I'm Renee, 30, from Michigan. He's from Montego Bay. We met in May while I was vacationing. And have talked on the phone every day since. I went back to visit 10/3 - 10/7. He proposed 10/5 at this great restaurant that was a boat. We haven't filed yet, things are moving pretty quickly but we both know we need to make sure we really know each other. This whole situation seems so surreal but incredibly right at the same time. I am so thankful I found all of you. It helps talking to people who have experienced the same thing.

Woo hoo kicking.gif Michigan is in the house!! Congrats on the proposal! Even if you file your paperwork now, you'll have plenty of time while you're waiting for an approval to continue getting to know each other blush.gif I knew the process would take months, so we filed as soon as we could - not being 100% sure yet - but by the time that approval came we were soooooo ready to be together. Whatever you do, do NOT waste your money on an immigration lawyer. Everything you need is right here on this site. If you can't find something, just ask. Good luck good.gif

Hi everyone! How do you guys deal with having your man so far away? I'm missing mine so much. (And I've only been away from him for 6 days, lol.) Just looking for ideas that maybe I haven't tried yet.

Welcome to the Yardie thread luv.gif My hubby is out-of-town for work right now so I feel your pain! Here are my suggestions: talk on the phone often - I know it's expensive, but it helps! Keep some pics of the two of you together nearby so you can look at them often. I don't know if he has internet access, but you could send e-mails or pm's. Steal a t-shirt or some other clothing from him and wear it to bed so you can smell his scent devil.gif And you can always come on here and get support.

I sat around with some girls (women?) one day talking about girly things. One girl was a masseuse (sp?). She went into great detail about how much money she was making by offering "extras" with their massages. She so matter-of-factly stated facts. I probably had flies buzzing around my gaping mouth.
For me, in my life, it just isn't every day stuff. When I was in Jamaica, it seemed to be.

That's how I must have looked when Tony first told me what goes on in the topless/ go-go bars in Jamaica. As far as offering "extras" with their lap dances. I was appalled and sick to my stomach sad.gif Yes, I know it happens here occasionally, but not right in the middle of the bar with everyone watching! From what Tony said, if you go into a bar like that in JA, you expect that's going to happen. It's crazy.

He asked me why the sun shines outside if it's cold. Well, I went to work, and I get a call from him...teeth chattering and breathing labored. He decided I didn't know what I was talking about when I told him it was 28 degrees outside. He woke up looked out the window at the beatiful sun rays...and decided to take a morning jog...in shorts and a marina. By the time he realized that no matter how close the sun looked...no matter how fast he ran...he couldn't warm up. No to mention that people in cars and the neighbors were staring at him like he had lost his mind. He said it was the hardest run in the world to get back to the house because he was frozen solid. We still laugh about it to this day.

laughing.gif Oh my gosh, Tony did something similar to this on his first day here! He also thought because the sun was out and shining bright, it must be warm out. He put on shorts and a tank top and flip flops and comes running to wake me up. He says to me, wake up it's hot and sunny and nice. I asked him if he had been outside yet. He said no. I told him to go outside and check the weather. He came running back in and put on jeans and a sweatshirt and tennis shoes laughing.gif He just couldn't believe that it could LOOK so nice but be so chilly!

Yes, I agree with this yes.gif Even though in my opinion, life is better here, Tony was happy in JA and originally never wanted to move here. (Especially when I told him how cold it is in the winter!) He would definately go back if we split up - we've talked about it before. That's where his family is. Even though he has some friends here now, it's just not the same. He LOVED his job that he had when I met him and he liked having family and cousins and friends around all the time. Also, just the whole laid-back atmosphere.

The sad part is that not all international relationships/marriages end because the immigrant partner got their greencard. However, just because it is that type of relationship, any other normal relationship issues will take a backseat to the perceived notion that the immigrant partner look for papers only. The divorce rates in America are astonishing between two American citizens. So, why can't the international relationships end for the same reasons? Why does the unfortunate demise of these relationships get pigeon-holed into one catergory? Why can't it be that the two realized that they were just not compatible living together, although they tried everything to keep their love in the forefront?
