From what I've read, it's a BAD thing to try reschedule....Is there NO way you can cancel going out of town???

Not really. I have a mandatory 2 weeks off work the first 2 weeks in July (all the auto companies shut down then) and I am forced to take my vacation time then. We are going up-north for 4 nights and another couple is also going with us. I can't post-pone it because I have friends from Kansas coming to stay with us right after we get home for 10 days!! The only other vacation I have for the rest of the year is the one week we're going to Jamaica in August.

People must re-schedule these things all the time right?

Yeah but the only option available to talk with him! At least now I can call him more often and for less!

Why can't you use a calling card??? You can find one for half the price you're paying per minute

i've been racking up horrendous phone bills ever since i stopped using my prepaid phonecard service. i pay 38 cents/min and a 4 dollar monthly fee. i was going to look at ringyard but now fiance has mega fone (even thought it ain't working right now).

We use Ringyard - it's only 19 cents a minute and no monthly fee or any other fees ;) I highly recommend it.

Bad news - we also got our appt. letter for the Biometrics appt. and we're going to be out of town on that day :( Has anyone ever rescheduled their biometrics appt? What do you guys think?

Newbie here, been a lurker for a year but now have started the process. Just want to say hello and hopefully I did so in the correct place....and that it actually will show up!

the 221g says

request for more proof of relationship
fiance presence recommended

I hate to say this, but this is why all us Vets recommend that the U.S. fiance/spouse attend the interview. It seems that the only time the guys get hassled is if you are NOT there with him. You hardly ever seen a blue slip issued when the U.S fiance attends the interview.

I don't remember, but do you guys have a big age difference between you? This is another thing they will really, really hassle you about.

Good luck and keep on trying

She even had the audacity to comment on my weight (she is much larger than me and has diabetes because of it) and when she would share out the food she would "make a special plate for Jamie because she doesn't need all that extra food" and then pile hers to the top...oh man I about bit clean through my tongue trying to keep it in

Oh NO she didn't!!!!  :bonk: I would NOT have been able to keep my mouth shut!!

Likkle problem....

we got approved with a blue paper requesting that i come to the embassy to answer some questions. what the heck is that all about?

 Tony's cousin does the same thing - he wanted me to leave him my Nike tennis shoes (he has small feet so mine fit him) then last time Tony and me came home and I noticed his Adidas flip-flops were missing - that I had bought for him! He left them with his cousin who kept bugging him about it

Have you had issues with any of his friends yet? We've gotten calls to send anything from $20-$200 to help with food, a cell phone, buying a car, and plane tickets.

This still drives me crazy and Tony's been here almost 3 years now! Parents, cousins, friends, ... everyone thinks we're rich just because we live a 'farrin. And Tony hates to tell them that he's broke - I just wish they'd quit asking for stuff. He was talking to his dad the other day and getting his clothes and shoe sizes - he told him he's going to bring him some stuff in August. Instead, his dad asked for money to buy a boat motor :o Sorry - you're gonna have to settle for some pants, a shirt, and some new shoes!!! We already spent over $300 on clothes and shoes for his 2 kids and $$$ for his mom and 2 nieces. The list just goes on and on.

Yeah, I'm still on midnights. Both of my bosses already know I'm pregnant. Midnights is actually all right for now because it's less stressful and I can relax more

Hey everyone, things are going a lot better for me. The job deal is not a sure thing yet. Tony told me to quit worrying  They have some other options up in the air right now - I'm hoping something local works out! If not, we will come up with some type of compromise when the time comes. Thanks everyone for your support :luv:

We had a really good weekend. Tony cooked me ackee & saltfish  (The ackee was $14 for a can). I've been craving it sooooo bad and the tinned ackee tasted better than I remember it being - maybe because I haven't had it in so long! Then on Sunday he cooked us some nice Jamaican beef soup - yam, carrot, cho-cho, pumpkin, ####### Soup, dumpling - Yummy!! I guess he knows how to butter me up after a fight  Just feed me!!

has anyone here had a beneficiary family member try to get a travel visa to attend the wedding? we want his mom and sister to come, and it's time for me to write the invitation letter. if anyone has any tips on how the kingston embassy handles this i'd appreciate it. i'm going to try to research it now.

My friend Jackie (a VJ vet from a long time ago) and her hubby tried to get his brother here for their wedding. He is actually here in Michigan THIS week visiting. He JUST got his visitors Visa - their THREE year wedding anniversary is this August :o  He didn't quite make it in time for the wedding!!

Ending my journey

I would just like to say that I'm ending my Visa Journey, I don't think my fiance is ready for marriage, we have gone through a lot and I have tolerated a lot to get to this point, I have finally decided that it makes no sense to continue to relationship anymore and I'm officially ending my Journey. Thanks for all you answers and personal messages.

I'm sorry to hear that. Only YOU know what is best though. Like others have said, even though it's painful, it's better that you realize things now rather than after you get married and continue on with this process. Hang in there (F)

That's the first thing I said too. He claims he's tried, but I know otherwise. This just seems like a huge money making opportunity to him and he can not be talked out of it. Rhonda - stay in prayer. Hubby is thinking of the $ that will provide a better life for you and the baby, and he figures that if you two made it thru immigration being in diff. countries, then him being a few states away should be a breeze. I know you don't agree with it (and if I were in your shoes I wouldn't either) but if he is set on it then sit down with him and work out a plan that includes some compromising (L)

Thanks Jonesie :luv:

rhonda, i'd also be shocked and insanely pissed off if my husband signed papers to do something as major as that without first consulting me. i can't believe that he has his mind set on it. he's actually okay with potentially (or probably) missing the baby's birth?

He says he's going to take a month off when the baby is born, but how's he going to know exactly when I'm going to go into labor??? He's such as a**hole :ranting: The "D" word came up today more than once. We had another HUGE fight over the phone.

Does your company have any branches where he's going to be working??
If they do, maybe you could transfer without losing your benefits?

No - no GM plants down there. It's very difficult to transfer too even if there was. Also, I need to be near my doctor - the appointments are just going to get more frequent as I get further along. I've been with the same doc for over 10 years. Since I'm slightly high risk, I need someone who knows my history to keep an eye on me.

I talked to Andre about this last night and he said your husband is crazy. He said he doesn't even want to work the night shift cause he wants to be able to sleep next to me.

I'm really starting to think he just doesn't love me or care about me anymore :crying:

My temper in this sistution would be crazy mad. I would talk to him and try to reason with him.

Add to that my raging hormones and out of control emotions and it's no wonder we had a HUGE fight yesterday over the phone :crying: He mentioned this whole thing about a month ago and I told him THEN that it was a very bad idea and I was not going to be ok with it. Then he tells me yesterday that he already signed the paperwork for it  :ranting: Without even talking it over with me!! I'm hurt, upset, mad, scared, worried ..... I'm losing my mind. Damien and I are in a similar situation. We had a talk recently about moving overseas...we both agreed that it would be nice to experience living somewhere else in the Caribbean or Africa but Kingston would be nice.

Sorry you missed out on that. At least Damien could have moved there WITH you. Tony knows I can't move right now. He wants to go there anyways to work - without me  I can't leave my job right now - I need my benefits and my maternity leave, not to mention I can't get time off thru FMLA if I haven't been at the same job for at least 12 months. So no way can I go down there.

WOuld it be worth talking to his mom or sister maybe?
They would understand how you feel about being left alone while pregnant, even though I'd go ape even if I wasn't!!

I would be scared of being home alone, when you're pregnant ANYTHING can happen :(
Again, you hardly see enough of him as it is with your crazy shifts....

Maybe sitting him down and telling him how much you love him and how much you desperately need him around now more than ever might work.

The only sister he had is deceased and his mother is really nice, but really hard for me to understand. We don't talk on the phone except to say hello, how are you. If he is still set on this crazy idea, in August when we go to Jamaica, I will talk to his mom or his dad.

I'm scared to death of him leaving while I'm pregnant :crying: I am so upset and worried I can't stop thinking about it. He's in Indiana this week - we're supposed to talk when he gets home this weekend. But he is so stubborn and hard-headed I can't get through to him. He just see's $$$ signs.

Ladies I have a big dilemma. Tony wants to go to Louisiana to work for 8 months! :o The work would start in September. The baby is due in December. He says he would come home on weekends. I have a HUGE problem with this and he doesn't seem to understand or he just doesnt' care. All he sees are $$$ signs. I do not want to be a single mom. This is my first baby - I am scared to death :( I do not want a weekend relationship with my husband - I want him there every day. I had enough of long distance relationship BS when he was still in Jamaica.

Not to mention, there are no direct flights from there to Detroit and the flights cost about $400 each!! That would be $1600 a month in plane fares plus he would have to rent an apartment down there for during the week. He doesn't seem to understand the insanity of his plan. The more I try to talk him out of it, the more stubborn and determined he is to make it happen. Please advise :help: :crying:
