We've had this discussion on here before and I totally disagree with you. yes.gif What are you basing this off of? You can get an education ONLY IF you can afford to pay for school, pay for books, pay for uniforms, and pay to get to and from school. Here in the U.S. education is free to everyone. Not to mention, the standards are a lot different. My husband went up through 10th grade and can barely read and write. Here, you wouldn't even get past 2nd grade without these basic skills.

I'm curious as to why you think this? Is it the slower pace of things? The friendly people? How do you define "quality of life"? I see how many of Tony's family and friends live down in JA and I could never live that way. I'm just curious.

they lock up plenty of people in this country everyday for having weed on them do they get a blood test to see if they're using? They get fined depending on the quantity and released back into society, are they still going to USE ILLEGAL drugs ?

Actually, yes, they do get drug tested. Most of them are put on probation and have to do a drug test once a month (or more) and the results go to their probation officer. If they don't show up for a test, they automatically get a warrant out for their arrest. The whole point I was trying to make is that the U.S. is not going to knowingly allow someone from another country who uses drugs to come here to live. They have enough drug problems here as it is.

Speaking of when and how we met, we haven't compared stories in a long while. How did you ladies meet your boyfriend/fiance/husband? How long did you know each other before you filed? How many times have you been to Jamaica?

I was on a Single's Cruise on Carnival. It stopped off in Grand Cayman and then Jamaica. While in Jamaica, I went on a "booze cruise" to Dunn's River Falls. Tony worked on the catamaran that took us on the cruise (the Cool Jazz). It was love at first sight!! luv.gif We flirted, he got me drunk on rum punch and the rest is history devil.gif I gave him my number when I got off the boat and he called me about a week later. We begin talking every day, and 2 months later I went back to JA. I was there 6 times altogether before he moved here to the U.S. Since then, we've been back 3 times together and him once by himself for a funeral. We really only knew each other for about 5 months before we filed the K-1. We didn't officially get engaged until after we sent in the paperwork!! blush.gif We just knew we couldn't live without each other and if we had to get married more quickly than we liked, so be it. My question to all is why are we working so hard to pay for EVERYTHING!! Visas, travel, even our own wedding. I mean....are these men contributing ANYTHING to the process? Shouldn't he be working his butt off to pay for his plane ticket or at least the cost of his passport and visa. Whats that all about? I understand the pay scale is different in Jamaica, but the need is still the same as here in the US.....so if he wants to come here, and be with you, he should be paying for it. Him not paying for at least 40% of this process is a problem to me. And if he can't afford it then he cant come til he can! I mean this is residency into the most sought after country in all the WORLD....this is a big move and "accomplishment" to say the least....if someone really wants it...they will make a way to get it paid for......

Just something to ponder.

I think it depends on the situation. I know in MY situation, I made about 10 times more money than Tony did at the time. It wouldn't have been fair to split it 50/50. He chipped in with whatever he could along the way. I was fine with that. If we had to wait for him to pay for 100% of things, we may still not be married! It just wasn't feasible. Anyway, question that I have is..... should we have been sent a wedding invitation? I mean 150 people were coming to the wedding!! Craig had no clue what his brothers wife's name is.

ohmy.gif That is absolutely crazy!! Of course you should have gotten an invitation! We only had about 30 people at our wedding and we still sent out invitations to everyone! That's just rude of them. Not to mention, a little more notice would have been nice.

I'm Renee, 30, from Michigan. He's from Montego Bay. We met in May while I was vacationing. And have talked on the phone every day since. I went back to visit 10/3 - 10/7. He proposed 10/5 at this great restaurant that was a boat. We haven't filed yet, things are moving pretty quickly but we both know we need to make sure we really know each other. This whole situation seems so surreal but incredibly right at the same time. I am so thankful I found all of you. It helps talking to people who have experienced the same thing.

Woo hoo kicking.gif Michigan is in the house!! Congrats on the proposal! Even if you file your paperwork now, you'll have plenty of time while you're waiting for an approval to continue getting to know each other blush.gif I knew the process would take months, so we filed as soon as we could - not being 100% sure yet - but by the time that approval came we were soooooo ready to be together. Whatever you do, do NOT waste your money on an immigration lawyer. Everything you need is right here on this site. If you can't find something, just ask. Good luck good.gif
