Just something I took note of with the most recent approved pending additional docs cases from London: (tomaran and JimandChristy) . From the point when the embassy acknowledges that they have received the documents/passport, the visa is printed 3 days afterward, delivered on the 4th day from embassy acknowledgment. This of course may not hold true for all recent approved pending additional docs from London, but at least it makes some sense and gives me comfort that my fiance can hopefully get his visa in hand by this Friday. And I called DOS again today (of course) to find out whether they had printed my fiance's visa yet or not, and I guess they had someone new to answer the phone because she gave me the date that the embassy acknowledged my fiance's passport in their system (and many times before when I asked about dates when calling DOS, they always told me they can't tell me exact dates...) which is June 15(Mon), so we have high hopes that my fiance gets his visa in hand by this Friday.

Prima and jay: did you receive the bc from the co-sponsor yet?

no

yeah prima and jay, I totally agree with you, until my fiance gets the visa IN HIS HAND, I am not going to let myself get excited (although I can't help feeling relieved that we are ALMOST there...).

you deserve it, especially after all the chanting that was done for you!

OK no text today but I just rang up the DOS to see if my case had been completely "approved". Well the person on the other end was being really ambiguous about it, saying "Well the Visa has not been printed yet". So I asked "Well does that mean it has been approved", the reply I got then was "I can't say any more than that except the Visa has not been printed".

Why are they being so secretive about it? blink.gif

Anyone had a similar experience to this?

Well, DOS has told me previously that they cannot tell me dates for anything when I called before asking about the date my fiance's medical had been entered into the system. And we also asked whether they were just waiting on his passport and that's all in order to print the visa, and DOS told us "the embassy is still working on your visa, that is all we can say". Others have reported that DOS says the visa is under administrative processing without meaning the actual AP for those who have been approved pending documents. So DOS is being quite ambiguous lately, don't know why. I called DOS today to see what they have to say when I tell them that the embassy has received my fiance's passport, and I asked whether I should contact the embassy or DOS in regards to progress on the visa printing, and the lady informed me that I should call DOS regarding updates on the visa processing...which is interesting because last time I called just to see what they would have to say, the guy told me that I should be contacting the embassy not DOS regarding progress on my fiance's visa processing because my fiance's case is in progress at the embassy, not in Washington or wherever they send them for AP...

I will be calling DOS frequently next week regarding the printing of my fiance's visa, but I think in your case it is best to call the "extortion line" at the embassy (if you don't hear anything back from DOS or SMS by Tuesday) and ask for the email code and email the embassy asking about the exact status of your visa, whether it has been printed yet or not.

DOS do not have up to the minute information, and they have very basic information available to them thats why they can't tell you what exactly is happening. i rang them and they said I was in AP, i'm not it just means they are waiting on documents. yOU just have to wait and see. I am getting this birth cert. this week and then i'm sending off the passport and documents off next week. I dont get excited until it happens however.

yeah tomaran, i am wondering the same thing JimandChristy is....

and anyone else recently within the past two weeks send passport to the embassy, how long did it take to get it back?

The SMS people told my fiance over the phone that it would take approx 10-15 days total for my fiance to receive the passport back from the embassy...blink.gif

In reply to both your questions....
I booked the collection on friday 29th of may and yeah SMS told me 10 -15 days
They collected it on the 1st June and i got a text from them on friday the 5th saying it was ready for delivery back from the embassy.
Delivery was scheduled for before 12pm on monday the 8th june.
Nothing came so when i called SMS i was told they had only just received it. Anyway i paid an extra £20 on phone to have a pre 8am delivery and it came yesterday.

I'm guessing it all depends on the nature of the documents the embassy requested, and thats why i figure mine was a quick turnaround.
I'm pretty sure Marm yours will be pretty quick since all they need to do is put that pretty looking visa in your fiances passport and send it back (and it is pretty just wait till you see it hehe!)
Jimand Christy, not sure why yours took so long but only difference i can think was i paid the extra £5.90 both ways for collect and deliver (Plus extra £20 to have it back before 8)

Who knows, its all a money game....probably

Crumbs, so you paid in total £24.50 + £20.55 + £5.90 for the complete service? blink.gif What a complete rip off, I should have used Royal Mail to deliver the documents to the Embassy and use the Courier service on the return. Anyway I'm hoping for a quick turnaround because all I need to send in was a copy of my Co-sponsor's birth certificate.

Actually i paid £24.50 + £5.90 + £5.90 (collect and return pre 12pm) . I would have left it at that but didnt wanna waste another half day with work and stuff so i upgraded to pre 8am for (£20)
I dont care really not that i like throwing money away but we've been apart 3 years almost...visits in between of course, and quite frankly i'd sell everything i own to be with my soulmate.
Anyway when you have that bad boy in your hand you'll know it was worth any money spent!

changed the couriers date, no birth cert yet. nothing else to say at this point....angry upset and frankly i cant be bothered. willl post when i am in a better mood

ok well its morning. how is everyone doing. I have the co sponsor's tax return, and the birth cert isnt here because he only ordered it last night. if i get it tonight i iwlll get sms to come pick up the stuff in the morning (saturday) if not, then its going to have to be next week. at times this process just wears me down to the nub, thats how i was yesterday.

nonetheless, we are getting there!

I booked the courier for friday, but I dont know about recieving these papers on time, as this guy ..............deep breath....doesnt seem to understand the urgency. He is helping us, but taking his time to do it, not because he doesnt want to help us, he is busy. Well I will see.

After all the drama and blue slips, i received my visa this morning. Even though i am happy and very lucky to have got a result i know what it's like to be in the same boat as you guys, so I do sympathize and hope you all get your discrepancies sorted asap. Marm..I feel for you because it seems things are way beyond your control and your being forced to play a waiting game at the hands of the UKHO, but all good things you know.
PrimaJay..I know yours will get sorted out soooooooon, hardest part is gathering the extra documents requested and from my experience once you send them in they expedite it pretty quickly, mine was sorted out in 4 days, so once they come to collect all your stuff i figure you wont wait more than week.
My only gripe is that i sent off my original birth cert and translation along with copies and a note requesting they send the originals back...they did not! So now i have no original documents of either, just scans that i took on the computer.
I can only hope they are in the brown envelope they sent along with the visa and i'm hoping i can ask for them back at the POE. Good luck guys i'm chanting for you both..keep us posted.

Thaaaanks thats sweet............er....chanting??? lol. cool
Its gonna get here this i know. just hurry up already

YES Chanting !!! As in dancing round an animal sacrifice, muttering incomprehensible words, under the influence of ancient aztec plant material ! Works for me!! laughing.gif

dont forget the loin cloth, crazy village doctor dude, and virgin sacrifice..................er scratch the last part, this has to be achievable!!!! lol

OK according to SMS my passport and document should arrive at the Embassy tomorrow (Tuesday), why a £25 service takes two working days to deliver seems a bit of a rip off....anyway looking at previous cases on this thread fingers crossed I will get a reply for the return with a visa by Thursday or Friday at least. I want to fly out on the 23rd June but put off booking the tickets until I know the Visa is stamped inside the passport.

see now that sounds sensible. i however have lost every grain of sense with this process and booked my ticket for the 6th july.!!!!!! i will MARM, keep u posted. as for this passport thing it seems like you are in between a rock and a hard place, sue thier pants off, grt pain and suffering thrown in, but definately seek legal counsel first, b4 you do any of that. x

Thanks for the kind words tomaran, rose.gif really appreciate it, and it is my pleasure to be part of such a wonderful online support system for this incredulous visa journey.
Thanks for feeling our pain Nich yes.gif we have prepared 4 LETTERS of complaint and "forewarned" suing the UK Home Office for all the pain they have caused us if his passport issue is not resolved now. I mean he doesn't even want to stay in the UK anymore, give him back his damn passport and he will be out of there in no time...no reason for them to hold it when he has asked for a withdrawal...unless they lost it of course, which God forbid is not the case hopefully. Well, hopefully this week we resolve this issue...the hope is still there, I just wish things actually started falling in place for a change.
Will keep everyone updated!
Thanks for all your support everyone, it means a lot to us! yes.gif

Edited to add: Oh yes, he has tried to go in person, he is very near the main UK Home Office, but they refused to even talk to him...honestly foreign student in the UK aren't very high up on the food chain so the treatment isn't very welcoming no0pb.gif
But if only they could understand how much he is wishing to get out of there as much as they don't want to deal with UK student applications!

the ukho near st james park may not be where they are holding his passport, it may be in liverpool or any one of the other passport centres. Shoot after 7 months i'd take a train to whereever to get my passport back if that was all taht was stopping me get it . as we say in the WEst Indies, what dont kill, fatten!!! prima and jay,

thanks for the advice, we contacted my fiance's local MP about 2 months...was not successful. All he could tell us is write a letter stating that he has told the UKHO to update him periodically on my fiance's student visa extension status.

I didnt know that the ukho lost passports, i have always had a good response from them, particulary because i'm British and i can just go and pay for one at petit france on the day. If it is the case that he has to get a new passport, would the ukho pay for it, and possibly expedite it? What are the options is basically what i'm getting at.

Well, my fiance withdrew his FLR(S) application (in order to get his passport back) on May 22 and was told that he should get his passport back to him within 10 working days. He called the UKHO a few times over the week to find out if they had dispatched the passport or not, and they kept telling him the system still says "in processing" that is all that they can tell him and to call back on Monday June 08, 2009 if he still does not get it by then...this is so damn frustrating (excuse the cursing) but we don't know what to do...and I am getting more and more afraid that maybe the UKHO has lost his passport, he asked the customer service reps who pick up the calls (and make him wait 20-30 minutes and then feed him a line of b.s in 30 seconds about why he doesn't have his passport yet) to confirm whether they actually had his passport or whether it is lost and they said that they cannot confirm that for him, the IOs have that kind of information, and no he cannot talk to an IO...

I was reading this news article: http://www.dailymail...inal-hands.html

Not an outdated article, my fiance had applied for his FLR(S) in Nov of 2008. So we don't know what to do...the UKHO cannot confirm anything for us, they have proved to be full of BS...and the Pakistani Consulate cannot make him a new passport unless he has a police report confirming his passport is lost, and even if he gets one (which is IMPOSSIBLE from the UKHO) they take an average of 1 month to make him a new passport.

Bottom line: We don't know what to do at the moment. He will call on Monday and try his best to figure out what the hell is going on...(its not like he hasn't done it before, but what more can we do?).

P.S. It will be 27 days since his interview on Monday.

P.S. It will be 27 days since his interview on Monday.

is there someone, an M.P. that you can complain to, its the Home Secretary, ( Tessa Jowell)???? thats in charge of the passport, immigration thing, i'm not sure, ( someone help me out)

it can help to talking your local M.P. to do something. its what we pay them for.'
That an ornamental duck ponds and moats, but thats another story.

i'm so sorry your process is this frustrating, I KNOW how it feels to be this close, then have to wait and not feel in control. look s like we all have to find some way to feel in control in this process, or just let go.

MARM, you can do this, however long it seems now, you can get through it. Almost there.

I know how much that sucks, how long have you been waiting now? Hope to God you get some news soon, to ease the suffering and all

My interview was on the 24th of April so I have been waiting just over a month, seems like we might be getting the birth certificate this week, as well as the tax return ( which he forgot to put in), its just what day. so we'll see.

Right now i'm just mad at the whole process. even though I dont have a denial or waiver, i have seen ppl who have a lot less on thier tax return and just walk through. pisses me off. so even though i have been told that i can just send the papers in and get my visa, i wont believe until i see it. the unexpected is what i expect.

yes, it would hun. did you ask if you were approved at the window? or were you given the blue form with the first part ticked???
Well lady at the window gave me the blue form with the first part ticked and i asked her if i was approved and she replied yes but to send back the documents requested, passport etc..
But i got my US fiance to call up DOS to make sure and they said the same..approved but need the translated docs. So hopefully once they pick up my forms i'm banking on 10-15 before i get my visa.
Does that sound realsitic to you?
yeah it sounds pretty realistic some else said that there was a backlog at the embassy. when i rang up DOS they said i was in AP, apparently that means admin procession. not the horrible AP, i hope. i got the first part of the 221(g) form ticked too,it seems all of us who have had that ticked get our visa's within a reasonable time frame. some in five days some in 14. the most i have heard of is 14 days.

Hello,

I have posted this in the general consulate forum and now here. REally I would like UK'ers points of view. I have been told to furnish a co sponsor at interview, given a blue form. I asked the lady am I approved, she said yes, just send in the forms and you will have the visa before july. YOu know how you get when time passes a little and you start to think about things ( a little overmuch). Then you see others on the interview thread getting thier visa's and talking about POE. Its not nice.

If you have been told to furnish a co sponsor, or to give additional docs. CAn you share your experience, especially when you ring DOS. how long did it take to get your visa, are your still in the process now. Did you get a blue form at the embassy that had the first box ticked, then when you rang DOS were told that you were in AP? ????? I'm sure your answers will help not only myself but lots of other vj'ers.

I will keep you all filled in as to what happens next, ..................

Interviewed on 21st May 2009. Was told approved pending submission of my translated birth certificate. Apparently the one that was sent with my initial K1 app was not good enough for interview. Anyway called SMS who are picking up everything tomorrow (1st June) including my new £54 worth of certified all singing all dancing translated birth certficate. So now guess i wait like everyone else huh? Be nice to have an approximate wait time wouldnt it.......

Some of the operators at DoS use the term admin processing when they just mean the paperwork is being dealt with, not that the case is in formal AP undergoing additional checks. They explained this to me when they used the phrase and I freaked out as I'd just come out of AP at the NVC.

yes I freaked out, and sharply corrected him saying "ooh no I'm not in AP, i just have to send in some forms. I'm approved " lol, i remember my heart just sinking when he said those two letters. thanks for telling me though, it has cleared up some doubts in my mind. much appreciated.

Just want to recap everything for people who have been waiting/have recently waited after additional docs sent/AP (I am trying to make sense of the wait time after sending in what they ask for because of the supposed delays at the embassy as the embassy is claiming, so bear with me plz)

@ Magpie: interviewed 30th March, put in AP, out of AP 30th April, 5th May passport sent to embassy, 15th May: visa in hand (total wait from sending passport to getting back w/ visa: 10 days)

@Alixhilary: interviewed 27th April, 1st May sent off doc to embassy, May 19: visa in hand (total time from sending doc to getting passport back w/ visa: 18 days)

@paul.: interviewed 28th April, embassy received your docs May 1st, and you are still waiting for your passport???

@ prima and jay: are you in AP as I read somewhere in your posts? You said you called DOS and they told you that you were in Admin Processing? If this is correct, please let me know so I can change your entry on the London 2009 interview list and also let us know of what is going on...when did you send back the documents? When did DOS say you have been put in AP?

we have to send in co sponsor forms and one of the forms wasnt signed correctly, in the last box he put n/a k1 fiance visa. so yeah we have to send that in, but the lady at the counter said were approved just send docs in. dos said this about a week - 10 days ago, i'm still waitibg in docs from usa, havent sent them in yet. so i dont know. so do, change it .

United KingdomHow to deal with the down time

Hrmm, this was a while ago, and one relationship ago too  I'll tell you how I did it: I worked like a maniac...figured might as well bank some money while I was lonely. I went shopping with my friends, went out with friends at night occasionally, did projects around the house, took long baths, was a bit more self-indulgent with my time (ie facials in the bathroom, pedicures while sitting on the floor in my bathroom, etc), gym as well! I figured that once he came over, I wouldn't have that disposable time to indulge myself as much as I did.

I hated the saying 'oh my life will start once he's here' or the similar types. Life is now! Realizing that we're all lucky to wake up on the 'right side of the dirt' is a huge blessing, and I was determined to not spend it merely 'counting it away'. Now, I did almost die once, and this mindset is a product of such, so I dunno if it's really easy to grasp cos it does sound kinda 'PollyAnna'.

Saying that, I am now engaged to the true love of my life, and when I'm away from him (which is rare), my heart feels like there's a huge hole in it. I guess that's the difference between 'the wrong one' and 'the ONE'.

My heart goes out to everyone who is separated, because it truly does suck. But keep your eye on the prize!

agrees totallly.

I remember last year around this time going frantic because i was waiting on the visa, knowing I was approved then waiting and waiting and waiting. I used to ring him up crying " I cant do this anymore.. " and i really meant it. Yes it was blooming hard, and there were days when i used to sit my my class room and have these vivid flashbacks of times I spent with him, places I went here in the USA. your heart knows what it wants, I dont think anything you write or read here will help, maybe while reading it. you will turn away from the comp and be without him again. There is this consolation though, you found him and YOU are going to be with him.

I think knowing and believing that really helped me and now that i'm here with him and its fast approaching our first annversary, I keep looking to those times when I cried on the phone to him; missed him like crazy while I was teaching; sat down with friends, shopping going out but still missing him all the time I was with them and I feel somewhat privileged to have him now. Someone who will go through that with you is pretty awesome. He missed me as much as I missed him.

I know you want to hear something that will make it all just go away, so you can feel normal again, I'm afraid theres nothing like that except being with him and he with you. Keep busy, say your goodbyes to friends, family soak up all the good things about blighty... and keep the faith..

I hope you get your wish sooner rather than later.

xx

United Kingdomwatching british tv from usa

i downloaded the british tv exe from another site and cant get it to work... i type in the channel #, press enter, and it just closes :-|

update:

just checked the british tv blog site and the programmer says that the streams are down. you'll just have to be patient until he gets it up and running again... hopefully it wont be too long. The site that is dedicated to the vlc player british tv add on is : http://www.britishtv.us.to/. Go here for any updates on the current situation.

In the meantime:
you could always try using tor as a proxy to watch bbc iplayer and itv player as i do.
heres the link for doing it with google chrome ( although i just deleted g.chrome bcos it can make you vulnerable to malware, just a side note) http://www.webtvunle...e-uk-using.html

and if you are using mozilla firefox which I recommend: http://www.webtvunle...ng-to-work.html

heres an all in one package for uk tv catchup, it uses tor also, you can watch(catch up ) bbc iplayer, itv player, channel 5. http://www.webtvunle...ckage-beta.html

yes its pretty impossible to watch channel 4 with Tor, though if anyone manages to get around their protocols please let us know. i'm not that computer savvy..

I'm also so glad this got resurrected. It works great!! Thanks!

I'm glad, bcos i know I wanted to get my Corrie on. lol

If anyone wants to know how to watch itv player and bbc iplayer ( sorry channel 4 doesnt work.. they got some brainy ones over there they have) lemme know, i come back and check this post periodically.

yeaaah. good.

yankie you can use the vlc player and the add on to watch wimbledon in real time, and motd. btw world cup is on espn. but if you want to know how to set up a proxy to watch bbc iplayer and itv player. here it is
http://www.webtvunle...ng-to-work.html this is a step by step guide. If there is anything in the pics you cant see or its too small double click on the pic and it will be clearer for you

if you need further help you can look at this one:

http://hurwi.net/blog/?p=28

click that link she explains it well.
three things you need to have"

The exit nodes you put in the tor file are: AoF, yieV2eey, 3x0rcyst5p4dd3dc311, TickleMeElmo, Josephine, AMPD, LoveLibertyJustice

give it a try should take you about an hour. tweek it a little .if it doesnt work using the predefined patterns in mozilla, then use foxy proxy: tor setting , it takes a bit longer but i pretty much use it to watch bbc and itv player.

this is not difficult, but not piss easy either. if you take your time, it gets done.
all the best

Thanks Missus. I'm passing it on to the boss. He worked on the slingbox (that had quit) while we were in England recently. It works okay sometimes and there's an app for Slingbox on the iPod. So he watched some of a very teeny tiny Andy Murray play tennis yesterday.

no hbo works , it comes on at a certain time, i was watching bolt this morning. pretty cool. I'm glad you like it Gemmie.. its nice huh. film on is annoying with all the subsciption ish.. i[m over it. i think i missed coronation street. If anyone wants to know how to set up a proxy so you can watch bbc iplayer and itvplayer, i can post it here. please like me know.

There was a thread that was about watching uk tv online. I replied to it, saying use filmon hdi player. Filmon Hdi is only subscription now, and a bit of a pain. I could tell you all how to set up a proxy, but it can be time consuming.

Well this morning I have found something much better and I know how some of you miss your Brit tv. and it's fairly hassle free. just click on the link and download away.

1. First you have to download vlc media player.
2. make vlc player your default player ( you can do this from your default programs tab in the start menu, select VLC as default)http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
3. download this add on http://www.myp2pforum.eu/threads/25874 ( you can select the right one according to your platform , windows etc)

4. Unzip the file, you;ll see a British Tv.exe. click on that to unpack it

5. a little black screen will appear with a list of all the free channels ( and one bonus HBO) in the uk

6. Type the number or the full name of the channel you want

7. Vlc will automatically open and play said channel in real time.

Posted Image
Enjoy

channels you will be able to get are:

1. BBC One 23. CBeebies
2. BBC Two 24. CBBC
3. ITV 1 25. CITV

United KingdomThe 2009 United Kingdom Interview Thread!
QUOTE (sammills89 @ Jul 17 2009, 07:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
FINALLY got our interview date! It's a very strange and heart-warming story actually - I have no idea if any of you want to read this but here goes anyway smile.gif

So my 17 year old cousin was killed in a car accident 6 weeks ago in Canada, we're all understandably devestated and it has made me question whether or not I'd like to leave this country and all my family behind - knowing how it felt to not be able to be there for my family in Canada.

Well yesterday while I was at work, a robin flew down on to a sign near me and sat and watched me for a good 10 minutes - and this robin had a very strange orangey coloured breast. Now 3 things crossed my mind, this robin was out in the middle of July, it didn't have a red breast, and Josh (my cousin) loved the colour orange. So I thought all of this was very strange, and whenever I came outside again this robin flew back. This morning when I checked the post, after all the months of delay, I had a letter from the US embassy - and my interview date falls on Josh's 18th birthday, August 20th 2009!

Very nice to know he's still around watching over us. Well add us to the interview list at last, The Sam's - August 20th!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, thats so nice! Go get that approval, move, love, live. congrats

I really can't see that airline prices go up all that much with the time frame you are considering. Booking a flight a week out vs. 5 days out is probably the same (FULL) fare.

hey i discovered a little trick with booking tickets, when i had to go to my grandfather's funeral i noticed that the price went down in the 24 hours before the flight dramatically, so like all the flights to Jamaica were £600, went down to £290 and thats what i paid. If you go to expedia and put in tomorrows date or the day after. I just went to expedia and looked for flights today, bearing in mind that its peak time the discount is not as much, tickets to detroit ( yeah i know) 483 30th june, on the 1st of july they are £556, not quite half like it was but if you try the other sites like Opodo a day before you want to travel you can get good discounts.
If not do it a week before, sometimes its just nice to have it done.

all the best
