WOW! We have the visa in hand!! John paid for the "before 10AM" delivery, and at 6:30AM, the courier was standing outside with our package. Such amazing luck! I think we might have set a record for fastest visa delivery!

Well it finally had to happen from the 24th of April till today, I finally got the sms from the couriers telling me that the visa will be in my hand tomorrow between 8 and 6pm , its about blooming time. needless to say i cant concentrate i'm sooo happy, I woke up excited today for some reason, and here's why.

Hit us with that big sparkly star please Marm....

We
are
APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was (as many have said) a strange experience. I felt like I was sat in a school canteen / argos / post office.

I was number 5003 - seen firstly at 9am and then again at 10:30 - out by 10:40! I recommend getting there early. People who arrived only 20 mins after me were in for one heck of a wait!

I got a bit of a hard ####, who was very matter of fact in her questions, and obviously trying to catch me out. Had a heart jolting moment where she couldn't find proof of david's divorce.....but then she found it!!!

Pink slip issued, courier paid for a before 12 delivery....

SHAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZAM! DONE! I only walked in the door 15 mins ago, so I am overwhelmed and in need of a shower! I have a glass of wine, but because they took my passport, and I have no other ID, I had to have my little sister go and buy me a bottle smile.gif

Thanks everyone....so looking forward to that visa arriving!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

YAAAY!!! Congrats Ellie & David....really pleased for you.

Over to you aoifee!!! It really is a bit of a let down after the big build up.....but the feeling of elation keeps catching up with me and woooooooooosh!

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. seee. I knew you'd be ok. congrats. Did anything I told you about the 73 bus actually help. Oh i'm happy for you love....xxx

So can anyone tell me this about FilmOn. Do they ever 'cut out' certain programming that they can't obtain rebroadcast rights to? I'm getting the message that the free time is over but as rebeccajo said, $10/month for BBC, ITV and C4 (etc) is an absolute bargain. BUT... It's a non-starter if it doesn't show the footie and the F1. Has anyone successfully watched sport on this service?

We pay DishNetwork for a higher value package specifically so I can have SpeedTV for the F1 and a few other channels for the tennis, some [real] football, etc... I missed watching proper sports terribly when I first moved here.

the subscription applies only to bbc 2, not to the other channels. bbc 1, itv1, itv2, ch4 ch 5, always free. and more 4, film four. and u can always work around the bbc 2 thingy. try it.

no it applies to itv 2 too, subscrition, but the subscription is a tenner so i dont think thats bad.

Not quite. If you put a travel or wedding date a little ways off in the future they'll hold onto it and won't assign you a date for some time. They would have entered the information into the system in that case though.

Not suggesting that's what happened in your situation- just an example.

I think this is the case with my fiance's requested DS-157. It arrived by post yesterday at the embassy (recorded signature as proof of delivery) and my fiance was also called by the embassy yesterday and requested to fax over his DS-157 right away because they hadn't received it until that time yesterday. They were just waiting on that form to finish up whatever they have to do according to the CO my fiance talked to. But I called DOS earlier this morning and was told that his new DS-157 is still not showing in the system yet (despite having faxed over the DS-157 yesterday as well as them receiving the postal copy yesterday). So I am hoping that it is just the case that it is not showing up in the system but that they are working on it! But it would give us great peace of mind if we just knew that it had been put in the system as we are running out of time for my fiance's stay in the UK!
But who said this process had ANYTHING to do with peace of mind? whistling.gif

Marm, i'm keeping up with your case, ok, fill me in when you get a chance. I think you are gonna get it soon. Get ready. Still praying for ya

There's probably some ridiculous USCIS reason why they can't do it but you never know.

This isn't a USCIS thing right now so an infopass won't help. Visas are granted through the Dept of State, a totally different piece of the US government. Maybe you could write Hillary Clinton...she's the head honcho as US Secretary of State.

Sorry you're still waiting Marm. sad.gif

And I did exactly that...maybe I am crazy but I would rather do it than regret that I did not, I wrote to:
Hilary Clinton, the Assistant Secretary, and the Deputy Secretary as well (all Washington, DC)
Helen Rice, and J. Steaberg: Consul Generals at the US Embassy in London (London, UK)
And just as a last thought: VP Biden and First Lady as well.

We are the point of desperation now...my fiance no longer can continue his job as his contract has expired and he needs to show a valid UK resident/student visa that is valid from 6 months beyond today's date in order to renew his contract or look for another place to work while he waits it out until November in the UK or gets the K-1 visa, whichever comes first. We are stuck in quite a difficult situation as basically now my fiance is literally just waiting to hear about his visa and no one, neither DOS, nor the US Embassy in London understand that he MUST leave within a month so he needs his passport back and he needs to know what will happen to the K-1. It's all horribly hopeless to contact any of these people in the ways we have: emails to London, calling DOS, asking the senators and congressman to help...nothing is working so I hope that me writing these letters has some effect (although I doubt it very much). We are just praying hard and calling DOS everyday...

sorry marm......no words. flabbergasted.
i'm hoping its soon. its happened b4....

Belated happy b-day Prima! Glad to see things are settling in. We are not in any type of Admin Processing as we are consistently being informed by DOS...I don't really know the reason for our delay in receiving the visa in hand. DOS keeps telling us we should get it soon, it is not in AP/AR. I just hope this week is our week! We are close to hitting the 11 month mark (even though I know many have waited more than 11 months, MonkeyJuice for example rose.gif ) but it is frustrating because we are not in AP/AR so there is no reason we see feasible for the hold-up. We have contacted the embassy by email and should be getting a reply in a day or two as to what is going on...I just hope we get the visa in hand before their reply whistling.gif

Slightly off topic, but a leap of sorts. Knight and Magpie were married in Texas on the 4th of July. I had the privilege of being there and being her "mum" to help her get ready. She is so beautiful. It was a quickly planned civil ceremony at Marriage Island, but it was absolutely lovely. heart.gif

Here's the location:

Marriage Island is the most romantic spot on the River Walk. The small Island was the location of San Antonio's first Catholic mass in 1691. It is now a popular spot for lovers to become engaged or exchange their marriage vows. It is said if you become engaged or get married on the Island, you will have a long and happy marriage. It's not unusual to happen across a small wedding or proposal in progress as you stroll along the River Walk on any day of the year.

Gorgeous location! And I am sure Magpie looked as sweet as she is yes.gif

Congrats to KnightAndMagpie! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

Gemmie--that sucks...the part about sitting in the school office waiting to go to grandma's house. You are doing them a favor to take the time to visit her. Such a sweet thing to do. But to have to add those extra hours and transportation arrangements is getting over the top. I wouldn't do it because it's imposing on your good nature and personal time. And it's setting a precedence that will get harder to get out of. If they don't want grandma to drive then, perhaps grandma visits will have to wait until you can get a driver's license and car. Don't get in a trap that will be harder to get out of later. Just say how you feel and don't feel ungrateful. A short pop-in visit is one thing, but a scheduled marathon day being expected of you is another. I know you're trying to please the new family, but you ultimately need to please yourself and the best time is from the start.

It's hard being young, unemployed, and in a new environment. I applaud you for hanging in there knowing things will get better. You're very mature and sensible. star_smile.gif

And on an accent note...In south Texas we have a lot of Mexicans who speak with a heavy accent or have limited English skills. I'm used to the accent. So the funny part is Nick with his British accent trying to talk to Rodriguez our lawn guy. Neither one of them has a clue what the other is saying, so they need me as the interpreter. Nick also refuses to go through a drive-thru like at Jack-in-the-Box because they never understand him and it just winds him up too much.

Thank you, Nich. You are so, so right. I think I need to set this straight now.

Heather, I do think her driving has gone downhill. She takes longer to react to lights changing to green, and she drives slowly, parks strangely. She's one of those oldies that you get frustrated at when you're in a hurry. good.gif

Missus, I know what you mean about basically not acting like a child and saying things how they are. When it's my close friends, I'm able to do that. The reason I've been hesitant is because there's an 82 year old's feelings on the line here. I have some guilty feelings about not giving my own grandparents more time when they were alive, so it makes me realise how precious those relationships are. I don't want to come out with a line about "not wanting to spend 8 hours with her" or being "stuck up there all day" because it's not the nicest thing to hear, even for the in-laws. I'm trying to be polite about it, and still compromise.

Bill got home from work for just 30 minutes today and when he did, we talked more about the situation, and we're going to simply say that it's just going to have to wait until I have my own vehicle/license because the restrictions are getting too much. I can still talk to her on the phone every week until then.

Thanks for all the helpful responses, I love coming to VJ.

About the accent thing, it's also funny when there's another Brit around who wants to find out if YOU'RE a fellow Brit before they ask, so try and ask pointless questions so they can hear your accent. laughing.gif

hey wasnt saying you were acting like a child.. at all. i suppose we all tread carefully with the new relationships. Look my grandmother and grandfather both died and i hadnt seen them for years, my gran about 3 years, and my grandfather 15. I felt guilty, but thats my grandparents, you cant make it up. just learn i suppose.

Allie i'm so glad you feel better..... the stress will manifest again though. shoot i remember when i was in london, under that K1 stress, i went into a butchers and the butcher i got was very inexperienced, i kept asking him, about steak he didnt know what rump steak was, i was so sharp with him,
" you mean your'e a butcher and you don't know what a rump steak is. no thats frying steak" . One of the other butchers came over and kind of patted him on his back and did my order. i looked over at him and he was sooo forlorn... i didnt even apologise. I mean.... THATS NOT EVEN HOW I ACT. i was such a bizatch when i was going through the K1 thing. like i said, the ranting is good, shoot employ something you can punch, go on a tready, it has to come out, lol mine just came out to the sad little butcher. lmao you live and learn right
whats your progress on your visa??

Great post Missus. It sums up perfectly how I felt during and after the K1 process... and still do, somewhat.

(The other day, I was stressing out because a guy at the car-dealership asked me a question about where we got our inspection sticker. I was trying to say "A&A automotive" but because of the accent difference, I had to repeat it like three times and he still didn't understand me. laughing.gif )

Actually, here's a bit of a rant and problem: Every Thursday I spend the day with my husband's grandmother as she lives alone and likes spending time with me. She usually picks me up at our house. Lately, my in-laws have been saying that it's dangerous for her to be driving to our house every week because she's over 80 years old and they don't feel comfortable having her come such a long way. So they suggested that my MIL brings me to school with her (where she works) and I can sit in the office for a few hours until the grandmother is able to come there and pick me up (as it's closer).

I've discussed this with my husband, and I don't know what to do. I really want to spend time with her, but I feel like a child; having to be taken to school with my MIL and left in the office for 3 hours until my grandmother can pick me up and take me to hers... and then have my MIL pick me up again at the end of the day. That also means I have to spend 8-10 hours at my grandmother's house, which although I love spending time with her, I'm sure everyone can understand that a period of time like that is a bit much.

The way that everyone has already discussed this and agreed on it without talking about it with me (other than telling me what they decided) is also frustrating and adds to the feeling like a child. I'm about to take my written driving test, but even after that, we can't afford another car right now, so I'm still pretty stuck.

Things like this really make me miss the independence I had back home. It's a big drop from the days in England where I would hop on a train and go to visit my grandfather, have lunch with him and then go off and visit some friends, etc.

So although things are difficult when you're in the process of waiting for the visa and such, there are always difficult things to go through once you get to the US. I see posts from people who have come over, gotten jobs, gotten cars, and settled in pretty quickly and sometimes I feel like I'm stuck behind and have to remind myself that all of these things will come in time. Just like with the visa.

hey well i'm over here reading all your responses, and trust me i know. I was there with Marm when she got approved then had to wait, a bunch of us had to give in additional docs, its not easy. Allie N nigel, even as you read this and you dont have what you want its frustrating, I KNOWWWW! i'm sending some good vibes to you, to get you over this hump. But like i said its not the ONLY hard part.

Gemmie, that truly sucks the big un. I have to respond to what you said about not being a child, and stuff. Just dont be one. Period. talk straight, truthfully, and with concern, but like nich nick said do it now, to set the course of how you want this relationship to run. Make your own precedent. The great thing about starting new, is, everything is new, you dont have all the knowledge baggage that comes with your relationships back in the uk, Set your own course, bang your own drum, yada yada.

lol one of the great things about just becoming 40, you really dont give a **** about what other people think... Its AWESOME!!!!

ok not hijacking your thread,,,,,,, rant and rant, let it all out, i know this helps.

So in other words, get your ducks in a row before you go to your interview and you wouldn't have this problem???

I wasn't referring to anyone in particular but making a general observation and looking at the matter from a different perspective. Seems you have a problem discussing things without seeing it as criticism.

been there. no one is gonna feel like you do, but we have all pretty much felt like you do. Bar those that have had the easy process of just getting approved and stuff, if you have to wait for them to hurry up and give you your papers every minute drags, every hour just adds to the worry. Personally, when i was going through my wait, i had flashbacks: lol i'd be sitting in my classroom and all of a sudden i'd see a street in michigan, or chicago, something we did together, i'd be transported. it added to the feeling that i was in limbo, in between both places. when you want something that much its hard to see anything else.

my visa came, and it was great. once i had it it all felt surreal and then the whole process continued to feel weird. leaving folk in london, driving away from my flat, getting on the plane, going through POE, and after a few weeks, realising I wasnt on holiday anymore. it still feels strange to be here. so if you think things are weird now, wait till you do all the things you have to do to settle in

in the usa, being married, losing some of your status( because its all new here), you can feel like you are losing a part of yourself: finding new friends, having no credit, picking at the little things like "why do they say rout, when its route etc" this is not my attempt at patronising anyone, but rather to let you know that your focus may be on the visa now, but you should pave your new path and life with as much forward planning as possible. The weirdness will continue, though the ache of missing the "one" will be gone, you'l have a whole host of things to adjust to.

I know that maybe in reading this you will only see the things you want: VISA, POE, MARRIED, lol, try to push past all your worry about the process and enjoy your time left with loved ones, and the great transportation we have in the uk (because it sucks the big one here).

xxx

p

oh and about some of the things ppl saying may sound like they are having a go, or whatever, i remember i was a complete you know what in the process, in some of these forums, sure some folk thought i was friggin mad, just get into it with folks; its just stress., it was stress, every part of you feels stressed, but that you can control. all the best

United KingdomResidence status in the UK now I'm resident in the US
congrats. well about the money you can always give it to me. i'll find a way of disposing of it. your best bet is to use something like caxton fx where you can transfer large amounts to any bank account. as for your residence status you have to inform the tax office of your move by filling out a form, and i will post the link here. this form will also give you a tax refund for the year 2009, effectively it informs them about your move, and permanence in the us. you will be given the option to keep your pension, which they will send you.

ok - question you guys.. for those of you who had your interview, you are waiting on your visa - because something was missing? John did his interview today.. is this to say we could be 3-4 more weeks for the visa to arrive? They said his visa was approved, but he needs to send them his original birth certificate. will he get that original back? This is scary!

Thanks for input!

you get them all back. no worries.

lol you are late.

just take a deep breath and let it go. you will get your visa in hand soon enough. dependent upon whether theres a backlog at the embassy. maybe someone could clarify as to what the current waiting times are at the embassy. Also you can check that here I believe on this site to see how long/quick visa's are being issued.

Hope it comes soon, be prepared to get even more flustered when it does.

Thanks tomaran star_smile.gif I understand about not knowing what to say, I was utterly disgusted at DOS and then totally speechless yesterday when the other rep told me that there is nothing she can do, whoever told me that his visa was issued is wrong, it is in administrative processing still. I even asked them, how they could play such a cruel joke on two people and their families, and she said I don't know what to say, but it is still in administrative processing. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers, we need all we can get yes.gif

I know , thats truly horrid. That DOS rep needs a good kicking!. Lol Tomaran is over here cussing up a storm for you Marm, mad as hell. I hope this is resolved soon, without the worst case scenario. Hoping for the best... as always.

I called DOS again to ask whether the visa had been printed because it is not showing up on the courier tracking web page, and a different DOS rep (different from the one that told me earlier today that my fiance's visa has been issued) tells me that his case is still processing/pending. Then I told her about the conversation I had with the first rep (unfortunately I didn't get her name) and she told me then that was the wrong information, it has not been issued. And I was shocked, still am...this couldn't be a cruel joke on us, could it? And I know it is not a misunderstanding because she confirmed my name, my fiance's name, she even asked me, "he was interviewed on May 12, right?" and i said yes, and then she told me the visa has been issued and congratulated me IN GREAT DETAIL. So there is no way it could have been a mistake, I just don't understand what is going on...the second DOS rep took my phone # and said she would get back to me on why I was told that is is issued when it is NOT, and it is still pending. I can't believe this.

thanks primahen, we are still suffering in AP/AR or whatever else they like to call this. This system needs to be revamped and should be on the priority list, I mean we don't even know if our file is just sitting there or whether it is actually being worked on, and they don't care that we are hanging like this, so its a total black hole that seems endless right now.

The petition approval doesn't matter except if you don't apply for a visa within 4 months of that date. What's important now is the expiration date of the VISA. It's printed under the birth date and should be 6 months from when the visa was issued. It must be used to enter the US before that date. Are you planning on delaying his entry past February?

Thanks for clarifing it Nich-Nick. No way are we waiting until FEB. We bought plane ticket last night. He's flying in to Detroit on the 28th of this month. smile.gif

Thanks for checking in on us. star_smile.gif

Well, we have recently put in a request for a third Senatorial inquiry (basically we used the other senator and our congressman so this is the third ship to burn). And last we heard, the first senatorial inquiry told us that DOS/London has stated that my fiance's case is in final review. So whatever that means, we don't know...because DOS is no help at all when we call and ask for updates.
The last time I called DOS, it was extremely frustrating:
The DOS rep called me stupid for thinking that she could tell us the last date my fiance's case was updated (even though I KNOW they give out that info and they DO). And when I told her that my congressman and senators told me that his case is in final review, and whether there is an update, she snickered and said, "well, the congressional and senatorial staff workers are not allowed to get that information, that is wrong." And that was the final straw with me and DOS (at least for now). How could she laugh and tell me that? It is sick to think that its funny for her that people's lives are on the line and she can just laugh and not give me a straight answer. I don't know how people on AP that are active on VJ get dates for security checks being ordered, or last updated dates on their cases just by calling DOS, it has not been possible for us so far to even get an inkling of info from DOS. If it weren't for our senators and congressman, we would be beyond insane with frustration right now.

So 3 days from now, it will be 3 months since my fiance's interview...and we are praying that Allah grants my fiance his visa in his hand before we hit the 3 month mark or around that time, because we have had it with this entire process, it is utterly beyond frustrating.

Just wish us the best as you all always do smile.gif and I will of course post our updates here as soon as they come in.

getting mad helps because it makes the time pass quicker. this is frustrating but i hope as they say this is final review phase. at least (one hopes) you wont have to replicate this frustration in AOS. yes i hope it goes well with you both, let god move quickly to give you a definate answer.

Hi. New on this thread. My fiance had his interview today and was approved pending the long form birth certificate. He had the birth certificate at home and was ready to send it this afternoon. He called SMS and they said they would pick it up on Monday pending payment over the phone. They said someone would call to get the payment in the next hour, but no one did. He called back and they said that they didn't have him in the system yet and that they couldn't do anything until he was there. They said someone would call back but it might be some time tomorrow morning. Very frustrating since I don't really understand the delay in payment. Hopefully it'll all get sorted out in the morning. Anyway, just wanted to add my story to the thread. So glad this was here to explain the process a little better!

harasss them some more, tell them to pull thier finger out. sometimes its who you talk to there. on the day i recieved the text telling me I had my visa (3.30 pm june 25th 2009 happy day!!!) I was on the phone to one rep who swore she couldnt see me or my passport even with the id no. i had to put the phone down ring again then I found out they had me down as a MRS. which ofcourse i wasnt yet as i was coming to get married, right. that confusion over took about 40 mins to sort. i like to be proactive ( My word for pushy!). though i'm not quite sure why they didnt take the payment immediately like it did when most of us paid them. ??? nonetheless it wont be long b4 you are together.

We have contacted Senators/Congressman but no response yet. Also, we still have not gotten any replies from the US Embassy in London. But a DOS rep has given us this new information:

A DOS representative told me while checking the status of my fiance's case that "The US Embassy in London has not transferred his file to the next database for printing. It is still in the first one." When I asked what that means, she told me that when they transfer to the second database, then it is in queue for printing. His case is still at the US Embassy in London, but it is yet to be internally transferred."

What does this mean?

I think the officer approves and sends on to the visa printer station who does the visa and gives to courier. So it probably means you haven't been approved. Either they are waiting on name checks (AP) or it's sitting there because they are waiting on the passport, which could be sitting somewhere else and they failed to match up. It is maddening and I know you've wished you could just go in and find your stuff, put it together and hand it to them. I hope the congress people will make a timely request to them and spur them on to at least give you a logical answer.

ok where is tomaran, looks like we have to make summore of those sacrifices for Marm. !!!!!!!!! I am aghast at this bull*** that you have to go through. Are you kicking up a stink or what?? seriously, are they even allowed to tell you one thing at the interview then do something else when they recieve the documents they requested.? What has the senator actually done about this?

We are a bit confused.

My fiance was approved pending a translated doc. (the doc was translated correctly).

My fiance said it would take 5 days once he sent in the translation.

He got the item retranslated and then sent it next day delivery to the embassy. He tried to contact the curior service 1st but they said that they didn't have anything in their system telling them that the embassy needs to pick anything up from him. He then thinks that the embassy will contact the curior service to pick up his passport after they receive the items.

I was under the impression that the curior service would pick up both doc and passport.

Can anyone tell me how the system works for getting the item back to the embassy. Seems like a guessing game to me.

Are you saying your fiance sent it by himself next day delivery to the embassy?

What is supposed to happen is this:

-You are approved pending a document at the interview, so the interviewer/CO gives you a slip saying so (a 221 (g) form with annotation of the document they want before they can issue the visa) along with directions on how to contact SMS, the delivery courier service for the embassy.

So once you receive the document that was pending, you call SMS courier service (the slip the CO gave you at the time of interview has SMS's contact info on it)
-Call the SMS courier service and ask them to arrange a pick-up for the embassy from you. Set up a time, pay the fee via phone.
-SMS courier guy comes to your door, asks for the document, you put in the document along with your passport in the envelope the SMS courier guy provides for you. He gives you a slip with the tracking # on it (\be sure to ask for tracking # if he doesn't give it to you).
-SMS delivery guy takes your envelope that has the passport and document in it to the embassy.

You can confirm that the embassy received your document+passport in the following ways:
-Contact SMS courier service and they will tell you
OR
-Contact DOS and they will check the system and inform you
OR
-Call the Embassy's extortion line and ask about the receipt of your documents by the embassy.

also the courier service tends only to have information when they are going to send it back to you, u maybe confused as to that. tring to track you parcel may only be possible by ringing them until they recieve it back fom the embassy

Good question Marm... I think she's confused. Her petition approval was in Sept, but her visa should have been valid until sometime near Christmas. At the UK airport, you do have to show your visa and sometimes the brown envelope because the airlines want to verify you have everything for proper entry. I suppose they don't want to be stuck having to fly you back to the UK if you don't have all your credentials. Maybe they were just verifying she had her K1.

good morning everyone.............

no what i meant was the approval for the k1 came through last September, you know there is a time limit after which the approval is valid, thats why you write letters to the embassy to say you would like the K1 approval extended. I just basically told them that i had to get medical evidence. The THREE immigration officers (officer Jenkins and co) looked it over he gave the nod then the I O went into the computer and revalidated the approval. It was a bit nerve wracking, but I dont think it s a huge problem.

well i'm gonna go have breakfast with hubby to be ......xxx

Prima

Oh and the other question Prima is did you get a one way or return flight?
If you got a return flight did they question your intentions at heathrow?
I only ask because its is against airline t&c's to allow one way travel on a r/t ticket.
Cheers Hun

and once again...OMG....Congratsssssssss!!!!!!

no probs with the return ticket, which I got. I dont know why the hell they wanted to revalidate anything. it doesnt make sense to me, just an excuse to chat boll>>>>>>> oops sorry garbage. Thanks for the congrats, i'm here adjusting to him again. And its strange to be here and know i'm not going to England again. so a bit of adjusting to do. i might have to look up this revalidate thing to clarify. I always have trouble at Detroit. Trust me I was bricking it at the desk.
