My dear, I think we are all glued to our tv sets watching every report that comes in about Dean and Jamaica.

I know that's ALL I have watched for the past 24 hours unsure.gif I'm having flashbacks from the time Tony was still in Jamaica during Hurricane Ivan. My trip got screwed up THEN too ranting33va.gif I was due to fly in 2 days later and I cancelled because all the power was still out and the Embassy was closed indefinately.

Rhonda, even if you could get there are you sure you want to?

No, that's why I cancelled my trip. My flight still flew down there so I could have gone, but then I would have been in the middle of the Hurricane the next day!! wacko.gif

Well, I didn't go to Jamaica after all. I was all set to go but I changed my mind early Saturday morning before my flight was due to take off. I am really, really depressed. crying.gif sad.gif I was sooooo looking forward to this vacation. Tony is still down there! Thank God he's ok. I just talked to him at 11:30pm (Sunday night) and the worst of the storm has passed. I may try to fly down on Tuesday depending on how bad the damage is and if the airport is reopened.

Thank you everyone for your prayers. At least the eye of the hurricane never hit Jamaica. I hope the people along the south coast are ok.

:ot: So Dean is now officially a Cat 1 hurricane (almost Cat 2) and current path takes it right over JA. They are now predicting it could get up to Cat 4 by Tuesday, which I think could be the day it will be closest to Jamaica.
Keeping all our loved ones in prayer... :(

Yeah, it's officially a category 2 now :( And I'm flying to Jamaica on Saturday :crying: My original trip was planned for November and I had to change it when I found out I was pregnant and my due date was in December. Why does this have to happen NOW???? :ranting:

Anyone else following the national hurricane center weather forecasts? Things look pretty interesting for the weekend around JA.

mr jengles is due to arrive tomorrow and its going to rain here tomorrow nite i hope his flight doesn't get delayed into the weekend

Don't worry, a little rain won't delay him  Where do you live? I forget.

Yes, I am totally freaking out right now :( Tropical Storm Dean is heading right for Jamaica :o I fly out on Saturday morning. I am hoping and praying that it either changes it's track or stays a tropical storm and does NOT progress into a Hurricane!!!!

Are you sure they are "waiving" it? I wouldn't count on that till we hear something official. I don't remember Sarah saying that Marlon had to sign a waiver and he didn't have his non-impediment either. If I remember right, she said he wasn't even asked for it.

We all know how they seem to change the rules depending on how the wind is blowing on any given day.

Anyone reading this, please continue to get that non-impediment form until we hear something officially.

She did NOT say that they are waiving it. Simply wondering IF they may waive it.

Ha Ha Ha...........I remember when Andre first came here and insisted he could never get used to hot water, baths, air conditioning, heat.......my favorite.........he could never wear long sleeves. Um, yah, that all changed our first winter and then on till now.

Enjoy it now, cause you will have some great funny stories to tell and soon it will all just be memories as he acclimates more and more.

 Tony is in Jamaica now and he stayed at his cousins the last two nights. I asked him how he slept and he said (kinda quietly) that he sorta misses his air conditioning!!!! :P AND he had to take a cold shower - poor baby! I said to him now you know how I felt the first time I came to Jamaica and I had to take a cold shower!!

The time to file would have been several years ago when you didn't even need to have an appointment. When you had all your docs together you just showed up at the embassy between certain times on certain days for your interview. Oh to have gone through the process then

Yes, that's what we did. We got delayed by Hurricane Ivan or else we would have gotten the visa 2 weeks earlier than we did! And we got to pick it up 4 business days after he got approved  We interviewed on a Friday and picked it up the next Thursday.

We also didn't need the non-impediment to marriage form.

As soon as you arrive to help me pack, move, and paint the new house!!!  Don't worry - I'll supply the liquor!

Congrats girl. Packing and moving is a Biii@@@! I still has stuff in boxes in my garage since I bought my house and moved in in December 2005. My heart goes out to you. Do not drag anything you won't use to the new place. But you must know that. LOL

Claire

Yeah, I already got rid of a bunch of stuff. Sold or gave away all my college textbooks (about 40 books!). Donated a bunch of stuff to a garage sale in which proceeds go to an animal shelter. Donated 9 semi-formal dresses and 3 pairs of shoes to Hope Closet which helps low-income girls go to the prom and such. And threw about 3 garbage bags and an old desk out in the trash ;) And I'm just getting started!!!

:o  Oh my gosh! I am appalled by what these guys are saying! Talk about stereo-typing. The kind of women they're talking about don't even WORK! If I didn't work 50-60 hours a week, I would happily do all the cooking, cleaning, and house work too! Without nagging. What a bunch of sexist pigs. They're talking about how ALL American women are fat and overweight? Let's take a look at American MEN why don't we!!! Can we say beer belly?

I'm still stressed out  Still haven't found a house yet! The first 2 that I made offers on wouldn't lower their price enough to meet my budget. The 3rd one got sold right after they rejected MY offer :( They didn't even counter-offer. We're looking at more tonight.

Tony leaves for Jamaica on Monday and I leave next Saturday. I haven't even begun packing or getting ready yet and I have an out-of-town wedding this weekend that's going to take up all my time. I'm going crazy  :crying: :bonk:

Maybe I'll just stay in Jamaica and live in a little hut on the beach  It would be cheaper!!

Two more days and I'll be in the air flying to Kingston. I am retyping the DS-156 after finding a typo. What is the correct entry for the "State/Province" box? The sample shows the City in this box. I repeated the city in this box and now wonder if maybe I should put "None" or just leave it blank? I’m a perfectionist so all these form seem to be taking me forever to finish.

That box would be the state that you live in - Michigan, Georgia, etc... For Jamaica, I believe it would be the Parish - St. Ann, St. Mary, etc..

I say he should go to the interview and show them his reciept and let them know that the situation is OUT OF OUR HANDS! #######? What should we do??????

He DEFINATELY needs to go to the interview as planned. The worst thing they will do is give him a 'blue slip' and he will have to come back with the non-impediment form when he gets it.

I am so stressed out :crying:  I still haven't found a house yet :( I leave for Jamaica in 13 days, and a few days after we come home, we close on my house. Then we're homeless!! I have made 2 offers already on 2 different houses, but they would not come down enough to get within my budget. All the cheaper houses are yucky. I guess we'll just pitch a tent in my parents backyard and live in that! :help: I had NO idea that this process was sooooo stressful. When I bought my current house, it was easy since I still lived at home and didn't have to sell a house in order to buy a house.

Yah, me too. But, my charges up to that PRICELESS were a lot higher then yours, Sarah. I couldn't help but think you are lucky when I read it.

I was just thinking the same thing...I spent TONS more before I got to the priceless part...tons I tell ya

I'm frugal and a bargain hunter! Not too mention that Marlon and I don't feel the need to talk so often, sometimes we go a couple of weeks but we ALWAYS text each other. We also mail stuff to each other.

Same here. I spent that much every 2 months while I was dating Tony  Sarah - how many times have you been to Jamaica? Where do you stay when you go down there? I always stayed in a hotel - Tony's family didn't have room and he shared a 1 bedroom apt. with his cousin and I need my privacy!! ;) So if I added up all 6 of my trips plus the visa fees plus phone bills ---- on my gosh, I don't even want to think about it!! :(

A couple of weeks?? Whoa...I can't even go a couple of days!!! But then, I am a talker

I don't really eat beef in JA either. I eat chicken, fish, and lots of shrimp! I'm not a big beef eater anyways, and I'm really picky about my beef. Now, I have had pizza in JA and even though it's different from ours, it's really good yes.gif I'm getting hungry!

Anyway...the above receipe is dead on for cornmeal porridge! Just don't forget to keep stirring... or it will get clumpy and lumpy! Keep the fire low after you put the cornmeal in...Viola!! Yummy Yummy...I used to make it for my sons when they were babies, usually at the 10-11pm feeding...when they turned 7-8 months...I used their formula instead of milk!

Trust me Rhonda, it's something to keep in mind...cause it holds them! My sons slept through the night after they had their cornmeal bottle! yes.gif And Mommy could finally get a full nights sleep! yes.gif

I better start practicing now blush.gif I'm not much of a cook! You said you put it in their bottle? Is it that thin that it would flow through or did you make it thinner for them? I've never eaten it so I have no idea what to expect. I might surprise Tony and make some before he gets home from work one day!

Ok, I just googled cornmeal porridge and found another recipe on jamaican-recipes.com Ladies let me know if this sounds all right. Here it is:

Cornmeal Porridge
1 cup Yellow Cornmeal (coarse or fine)

4 cups Water

¼ cup Half and Half (or Milk)

½ cup Sweetened Condensed Milk

2 tbsp. Sugar

¼ tsp. Nutmeg (ground)

¼ tsp. Cinnamon (ground)

Vanilla Flavoring (2 drops)

Add cornmeal to a bowl, and then pour enough water into the bowl to cover the cornmeal. Use a fork to mix the cornmeal in the bowl to let the water and cornmeal mix loose and watery.

Bring the 4 cups of water to boil in a saucepan. Turn the heat to medium.

Slowly pour the water and cornmeal into the saucepan while stirring with a fork. You will have to stir the mix continuously for about 3 minutes. Make figure eight patterns if you like; this will stop the cornmeal from forming lumps. Be careful from this point on.

The porridge will splash and burn your hand if the heat is too high. Turn the fire down even more if the splashes from the pot become large. Cover the pot and let simmer for about twenty minutes. Occasionally stiring the mixture in the pot.

Turn off the fire but do not remove the pot from the stove. Now add all the ingredients, except the nutmeg. Stir to sweeten this Jamaican porridge and then taste it. Add more ingredients of your choice to get the desired taste. Serve in small soup bowls and sprinkle with ground nutmeg.
