CanadaCan It Be True??? Case Complete??
Thanks. I figured maybe the domocile thing didn't apply to us as my spouse lives and works in teh USA and I remained in Canada during this process. NVC knows and has all his original stuff from the I-130. The AOS support, when he sent in the originla he only sent his taxes and w2's from last year and they seemed to accept that. I will just take the original with me. This is starting to get stressful now as its getting closer. Just want to make sure all my T's are crossed and I's are dotted. Thanks again.

Proof of domicile in the usa is rental/lease agreement, letter from current employer, car lease etc but it is only for the us person and really is only needed if you spouse has lived outside of the US.

I think you mean for the affidavit of support correct? That would be letter from employer, w2's/tax returns or tax transcripts for 2008,2009,2010. I did Electric Processing so I just brought the original stuff and a copy of it all.

Do not get too stressed out over it all, it seems like a lot of paperwork to bring and I am sure you will be asking tons of questions but once it is over with it will feel like it was a breeze. I will be waiting for a APPROVED from you :)

CanadaCan It Be True??? Case Complete??
Thanks Canadiangal. You have been a great help to me and many others on here. I was just reading what is needed for montreal. What is proof of domocile in the usa? I have never lived in the usa. And support of AOS, is that just the tax papers and such he sent in with the original AOS or do we need more?

Congrats! Your almost there :)

CanadaCan It Be True??? Case Complete??
I called and it is indeed complete. YES!!! They tried to schedule an interview in May but was booked solid so they are trying for a June date. We will be married a year on June 18th so that would be a nice anniversary present. I secretly hope there isn't a cancellation in May because I have sent away for a new passport in my married name and I won't get it until around the 23 of May. Taht would be a ###### if i got a date and had no passport. I am just glad it is almost over.

Is this the wording one gets in an email when NVC has completed a case for CR1??? We have been waiting since January.

Dear Sir/Madam:
All documentation necessary to complete the National Visa Center's processing of your case has been received. As soon as an interview date has been scheduled, the applicant, petitioner and attorney (if applicable) will be notified.
The applicant should NOT make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment until the US Embassy or Consulate General has issued a visa.
The US Embassy or Consulate General may require additional documentation at the time of the interview.

CanadaWe Have An Interview Date!!!!!
I don't know Lise. I am phoning the medical place tomorrow morning and asking all that. It would be great if I can get the medical on MOnday and have results for Weds interview. Hate to have to spend a weekend there alone as well as the following three days. Will let you know.

This is absolutely fantastic! I was wondering if you had gotten an appointment!
If you got a medical on the 27th would you get the results in time for Wed?
I want to spend the least amount of time in Montreal, I can spend money better
elsewhere than a hotel.I hope to book my appt soon, I am sending my K1 packet 3 tomorrow.

Have a great day,
Lise

CanadaWe Have An Interview Date!!!!!
Ahh that is too bad. I was trying to plan a party of sorts so we could renew our wedding vows but had to keep putting that off. Our 1st anniversary is June 18 so now the party will have to be in July. At least now with a date I can plan (almost scared to tho, thinking something will change or go wrong somewhere). Can you rebook the trip to Hawaii??? say in two or three weeks after the interview so you can be sure her passport is in hand??

For me, its kind of over, but not quite. I was silly enough to believe that the whole process would only take 6 months no problem, so I'd already booked flights for my fiancee and I to go to Hawaii on the 8th of August. Seeing as her interview isn't until the 3rd, the chances of having the visa in-hand in time are slim. I'm going to try for an earlier appointment, but I'm pretty much resigned to not being able to make that flight. Oh well, I guess thats what I get for making plans!

CanadaWe Have An Interview Date!!!!!
Thanks. thats great you too got an interview date. The last hurdle is finally over. Congrats to you also.

congrats! Looks like they gave you CR-1 applicants much earlier interview dates than the K-1 applicants. The earliest date I could get was August 3rd. At least I have something now though!

I've also heard that you need to send the border your car importing paperwork 72 hours before you import your vehicle... anybody know if this true??

Yes I have heard of that, I had to deal with that when I temp imported my car for 1 year. I do not know if it depends on the border crossing though. I went through North Portal, ND and I know that they require that. Check with the POE you intend to go through, I think when I called Portal there was an automated message about importing vechiles, the fax #, and the time required to get them the documents by fax.

Never heard of that before, I didn't call in advance. Just showed up, and they processed it on the spot! Took 10 mins!

Which POE were you crossing when it went to fast??? I'm going through at the Coutts/Sweetgrass one in Alberta....

CanadaImporting my Honda
For Honda, you have to call Honda Canada for a recall letter and American Honda for the compliance letter. I find it weird that it is so different between car manufacturers. I used the contact numbers provided from previous VJers that have posted the numbers, so I'm assuming I am following the right procedures...

If anyone reading this has to go through the same process, ask for SARAH at American Honda - she has been extremely helpful and has now offered to look into previous cases of importers from Alberta and see exactly who I have to contact.

Thanks all for your advise!

That's craziness. You used the contact number they give you on this sheet, right?:

Contact List

And you're calling the Canadian number?

CanadaImporting my Honda
So I have followed all of the necessary steps that have been posted on this website to import my Honda with me into the states. I have my Recall Clearance Letter from Honda Canada on the way, but American Honda is proving a much harder process. I provided them with my VIN and then they requested I fax them a copy of my passport or drivers license, proof of my vehicle registration, and my bill of sale. I faxed over everything the next day and they came back to me saying that my Bill of Sale is not good enough. I bought my Civic used and the only Bill of Sale I have is the one I have between me and the lady I purchased the car from - I dont have HER original bill of sale from the Honda dealership.

So the (very nice, I might add) lady helping my "case" at Honda America directed me to go to a local registries office where I can obtain a Bill of Sale (they also call it a Transfer Form - she said it's the same thing, which also confused me... something to do with being able to transfer the vehicle between provinces??? I triple clarified with her that they were the same thing but yes, she insisted that they were). I called AMA (my local registry) and they directed me to the Service Canada website (which I found nothing on it and got fed up and called them directly) who then directed me to Service Alberta - no luck - who then directed me to the Alberta Motor Vehicle department of the government or whatever they are called, who then told me they had no idea what I was talking about. BAH! headbonk.gif

Has anybody experienced this?? I'm running out of options, but my car is in such good shape with very low km's and I really dont want to leave it in Canada!

CanadaInterview Letter Received
Interview sceduled July 28th in Vancouver!! Anybody else??

Some of the wonderful people I met at my medical last month mentioned that I needed to bring an Express Post envelope to the interview so that they could mail me my approved (hopefully) visa, although my interview letter doesnt request this?? I'm assuming I will just bring one anyways to be on the safe side, but did anybody else's letter exclude this? How would I know to bring one if there was no VJ?!

CanadaVancouver Interview Tips?
Hi all!

I have my interview tomorrow at 1pm in Vancouver and I am starting to FREAK OUT!!! I was just wondering if anyone could share some tips from their experiences? I have read a previous post of an interview but I'm assuming they dont ask the exact same questions every time, so maybe any out of the ordinary quesitons they asked you??

One other question - I am flying in from Edmonton tomorrow morning and will have my purse, cell, etc with me. I was told that there is some place across the street that has lockers to store these things in... can anyone share more details about this? (hey, it's the small things that count! )

Any help is great, thanks guys.

Canada3 more approved in Vancouver
I just wanted to thank everyone here for being so helpful - VJ really put me at ease (or as much as I could be!) for the interview and I have received a lot of extremely helpful responses since joining. I really honestly would have been lost so long ago without the website!

I am happy to say that I witnessed 2 visa's approved on Tuesday, as well as my own and I couldnt be happier!! Thanks everyone!
