One funny thing that happened this week the tornado drill alarm went of Tuesday morning. They test the alarm system but I forgot to tell him. I was at work so he ran to the basement and was totally freaked out. He called my father and he told him it was a drill that he would live. I laughed my head off when he told me. He said my dad didn't think it was that funny. He is deathly afraid that a tornado is going to hit our house.

 Poor guy!!! That had to be scary.

But he can't get a SS# until a couple of weeks after he's been here. If we're trying to make the 7/30 deadline that might take too long.

I don't think we sent any "proof" with our AOS application. We did bring some stuff to the interview though - bank statements in both our names, ticket stubs from a vacation we took together, wedding pics, etc... And then 2 years later you will need a TON of proof to lift "conditions" (I-751) - we just sent ours in

Are the tins of ackee any good? Dwain said they aren't great.

Not really  They're nothing like the real thing. Once in awhile they're ok if you're really craving it, but I have a hard time paying that much for a tin!! Now if it were the real thing, I'd pay it with a smile :D

Right now all I am thinking we need is a crib, a baby sling, 10 onesies, 7 sleepers, 5 pairs of socks, car seat, 5 bottles, 1 new born hat, digital thermometer, baby nail clipper, 5 blankets, gentle baby wash, disposable wipes, and lots of diapers. I guess my list is long but I think this is all we need for the start. My girlfriends later on want to hold a shower for me but I am so not into showers. We will see when the time comes. What do you think are the basics you need to have?

Let them throw you the shower!!! I LOVE showers. You will get so much stuff you need. I registered at Babies-r-us for all the "basics" we think we need. And trust me, my list is waaaaaaay longer than yours! yes.gif What about a stroller? highchair? swing? baby monitor? They will make your life easier. I'm not saying you need to go crazy like some mommies do, but most of these things are considered 'basic' needs. You're also gonna need (at the very least) crib sheets, bottles, and pacifiers. Even if you breast feed, you're still gonna need a few bottles. You'll need a breast pump too for when you go back to work or you're not with the baby.

In marriage husband and wife are to unite as one unit, and I understand you say your parents are very racist but it sounds like you are living your life to please them and your "husband" has been put on the back burner. Your parents don't have to accept him but you are not doing the marriage or him as man any respect whatsoever. You don't want your son subjected to their ways but he's living a double life acting as if you are not married and living with Craig, but when he comes home he has to treat Craig as a stepfather. As women how do you feel about having your first marriage at the courthouse? I wonder if she would later feel cheated or bad about doing this. Is it worth saving this time by having a courthouse marriage? I would like a women's perspective on this.

I personally don't like the idea of getting married in a court house. I wanted my family and close friends to be present. I wanted the dress and the flowers and the cake, etc... Luckily, we were able to throw together a nice little wedding in less than 2 months time. We had a small church ceremony and then a luncheon at Olive Garden (nice Italian restaurant). We only invited about 30 people - it was very small and personal. We just had 2 people stand up - my sister and my friends Jamaican husband (whom Tony had befriended by that point!) So, it can be done in a short amount of time and not too much money. My mom even threw us a bridal shower 1 month after Tony got here - it was NOT even planned until after he arrived.

I am concerned that Donna's mom may need her there in Jamaica before any of this paper work goes through. Would she have a problem getting back into the country with her current K-1 visa? Her visa is dated to expire the end of November.

She can NOT re-enter the U.S. again with her K-1 Visa. That is good for ONE entry only. She must have the AP (Advanced Parole) document before she leaves the country again. Or wait for her green card. If you think she'll need to travel fairly quickly, you need to apply for the AP (I-131).

Craig complained for months that America has TOO MANY rules and restrictions.

So ladies (and men) ....just the simple things with not being able to drink a beer and walk up and down the street. Craig used to sit up on along the roadside and he couldn't "understand" why everyone would watch him and give him weird looks. Wearing a seatbelt ALL the time in the car. Keeping ALL the lights and radio on while he wasn't here. I mean the list goes on and on and on and on.

Yes, Tony still complains of all the rules and regulations here in the U.S. And he got so ticked off the first time he figured out that he couldn't just walk out of a bar/club with his beer in his hand wacko.gif (I never thought to warn him about this so he actually tried to do it and had like 3 bouncers chasing after him into the parking lot!) Explain this to your drunk Jamaican who is used to doing just that when the urge strikes!!

You have a year to file for AOS. The only problem I can think of would be EAD as I'm guessing you will think Marlon needs to work. I don't have the answer on the EAD cause we filed with our AOS. I'm sure someone on here will.

I don't agree with this at all no0pb.gif Their K-1 Visa is only good for 90 days - once that expires, they are out of status. You are technically supposed to file for AOS BEFORE the 90 days is up. That's why they say to file immediately after you get married. I know some people have waited, but I don't recommend it.

This is what it says under FAQ for Adjustment of status:

6.1)...How soon after we get married should we apply for Adjustment of Status?

A..Right away, or at least right after your honeymoon. You should make every effort to get the Adjustment application filed within 90 days of the fiance(e) entering the United States, which is when the K-1 status expires, as indicated on the I-94.

Filing for Adjustment of Status within the 90 days protects your legal status. Your legal status as a K1 expires after 90 days, married or not. The only way to protect your legal status is to apply for Adjustment of Status, and the only way to maintain continuous legal status is to file for AOS before the K1 visa expires. On the practical side, it is often difficult to arrange for the marriage, and get all the paperwork ready in time to file for AOS within 90 days. Many newsgroup couples have filed for AOS a few days or weeks after the 90 day limit with no problems. Thus far, newsgroup experience has shown this is not a major issue with local USCIS (INS) offices.

offtopic45vn.gif I must say, I don't like that book very much. It's hard to read and reminds me too much of a text book. I really liked "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" and "Pregnancy Sucks" tongue.gif They were much easier to read and they were entertaining, yet still gave you lots of useful information. Jax - if you're reading this, pay attention luv.gif

I will have to start taking some folic acid and other vitamins so this morning sickness stops. I didn't even eat anything in the morning and when I woke up spew. Then to make it worse two of my students spewed on me today. My lovely day.

Thanks everyone for the congrats. I really didn't think it would happen so quickly. Rhonda how is everything going in your kneck of the woods? luv.gif

Be aware that some prenatal vitamins can actually make morning sickness worse. Some women can't stomach them. I had no problems - I take a prescription one called "Prenate Elite". I also took additional vitmain B6 during the 1st trimester to help with the morning sickness. Also, I found that I was actually sicker when I didn't eat! I had to keep something in my stomach all the time - crackers, toast, pretzels - to keep the nausea at bay.

Things are good with us. I closed on my house on Friday (Aug 31) and we will close on the new house this Thursday, Sept. 6. Then Tony has a lot of painting to do whistling.gif and we have to get new carpet before we move in. I'm also trying to get ready for my baby shower which is going to be at the end of October. I'm registering at Babies-r-us which is fun, but also stressful trying to figure out everything that I will need wacko.gif
