PhilippinesNearest hotel, pension house or tourist inn to SLEC???? Please help!
i have to agree with jhamel..

if u want a hotel that is ACTUALLY near the embassy, you should try out SORIENTO. only 15-20 steps away from the embassy. it's a very simple hotel but very convenient. the outside part looks old but the rooms are decent enough, because they just renovated them. i was there last may. my parents and i got a room with two beds (with a lot of space too!) and we only paid 1800/night.

but i tell you soriento is the most accessible hotel near st lukes. u may just have to eat at robinsons though because soriento only provides rooms.. but if u intend to fall in line at slec at 4am, then this is your best bet.

btw, here's is soriento's number: (02)5239480

You'll be fine. It was my first time to enter US with no company at that, but it was easy all in all. Just ask the personnel at LAX where are the lines for visitors...then wait a long line. The immigration officer will take a look at your visa packet and ask questions/info he'll get from that packet. THat's it! Goodluck!

that indeed sounds easy.. thanks chris-lei! btw, congratulations on your recent wedding! wink.gif

*are the immigration staff friendly?
*is LAX a good POE (based on personal experience if any..)
*i have 3 hours and 30 minutes until my flight to Atlanta from LAX, IS THAT ENOUGH TIME for immigration process/clearing?
*do i get my bag BEFORE i head for immigration (POE interview or something) or AFTER?
*do i need to check in my luggage AGAIN for my flight to Atlanta? my plane to LAX is PAL and my flight to ATL is delta.
*do i also need to check in my luggage again for my ATL-durham flight? i'll be flying delta to durham-raleigh airport.
*do i need to pay for excess baggage from LAX to ATL and durham since this is already a domestic flight? (considering the domestic flight baggage allowance..)

if you're one of the extra excited ones whistling.gif , you can already schedule yourself for an interview. or you can let your fiance do the scheduling for you through a 1-900 number in the US. he can purchase a PIN that is about $18 and good for 3 calls, whatever the length of the calls. then after confirming an interview appointment, they will email a copy of that appointment. you can show that copy at the entrance of st. lukes and tell them you want to have an early medical.

CLICK THIS LINK, IT WILL HELP YOU A LOT.

good luck! God bless =)

My wife is Somali but currently lives in Kenya. She does not have a passport nor is there any form of government is Somalia at the moment, except civil war after civil war for the past two plus decades. Now a person told me that this person's attorney said my wife will NEED a passport to pass through the customs once she enters US soil. Is this true first of all? And secondly, if that is the case, then do you go about this situation? Where am I suppose to get a passport from for her? Will Kenya give her a passport on behalf of Somalia? Is that even possible? Should I contact the NVC and inform them of this situation and heed to ther advice and suggestion? Or will they make an exception in this case since there is no government appearant in Somalia as far as I know? Please help me find the answers to these inquiries and troubling thoughts. Hey,

I think you will need a passport. Ask her to find out if there is a Somali embassy in Kenya. The embassy should be able to help her process a passport. Try finding out if there is an embassy in Uganda and Tanzania as well. The Somali embassy in any of these countries should be able to help. Since there is some sort of government in SOmalia right now, I think they have representatives in the rest of East Africa, especialy Kenya. Also you might want to call the US Embassy in Kenya and ask them how they deal with Somali cases. I know that they process other cases from Somalia, so there must be a way that those people get passports or "waivers" if at all apllicable. Take care and all the best.

I found this link but do not know how accurate this information is or if these embassies are still open. You might want to call them and ask if there is any Somali consulate in East AFrica...... You might want to call NVC and see what they say but also call the US Embassy in Kenya.

I have kind of read up on Somalia passports on the internet, but there are alot of forgeries especially in Kenya. But the government (It is not a fully functional gov't because it controls a very small part of the country and the rest of it by warlords) Anyway the government launched new e-passports and am sure there is some sort of office in Nairobi, Kenya because almost all the negotiations and alot of somali "government business is conducted in Kenya. Also there are many refugees in Kenya so there must be an office that helps them besides the UN. Otherwise see if you can get travel documents from the UN.

The Somalia government has launched the first phase of the new E-passport.
The passport is a technological advancement for security matters.

Somalia Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Hasan Ahmad Jama says that the

It does not delay the process at this stage. (It will at the AOS stage.) You will not receive further correspondence at this point, but your fiancé will. Time delays are not uncommon. If you would enter your timeline information I would be able to better answer your questions.

Do everything you can to have them resend the NOA2. It is required for the Adjustment of Status (AOS) process once you are married. Keep a record of each phonecall, and every piece of correspondence. Print out a hardcopy of the online status and keep that too. Should you be unsuccessful in your attempts at obtaining a copy of the NOA2, you will need to explain why you don't have it in your AOS cover letter. You will need to send them evidence of your attempts to obtain one so that you do not have to purchase a replacement. I believe the replacement cost is close to $400 right now.

Crikey! I had no idea about that replacement cost.

Did not recieving the NOA2 the first time then delay the prcoess? How come since October we have not heard from the embassy? Also thanks guys so much for the information it was very helpful. I will definentaly call NVC and ask for the NOA2 to be sent again.

Did you receive an NOA1 and receipt number earlier than November? It's difficult to help without knowing what stage you are at in the process. Could you provide more details and perhaps fill out your timeline. The timeline helps other VJ users waiting.

Yes, we recieved a receipt number in September, about ten days after we sent in the petitioner packet. I then saw on the USCIS check status website that we had been approved in late october. I beleive that it when USCIS attempted to send us information I guess the notice of approval, and that is what my school post office sent back to USCIS. I have asked them to resend it since I am back in the country but since November 16 when it was sent back I haven't hear anything...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMissed Approval Letter
Hi All,
I have a quick question. I was out of the country for sometime (visiting my fiancee) and missed the Approval notice that was supposed to be sent, I was wondering what is in the second package also if its a package that needs to be signed for. I'm a student so it was sent to my school and I figured that I would not need anybody to pick it up for me since the school would probably keep letter. However, I believe it must have been a letter that needs to be signed for and as a result my school sent it back to USCIS. So now I called USCIS to resend it but its been since November . I am so worried right now because I don't know how far it will push the process back. I was also wondering if I should expect my fiancee to receive his letter from the embassy ( I am the US Citizen) or if his letter will not be sent until I recieve the iapproval letter from USCIS. Thanks a bunch.
