I don't think ANYONE should leave the board. I don't care whether I agree with you or not. But it doesn't make sense to let other people and other people's opinions run you from someplace. I don't think anyone would say that this thread has not been helpful. I think it continues to be helpful, no matter what stage you're in, even if you're completely finished with paperwork.

Yes, I agree  It also helps the time go by when you're at work at 3am in the morning

Oh my gosh my hubby says we can't find out until the day we have a kid. He researched my illness online and told me I had to have a section to make sure I was safe and baby. He is like my father I swear. We have our names already picked out. Do you guys have any names you both like?

Me and Tony can NOT agree on names   We're going to wait until we find out the sex so at least that will cut our options in half!! Jax, do you mean hubby wants you to have a C-section if you get pregnant???

So......how many vets are we losing because some new folks do not know how to act in this thread???? Personally, I am taking my beef off line and moving on.....It is really sad because I think everyone has different experiences and perspectives to share and some of them can be most helpful and eye opening.

So...with that bit of footage....I sign out...this thread has become something I simply can not stomach.....It is really too bad that some new lady from the UK has decided to take something so "sweet" and turn it into personal attacks and personalize things.....

Kim, please don't go :crying: Maybe we should start voting people off the island!!!!

I am gone for awhile to because of things

Maybe in the future I will return but AG girl you have no clue what u have interupted or runied with your judgments here.

I'm starting to see a common equation here and I don't like it at all. Jax, please don't go :crying:

This also brings up the fact that these Black men are coming from a country where their race is the majority. They never knew what it felt like to be the minority in their country, or hometown, or HOUSE for that matter. That can drive anyone crazy, trust me. Do some of your guys live in a neighborhood or city, where there are not many Black faces? Not much Black culture? That makes a HUGE difference.

Good point. Unfortunately my neighborhood is 95% white :o Tony was/is the ONLY black person on the block! I am so thankful that he adjusted well and everyone is really nice and friendly to him. I think it helped that he worked in the tourism industry in Jamaica so he was surrounded by (mostly) white people every day!! Whenever we go out, we try to go to places that are more mixed though.

ENOUGH.......What has this thread become????........ It sure was not created three years ago to have people be nasty and rude to each other for spreading "their" experiences!!! We all come to this thread in different stages, different experiences, different lifestyles and we SHARE!!!

We certainly do not pick over peoples posts and make them personal......IF you are here for that than GO AWAY!!! This site has been a wonderful thing for many people.....me included. I NEVER dreamed that I would be experiecing some of the things that I have gone through and the words of wisdom from others have helped emensely.

Alien.....you have a different experience than all of us because we are mostly dealing with JA men...like Kelly said...your experiences are helpful to anyone who has a similar situation......PLEASE Stop the the attacks....we have lost too many veterans who started this post because new people come on here and ruin it...I left for many months because I was sick of some of the same stuff......

ALSO......we have no right to judge anyone. Telling Nanny that YOU would toss him on the street if it was YOU...HELLO??? And telling Kelly that Craig is here for opportunities.....Is all this necessary??? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! Stop this NOW or LEAVE the yardies thread.....
Darlene......Stay around lady...we will clean up this thread and make it back to what it use dto be and what it was originally intende to be when Ms. Squito created it.....

Yes, yes, and yes   I agree with you Kim completely!!! This thread has been around for a long time now. Recently we've lost alot of our Veterans due to mean, rude, and un-called for comments. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!!!

Actually, I am English.
Suprisingly enough I am moving to the US for LOVE ;)

Come on.................lighten up !!!! This is exactly WHY we've lost ladies (and maybe some men) from this thread !!! That's awesome that you ARE coming here for love...............but................please remember we are **mostly** talking about the "JA" MEN !!!!!!!!!!!

$1800.00 a month isn't that great when u look at salaries in the USA. yes compared to JA it is very good but maybe the cost of living is lower where u live.

Good point. I do think a lot of it depends on the cost of living. That's what really shocked Tony when he came here. Everyone makes more money BUT everything costs more too  For instance Tony's rent for his 1 bedroom apt. in Jamaica was only $100 a month compared to our $1000 month mortgage here!!! The other thing that really gets to him is the high cost of all our insurances here - auto insurance, home-owners insurance, health insurance, etc.... He never had to worry about any of those things in JA.

Someone in a thread down below mentioned ESL classes and I thought it wasn't necessary because they are English speakers, but that might actually be good for them.

A lot of the Yardies men took ESL classes. Tony did  He speaks excellent English, BUT his reading and writing skills needed a lot of improvement

So...he said that he came to America with so many expectations of how "foreign" was.....primarily based on what he heard or saw through television....even though I had gone over things a million times with him before he arrived, he says that once he arrived, he finally realized that everything was so different.....poverty to some degree was actually worse in America....our econony requires them to work three times harder than they ever worked back in Jamaica, everything is "on-hold" waiting for our crazy government to push the approved button......as a man, he felt helpless and unable to provide, eveything in the house was "mine" and he did not feel anything was "his home", he was homesick, missed his kids, missed his family, he was starting his life all over in a place where he knows nobody but me and has very little to offer me. This can make any man feel worthless and depressed...they kill their free time by doing studid stuff on the internet, sleeping, eating and basically being depressed while we go on and live our life as usual.....

Yes  Very well stated Kim. I've said it over and over again - the FIRST year is the absolute worst. Once they can get a job and start driving and regain some of their independance, it does get better. You really do have to pick your battles.

Just last weekend I woke up and our entire front lawn was all tore up :o It looked like someone had chopped up the grass into small clumps and just left them lying there. It turns out, Tony took it upon himself to decide that we needed a new front lawn :o So he chopped up all the grass. Now, he never even bothered to ask me about any of this. I started to get mad and then he said, It's my house too right??? I shut right up. We've fought way too many times because I feel the need to make all the decisions around the house. He used to do landscaping so he can lay the new sod by himself. It will only cost us whatever the sod costs. No labor costs. So I just shook my head and left it alone

I have to apply to lift Tony's "conditions" pretty soon. Next week will be 90 days before GC expires - I can send the paperwork any time after that. I am so overwhelmed  I'm not in paperwork mode anymore!!! After all the stupid paperwork for the I-129f, then the interview, then AOS, I sorta pushed everything into a drawer and forgot about it! I think I'm gonna have to check out the forum regarding this specifically.

I think a large part of it was being able to file through VSC. I went from NOA1 to NOA2 in a month. And I guess not waiting to receive packet 3 in the mail helped speed things, too.

Yes, that's why. Vermont is and has been the quickest (by far) of any of the service centers. IMO, it is completely UNFAIR that how long it takes depends on where in the U.S. you live. The whole thing should be centralized.

I wanna know too. I stayed there before when it was Club Jamaica and had a great time. Now I usually stay at Columbus Heights/Skycastles which is up on the hill, but know that I'm 7 months pregnant. I will be staying in a 2bed at Sandcastles when I go in May. What's wrong with Rooms?

Welcome Jengles!! :jest:

Me and hubby stayed at Rooms for 4 nights in August. I posted a review on Tripadvisor.com if anyone wants to read it. (It should be listed as Aug. 2006 from Detroit, MI). We really liked it. It's right on the beach, the rooms are nice and clean - we had a balcony w/ ocean view, A/C, nice big king-sized bed, cable TV, theres even an ice machine down the hall  rare in other JA hotels we've stayed at!! There's a small pool w/ swim-up bar and nice showers to rinse off chlorine, sand, salt.... The property is guarded so there's no riff-raff running around the grounds. There's a guard at the beach entrance 24/7 to make sure the locals don't come onto the property via the beach.

Now, if I had to mention the negatives: there is no elevator so if you're on the 2nd or 3rd floor, you will have to go up and down the stairs a bit. The bathroom gets a bit warm since the A/C doesn't reach in there very well. The water in the shower is very low pressure - typical in JA. Also, the drinks and food and a little bit pricey but you can eat out since you are right in the middle of everything. We even brought food back a few times and ate by the pool - no problem. And the beach can get quite crowded (especially on weekends) because it is a public beach.

I'm anxious to see why jamaicagyaldat said NOT to stay there

I need to buy the plastic preggie one - getting a blue one and I hope that I can keep it in until I deliver. My piercing was a b**** to heal and I do not want it to close. Have had it over 7 years now.

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I bought a flexible one too - have it in right now! And then I bought 2 more on maternitypiercings.com - they come in longer lengths and you can cut them down to the size you want. I haven't tried those yet, but I have them. I've had my piercing for almost 9 years ;)
