IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTravel to USA while I-130 pending
QUOTE (paulryan21 @ Feb 23 2009, 06:54 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi - firstly thanks to everyone for posting. This information has been very helpful.
My wife is from Atlanta, I am Australian and we have been living in London.
My wife headed to the US after Christmas while I waited on London for my approval.
I was able to visit for three weeks in late January, early Feb. The London embassy website says visits are permissable. I followed that up with a call.
To be extra careful, I flew via Shannon in Ireland where they do immigration clearance before you actually take off.
I took a bunch of paperwork including the lease for our place in London, letter form my UK employer, lots of stuff.
What did I need - absolutely nothing !!!! Not a single question was asked - a lot of stress endured for nothing.
We had a great three weeks and I was able to be present for when we had the first scan - we're expecting our first child in September.
I now have my interview date confirmed and plan to be back in the US very soon.

Thanks again to everyone for posting.

hi all... thats cool to know... did you tell them you re visiting your wife? im really scared about trying to get in the states while the paperwork is in process... now we got the VW in my home country as well.... maybe that will help? and how is it that they do the immigration clearance in Shannon? I mean then what do you do when you get in USA?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAlien petition for a maltese citizen
Hi everyone!

My husband to be will be applying for my alien petition soon and since he is in the military he will be gone for deployment as soon as we get married (and i be back to my home country - Malta), so he won't have a mailing address where we can receive the receipt, etc. except from an FPO address. Is that still good to fill in as an address?

Thanks a lot and hope to get a reply from all of you soon! whistling.gif

my husband and I will be sending our papers by next week. We indeed include pictures from the wedding and other pictures we had when he was with me here in Philippines.
I instructed him to paste those pictures to a blank sheet and write some captions describing the pictures. this will help the reviewer to have an idea how we shared good times here. And just a tip, when your spouse sends you the G325A, also fill out the DS230 but dont date it, ask your spouse to just sign the first part of the DS230 but not the part 2. this will save you a lot of time, let your spouse sends you everything that s/he is required to sign but don't date.
Regarding proof of marriage include anything that can help build up your case. My husband and I will include the contract of lease for the apartment we stayed here, joint bank account records, might as well include your boarding passes.. stuffs like this.

Hope this helps you. good.gif

e-mails, phone records, chat logs, bording passes, hotel bills, flight itineraries.

You can alwasy photocopy the pictures and send them so you don't send the originals. THat's what we did and then put in the cover letter that all documentation can be presented in its original state if needed.

so it will be better if i place some emails and pictures too....more opinions will be kindly appreciated!

I thought I wouldn't live long enough to say this: I PASSED THE INTERVIEW!!!!!!!

The interview was really easy and smooth, and there's not much to tell: everybody was really polite and friendly, the Lisbon Embassy is very small, and we were only 6 people waiting.

My interview was at 9:30, so I went there at 9. Passed through security, and waited 5 minutes. Another 5 minutes for the first lady to check all my documents, and again 5 minutes until the consul called me. She asked me if I could speak English, I said "yes", so the interview was in English.

Questions:

1) Is your petitioner your husband?

2) Did you meet in Portugal?

3) Were you in vacation?

4) What does your husband do for living?

5) Is your co-sponsor a friend?

6) Are you going to live in New Jersey?

7) Do you wear contact lenses? (this one was the most difficult tongue.gif )

And that was it! I had to pay 10 €, and next week I'll have all the documents at home.

I want to THANK YOU very very much for your support. You are great, I couldn't do it without your help.

Good luck to all,

Lilia & Daniel

good luck!!! and all the best to you both!

QUOTE (wsr @ Dec 11 2008, 06:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The only way I know how to reach someone is if you go into the automated option that says you want to change your address. Obviously this may not be what you want but it doesn't matter, they will transfer you to a person who will say something like "Based on your choices from the automated system it seems as though you would like to change your address" Just say No and then they will go through a series of questions first to see what you are calling about.

They might be closed now so you may have to try tomorrow.

It would be prudent to wait for the green card to come in the mail but technically, you could catch the next plane back home. Google "maintaining permanent resident status" for details on that.

what if after obtaining permanent residence and live for a few months in the states i will have to move to europe coz husband will get orders there since hes in the military?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCHOICE OF AGENT RE DS3032
QUOTE (MMW @ Feb 18 2009, 01:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Generally speaking the USC is made the agent because the mail is faster and turnaround time for the documents can be quickened. Is there someone in the states that can receive the mail for him and then get it to you. It is a simple process for the "agent" and what we did since I was with my wife during the visa process was to use me as choice of agent for my wife and then in the address section we put my name but used C/O my sister's name and that is the way NVC addressed everything to me. and then my sister just forwarded everything to me here either via E-mail or DHL for things that needed hard copy for processing.

Thanks for your replies. No there isnt really anyone trustable to be our choice of agent. I think i would rather take longer and do it all myself!

Hi all,

Right now we re in the process of my I-130 - I'm the beneficiary and my husband is the petitioner. I was reading the link about the NVC process:
http://www.visajourn...he_NVC_ShortCut and it says that normally the petitioner is the one who is the choice of agent, that is the one residing in the USA. Will it be a problem if I would be the Choice of Agent since my husband is on deployment when the time will come for us to fill that too? Are there any of you that went through this and the beneficiary was the choice of agent outside the USA?

I would greatly accept all your replies.

My husband and I filed I-130 package to Chicago office on January 15, 2009. Moneygrams Order was cashed on January 28, 2009 which means that everything is probably OK with our case, but we have not received NOA1 yet so I am wondering what to do.

Should I just wait for NOA2?

We cannot see the application number on Moneygrams Order unfortunately.

My second question is related to which office does our application go to after Chicago? As my husband is residing in New York, will it be Vermont office? Or that depends on different things?

Many thanks in advance.

The petitioner can call USCIS and tell them that you didnt get the NOA1 yet... thats what happened to us and they gave us the case number over the phone....Good Luck!! smile.gif
