K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow do you change your name after marriage
Hi All,

Once you are married and going through a K-1, do you change your name anywhere apart from the bank etc...
I take it you just start using your new name on any further forms for the Goverment. I went to change my name on my SS card today and they said they can not do it until I inform the INS, but how do you do that, there is no option when you call customer services.

Anyone been there/done that?

Thanks,

Emma

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresName change on Forms
QUOTE (Liebi @ Jan 8 2008, 02:19 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Did you sign the marriage certificate in your new name?
Then you legally changed your name upon marriage. File the AOS in your new name so all immigration documents will be in your correct name.

Change your name on bankaccounts and documents like passport etc. as well. I did that after I sent my AOS of.

My marriage cert has my old name on it, as the pastor told me to sign as my old name was displayed.. thank you for your help. I think I will just start sending of my new forms with my new name. All very confusing. blink.gif

Hi all,

Any help would be SO appreciated.

I have just got married and am now applying for my AOS form etc.
Do I now put my new name on the forms?

I have not changed my name with anyone else yet and am not sure if this means that I can legally put my new name down on the forms...

Thankyou for any help, emma

Does anyone know......

Is it correct that the K-1 visa is only relevant to your entry into the USA, seeing that I am in now, the visa isn't really needed for anything, is that right?

Hi all,

I have my interview for my AOS end of March, and I have just seen that my K-1 Visa expires at the end of this month!? Does that matter, has anyone had this happen to them?
It feels as if I will be here without a visa waiting for my interview.......

Thanks for any help

Has anyone changed their name recently for their passport?

I have read the notes for the C1 form but it does not appear to be straight forward (to me anyway) unsure.gif

I am just applying to name change, do I need to send in a new photo, (my old passport is only 3 years old).....

Do you also need to send in a birth cert?

Any help appreciated.

PS, anyone know if America has passport booths here, I have never seen any, apart from the goverment offices (maybe)?

Thanksx

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhats the best way to get the divorce paper
It sounds as though your husband is military. If that is th ecase he will probably have used JAG (Judge Advocate General) in his divorce. If he does not have copies of his papers then JAG may possibly be able to help - bit of a long shot but worth a try.

Also just so you know the military will also have facilities for him to have copies certified free of charge on post/base.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisting partner during K1 visa processing?
Thanks for the replies.

We are planning to marry in the States, and have another ceremony and Honeymoon in the UK and Spain, respectively, shortly after. I plan to file Advance Parole straight after the marriage (how long does that normally take?). Unfortunately some close family members are too poorly to travel to America.

Cheers!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisting partner during K1 visa processing?
Hi all,

Probably a straight forward answer to a straight forward question: can I visit my fiancee on a visa waiver while my K1 visa is being processed? I last visited her just prior to filing the I-129f which was done in early December. I am British so can use a visa waiver for traveling, and have lived in the States for 10 years prior to that on F1 and J1 visas.

She can't visit me as she has just started a new job and we need the time for a honeymoon! So the only other option is a weekend in Canada - which while nice isn't very long and is rather expensive for such a short trip!

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-156K and evidence of engagement and financial support
Thanks to all who responded!

I shall include a letter stating that as per the website's instructions about evidence of financial support, I have not attached a copy of the I-134; however, I will be bringing the I-134 to the interview.

I'll get as much post-I-129F evidence as I can.

I've not had packet-3 yet, but hopefully it won't be much longer till I receive it.

Thank you.

Nope you will need more evidence. Pic, letters, how you guys met, if not how are the ongoing relationship. more evidence the better

Thanks for the reply. However, all the "how we met" stuff, including pictures and joint utility bills/bank account, was sent with the I-129F. Do we need to send all that again with DS-156K?

The only stuff I have since that is a digital picture taken a Christmas, and plane ticket receipts.

P.S: What about the evidence of financial support?

Cheers!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-156K and evidence of engagement and financial support
Hi,

I have just looked at the DS-156K, and (surprise!) I need some clarification:

1) Does a signed statement by me (the beneficiary) stating that I intend to marry within 90 days constitute as sufficient evidence of engagement? All my receipts for the ring are in the States (I bought it while I was living with my American fiancee - on a J1 visa).

2) The London embassy mentions on their website that an I-864 (evidence of financial support) is not required. I have also read that my fiancee needs to complete an I-164 that I can just take to the interview. However, form DS-156K states that I need to file evidence of financial support. So, do I need to send any evidence of financial support when I send the DS-164K? If so, what (the I-164 is going to take a while to be done)?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhere can I find my I-693?
QUOTE (Jomo @ May 30 2008, 01:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
When you have your medical, it is best to ask the doctor to make a copy of it for you. If not, you may have to see a civil surgeon in the US and spend a lot of money having them transcribe the information.

We ended up not doing that; but Andre had had the nurse mark all his shots down in his shot record. We copied that and sent it in with our AOS.

Thanks for the reply.

The DS-3025 I was given is a photocopy which lists all my shots (but no other medical info) and is signed by the doctor who examined me. Is this a suitable alternative to the I-693?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhere can I find my I-693?
Hi again,

I seem to be posting a lot of messages as of late.... thanks for all the help!

My latest question: I have read about needing an I-693 (medical report) for AOS. When I had my medical I was given a DS-3025 and got my X-ray with my visa. How can I get a copy of my I-693? Is it in the "sealed" envelope which is opened by immigration when you first enter on a K-1 visa? If so, do they give it me, or keep it? Also, should I take my X-ray to the States or get rid of it?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A address question (soon to move house)
Hi guys,

As the foreign fiance, I am moving to new rented accomodation in a couple of weeks. Our I-129F is all ready to go, but am I right in thinking we should hold off a couple of weeks so I will be able to put my new address on the G-325A, thus avoiding the hassle/delays of trying to get my address ammended at a later date?

* If we filed now, how would we get my address ammended once I move? Would this delay our application?
* If we file a couple of days after I'm in my new accomodation, will it raise any eyebrows that I've only lived there a couple of days?
* For the question "Applicant's last address outside the United States of more than one year." on the G-325A, this needs to be an address I've been at for more than 12 months? i.e. if we file after I move, I would not put my new address as the answer, but my current one?

Thanks in advance,

Adam

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSetting a marriage date whilst waiting for the visa
I would probably say don't book anything but once i started the visa process we booked a wedding date, now i am waiting for approval and praying that i get the visa in time. Its a big gamble and i hope it pays off.
Its easy to say wait until you get the visa because you still have 7 months before you have to be married but its damn hard to wait for 7 more months when you've already been waiting for what seems like an eternity for the visa.
It is a risk but if you go for it then good luck.....to us both!

1. First of all can me and my girlfriend apply for the K-1 while she in in the uk with me or does she have to be in states.

2. And if we can start the k-1 with both of us in the uk,will it effect the timeline of our process or make things more complicated?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresk1 help
Hey guys, firstly I just like to say to our amazement we recieved our noa2 less then a month after filing our i129f, which by the sounds of it is awesome. So anyone about to post go via vermont as they seem astonishingly quick at present.
We received our NOA2 on the 8th of march(we only posted our i129f on 14th feb). I'd just like to know if anyone can tell me how we know if the US embassy(in london) have recieved our information and how close we are to getting package 3. Will this simply come up on the uscis updates because as yet this still just says NOA2 approved and I would have thought they would have sent it on by now. We have received the letter from the NVC stating they have recieved it.
Sorry if any of these questions sound stupid but I guess like most people on here they are doing this alone and rely on the support and knowledge of you guys.
Thanks guys

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTravel advice and proof of relationship
Sorry about that, just to say different people have had different experiences to this question but I'm on the packet 3 stage and I've just been over to NYC to visit my fiancee. All I took was a bank statemnt and a letter from my employer to state when they expected me back at work. As it happened I didnt need either, they never even asked why I was there. I think it all depends on the customs official. Surely the fact that you've already started the process legitimately should work in your favour.
Anyway I would say dont worry about it, I think you'll be fine.

Hi everyone,

We are currently waiting to receive the NOA2 from CSC (K-1 petition filed in January). I was planning to travel to the US to see my fiance at the end of June but now that things have picked up at CSC, I'm not sure if it would be wise or not. I will have moved in with my dad just a few days prior to the trip (didn't want to renew the lease for a full year and have trouble trying to terminate it). That would leave me with basically just a letter from my employer to prove my intent to come back here at the end of my vacation. Do you think it would be enough proof? Are there any other proofs I could bring with me to show my intent to return? I can't think of anything else.

I also read somewhere on this site that once the background check is done, traveling might mean an additional delay as they would have to do some additional checks. Any idea what the additional delay might be? A week? A month? More? Also, at what stage of the whole process is this background check done?

I was hoping for this trip so we could take pictures of ourselves together since we didn't when we saw each other last summer (didn't know about the need for those). We talk on Skype just about everyday and e-mail as well. Can't prove the Skype conversations so would e-mails alone be good enough to prove our relationship at the interview?

I really don't know what to do now and what to think and need some input from you folks. Hope you can help me see more clearly in all this.

I literally logged on to ask the same question! I will be awaiting the response from other people as well. Just in case, my listed friends are checking my page for posts, I will also initiate a post as well: Threshold of Evidence of relationship...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNo Adress in USA yet!
QUOTE (Kathryn41 @ Sep 1 2008, 08:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Use your mother's address.

One thing to consider before you commit yourself to staying overseas for the whole process . . . once you get married your former fiancee/now spouse will need to submit an application to adjust status from a non-immigrant K-1 to a Permanent Resident. It is called AOS. Until you do this she has no legal status in the US once her 90 days have passed. Part of this AOS process includes submitting an affidavit of support where you have to provide proof you have sufficient US based income to support your spouse and she will not have to seek any type of public assistance. You affidavit needs to be accompanied by income tax records proving your income, by a letter from your employer and sometimes by pay stubs, and bank records. If you are not able to meet the affidavit of support through income you can use assets but they needs to be 3 or 5 times (I don't recall which the amount you need to have for sponsorship, and again you need to submit proof. If you can't provide either then you need to have a co-sponsor who will provide that guarantee. Just so you are aware of this requirement so you can be prepared.

Thanks.

My father should be helping us with that one.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNo Adress in USA yet!
I left my home in Denver to come to England a few months ago. When I left, I forwarded my mail to my mother's home in Texas.
I plan on being here until my fiance can return with me (with his K-1) doing the entire process from overseas.
We are just starting this process. We plan on living in Denver once we get back, but do not know the address yet.

Should we use my mother's address for our proposed place to live? Should I say that's the last place I lived? (I was there for two weeks between England and Denver). My mother still receives my mail there.

If we do use her address--will it be okay to use Denver as our POE? Will it be okay to not end up living in Texas? Or marrying there? We will be in Denver once again. Even though thats what it will say on our documents?

Thanks for your help!

The wait for the while K-1 visa process is usually between 6 and 8 months - that's going to be nothing compared to what you two have been through!
But obviously each day you spend apart from each is other is like life without meaning....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMilitary Expedited K1 Visa
QUOTE (YuAndDan @ Mar 12 2009, 07:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Typically a military expedite has to do with getting the K-1 visa approved BEFORE the soldier is deployed overseas, not to get the K-1 approved before the soldier returns to the USA. In this case more than likely they will say there is no reason to expedite because in any case sooner or later the soldier will be in the USA BEFORE the K-1 visa is issued.

Pregnancy is not a reason to expedite.

Hey guys,

I'm hoping you might be able to help me because I'm a bit confused with this whole process.

I'm a British citizen and planning on getting married to a US soldier. He's currently deployed and wont be home till the last week of May at which point I will be 35 wks pregnant. We were going through the visa's and trying to find out what to do when he was told he could get the whole process expedited. We sent all the paperwork in and he phoned them and they told him that we should recieve something in the post within the next 5 days verifying that its been done. I asked him to call them and find out how much I was gonna have to pay on this side / if I still had to do all the police reports and interviews etc and they told him that I didnt need to do any of it.

I was just wondering if anyone else has been through this and knows if I definatly dont? I dont wanna get my hopes up that its sorted for it to all to turn out not to be.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Also if you are pending deployment get your company commander (or whatever the name is, lol) to put a letter for you to send (and take copy of it, and everything else, for your records!) about the pending deployment - this is one of the few reasons an application can be expidiated.

*pending deployment AFTER return to US, not from current to US

Our guess is as good as yours - or the timeline that USCIS recommended you use to estimate the time. Did you follow the link provided and get an idea? If so - that is your current best idea.
You keep asking if we 'know' how long it will take - and people have said several times that we can't guess. We don't know. No-one knows. How can we second guess the people actually DEALING with your case?
I'm not sure what you want us to say - should we pick a date out of thin air and post it? How will that be helpful?
