Just a piece of advice--have her get ALL of her US required vaccinations done at the medical in Kiev. Be sure to get a copy of the DS-3025 as this will be needed to send with her AOS. Finding a CS here to just do vaccinations and complete the forms at a reasonable price is tough. Congratulations!!!!!!

This is not to alarm you but only to give you our medical exam story: Lena had her medical exam performed about 1 month prior to the interview and as it turned-out, glad she did go early. The physician observed something on her chest film and because of that, required her to come back to Keiv for 3 consecutive mornings the following week for sputum tests. Again, a 7 hour train ride from Kharkov, hotel expenses and lots of worry. The sputum tests were negative and she was informed that she had passed the medical exam. This said, it seems like >95% of those that have their medical exam a couple of days before their interview are successful. This is just our story. Good luck!

Wait a few days so that the US Embassy in Kiev receives the approved petition from the NVC then call for her appointment. We did and the hardcopy followed soon after. Congratulations!

Happy times... i am also in ukraine now, just approved for K-1 monday and we travel back together next week (pending the 2-3 day fedex delivery or even 9 day for that matter)... Will have to keep a lookout for "G" on the airplane. Not that i know what he looks like, but would be sure to recognize them as a couple / family.

Congratulations!

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusD + 4 years

Gary,

Your words are an inspiration for all of us. I know that on November 17th it will be seven years since Lena arrived and changed my life forever. We are very happy and still very much in love. Your story also points out that we married these RUB women for their character, love and understanding; not for their beauty. The beauty was just a bonus. My wife takes very good care of me, even if I make things difficult for her.

Congratulations to you and Alla for the past four years and best wishes for many more to come.

Stay Happy My Friend

Our best wishes to you and Alla.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusCredit card debt an issue to leaving Russia?
If it becomes clear that Zhenya must clear the cc debt before leaving, she may be able to go to the issuing bank with an agreeable relative and assign the debt to the relative. Then, you can send the payments to the relative until resolved. Suggestion came from my wife who is from Ukraine.

All is well! I just brought Lena home from the hospital. It figures that she gave the little stuffed "mishka" to her favorite nurse. Made me write a letter of gratitude for the clinical staff as well. Other than her weakness, she can resume her normal routine. Once outside, she exclaimed, "I can breathe fresh again."

Thank you all for your kind words. I recited every one of your posts to her.

Slightly better today on day 4 of hospitalization. Made me buy an aguret (cucumber) and black bread from the Russian market. She ate a few pieces of the cucumber. Vital signs stable.

Update on Lena:

Stable this morning, meds are controlling her heart rate and BP. I am appreciative that the hospital assigned a Russian primary doc for her. He is kind, talks to Lena in Russian then to me in angliyskiy. He is not that concerned that she wants to sleep and stay in bed. She is pretty wiped-out. He says she is better and "one day at a time."

Sounds like Alla, we have a Cyrillic Apteka in our closet full of lotions and potions.

I hope she is doing better soon, please keep us informed and stay with her, she needs you now

I'm on it! Haven't left her side. She only has me here. Her son in Kharkov made an interesting comment. He said that he would send money to me to help to pay for all of the "analysis". He was surprised when I told him that this hospitalization is covered @ 100% minus a $500 deductable. Not like Ukraine he said! The hospitals there provide good care but basic care for free. Cat scans, MRIs and high-tech cardiac care costs are additional and prohibitive for families there. I am thankful for our cuurrent healthcare system. Thanks Gary!

Thank you! Its now narrowed down to a pre-hyperthyroid storm. The good docs are now controlling her blood pressure, nausea and high pulse rate. Thank God this is fixable.

Not such a good Christmas this year. Lena's in the hospital. Persistent headache, loss of balance, tachycardia. Many tests including a cat scan and lumbar puncture. The good news so far is meds have decreased her tachycardia. Also, the hospital assigned her a Russian primary doctor. I'll keep all updated. Of course she fought the physicians when they proposed certain pain meds. She never takes medicine other than homeopathic mixtures from the FSU.

please be aware of the more modern usage of that word:

"Oriental" is believed by some to be antiquated, pejorative, and disparaging due to its Eurocentric usage in the United States.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orient

Urban Dictionary: oriental
1. oriental Politically incorrect term used in place of "Asian." Correct usage should be an adjective for things like inanimate objects, not humans.

Better than ESL. Really, there was no intent.

Only our experience, Lena told me that tamoshna in Detroit thoroughly went through her two big suitcases. She was pissed that the officer went through all of her underwear. That's all. Total time at Customs in Detroit was 30 minutes. Go through Detroit, you are close to home. Good luck and keep in touch. Igor
