K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresComputer Help, PLEASE!!!
The best thing to do is use the true program for PDF, not use the browser extensions.

When you come up to a link that has PDF at the end, you need to right click and SAVE AS

save the whole PDF file to your computer (desktop or downloads folder) and open it in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat (if you have it)

If you have Adobe Acrobat Pro, you can save PDFs, with just the Adobe Reader, you can fill them out and print them, but no saving them

Start all over each time you do it.

Do not open the PDF file within the browser.

I think it will still be better going to JFK.. The layover is less than 2 hours and like you said, someone would need a minimum regardless of the POE.

I think I will stay a day in JFK, maybe we can visit the statue of liberty. Don't you think that will kind of be symbolic for her LOL

When I came back to the US from Russia, it took me about 2 - 3 hours to get through Dulles (Washington, DC), and I'm a citizen! For some reason, I actually had to be further examined when entering the US...

Anyway, I'm going to find a flight with about 4 - 6 hours of layover at the POE.

Don't feel bad about it. The lady interrogated me when I came back from the Philippines. Asking how I paid for my trip.
I have a pretty open personality and I would have loved to joke with her, but she works for the US Government. They are not meant to be funny. I think orientation told them so.

I would have loved to come back from Russian and use the line "In Russia, the trip pays for you."

I second this recommendation. If you can arrange the time, I would make a trip out of it for at least a couple days. For my wife and stepdaughter I drove a rented minivan from Washington State to LAX to pick them up. We spent that first night in So Cal and took a couple days to make the drive home, They saw some scenery and got acquainted. Raleigh is a lot shorter drive than that. Yes, I've made that drive too. :-) And many more.

The longest drive I have ever done was from East Carolina to muskegon Michigan. That runs about 17 hours of course I had a second driver and just this pass Xmas, I drove from NC to CT which said 12 hours but i made it in 10 with a 14ft Uhaul, my aunt couldn't keep up with me even when she had her car as a secondary. That is what she gets for buying a 4Cyl CRX honda. No acceleration at all.

I can sense your excitement. :).
Just wanted to know what Airline is your fiancee flying from mnl to jfk?
Also I agree that its better if you pick her up at jfk. I used Jfk before as POE. Coming from international arrival area and then going to the domestic departure for the connecting flight at jfk is hard to navigate. I had hard time navigation jfk when I landed there after visiting Philippines. And also, New Yorkers or atleast the people at the airport jfk aren't as nice as the other airport I have been to. So it can be intimidating for her.
Also leave at least 5 hours gap for your connecting flight. :)
Congrats!

Actually that is exactly how they are up there. They all have that "I'm pissed for the day" attitude to everyone that is not use to that part of the United States. I had to bite my tongue a few times when I was in New England because to me they were very rude, especially the driving.

I was at Dunkin Donuets in Danbury, CT and I asked if I could have my coffee substituted with a soda and he told me he couldn't do it. It was not allowed. Down here in the south, they are all on it.

Best thing about new england are the old country and just that its so beautiful up there. Where I live is so flat and ehhh not very attractive.

I know JFK well. Connecting times can be brutal. You need more than 2 hours. Four would be a minimum to be safe. As others pointed out, she needs to clear immigration, get her papers, then baggage, then customs, and there is no way you can be there. You will first see her coming out of the secure area with a ton of baggage. I do not know what airline she is flying on but I would bet she will arrive in the main international terminal, but may have to go to another terminal to pick up the connecting flight to NC. That is not difficult, but for a person not familiar with JFK, it can be very daunting. You must be there for her. Period.

Now a suggestion. I suspect you both will want to be "back home" as soon as possible, but have you considered taking your time doing this? She will be arriving in NY, one of the greatest cities in the world ( I am a New Yorker :) ) so why not take a day or two to see this city? The ride back to NC passes our Capital, and can be a great time to talk in the car while driving through some beautiful countryside. When will she have the chance to do this again?

Perhaps you haven't been to North Carolina on the east coast... Country side is all we have. LOL I can go to my backyard and find tobacco.

Yeah, I will have to see what is going on with her flight. Maybe I will have my dad come with me as a second driver. I am just going to ask to see how everything is going to go and once she gets the visa in her hand then some hard planning with the flights. I think going to New York would be the best, if I can get Atlantic, Georgia that would be just great. Ive never been to atlanta

It took us 4 hours total to get through customs. It all depends on how many need to come through customs that day, for us our flight was full and half of the people had to go through customs. JFK is a hard place to find yourself around and since your fiance has never been there LOL good luck having her try to find her next connecting flight. Some flights you actually have to leaving the building connect to a tram and go from there. I went to get my fiance and I brought him here as I knew just how difficult his connecting flights were gonna be.

Someone mentioned to fly her into Washington, DC but it requires a connection in between. Manila to JFK is a straight shot.

I really want to get this as painless as possible. It is only 90 dollars from my house to JFK so its no trouble. I think it will be better to grab her from customs and we both can come home on one plane. She is not familiar with what they do here in the United States. So it is best if i travel with her.

No, you can't hold her bags while she's being interrogated. She will clear passport control and immigration before she picks up her bags, then pick up her bags and clear Customs before she sees you. You can help her make the transfer of luggage and the connecting flight.

Awww... really... I guess I'll be her bag boy for connecting flights.

Just out of curiosity. When I was flying and I had to show ID I showed them my Veterans ID card and they didn't accept it saying it wasn't valid.

I told them "Didn't you know the VA is part of the government?" Then no light bulbs came on.

Now that I am at the POE, is there anything that I should bring with me to help along the process if they have any questions.
I would think my passport for one... does anyone else have any suggestions?

I just don't want to travel that far and forget something important.

That would be a very good idea OP, you know what a challenge it is to reach your destination. Now throw in the fact that you're totally new to hauling yourself several thousand nautical miles to an unfamiliar place...that can be quite intimidating.

Besides, I think your fiancee would be thrilled to share the last leg of her trip with you.
You might even earn a few extra points in the 'he's so thoughtful and caring category.'

Take a jacket with you when you meet her at JFK, March is still cool for us but cold for a Pinay.

Oh thanks for the processing times link. It helped out great. I will just do a one way to JFK and then when I make her plane ticket, I will make mines.
It will only cost an extra 100 dollars for me to go see her and bring her back with me, but after paying all these immigration fees. 100 dollars just seems like pocket change.

Also, meeting her at the POE will be better since America works a little different than the Philippines. It will throw her off seeing organization. LOL

If I am not mistaking usually when you switch from International to Domestic then you have to carry your own bags. Air lines haven't been the best of support when it comes to making traveling easy.
.so when i am there I can grab her bags and hold it for her while she is being interrogated.
acuratlsdMalePhilippines2012-02-08 02:38:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresManipulate Layover Time for K-1 Entry

Don't book her ticket until after she has her visa in hand.

Also, as a beneficiary, I find telling her not to bring her "everything" is a bit insensitive. I know you mean it in a joking way but still, she's traveling half way around the world to be with you. She should bring her kitchen sink if she darn well chooses. :P

Tell you what... I'll send you the baggage bill for the weight of the kitchen sink.

No no I mean like she brings all her personal stuff but not everything becuase I told her that once she gets here. I will buy her all new clothing.
They don't know what it means when the weather gets below 75 degrees. She might get cold.

It is still in the 50-60s when she gets here in March sometime so she may need new clothes.

I remember coming from Kuwait and Iraq back to Germany and I froze my butt off. Even inside the building I was cold.

Uh... quick question.... Are you waiting for a package, or for your fiancee?

Do you need the answer tonight?

I was thinking about it and I think that you are implying me flying to JFK to meet her there.

I think that is the best thing to do. Especially, POE and first time in United States.

I think i will meet her there and then fly back to North Carolina with her so that there are no issues. You have to take at least two stops to where I live and it will be hard for her.
So, yeah.. your right.. Didn't really think about flying up there.

The ones that I pulled up from Expedia and/or Orbitz are running about 2.0 hours for the layover. Would that be sufficient time?

Coming into JFK 2.55entry entry and leave at 4.55pm
I probably could find one for a little more time but I think that is the grace time of between flights.

The thing that I told her to do is don't bring everything. You know what Filipinos do. They bring everything plus the kitchen sink.
So that if she has to move the bag herself to another airline, she won't have to struggle. She is a small girl.

I have to have my fiancee fly from the Philippines to North Carolina.

Going into Raleigh isn't the easy place to fly into directly so of course she will need a layover in New York which I think will be the POE.
To give her enough time for the waiting time, finger prints, and camera shot at immigration.

Is there a way to manipulate the layover time for your POE while ordering your tickets online?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhether to include western union receipts in evidence of relationship
I put my Western Union in my evidence file because the dates on my Western Union dates me for when I was in the Philippines.

I had my parents wire me some money to the Philippines, even though my name was on the receiving end, it will also show proof I was there in the country.

That would be good evidence, but sending the women money to help support her doesn't mean anything. Just means you are supporting her.

On going evidence would be like birthday cards, photos, skype or yahoo messages, calls.

You can't really do phone calls these days since calling to America to Philippines is 18 cents a minuet give or take. Skype or yahoo is the way to go.

Back in the day they had no choice but to submit the phone records because the technology wasn't there.

I wasn't there for an interview. I was there trying to inquire on a previous K-3 application. I am american by the way. I felt like i wanted to stab a stake through my eyes as they continue to play the Armed forces Network on their TVs or even CNN, you only can take so much. Can't they play some cartoons to lighten the mood?

CanadaLast Details For Interview - Including DHL
So, you only need one years of tax records and not three.. if that is the case. it would sure take a load off the weight i have to send to the philippines. I have my three years and my joint taxes for three years. Those 1040 papers can get pretty thick.
acuratlsdMalePhilippines2012-02-05 23:19:00
PhilippinesWhat part of the journey is this?
I really appreciate all the information you gave me. I guess it is the Embassy's way of saving the trees by having people download the PDF file.

I just went with the flow and told her to pay for her visa application at BPI and then I scheduled her appointment a month a head of time so I can get her the paperwork needed.

I know that majority of the paperwork has to be done by her especially the Visa Applications but I felt that since I know what the US government wants then I just took it upon myself to complete the forms and just send the forms to her with no signature and told her to wait till he consulate instructs you to sign them in front of him/her.

I am putting a very thick binder together because I don't want to have them deny her visa. she is a good person. Helps people everyday. She doesn't need the extra headache from them because she missed one piece of paper or a signature.
acuratlsdMalePhilippines2012-02-02 14:27:00
PhilippinesWhat part of the journey is this?
Good Afternoon everyone from the east coast.

My fiancee received in the mail a letter, one letter only from US Embassy in Manila, stating that you are eligible to schedule an appointment at the U.S. Embassy once you have paid the fee at BPI.

She never got a packet of instructions. Just that one letter. So, when we scheduled the appointment for her. It asked her where she wanted her files sent in Makati. We picked a location and we are not sure about the location. What exactly are they going to send to your house or/and location that you picked for them to send you documents.

Would that be all of your supporting documents, passport and Visa (if approved)?
acuratlsdMalePhilippines2012-02-02 12:31:00
PhilippinesAffidavit of Support
I don't exactly make enough money for the poverty line. I make around 10,000 a year because i am going to school full time and I had to stop work. My mom said she would be a joint sponsor for me. By doing her taxes, she made a little over 60,000 this year.

The issue that I am curious about is that my mom has VA disability which is not accounted on the taxes and so do I. That is why my taxes are so low. I thought the smart thing would be to send the VA award letters with the packet I am sending to my fiancee for the interview.

The forms that i am supplying with for the affidavit of support are as follows:
1. I-134 Affidavit of Support (Self)
2. I-134 Affidavit of Support (Joint)
3. I-864 Affidavit of Support (Self)
4. I-864 Affidavit of Support (Joint)
5. I-864A, Contract between sponsor and household member.

As for support for those documents:
Checking and Savings Account (Self and Joint)
VA Disability Award Letter 40% and 90% (Self and Joint)
IRS 1040, 1099-R (military retirement), W-2 and Property Tax Record (Joint) Yr 2011
IRS 1040, 2009-2011 (Self)
IRS 1040, 2008-2010 (Joint) Joint Taxes are not ready to be done just yet for 2011

Would this be suffice for the Affidavits or does anyone else suggest extra paperwork.
Also, I hear that the US embassy only requires one tax year (recent) instead of the last 3 which is a recent law change...

Also, what would be the difference between the I-134 and I-864 Affidavits? I am sending all on "just case" method.

PhilippinesThings you found strange about the Philippines
Yeah, I did the same thing. I would poke back at them and if it was the same kids from the day before. I would follow them down the street as they do us and I will poke at them and then have my hand out asking for money and just continue to follow him. I was there for 2 months. I had all the time in the world.

Funny thing is that it embarrasses them if you do that.

PhilippinesThings you found strange about the Philippines
Sorry I just have to add more after reading a few:

1. Getting up in the morning and following the smell of Pandesal to the closest bakery down the block. Yum! 5am Fresh Pandelsal.

2. You guys mentioned the toilet paper, but forgot to mention that there are so seats on the toilets themselves.

3. Watching Pinoy Movies, if any american has every watched one, self explanatory. Stuff on a bus for 7 hours in Makati, I went through a few.

4. The drug store has never heard of Chloraseptic Spray.

5. The people mention the stray dogs roaming around but forgot to say that they look like the dogs from Resident Evil. Lack of food and Nutrient.

6. My favorite! Going to the grocery store when there is a corn beef sale. You think traffic is bad in Manila!

7. The fact that I can drop my laundry off at the sari sari store, and grab and beer on my way home.. same store

8. the fact that there are less accidents in traffic than the states and we have tons of laws to abid by.

9. oh haha i totally forgot this one and it happens to me all the time. I use to live in Airport Road in Baclaran, and instead of the drinking girls coming to pull you into the club, it is the owl 90 year old ladies trying to flirt with you, trying to get you to come in.

10. Traveling on Burgos street in Makati, that even though I look 23, they still come up to me and try to sell me Viagra.

11. Oh, everytime that I went to the bathroom i basically had to go in naked or i would just sweat to death. clothes all nasty! No ventilation in he bathrooms. You would think that would be the first place.

12. When I was there, they knew I was american right off hand. I think it was the "i love american" tee shirt i was wearing that gave it away, but we never sat down to talk one another. I tried to talk to one and it seemed like i was inconveniencing him or something.

13. Being able to bring anything in the movie theater from outside source. Ha! Try to do that here in the states they will **** you out cause you didn't buy their over priced stale food.

14. even though I was staying in the house, i didn't sleep on a bed. I slept on this Bamboo looking folding chair that was brought from Bacolod. I forgot the name but pretty comfy.

15. I passed up going to SM Bacoor to see a chicken killed and bleed to death in front of my house door i was renting. Here in america, chicken is already sliced and packaged for us. We don't get to see the behind the scenes so its always nice to see something new
acuratlsdMalePhilippines2012-02-02 20:02:00
PhilippinesThings you found strange about the Philippines
What I found strange... Hmmm I was there last year from May till July.

1. Living in Baclaran, be sure to make friends with the local cockroaches. The Filipinos just sweep them out with the rest of the dirt. LOL It is an everyday morning thing.

2. Going to banks. I felt that the security guard helped me more than the people who worked there.

3. When taking a taxi. If it is too inconvenient for the taxi driver he will dismiss you. For instance, going to SM Megamall around 5pm. They rather not take your money than drive in the traffic. Just make sure you don't inconvenient the taxi drivers. Like, do their job and use the meter. I also found it weird that Going from Baclaran to Quezon City was one price, but going back on the same route was another price. All meters work differently? lol

4. Shopping at the department store. Here in america you get lucky to find someone to help you, but there in Pinas, at the cash register, your bag will go through about 6 different girls for inspection. Each one has a job, staple, fold, run the register.

5. Oh, going to the department store and having them fold your clothes for you before you buy it. Ha! Come to walmart and ask for that amenity.

6. That one guy saying no means no. I learn to say "umalis ka!" to the little boys when their hands out. I found it strange that they don't understand Tagalog from an american tongue .

7. I took a homeless girl into McDonald's and fed her some food and I got stares at by the older filipina. They don't do that here in states. Not so judgmental about that stuff.

8. I know its not as common in the states, but if you clean up your table at a restaurant, you get strange looks like you did something wrong. Especially at mc donalds and jolliebees.

9. The guys at the malls trying to sell you over priced condos. I found out the best thing to do is put your Ipod on and if they come to you, wave them away or just say "Hindi po" but then again, they still might not take no for an answer.

10. I found it strange how they are so formal at Taco Bell at the Gateway Mall. When you order, it just gives you a weird vibe. Reminds me of the Taco bell from Demolition man.

I'm not sure if that's their business, if they ask me ill tell them im good in budgeting my money:) and smile at them:)

Just curious what questions do they ask at POE and also I know that they are very suspcious at immigration in the states. Anything that I need to know just to give my fiancee a heads up coming to the states.

I had a bad experiences with them. I was coming back from the Philippines and the lady asked me how I financed my trip. Is that really their business?

I sent it with the original as extra paperwork. My mistake. Alright, I'll let my fiancee know to order a new one.

I tried to send as much information as I could with the first packet so there were no doubts, but of course you dont see that stuff back until the end of the k-1 visa process.

Speaking of the Cenomar, is it necessary to bring the original to the K-1 Interview? I sent the original in with the first package and have a scanned copy of the original. Philippinestax return

I work for HR Block and do taxes for a living. Usually if a return is filed electronically there is a an electronic signiture usually a pin number. Check out http://www.youtube.c...?v=88u3_VK_rr0.

That pin should be enough to verify the validity of the return.

I am sending three years of my taxes plus the Joint Sponsor taxes. Also, sending copies of VA Award Letters, Military Retirement 1009-Rs plus W-2s. The taxes that I am sending are printed out with H&R Block Software also stating that the taxes were transmitted to the IRS and State. I know it is a lot to send but better to be safe than sorry.

I know how the US Government works. Better to be prepared and never have them say to you that your missing this and that because it seems that they have too much power over a single person.

PhilippinesNBI Clearance
My fiancee insists on getting NBI clearance from every place that she has lived in the Philippines. She is saying that her friend just went to the interview and delayed the visa because she didn't have multiple NBIs.

If I am not mistaken, you only need a NBI per country visited longer than a year since the age of 16. Anyone that has just been through a recent interview, can you please shine some light on this subject?
acuratlsdMalePhilippines2012-02-04 01:52:00
PhilippinesNBI Clearance

As far as I know, the US Embassy need only one valid NBI Clearance. better check the validity of those clearance she have right now. As for me I just got my NBI clearance last month.

She just got them within the last two days. She thought she had to get an NBI per city she lived in since 16. I think i found that you only need to supply multiple NBI if and only if you have lived in additional countries since 16.

My fiancee has lived in Pasay, Paranaque and Bacolod since age 16. She is currently living in Paranaque and I know that the US Embassy requires the NBI. How many NBIs does she need? She has the ones from Pasay and Paranaque, is it really necessary to fly to Bacolod to get the one from there?

PhilippinesExtending Tourist Visa
Trust me,
It is better to apply for the visa while you are still in the states and send your passport to the local Philippine Embassy then to deal with those people at the Philippine Immigration in Manila. I was there and i wanted to punch the lady through the glass.

They talk down to you and then over charge you because they feel that they have the power to stamp your passport or not and you are in their country.

They will bleed your wallet dry if you are not careful. You will be paying this and that fee. Express lane, stamping, everything.

You have to pay a fee to express a fee and pay for that fee. Trust me, you will see it in their website. It is crazy! They will take advantage because they know foreigners want to stay. The only way to get around that is if you know a few people and they can help you get your passport stamp. Philippines is very dirty when it comes to the government so pay the right fee and you can get anything waived.

http://immigration.g...d=118&Itemid=43

Just look at the fees and the time tables. I had to get hit hard with fees just because i stayed 5 more days over the 38 days extension, they will not waive it. If you stay over the 38 days, and even if you stay one day over, you have to pay for the next extension at full price, just be careful.

Oh, and also you have to pay for a I-ARC card if you do not have one and that is another 50 dollars I think. It is only good for one year, cheaper to renew if you have it, if not, you have to keep buying new ones each time you stay over. Per year.

Well I would say it is easier and cheaper in the Philippines.. Dirty government is everywhere.. *cough* USA!

I scheduled mines for March 5th just to give me enough time to do medical, send documents and CFO. Then will assume that she will be ready to come to usa mid march.

It just really depends on how ready you are but yes when i scheduled, there were lots of openings open for Feb and most of them were at -630 in the morning

PhilippinesFiance/e visa application
I had no trouble. I went to the Philippines between May and July of Last year. I met my fiancee there in the Philippines and I filed for the K-1 just fine. The rule is that you meet in the last two years when you file for a K-1. As long as you have proof of your relationship and the fact that you met should not be a problem. You do have to show something that places you in Philippines within the last two years.

Credit Card Statement, Bank Statement if you withdraw money. Hotel invoice, Ring Invoice if proposed.
Photos of different spots. Make sure that when you send the photos that you put when and where those photos were taken, best if you get a camera that will do a date imprint on the photo.

PhilippinesUS EMBASSY MANILA GAVE US THE WRONG REGISTRATION INTERVIEW APPOINTMENT

HELLO EVERYONE AND THANKS AGAIN VJ FOR GIVING US THE HELPFULL INFORMATION. EVERYONE PLEASE FOR THOSE WHO RECEIVED THEIR MNL# I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT PLEASE DO NOT TO CALL US EMBASSY MANILA FOR YOUR INTERVIEW APPOINTMENT OVER THE PHONE BECAUSE THEY JUST SCREWED UP OUR REGISTRATION PROCESS. MY FIANCE(E) IN THE PHILIPPINES HAS CONTACTED US EMBASSY MANILA AND SPOKE TO A LADY AND ASKED FOR ALL HER PASSPORT # AND INFORMATION BUT THEN WHEN SHE RECEIVED AN EMAIL AND CHECKED OUT THE REGISTRATION PROCESS THE LADY SHE SPOKE WITH ENTERED THE WRONG INFORMATION ON HER APPOINTMENT PROFILE. SHE DID NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE WEBSITE AND ACCIDENTALLY SHE DID NOT CLICK THE VISA APPLICATION PERTAINING TO THE PHILIPPINES. SHE CLICKED ON A DIFFERENT COUNTRY? NOW WE ARE STUCK AND WE CANNOT MAKE A CORRECTION BECAUSE SOMEBODY WHO WORKS FROM US EMBASSY MANILA JUST SCREWED UP OUR REGISTRATION INTERVIEW PROCESS. BUT, WE HAVE NOT PAID THE VISA FEE YET AND WE DID NOT SET AN INTERVIEW APPOINTMENT YET? BUT OUR PROBLEM IS THE SITE WHO EVER THAT WOMAN CREATED COULD NOT BE CANCELLED OR EDITED BECAUSE MY FIANCE(E)'S PASSPORT NUMBER HAS ALREADY BEEN REGISTERED ON IT. ANYONE PLEASE GIVE ME A FEEDBACK. VJ MEMBERS WHO ARE GOING THROUGH THIS PROCESS. I PREFER YOU DO IT YOUR OWN WAY TO GET THE REGISTRATION PROCESS DONE.. I NEED YOU GUYS HELP ON THIS... CAN I CORRECT THE VISA REGISTRATION PROCESS??? THE ONLY INFORMATION IT HAS IS THE FEEDBACK REPORT..

You may want to use mostly lower case lettering and Uppercase on the proper names because take it from experience. You will get more complaints of people thinking you are "yelling at them" then answers. Heads up.

PhilippinesFedEx Shipment
I sent the package out today... It came out to be 4.20lbs. of paperwork. The total bill was 142 dollars to send it to Philippines from Eastern North Carolina DHL

Fedex wanted $155 and UPS wanted around $170 to $175. Forgot what the lady quoted me exactly.

There goes the money for the paint job for my hood. Sad :(

PhilippinesFedEx Shipment

If Fedex is the most convenient courier for you, then go for Fedex. If Fedex charges like DHL, remove the whole document from the binder and just send it as it is and have her buy the supplies in the PHilippines (hella cheap!!!) I had to remove the fabric ribbon from a wedding invite because they were charging it something other than a document (higher, of course!)

A fabric ribbon, you got to be kidding.

That is like sneezing and being accused of starting the plague
