My husband and I use Skype to communicate. We also use his cell but its a pay as you go so no record of calls. How does one print off anything from skype?? I can't do a screen print of communication and can't get how to print off any messages sent. Any help would be appreciated. On another topic, I have not read anywhere that anyone has ever had to show the book of proof of relationship at the interview. Should I still have one put together??? Wasn't that already proven when I sent the package in the original I130???? We have just paid our IV bill so now waiting on instructions of what to do next. Am filling out the DS-230 to have it ready when they say to send it. Thanks.

CanadaDS-230 - Travelling to USA
Thanks for the replies. I will put something about the numerous trips made back and forth when I lived in Ontario. We would go for a Sunday drive. Just figured out also that because I am tied in electronically I will ahve to do the DS-260, not the 230. I think now I have to find address for those 18 places I have lived since age 16. I was married to a serviceman so moved all the time. Sheesh, picking my brain for this stuff hurts!!!!

Question 35 on Part I of the DS-230 askes to list all previous visits or residence in USA. Does that mean as in ALL your life or just since you met you significant other? I had visited the US to visit relatives way back when I was 16 and then again at 17, then went to Hawaii in 1996. When living in Ont I crossed quite regularly just for Sunday drives. At that time passports weren't needed, just a drivers license or birth certificate. What do you all think? How did some of you answer that? Thanks

CanadaNeed help on DS-260
One more question. I feel so idiotic. Under children, all my children are grown and so is my husband's (he is American). When it says step children do I put his grown children there? they both already live in the states. I have no step children from my previous marriage.

I am presently trying to fill out the DS-260. I have moved 21 times since the age of 16 and have most of the addresses. Some are small town Canada so only have Box #'s. Does that matter??? It says mailing address so that was it. Also I was married to a military man and we went to Lahr, Germany for a year. Somewhere I read that you need a criminal record check for every country you lived. Well in my case it was all Canadian and had nothing to do with the German police force. I was classified as a dependent under my service husband. I lived in a Canadian area with all servicepeople, like living on base, shopped at CAnex etc. Would I need the police report? It was also 1981 and Lahr has been closed down for years. I do have the Canadian mailing address that people used to send me mail through Belleville, Ontario. Would that be good enough? All our mail was went to us by military aircraft from Belleville so didn't even go through the German mail system. Please help. I want to get this form sent in.

Canadaprinting
hi. I have completed the DS-260 and submitted it. Has anyone else had trouble printing the form and the confirmation? All mine comes out kind of scripted. For the confirmation page it proceeded to spit out 9 pages of garbage. Just wanted to know if anyone else has had any problems with it. Thanks

CanadaCanadian bf got denied at the can/us border, can he try again???
I know someone who was given a i-94 for one year to be with her husband in California during the process. I choose to stay in Canada as I couldn;t work down there and I needed to be able to come back and forth across the border. My kids all live here and my mother is 92 so needed to be able tocome back at a moment's notice. Its hard to be apart but we are managing

I had gotten denied driving across the border with my husband 3 weeks before our wedding. but I had no ties to Canada at all because we were told A LOt of wrong information from the USCIS phone in line. I was fingerprinted and flagged, and they said I would need strong ties to Canada to try again. In our case, we were told to contact them later on (The Chief there had given us her card) and luckily for us on the day of our wedding, I was issued an I-94 lasting 1 year! I couldn't leave and come back, I was stuck in the USA but, I got to be with my husband for half of my CR-1 Immigration process!

It really is depending on the officer. If he just refused him and turned him around you should be fine. I hear it's usually cleared within 24 hours. But he needs to get a job, or start paying rent somewhere.

We were VERY lucky and fortunate how nicely it happened for us even though once I got back to finish up my paperwork it was still another 7 months before our interview!

CanadaCanadian bf got denied at the can/us border, can he try again???
I had trouble at the border once. I was told to either turn around and go home or I could go down for 7 weeks, an I-94 was put into my passport. I crossed back when I was told to, actually a day earlier, then 3 weeks later turned around and flew down. I again was held up at the airport because I was trying to visit for 3 months. I told them I had my son's wedding to come back for and also I showed them a letter my then fiance had written to say he would take full responibility for me, such as food, clothing, place to stay etc. I again was given a I-94 for 3.5 months. I was never denied just questioned as to my intentions. I didn't have a job then, lived with my sister, no mortgage and didn't have thousands in the bank. If you have money you can cross with no problem I found. The first time my husband came to visit me, he didn't have a return ticket, he proved ties to USA by owning a home and had a job, they asked how much available money he had on his credit cards and when he told them they stamped his passport for 6 full months!!!! I was a little ticked at that. LOL. Since starting this visa process I have never had a problem visiting him for however long I want. Unfortunately I started work so going to visit is impossible. We are up to filling out the DS-260 so hopefully not to long left in the process. Haven't seen each other since Christmas.

CanadaMontreal Interview: Arrive at 7:30 and fill out a DS-230!!!
Congratulations. thanks for the tip about the DS-230. I filled out the Ds-260, didn't think I needed the 230 but will take it along just in case.

I just got back from Montreal where my wife had her interview for her CR-1 yesterday. The good news is, she got approved!

We arrived at the consulate at 7:30 AM, and the guards were letting people in. After we went through security, there were just 2 couples in the waiting room where you wait for the elevator up to the 19th floor. We snagged the two seats closest to the elevator. At 8:00, another guard came down in the elevator and asked everyone who was applying for an immigrant visa to go up in the elevator. We got in the elevator, went to the back, and were the first ones to come out on the consulate's floor because the back door opens when the elevator gets up to the consulate.

We followed the staff to the place where you line up to get your number, and got called up to the window right away. But, there was a problem! Daylight Saving Time started on Sunday, but their systems didn't know that DST starts earlier in the year than it used to. For some reason, their system doesn't let them give out numbers until after 8:00 am. So, if any other VJers were there and wondering why we were slowing things down, now you know! After 10 minutes, they finally just gave us a post-it note with our number and sent us to the waiting area.

Our number got called at the next waiting area right away. Everything was in order, except that they didn't have a DS-230 from us (we'd done a DS-260 right from the start). He told us we would have to fill out a DS-230 by hand because they're still transitioning to the DS-260, even though we had a printout of the DS-260 with us. I think they just like looking at the DS-230 better while asking questions. He checked through our documents and asked us a few questions about how we met, where we were born, etc. I was a bit nervous and slipped up and said I was born in the US, which caused all kinds of confusion until we sorted that out!

Anyway, after we were done with the first agent, we went to the waiting room and filled out the DS-230. The worst thing was that, right as she finished copying all of the info from the DS-260, my wife remembered that we had originally filled out a DS-230, and I remembered that I didn't send it in and just put it in the immigration folder that I had with me. Grrrrrr!!!! We gave the form back to the first agent, he checked a few more things, took my wife's fingerprints, and then sent us back to the waiting room again.

The DS-230 thing ended up costing us a bunch of time. The two couples who were right behind us in line to get numbers finished up around 9:30. We ended up waiting until almost 11:00 to see the next immigration officer. We went into the booth, raised our right hands and swore to tell the truth, and then answered a few questions where he basically checked a few things from our forms. He looked at his computer for a bit, and then gave us the approval letter!

So, just like the title says, Jacques's guide to Montreal IR-1/CR-1 interviews is:

  • Get to the consulate right around 7:30
  • Sit near the elevator in the downstairs interview and then go to the back of the elevator so you're first in line to get a number at 8:00 am
  • Make sure to bring a copy of a filled-out DS-230 with you

CanadaElectronic Processing and Online forms DS 260 and DS 261.
Schooling definately not, and on employment it was like I said, I had to pick what type of employment I had, the address of the company and that was it. I am wondering if its different because of my age being in my 50's?? I wil be going back over it with a fine tooth comb before i actually hit send. LOL

I'm thinking it's cause they updated it and removed it from the form, so that information is not needed anymore. You're absolutely positive it didn't ask about previous employers or school at all? I get that they removed the exact dates being needed, but previous employers and school were still asked on the DS-230, so I don't understand why they would remove it.

I am also EP.Now I was reading your first link. It says on the addresses I need exact dates, not month and year. Well on my DS260 it was only month and year from and to. No where did schooling pop up and it asked what kind of occupation I had, only needed to really put in one, no phone number or supervisor name. Why does my form seem different from yours??

I am going for a CR1 and did my first attemt at the DS260 this morning. It took 3 friggin hours!!!! Mind you I had moved 21 times since I was 16 so finding those addresses was a pain in the butt. Then it kept rejecting Feb in any of the dates. Said there was a lag in dates so changed all the Feb dates to March and it worked. That must be a glitch on thier part. So with the CR1 do I actually mail the supporting documents in once the DS260 is submitted or do I scan and send them by email??? I still need a couple of postal codes for places that don't exist anymore that I lived in and a few missing addresses. Did a call out to friends and family for those, what is teh NVC going to do, send some roving reporter out to check out all the places I lived in for past 40 yrs???

Okay I am having a brain freeze moment. It must be the age thing. Anyway we are under a CR1. The DS-260 and all supporting documents have been sent to NVC. I phoned today and the message was "a packet was generated Mar 4, 2011 and will be sent out in next few weeks". Okay today is April 4. What exactly am I waitng for to be generated?? Will it be the interveiw date and time? I read somewhere that I am supposed to schedule that appointment but then somewhere else it says NVC makes that appointment. Can anyone help me out? This waiting so near to the end is driving me crazy!!! I have been patient but since I am signed up for electronic processing, how long does it take to generate a packet??? to me it would be an attachment and send.

CanadaWhat The Heck is up with this???
I electronically submitted my Ds260 on Mar 2, 2011. I have the confirmation email that they received it. I electonically sent in all supporting documents on Mar 13 and also received another confirmation email. I just phoned the NVC and talked to a representative. She says she shows on her computer that nothing has been submitted!!!! She did mention that it sometimes takes 20 days for her computer to show that it was reviewed. She told me to resubmit everything. I know I have read on visa journey somewhere NOT to resumit documents, that it screws things up. She also said to check back in a week to see if it appears somewehre. What should I do????
edsotherhalfFemaleCanada2011-04-05 11:37:00
CanadaSo Friggin Frustrated
I sent in the DS-260 and all supporting documents on March 13th. Got the confirmation email. Today I get two letters from NVC. First off they want all the supporting documents again!!! This time I have to write the case number in the top of all documents which are original, am going to attach stickies to them and scan them again. I sent them all in one PDF folder but apparently they can't open it. The second letter was to my husband saying they are waiting for his financial information and the Affidavit of Support. Well that was sent in months ago!!! He has the name of who it was delivered to. So now its like starting all over again. After they are resubmitted then have to wait another 20 days for review and maybe then get the interview letter. This is so frustrating. I thought things were going through without any problems and then this. Man they sure try people's patience don't they????

CanadaIs DS-260 required to take????
Thanks. I tried both of those and it comes out garbled. I do have a DS-230 all filled out and I also wrote out all the questions on the DS-260 for reference if asked. Not much I can do if the damn thing won't print.

I waS able to print out the online DS-260 for my hubby...I just highlighted it all then pasted it in an email and emailed it to myself then at the library I was able to print it out....it came out to 2 pages. Try that. Plus we are going to take a filled out DS-230 also. Or try copy pasting in word document. Hope that helps! :star:

CanadaIs DS-260 required to take????
I was in the same boat. I have moved 23 times since I was 16!!!! I put box numbers on some of my addresses as they were in small town Sask and PEI. Also if I put in a date of Feb it rejected it so had to change any from Feb to March. They are reviewing it now so I guess i will hear if they don't like some of the addresses or just how picky they were. Oh at one time I lived in Germany but was there with the Canadian forces so just put the box number for where people sent us things which was in Belleville, Ont. Good Luck

I was trying to fill out the DS-260 form and hit a road block when I had to list ALL addresses from age 16 on. Just curious to know how picky they are since I'm having a few memory issues with a couple of addresses while I was at university. The DS-230 doesn't ask for specific addresses, just the name of the city which I can easily do.

Thanks

CanadaIs DS-260 required to take????
That is the problem. No matter how I print it is it in codes, doesn't show any of the information I put into it. I am going to have my husband try from his computer tonight to see if he gets the same thing. I tried saving into a PDF and copying it from my documents but its the same garbled printing.

I would have a copy of the DS 260 as well as the DS 230 filled out just in case because judging from other posts i have read recently at the Montreal embassy they always ask for that as they are not fully on the online forms yet. Just print out what ever comes out as long as it has the information you inputted then its ok.

Apparently Montreal is not set up to print off the DS-260 so most people now have to fill out the DS-230 on the spot. I have one of those filled out but just scared they are going to ask for the DS260 and I don't have a copy as it won't print.

Well i haven't done it yet but I've been reading up on it and the information I read for the Mexico embassy is that you just fill out the DS 260 and the info gets forwarded to the embassy. Then you sign the copy they have on the day you go. That is what it looks like to me, but like I said I haven't gotten to this stage yet...

CanadaIs DS-260 required to take????
I filled out the DS-260 online and tried to print it after. All I get is garbage on printing. I have been trying since from the review page and it won't print!!! Does anyone know if I am required to take a copy of the DS-260 to the interview in Montreal???? I am a little worried as I cannot get a copy. I have read in reviews that they make you fill out a DS-230 at the interview which I was able to fill out online and print a copy of it. Thanks in advance for any help.

CanadaAGAIN with the RFE's!!!
Okay I sent in all the documents for a second time on April 9. April 15th I get another letter from NVC asking again for the AOS (third time now) and now a certified copy of my divorce (the one I have looks like someone typed it on their computer, no letterhead, hand written in spots). I phoned NVC and said "what the heck with the AOS?". He told me that no way was my file reviewed yet as it wasn't the 20 days!!! I told him "well obviously it was as I sent in 8 documents and they only requested a new divorce paper this time". Then he looked it up and explained the reason they again want the AOS is because i forgot to send it the barcode sheet!!! So now that has all been resent in. I will have to wait a week or so for the divorce paper as it has to come from SAskatchewan. I overnighted the request to them.

I am really starting to panic here now. I still have not been able to print the DS-260 but do have the confirmation page and a DS-230 filled out and printed. I am panicking that they will ask for my original DS-260 that I filled in online and sent to NVC at my interview. Also reality is setting in. I am actually going to be moving to the USA to be with my husband but leaving my three grown children behind and have my first grandbaby due in Sept. Also all of my family lives here. I am playing mind games with myself that sometimes goes to "what the heck have I done??". I suppose this is normal but man it doesn't help sleeping at night. I hope I can just hold it together until the interview and then worry about the move.

CanadaTime between medical and interview
I may just look to being there five days to just be sure I can get the medical results and the interview at the same time. I don't need soemthing else to hold up everything.

I had mine done at the same place. I had it done on Friday April 1st....(I decided to make 2 trips for several reasons) I paid to have it sent to me ($50 plus taxes) I called them on Tuesday to ask what courier they used and they told me Purolator. They told me at that time they were just waiting for some photocopies and that it would be sent soon.....Wednesday I went into town, when I came back around 3:30 pm, I had just missed Purolator being here with my medical...That was fast considering I had just talked to them the afternoon before. So if you count Friday, the day I had my medical....it was ready on the 3rd business day which was Tuesday. Nice thing about Medisys, they don't use the big xray, it is on a cd :-)

CanadaTime between medical and interview
That was what I was thinking, fly in and interview on day 1, pick up results day 3 and interview adn fly home day 4. I should have a date soon, just waiting for my divorce cert from Sask, email it in then should hear within the 20 days.

I am hoping to do the very same thing. For I have looked into flights and hotels and to fly to Montreal twice is not cost effective for me. And Toronto isn't any cheaper either. (plus taking time off work is not good either, I have no vacation or sick time to use).
I hope to get medical on a Monday and interview Thurs if possible???

CanadaTime between medical and interview
I have read that it takes 3 days to get results from the medical. So my question is this: Is that a full three days??? I am hoping on flying in on day 1 and having my medical the same day, so does that mean that on Day 4 I would pick up my results and have the interview on day 5 (then fly home after) or would it be medical on day 1, pick up results on day 3, and have interview on day 4???? As I live in Alberta it all has to be done in Montreal at the same time. Thanks for any advice you can give. You all went through this but can't find where anyone has addressed this subject. you would have to pick up your results the day before the interview to be there for 6:30 A.M. right????
edsotherhalfFemaleCanada2011-04-18 10:36:00
CanadaMedisys medical review
I will be coming in from Alberta also. I plan on flying in and having my medical on day one, waiting out the three days for results and then go to interview and hope to fly home right after the interview. Staying there 4 days would still be cheaper than flying back and forth. Now if I would just get the letter with a date on it.

How far is Medisys in Montreal from the US consulate? We are coming from Alberta for interview? It would be hard for us to go there for Medical and come back again for interview. I was wondering if we could be intervied the same week as the actual inteview date?

CanadaWedding Plans
We had our civil ceremony in June and planning a Renewal of Vows after all this process. I am not even picking a date until I at least have a letter in hand with an interview date for Montreal which should be coming any day now. Good luck. I have found with all this process that planning anything like a wedding or reception is almost impossible without final dates. it makes it very stressful.

I did call today. I was actually just phoning the recording line but a live person came on. She says they have received the stuff and it looks like everything is in now. they are reviewing and I should hear within the 20 days, or the end of this week, beginning of next. She can't see any reason why we wouldn;t get case complete soon!!!! She better be right

I'm so sorry for all this bs you're going through, I really hope you get through soon

Oh yes we have Skype. Thank God!!! But not being able to physically touch is hard. Times like these tho I think of my mum, who is 92. During WW2 my mum and dad were separated for 7 years and never saw each other once. My dad was stationed overseas. I asked her once how she knew who he was when he got off the train. She said she recognized him right away. And they only had letters which sometimes were months inbetween and were preread before handing out so couldn't talk too personal. At least we have letters, emails, phone calls and Skype.

Have you tried webcam? I know nothing can replace being physically next to your loved one, but (in my opinion) seeing the person while talking to them on phone is much better than just talking. It is for me for sure.

Thanks for the advice. I will start calling the people. Its nice to know there are people going through the same things. My family and friends here don't understand teh frustration.

Nvc can be a pain in the ####### at times. Due to my rfe which really they didnt even need at the time , I lost a bunch of time. All my friends on here ended up interviewing months before me as I got stuck in the backlog from Montreal, took 4 months for me to just get my date. I understand your frustration and all I can say is hang in there and call to talk to a actual person daily :)

Hang in there :)

I appreciate all the help I get on VJ. It is hard to sometimes read peoples timelines and see that yours is taking so much longer. Some people seem to get through NVC in a couple weeks. We have been going through NVC now for months. Everything had been sent in but then an RFE for the AOS again to be sent in, it was and then another RFE asking for the AOS once again!! Done. Then after I had sent in all the documents with the DS-260 I get an RFE asking for ALL the documents again!!! Done. Then an RFE saying they didn't accept one of my divorce decrees so had to send away for the certified one and then send that to NVC. Done. Now have heard nothing. When I call the recording it says a Checklist letter was emailed on April 16, (the last RFE) and they are waiting for it to return. (it was returned on April 28th). We have actually been with NVC since Dec 30, 2010. I am getting really frustrated and it seems I am never going to get to Montreal for interview and medical let alone get to Arizona with my husband before our first wedding anniversary on June 18th. Sorry if I sound like a depressed pathetic women but in reality I AM a depressed pathetic women right now. LOL. I haven't seen my husband since I came home after Christmas which was Jan 4, 2011. Wow 4 months today since I have been kissed!!! I just realized that. LOL. I know each case is different and handled so but ours is a pretty straight forward CR1. We are older, no kids to take with us, both divorced, no criminal record and such and here we wait. Thanks for listening. I am really trying to stay focused and keep a sense of humour about all of this but damn it gets hard sometimes. Agree???

You might not be doing anything wrong. For some reason, that step where you need to select your branch never showed for me either.

I wrote an email to contactus_en_CA@usvisa-info.com requesting help to register with DHL and they set it up for me the next day.

Here's the information you need to provide them :

Applicant ID # :
Case Number :
Passport number :
Date of birth :
Name in passport :
DHL Location :

You will know for sure it is set up when you log on the CSC website and your DHL location will be showing at the bottom right under the "No appointment" notice.

Hope this helps!

CanadaScrewed up DHL
I went into the site today to register with DHL but think I screwed it up. I did what the instructions said, added personal information and hit submit, it took me to a page that said "no appointments available" and there was no continue button, or submit button to hit from there. So now I am registered but no page ever came up that asked for my DHL location. Now what do I do to correct this problem??? I went in to edit but it just did the same thing. what am I doing wrong????

CanadaI-130 - What is typical timeline of NOA1 to Interview?
That depends on teh visa applied for. We are applying for CR1. Timeframe is 9 mos to 1 year to POE. We were 4 months at USCIS and have been with NVC now since Jan, still waiting for interview date. Good Luck and be patient. Is a longggggg process.

Hi All,

I know there are timelines/timeframes on the website but they are allover the place.
I just want to have an idea of what to expect for the number of days it will take until
we get an interview & final approval for POE.

I appreciate any advice! :)

CanadaLawyer for CR1?
That saying goodbye stuff is going to be a killer. My three children are here as well I have my first grandbaby due in Sept which I will be coming home for but then have to turn around and say goodbye to the granddaughter also. don't know how I will handle it all.

Saying goodbye to my family was the saddest day of my life. Coming to VJ to talk with those who understood that, though, helped me out a lot. Don't forget we're here for you. (F)

CanadaCan It Be True??? Case Complete??
I am thinking its because our cases are still at NVC. they still have to book our appointments so the case is closed but not sent to Montreal as yet.

Congrats to you, I got the same email on the 9th and called NVC and they told me the same thing. I have one question though, if we are still able to log into the NVC site, what does that mean?
