I took clothing and personal stuff, and all my important papers. 

 

I was able to sell my house as is with everything in it so that was a big help, everything else went to the dump, Salvation Army, friends or was sold.

 

I stayed with friends the last few days in the Netherlands with no other possessions then what I was taking to the US.

There's a few pages, but read them all - there's so much good information about the next steps. Someone even posted the "packet 3" letter they received with their personal info blacked out.

Based on the responses in that thread, the packet 3 letter will be sent to the beneficiary in the UK and be just one letter with a link to the embassy where you can download all the forms and mail them in. If you want to take a look at them now and start filling them out, the link is here: http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html and all of the forms you need are on the right side of the page.

The process as I understand it is (if I'm wrong, please let me know):
1. Receive "packet 3" letter.
2. Download DS-230, DS-156, DS-156K and DS-157 and send these forms to the embassy with your case number noted. Don't send the forms or try to book the medical exam until you receive the packet 3 letter. Also, you don't need to send the police certificate, evidence of financial support, photo, all that extra stuff just yet. Just send the forms (DS-156 and DS-157 should be prepared in duplicate)
3. Schedule your medical exam.
4. A few days before your medical exam and after you have your police certificate and all the extra stuff, send DS-2001 and cover letter to London embassy to schedule interview.
5. Get letter with interview date - aka "packet 4."
6. Go to interview and get approved :)
