she will be asked to go under the TB skin test, even if the lung X-Ray is clear. If she answered NO however, she has nothing to worry about.

Get a Checking account with State Farm Bank, they are an online only bank.

Now you have two options:

Option 1:
Easiest, ask them two issue to DEBIT cards in your name. They will and each will have a unique number. Don't activate one and mail it to her in a birthday/holiday card.

Once she receives it go ahead and activate it then give her the PIN.

Tell State Farm Bank that one of the cards is for use in the Philippines so they don't block her withdrawls.

Option 2:
Add her as a joint to your account. This will require a W-8BEN and some work on your part plus you will have to explain to them that she can't be authenticated yet as she's not in the US. It's more work but worth it to have a joint account in the US (demonstrates comingling of financials).

Now have them issue both of you DEBIT Cards, they'll mail them to your US address. Don't active her's, mail it in the card.

Once she receives it you need to make a 3 way call with her on the line to State Farm Bank (man I love MagicJack), explain that she can't be authenticated bah blah, a little work, they'll see the notes, blah blah... The rep will agree to activate the card and she can customize the pin.

Why is State Farm Better than your bank down the street? Well they refund 100% of the ATM Fees! Since they are an Internet only bank they acknowledge your only access to cash is the ATM and refund the fees.

So there you go, Free money Transfer to PH for US!

BTW, wake a note of the card number before you sen it to her, just incase it's lost stolen or "something else" happens so you can easily cancel it.

This is very helpful. I am currently paying over 30$ to wire money to the Philippines.

Philippines2008 good, 2007...not so much
My consul only asked for the latest ITR. Just make sure to provide employment letter from your employer, also make sure it states Permanent employment, and your last 3 paystubs.

PhilippinesGot a white slip
The girl whom I met at my interview had the same situation. Her fiance is 73, she's 30. And the consul thought it was a big issue. And like you, she was given a white slip requesting for CENOMAR. The interview date was November 17, 2008, she returned to USEM the next day and submitted the document, and by January 9, 2009 she's in Hawaii with her beloved. And no you were not denied, just go ahead and give them what they asked from you, you'll have your visa before you know it. Goodluck sis.

PhilippinesI NEED SOME POINTERS, TIPS, ETC. ON THE K1.
Very important are the photos of you together, the signed G325 (all 4 forms), hotel receipts or plane tickets of both of you, 2 passport size photos of her, and the signed Letter of Intent to marry within 90 days. The advice that says taking a photo holding a newspaper with the dates very visible is a very good one.

PhilippinesFirst Tagalog Word or Sentence/Phase your SO learned?
I love this thread. The first phrase he learned was of course Mahal kita. Then he asked me one day what is the Tagalog translation for baby, next thing I heard from him was Mahal kita sanggol (I love you baby!). Now he is really getting good at it. He would say Ako punta kubeta tae, everytime he wants to poop. Ikaw masama babae everytime I am being naughty. And this is my favorite, Mahal kita ng buong puso ko sanggol (I love you with all my heart Baby) and I hear it everynight before I go to sleep.

No, the child does not need parental consent from the father as long as she is traveling with the mother and have document that show she is the mother like NSO birth certificate of the child.

Please read the guidelines/rules for traveling minor from the government's website.

This is not true. When I had my interview I met a girl who has a 7 year old daughter (she is from VJ too) who was on a K-1 and K-2 visa. She is not married to the child's father but still the CO asked for the letter of consent from the other parent.
