We didn't have a witness when we applied for the marriage license (which is $60 CASH, btw), but we needed two for our religious ceremony. Generally, I believe you only need one for the marriage itself.

If you opt for a celebrant to do a beach or location wedding for you, very often they can help with a photographer and witness (sometimes one person fulfils both functions) and assist you with flowers/music/attire etc.

Hi Everyone,

I'm starting to get a little antsy...... I've sent the petition for removal of conditions almost a month ago....No check has been cashed as of yet. Should I start panicking already...Is there any way that I can find out what exactly is happening. I phone number to contact.

My husbands permit has expired. I'm in a lot of stress right now, going crazy just checking my bank account to see if the check has been cashed. Anyone's advice is greatly appreciated, I know most of us are on the same boat :(

Most countries allow the K1 applicant to go to the local Consulate/Embassy and request the police clearance. My wife had to get a Japanese police clearance as she lived there when she was younger. All it involved was a trip to the Japanese consulate in Manila, pay the fee, and wait about a month. The Japanese consulate however, would not even begin the process until they had a letter from the US Embassy in Manila saying it was necessary and providing her case number. She had to pick up the letter from US Embassy and carry it to the Japanese consulate. In about a month the Japanese consulate called her to pick up the sealed Police Clearance. She then carried it with her to the interview and provided it to the CO during the interview.

While it seemed a hassle at the time, and waiting a month seemed forever, we laugh about it now.

I just read the South Korean procedures and they seem to indicate that a Police Clearance cannot be obtained oustide the country. This indicates to me that their must be some sort of "waiver" procedure. Best bet is to call the US Embassy in Manila and ask them how to go about it.

Hello everyone I have a few questions and I hope someone here can help me to answer them.

1. When sending the marriage certificate to the embassy for report of marriage, what constitues a "certified" copy, would a black and white printout from the county clerk with the clerks stamp be sufficient?

2. How long does it take to received the needed papers back to then go ahead and renew the philippine passport under the married name.

I have a unique issue due to the fact that my wifes greencard was produced using her mothers maiden name as her middle name, however, per her customs her middle name should have been changed to her fathers last name. Since the greencard is incorrect, we have asked for a replacement with the new correct name, however, we haven't heard anything back about that yet.

Also, my wife is planning to go home on November 20th and she will be staying for about 40 days, and her plan was to get the marriage report done and then have her passport renewed while she is in the Philippines, is this a viable option? We cannot afford to go to the embassy to get it done here, as it is too far.

Last but not least, when coming back to the USA, will the fact that her current green card has the wrong middle initial affect her reentry if her new passport is correctly done with her fathers last name as her middle name. The green card has her mothers maiden name as the middle name. Will this be a problem? Or if she takes a copy of our marriage certificate through customs should this be ok until we get it resolved. We hope to have the green card resolved before she leaves, but we all know how long it can take USCIS to reprint a card...or do anything for that matter.

Please help me figure this out for those of you that have done this before.

I used the services of a lawyer and don't regret my choice. When I filed I didn't have the guidance of this site. I had a huge fear of making a mistake on the forms or sending in the wrongs forms and causing a delay on an already lengthy process. As someone who "retired" from work around age 40, with a husband who is retiring from the military aged 42, the citizenship versus green card issue is becoming relevant to us. We would like to spend a few years in England before we decide where to permanently settle, and this generates the "do we want to go through the spousal visa route AGAIN? or go for citizenship that may have no relevance if we decide to live in the UK permanently.

Yes, renewing the 10 year card is easy. Yes, we could seek a re-entry permit in advance if we were certain it was a temporary move, but with the uncertainty of the future it's a very pertinent question. Citizenship guarantees the right to return, without any hassle or additional paperwork. In the long term it's more cost effective than endless renewals of the green card. The only disadvantage to citizenship is the tax return requirement. :)

It's like the oath ceremony, when you have to disavow any association with any other land. Advanced Parole is issued to allow you to return to the US to complete your "in process" AoS after returning "home" for an emergency situation. If you carry a copy of your NOA1 and any other appointment letters (biometrics/interview) that support your current status then you shouldn't have a problem UNLESS you are out of status on your H1B or have an overstay issue.

You shouldn't really need to say anything, just present your documents and answer any questions addressed to you directly.

What happened to you was horrible and it's made you view the world in a different way. Moving away from all he knew has made hubby view his world in a different way. Sadly, because you are both trying to cope with fear, loss and change at the same time you've come up against a wall of "I need this, please!" and "Sure, sure, but I need THIS instead" and while you're both expressing your honest feelings, neither of you are moving to fix the problems because you're focused on your own needs as individuals.

Allow me to be a little blunt (and please don't think I'm being cruel, I hope to help you!) and say that you need to take control of your sense of security again, for yourself, not simply focus that onto your husband. It's a burden that he can't really take on board on top of his own feelings. I know it's incredibly hard to get down to resolving it without someone you thought you could absolutely 100% rely on but ultimately you need to get past your fear or it's going to dictate your entire future. Nobody else can restore your sense of security (well, unless you have the entire military camped out in your front and back yards, right? wink.gif ).

Have you had any counselling for anxiety and fear? Joined a self-defence class that will teach you how to be aware of your environment without viewing everyone as a potential threat and protect yourself should you be put in that situation again? Checked the internet to see if there are any women's support groups in your community? Checked out if there are any Neighborhood Watches that you could join? Anything that would help change your psychological "victim" approach to the break-in. If you can't get past it then you aren't going to build a happy and successful relationship with any man, not just your husband.

Although it's hard to deal with his sarcasm and his anger, it's a positive sign that the love is there as those emotions aren't part of being disinterested, so you have a reason to push to succeed if you can get past your disappointment, frustration and negativity.
